I have an actual Uncle Pete on the East coast so I've been eyeing this place for years on my way to work but never had a chance to pop in until today and was not disappointed at all. Ordered the rib eye and eggs with a side of sausage links (which I always prefer over patties) and sour dough toast. Everything was perfect. Food was hot and delicious. Service was fast and friendly. I think this to be a hidden gem in Huntington Beach/Westminster for a cute breakfast place. There was not too much of a wait on a Saturday morning. I decided to get the combo omelet and I was not disappointed. Although it is a simple dish to make, it came out nicely and exceeded my expectations. I also had an opportunity to try my friend's order of the pork sausages. Again, above average. I think both the food here was excellent and the presentation of the food was above par. My co-workers and I were in Huntington Beach for a short business trip. We wanted to find a cafe with that down-home cooking feel. Boy, did we find it at Uncle Pete's, enough that we came back twice on our trip. Their outdoor patio was welcoming and cozy. It seemed the rest of the patio was occupied by regulars who had no need for menus; a good sign. The waitresses were kind and attentive. I had the corned beef hash both days, and very much enjoyed it. Their country potatoes paired well with it. I appreciated the endless coffee, as I desperately needed it due to poor sleep in my hotel room. We will be back in the area in two weeks, and will be dining here again. read more

What a cute little mom & pop dinner! I visited for the first time mid March and I have been back 3 times. The shrimp kabob Greek plate is tasty! The chicken flautas are bomb-diggity! I have yet to try the breakfast personally, but my boyfriend ordered the sausage and eggs it looked amazing! Always eat there for lunch. The beef eater sandwich is the best gourmet sandwich you can have. The staff is always friendly and always quick to assist you. I've been coming here for years now. My dad loves this place and insisted on coming for Father's Day breakfast. They always have breakfast specials that are always tasty. 4 stars. A solid breakfast/lunch spot. Big menu with a lot of variety. Knocked off one star because the service is spotty, gotta wave down to get our drinks refilled. Solid Breakfast spot in Westminster. Split the Ribeye breakfast and Combo Omelette. I was really impressed with the Ribeye cut, fatty, and nicely cooked. Meal comes with choice of egg hash browns or country potatoes. Omelette was good, I would suggesting adding Mushroom to the Omelette. It had sausage, bacon, onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. We for them the leave out the sour cream and cheese. There was avocado on top that was a nice touch. Both entrees were served with a wedge of cantaloupe. I looked around and saw that all the other guest had their food and were being waited on. You know what i noticed... they were ALL white. We were the only Hispanics. From the moment we walked in, the older waitress with gray hair to her shoulders had an attitude with us. She seemed bothered that we were there. Given we had 3 year old twins and a 5 year old who were a little loud. Now correct me if im wrong but is this not a family restaurant??? Now I read the other yelp reviews and it looks like this isn't the first complaint she's had in regards to "colored people and minorities ". When we finally got our food I asked her for ketchup. She had the AUDACITY to roll her eyes and say "oh god" and walk away. Im sorry but it is YOUR job to bring me what I ask for. You are a SERVER at a RESTAURANT!!! I am not one to stay quiet and I made it very clear that I was not happy with her service and I would be leaving a yelp review. There was another table who must have heard and told her because towards the end she decided to flip a switch and be very attentive. Her attitude changed completely. I visited a few weeks ago for weekend branch. It was not crowded and interior was present. I ordered the combo omelet with English muffin. The main plate came and taste was excellent and coffee was good too. Since English muffin was not there yet I asked waitress after about 5 min later. She said kitchen will bring brand new package and will come out soon. Even what she said was obvious excuse, I waited patiently. But even I finish eating whole plate, it didn't come out. Then waitress brought check without bringing English muffin. I said to her that my English muffin didn't come out and she brought right away. Because she was busy when I asked first time, she just lied without checking with kitchen. I ordered English muffin with plate so I can eat with it but she tried to force me to take just English muffin by itself. I am not unhappy because of English muffin but because the waitress behavior to client. Food was good but because of her, I left the restaurant with very unsatisfied feeling. I love Uncle Pete's Cafe! The owner, Tom, who runs this place, always thinks that I am younger than I really am and usually offers me hot chocolate with rainbow sprinkles! Rainbow sprinkles! I never had the heart to break my age to him but rather, I just enjoyed my hot chocolate with rainbow sprinkles. It's quite nice, even though I normally prefer it with marshmallows as well. mMmMm. I recommend their chicken croissant with avocados! It's huge and tastes great! Their roast beef dip sandwich is my second favorite. This place is usually hoppin' during lunchtime, so I normally would just call in and order take out. I want to say that this place serves diner style food, but is not a diner... more like a local mom & pop's place for breakfast and lunch. Don't come here if you are in a hurry. The demographic attendees of this place are often white and older seniors. However, every important person in Westminster City comes through here at one point or another. I had some biz to take care of at Wmin City Hall around the corner and remembered their review. I came after the lunch rush so missed out on the Greek chicken raved on in another yelp. Hmm, damn, what to get. Looked at the specials board and saw beef stroganoff. Don't know about you, but I have been nothing but disappointed when ordering this dish out, as my mother and I use to make a killer version. Well this was surprisingly good at a little divey place like UP's. Noodles were cooked perfectly, plenty of tender beef chunks, damn good. It was a little bland but after shaking the pepper around it opened up nicely. The waitress was very sweet, kept checking up on me and kept apologizing for running out of the Greek chicken. It was the most expensive thing on the menu, entre plus an ice tea was over $15 but was a ton of food, so much so that I skipped dinner. Oh, they have box wine! Now that's a diner kiddies! This is probably one my favorite go-to lunch places while in Westminster. The food is excellent and the staff is friendly. The portions are enough to share and prices are more than reasonable. When we got there, luckily we didn't have to wait, but it was still pretty packed and people continued to come in after we were sat. Always a good sign. The portions here are huge! I love my hash browns crispy, and that's how they serve them here. I got the Denver omelette and it was cooked perfectly. The staff is mainly comprised of sweet blue haired ladies who will always keep your coffee cup full. There was a bit of a lull waiting for our food, but totally understandable considering how busy it was. This is a place where everyone seems to know the name of everyone else. You can tell that they have their days where they all meet up and head to Tom's......I mean Pete's, confusing huh! When we were here on Friday, the woman kept playing the loto machine and won enough money to pay for the tables meals - can't beat that! If you're looking for a cozy diner with friendly waitresses and decent food, then you should like this place. So, I came here for lunch today. Make sure to grab a menu before sitting down. My friends and I didn't know so we grabbed a booth and sat there staring at each other for a good five minutes before we saw the menu bin by the door. Whoops. Once we got the menus, we saw that there were so many items to choose from. I decided to go with the mushroom burger. When I ordered this, I thought it was going to be a vegetarian burger, with the mushrooms replacing the meat. However, it was a regular burger with mushrooms added. I was a little disappointed, but I guess I should have asked first. Anyways, the burger was huge, but just decent. The meat wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked. It also came with a side, which I got a potato salad. The potato salad was also just okay. Service was good, really friendly. Food does take awhile to come out though so don't come here if you're in a hurry. So, this place is good for hanging out and catching up with friends, but if I want a good, quick burger, I'm heading down the street to Bob's Burgers or to In-N-Out. read more

