We came in on a Saturdays afternoon at 3pm so it was a pretty quiet time and fast service. We ordered the pastrami, double smash burger, grilled cheese and a basket of fries for around $40. We really enjoyed the outdoor seating, casual nature of the place and the parking in the back. Pastrami was well balanced between the pickles, coleslaw and meat. The bread had the right amount of crunch. Very well executed, would definitely order again. The double smash burger had sweet pickles and jalapeños and cut the fat of the meat nicely. Super tasty and easy to eat. The beef tallow fries were tasty, well fried and well seasoned. The basket was the perfect size to share (2 adults and a toddler). We stopped by for an early lunch. There's street parking in the front and parking in the back. We shared a tuna melt and chilli cheese fries with a lemonade. Everything was delicious. The chili was seasoned and hearty and the fries were cooked well. The tuna melt was grilled perfectly. I just added a little salt and pepper to the tuna. Service was pretty quick. The inside is very clean. We loved the option to sit outside and enjoy the weather while we watch the cars drive by. We'll be back. read more

The one annoying thing is that they've started charging $.50 or $75 for side of BBQ sauce. Took the family there. Interesting menu. They got smash burgers and tallow fries. I got the Vietnamese banh mi. I think the food is pretty good. Family seems to like it. Prices are fair for the area. Not a lot of service since you order from kiosk and they bring the food to you. There is indoor seating and a bigger outdoor seating where people bring their dogs. I think the ambience is fine... nothing special. Overall a very good place to have lunch, but I don't think it's all too special. Happy to add this to my rotation of local lunch places. read more

I work down the street. I come in to uncle Philz for lunch. Good service, food is really inconsistent though. Probably different kitchen staff. But some days the burgers hit harder than others. The ambiance is very clean and homey. Like I said the staff and service are great! Considering you'd pay $20 for a smash burger in LA without a fry/drink combo. Uncle Phil's is the best place in La Canada to get a burger--period. You can see your burger being cooked and their versions are unique. I've had their HB Classic, Smashburger, and the near 1/2 pound Respectable--all are over-the-top--truly special. Now, I know there's a Panda next door, but their Chicken Teriyaki Bowl with fresh Bok Choy (Bai Cai) vegetable is extremely delicious! We had a smash burger (really good, jalapeños add a pleasant spice), the classic cheeseburger (a great classic burger), and fries (not really our style of fries but also quite good). The patio is also a pleasant spot to eat with lots of families, and the prices are very fair! And everyone working there was very friendly and made it a pleasant experience. A big no for me. They are really trying to make this combination of both restaurants work, but they're better off keeping them separate in my opinion (Honeybird + Uncle Phil's). You can order from both restaurants if seated at Uncle Phil's. The number of times I walked over to Honeybird because they forget so many things, or the items were beyond late (and they were not even close to being apologetic). I just waited A FULL HOUR for a fish sandwich and finally decided to ask for a refund when they couldn't provide me an ETA... after one hour. Embarrassing. It is absolute chaos with staff running back and forth between Honeybird. They are clearly completely over-stretched and under-staffed and this resulted in probably the worst lunch service I have ever seen in LA. Someone next to me waited 45 minutes for two burgers, and they managed to get the order wrong somehow. I bet they are still waiting for the corrected order. Someone in Honeybird was also processing a refund. They must have been confused why their order was taking so long when Honeybird was itself empty. Josh, the manager for *both?!* Honeybird and Uncle Phil's made several excuses and offered no concessions beyond my refund. I had checked in with him personally at the 30 min mark, and he told me my order was "coming up next." He also WAS the person who took my order. And I even asked a server who was running back and forth between restaurants about my order at the 45 min mark, so I was confused by his excuses about the ticketing system and by his lack of contrition. Ironically, it also took him longer to find my ticket (an HOUR old) and refund me than I would imagine it would have taken to actually just fry me a f****ng fish sandwich. We got the cheese burger with raw onions with fries and onion rings. Incredible fries and loved the cheeseburger. The onion rings are not like the usual onion rings. They're more like onion strips that was great to include inside the burger for additional crunch. I made Moule Frites and got fries from them and they were a huge hit as well! The HB- their classic burger- is dense, flavorful, beefy. i ordered a double, and though it's a whole lot of yummy food, a single is the more pleasant option. smash burger rocks: thoughtfully constructed, the secret weapons are the chopped jalapeno & what tasted like sweet korean pickles. delicious delicious. can't say I'm writing home bout the beef tallow fries- serviceable, but I'd much rather put that $5 into ordering another burger. super agreeable pricing across the board, restaurant is bright and welcoming, to boot. it's a tough ask opening a restaurant in La Canada, where your main clientele is gonna consist of children and borderline senile senior citizens, and a lot of businesses in this area dumb down their menus to accommodate, but the kitchen staff is finding really creative ways to amplify core burger shack dishes. glad McDonald's finally has a viable local competitor. read more

