Bo kho croissant
Katie L.

finally got my hands on the Bo kho croissant that's always sold out!! Last time I tried to get some at their popup I got there too late and they were alr sold out sadly! The Bo kho meat itself is very soft and tender surrounded by flaky layers of croissant! It's really good buttery and flaky! Love the pandan cake a lot as well, one of my favorite cakes that's not too sweet, airy and great cake to filling ratio! Pickup is usually at vans bakery near the tully lion plaza!

Kake Birthday Cake

Andrew was so easy to work with. We ordered a 2 tiered Kake cake for our wedding cake and it was amazing. We provided an AI rendering of what we wanted our cake to look like and it came out exactly how we wanted. Matcha cake, rasberries, yuzu...whats not to love. The cake was so moist and perfectly balanced, not too sweet. All our guests enjoyed the cake so much we had none left. We liked to cake so much we ordered one for my birthday. Can't recommend the Kake cake enough.

Matcha, pandan, Vietnamese coffee tiramisu

Gong Dessert Shop/Droo the Baker has some of the most innovative desserts and flavors I've seen in the Bay Area. As far as I know, they only do pop ups at some markets/fairs and sometimes in cafes. I think I've tried almost everything on their menu, but it's fun because of course items rotate in/out depending on availability and the event. Get ready for a thorough review! For me it all started with the hojicha black sesame mochi cookie, which was so fragrant with a delightful soft and chewy mochi in the middle. Then we had a matcha cake with a raspberry coulis (I think??), but the coulis came in a little pipette which was squeezed onto each bite! We had to ask how to eat this, but it was such an experience that added to how delicious this cake was. After this, I was hooked and started following to see when the next pop up would be. At another event, I was able to get the lava moon cakes that I've been dying to try, and they were delightfully melty in the center once heated up. The matcha one had the best flavor and surprisingly I also loved the Valrhona chocolate as well. Another surprise hit 1000/10 was the pandan mille pocket. I wasn't going to get it because he torches the creme brulee to order, and I didn't want to wait. But omg I'm so glad I did! What an experience!! Wonderfully flaky pastry with not too sweet strong pandan flavored custard in the middle, and the caramelized creme brulee on top?? What a lovely treat!! I see why everyone was ordering it now. I looooved the flavor of the Hong Kong milk tea tiramisu (tea-ramisu? hehe) but found the almond brittle topping hard to break through and made it difficult to eat. Droo responded on instagram that he would work on it, which was very nice of him! The other tiramisus were solid, but not as good as the milk tea one! I'm biased. The macarons were also delicious!! The yuzu one had such a strong flavor that it was immediately AH! YUZU! Rather than just a citrus flavor. The milk tea was a winner again, but the salted egg was a bit subtle for me. ANYWAY I am going to keep following them because they are doing amazing things and making my belly happy. Please support them!

Wowowow finally got to try Izumi's drinks. Not sure if they need another 5 star review lol, this…read moreplace is heavily known by matcha lovers and SJ locals. What I had: - Lychee Matcha (double matcha, regular sweet, regular ice) - Yuzu Matcha (double matcha, regular sweet, regular ice). Double matcha was not overly strong or caffeinating to me (love that they do not charge extra for this option btw)- my caff tolerance I'd say is relatively high or above average for sure. Surprisingly, at that matcha level the taste is not overly bitter at all. And the regular sweet is perfect (I normally get 50% sweet at boba shops). Same with the ice level, I think their regular ice level is fine (I normally get less ice at boba shops). The Lychee matcha has great lychee taste, not artificial tasting, it's a great blend of both lychee + matcha. The Yuzu is leaning towards the 'lemonade' profile without being overly citrusy. More refreshing than the lychee matcha, but both are refreshing anyways due to the nature of their flavors! I think I prefer the lychee matcha normally, honestly hard to say which flavor is better! I thoroughly enjoyed both these drinks! Their flavors are blended well with the matcha- not overly sweet in flavor, and matcha is great quality while not overly powerful or bitter. Drinks are of course mixed well and composed nearly perfectly. ---How I Rate on Yelp:--- (5 stars): Exceptional!! -- food, service, and atmosphere all outstanding. Worth going out of your way. (4 stars): Great! -- very good experience overall, minor flaws but nothing major. (3 stars): Good -- decent, acceptable, but there's room for clear improvement. (2 stars): Poor -- disappointing experience, multiple issues (food, service, or setting). (1 star): Terrible -- very bad experience, would not return or recommend.

Izumi Matcha has been a top option for matcha over the past year…read more While Izumi was popular over the summer of 2025, recently Izumi has been much emptier. The service is great, and they make your drinks very fast. The taste is very consistent, and they do have a large menu with lots of different items other than matcha. My only downside is the variety of matcha over the recent year. From last year and this year, the menu for matcha has not changed much, and it seems like I get the same taste every time I go. While the first time was enjoyable, after it just gets repetitive. I love Izumi, but I really wish there was a rotation between drinks.

The portion size was good to share between two people. The toast was yummy but does have a sweeter taste profile due to the honey drizzle on top. Overall a great experience! We got the red bean and the strawberry flavors - the portions were very large for a bay-area reasonable price of less than $15 item. It was my first visit and honestly, I was a bit disappointed; while there were lots of fresh fruits, I found the flavor bland and not sweet enough - which may be someone's jam? I wished it had more condensed milk to give it a more creamy flavor. The shaved ice was beautiful and fluffy - i'd say this is the main draw that may bring me back to try new flavors. There is plenty of seating inside for tables of two or even small groups. Parking can be difficult since many popular establishments are in the same strip mall so plan ahead for parking time.

The shop has a bright, clean interior with a casual atmosphere that makes it an easy place to stop for a refreshing dessert. Seeing stacks of fresh mangoes behind the counter immediately gave me confidence that the fruit would be one of the highlights of the experience. The mango desserts were easily the best part of my visit. I tried the Pomelo & Mango with Sago, which combined sweet mango, creamy coconut milk, chewy sago, and fresh pomelo for a refreshing balance of flavors and textures. I also enjoyed the Mango Chewy Ball, where the fresh mango and smooth mango juice paired perfectly with the soft, chewy rice balls. Both desserts felt light while still being satisfying, making them a great option on a warm day. I also had the chance to try a few of the other menu items. The mango mochi was fresh and soft, with ripe mango wrapped inside a delicate chewy layer. For something different, the spicy chili fish balls offered a savory contrast to the fruit desserts, adding a bit of heat and a springy texture that balanced out all of the sweetness. The ordering process was quick and straightforward, and my food arrived not long after I found a table. The dining area was clean and comfortable, and small touches like providing wet wipes made the experience feel a little more thoughtful. It is the kind of place where you can stop in for a quick dessert or stay a little longer while sharing a few different items with friends. Overall, Hui Lau Shan is a great spot for anyone looking for fresh, fruit-forward desserts with authentic Hong Kong flavors. The quality of the mangoes, the variety of textures, and the relaxed atmosphere made it a place I would happily return to whenever I was craving something refreshing.

The Black Sesame was inert but gave it texture. The banana latte was delicious! Creamy on top, mild coffee flavor, and the banana came through nicely. Big cup also! We'll definitely be back!