I first went to Uncle Pete's Cafe because I'm the proud niece of my own Uncle Pete, and he is a man who loves BREAKFAST. I'm a huge fan of diner-style breakfasts myself, and my gauge of how good your breakfast is is if you can turn out some mean corned beef hash, biscuits and gravy or chicken fried steak. Is there anyone else out there who doesn't understand the purpose of "continental style" breakfast? Why the hell would you eat a muffin and fruit if you could have a dripping steak with gravy and eggs?! I'm a growing girl, and I like to start my day right. In all fairness, I haven't tried Uncle Pete's for anything besides breakfast, and I actually really want to come in for lunch or dinner. I'm impressed by the menu variety that other Yelpers are mentioning for these meals, so I need to make a pilgrimage soon. Unfortunately, for breakfast, I find Uncle Pete's to be just so-so. The service is usually very slow, even when there are multiple servers, and granted it is always busy, but it's the kind of slow service that can't really be excused for being busy. There are plenty of servers...they just move in their own time. Far be it from me to rate down a star for service, though, because food quality and quantity is usually what I'm after. And I've had better, but the food is decent enough. I guess I'm using the biscuits and gravy as a barometer. Though Pete's biscuits and gravy aren't bad, I've also had way better....to me the gravy is too watery and oniony. There is a pefect balance that should be reached between gravy creaminess and savoryness (secret being pepper and sausage grease!), and Pete's falls a bit short. However, the corned beef hash is from a can and fried to perfection (just as it should be...I'm weird, I don't like corned beef hash that's an original recipe, don't know why), and eggs are always runny and greasy. Yum. Prices can't be beat...usually breakfast plates range from $6-$9, which is as good a value as any. Therefore, though there are other diners that are more my "go to" for dishes that I find more solid and reliable, Uncle Pete's is a cute, fun place with average breakfast eats. At least everyone here is super friendly and it has a great local following. Plus, there are lotto tickets available for purchase at your table. Too cute. : ) read more

The other reviews are correct. The foods not stellar, but it's way more appetizing and they give more portions than other larger chained diners out there. The prices are amazing. Came there to eat with the boyfriend because we didn't want to go to a Denny's. Breakfast for two with orange juice, coffee, ham, eggs, fruits, gravy, country steak, biscuits, and hash all turned out to be around $20. Not bad at all since we woofed down the good food. It was simply cooked and well seasoned. Not overly so and not under either which I am always a fan of. The best points about Uncle Pete's is that the service is excellent.
