Went prior to Cubbies game for lunch. Got seated fairly quickly. Then sat for a half an hour waiting for a server. After finally alerting the owner we got a server to show up 10 minutes later. We all put in our entire order drinks and food. After another half hour we finally got our drinks. We waited another 20 minutes then flagged down our server to inform him to either immediately serve our food or settle up for the drinks as the game was soon to start at this point. Mind you we have now been there an hour and a half. Our food was then immediately served but cold. Just a horrible experience. Don't bother with this place. read more

Wow, this is my new favorite brunch place! I've felt so lost since the beginning of 2020, where oh where do I go for an affordable delicious dependable brunch that will always delight me? My #1, 3 Squares Diner, closed. My other go-tos, Hutch in Andersonville and Zia's in Lakeview also closed. Where do I brunch? Where do French Toasts grow? Enter Uncommon Ground, close to me but not too deep into Wrigleyville. A nice sidewalk patio with heaters for nice days, rotating menu with seasonal ingredients, and a full on coffee bar make a pretty great brunch spot and the two times I've come (once to try of course, and again to make sure it wasn't some hunger dream or something and was actually good) have left me feeling full and happy. Both times we've been were for weekend brunch, but they also serve their lunch menu during that time. We've had apps from the lunch menu both times. The Artichoke, Goat Cheese, and Spinach dip is a MUST GET because it is amazing. Easily one of the best artichoke dips I've ever had, it is super creamy and the bread they serve with is is perfectly toasted and buttery. A+ appetizer. It is big, though, so share or be hungry! Yesterday, we had the cheese curds. While the cheese curds were good, these are pretty standard and don't really stand out from a typical pub...definitely go with the artichoke dip over these. They are served with a spicy marinara which just doesn't work with the curds for some reason. The curds really need a ranch dip or something, the tomato just overpowered these curds. Anyways. For entrees, we've had the Ham & Cheese french toast, which was incredible. Super unique, I don't think I've ever had a savory french toast and this just really surprised me. Definitely try this, you won't be disappointed! Last time, I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup, which is also a comforting winner. This time, we both had a Sunrise Sammy, and this was an EXCELLENT choice. The brioche bun is toasted with garlic butter, and the lemon pepper aoili is a perfect sauce for this cheesy bacon sandwich. Definitely get the crispy potatoes, they are substantial chunks that have an audible crunch but are puffy and soft inside! The only thing that would make these better is a flaky sea salt, but giving a generous shake from the table shaker does the trick too. Service was friendly and fun both times, and even though they were slammed they kept our drinks full and made sure we were happy, which we definitely were. Try this for brunch! Honestly I really wanted to like this place. The ambiance was super cool, loved the decor, our table was nice. But the service was... remarkably bad. I think he must've been sat outside his section or something, because we saw him maybe three times, and never when we needed him. Everyone has bad days, and we saw some really great servers at other tables, so I'd totally give it a pass if the food was good. Unfortunately it wasn't. However, the thing that really annoyed me and made me never want to come back was that some of the prices on the receipt did not match the prices on the menu, but were more expensive. I could forgive everything else, and was even considering giving this place another chance by coming to an event, but charging more for a drink than the advertised price without warning is underhanded and a pretty scummy thing to do to patrons. read more