We love Honeybird! We thought the prior restaurant in this location, Aloha Kids (same owners as Honeybird), was tasty but the price and service issues made it just okay. However, I would be amiss to not review the new Uncle Phil's (which replaced Aloha Kids, same owners) to help with improvements in case it goes the way like Aloha Kids. Service, consistency of food, and wait time issues remain. 1.) Some of the food items were tasty. I liked the flavors and ingredients of the Smash Burger. However, there could be a disclaimer that it has a lot of jalapeños since it was too spicy for our kids. It soaked into the potato buns, so we couldn't just taken them off. The fried fish burger was good. The chicken tenders were dry and it looked liked Honeybirds, but they were not cooked the same like Honeybirds. This was not just with our order of chicken tenders, but with all 3 orders that we had. It's the same owners, but I think the cooks and the kitchen are different. We saw Uncle Phil's bringing orders to Honeybirds so the consistency of great juicy chicken should be the same. We also saw the Teriyaki Chicken being sent back and half eaten Teriyaki Chicken plates on another table. People said it was way too salty. 2.) The BIGGEST issue that carried over from Aloha Kids to Uncle Phil's is the wait time and customer service. It took a long time for our order to come out since they have one grill, but I saw the cooks were trying different ways to speed things up, like oven warm/bake a platter of smash burgers. However, they were inconsistent and even rude on people inquiring about their unfinished orders. In the long wait for our food, we saw a take out order only half completed. The customers had to sit at a table waiting impatiently for missing items. We also had our friends waiting for fries, after getting their burgers, but when they inquired about the missing fries, the cashiers said it was being worked on even though there was a huge pan full of fries sitting there. They were working on another take out order that came AFTER our friends, but they could have quickly given some fries to complete the long waiting incomplete in-restaurant order. Some people left after being told it would take over 30 mins for their food. I really want Uncle Phil's to succeed since Honeybirds is so great. But these issues make us hesitant to come back and if these issues are not addressed then I am afraid others might not as well. Hopefully word will spread that Uncle Phil's has resolved some food, service, and consistency issues to be a longer lasting restaurant than Aloha Kids. read more

The have a new service where you order from a screen but they took our order on their own since I needed some changes. No Vegeterian options, I got a cheeseburger without the patty, it had zero taste... I asked for grilled onions but it was missing. We ordered a few things including a cheeseburger and added pickled there were no pickles. Another cheeseburger with raw and grilled onions but it was missing the raw onions. The fries are cooked in beef taro no regular oil options so I couldn't even eat the fries. The staff wasn't the friendliest and service sucked. Wow just wow! Think diner food but much more refined. You can tell that Chef carefully thought out his menu and man did he deliver! I had the banh mi sandwich and it sweet, salty and spicy with an incredible lemongrass aioli. They also had me try their smash burger which had that perfect lacey crust with grilled fresh jalapeno slices which took it over the top. I also had the pleasure of trying their club sandwich which was delicious as well. Don't forget about their fries with beef tallow!! Never been here just driving by and thought a hamburger sounded good. Food was great, but the person working the counter couldn't keep up with how busy they were. My food sat there while she was on the phone and another lady brought her food back because she was eating in and wanted her food on a tray not in a bag. I understand some people complain for unnecessary reasons. If my food was brought out in a bag I would have kept it because it would stay hot. So my food sat and so did the other persons. She needed help. No trash can inside, and when I asked her to through my cup away she said there's a trash can outside. read more