I have been here twice now. Once for dinner in the summer and sat outside, and recently for brunch! It was a bit loud inside with the tables closer together in the back room we were in. I had the vegan hash, which said it came with sweet potatoes, but mine had carrots and potatoes. The food was very good, just not exactly what I was expecting. I had a pomegranate margarita to drink which was pretty good. Service was a little slow, but they were pretty busy. Everything was fine - service was good, food was tasty, drink was solid - but it didn't sit well with me. For that reason, I can't see myself coming back. The service was really solid. Our server was nice enough to point out upcharges to us, and also brought things out fairly fast. The ambiance was cool and welcoming, however the restaurant closes kind of early (9pm on weekdays). The menu was a little expensive for my taste. I saw beers/ciders priced at $12 when I expected them to be $8 or less. Food wasn't SO expensive, but it wasn't cheap. We ended up getting moscow mules. They came with chunks of candied ginger which was cool. They were sneakily strong, and ended up causing a bit of an upset stomach. For food I had the artichoke feta dip and the mac and cheese. Both were quite tasty and rich, but they didn't sit well with me so I unfortunately could not eat much of it. The portion was large so I had a healthy portion of leftovers, but those didn't sit well with me either so I ended up giving them away. As a nutritionist I know the cost of veggies and the tofu was SAD. Literally a "shaving" of tofu and about 1/3 cup of rice. I have walked past Uncommon Ground for the past few months and I am happy I finally got a chance to stop by. The inside is unbelievably spacious, it has a beautiful rustic feel to it. I love anyplace with exposed brick and the multiple fireplaces makes it even more cozy. More of the tables are setup in a way to easily accommodate parties of four but you would probably get away with a bigger party if you made a reservation. I stopped by for a cup of coffee to help warm me up. It was still pretty easily so the restaurant was practically empty so I was able to grab a sit at the bar counter. I sat there for a while waiting for the bartender but the person never showed up. Luckily the hostess was able to point me to the direction of the brew room In the back of the restaurant. I wasn't aware it existed but it was even more cozy and had two arm chairs by the fireplace. I could easily see myself coming back with a book and sitting by the fireplace. I was able to quickly place an order for coffee. The staff remember in the back room was very friendly and gave me a heads up on the most popular coffee item. The coffee was delicious and I am not a big coffee drinker. I cannot wait to come back to try the food or come back with my book. read more

Don't even bother with this place! I haven't been here in years and thought I'd try it for lunch but found it to be very mediocre even quite substandard. I was charged $6 for just a regular cup of black coffee and even though they say it's Metropolis brand it was quite bad and not nearly as good as the coffee you get at the metropolis Cafe. My friends and I stopped in here on a whim while on a walk from our Airbnb to get groceries because we were in need of some food and a cold beverage. I ordered a flight of beer so I could try several different options and I loved them all. For my meal, I went with the seasonal greens and grains with added chicken breast. This bowl was so fresh and delicious and had a ton of flavor from all of the different toppings and the lemon vinaigrette. Everyone else I was with enjoyed their meals as well. The service was fantastic and our server spent quite a while chatting with us about all of the fun things to do in Chicago. The server manipulated and lied to get a higher tip. First, she pushed a second cocktail even though my friend had pointed out that needed to drive her home. Second, the receipt she brought had a food item that I did not order on it. When I brought it to her attention she said "he had removed it" even though it was clearly still on the receipt. I had refuse payment before she would print a new receipt. Third, I asked for the bill to be divided by the amount of each of our meals. She said that she was only able to split bills in half. Was able to snag a reservation for a Friday night super easily despite there being a Bruce Springsteen concert the same night. Our waiter might've been the nicest man alive and even asked if we were going to the concert in case they had to hurry up with the service. We got a beer flight and then a full size of our favorite, the baked artichoke dip to start, and then the fish tacos, and the gnocchi. Everything was delicious and filling. There is ample seating space inside along with cozy outdoor sidewalk seating. There was not a single thing I didn't enjoy about the place, and I would recommend it to anyone in the area. On the Sunday afternoon I was there, there didn't appear to be a wait, which is nice and sometimes hard to find. The service was fast and friendly; we had our food within ten minutes of ordering. The not so good: I ordered a grilled cheese and tomato soup, which sounded great for a rainy afternoon. I can't say anything exceptional about the food. I was so excited to try the original location after having had incredible experiences at the Rogers park location. We were extremely disappointed. The food was average at best - artichoke dip, chicken sandwich, veggie chili and the vegan salad with tofu. First of all, I have braces and asked for them to chop my salad (they did not). Next, the dip came with 5 small pieces of bread - clearly not enough for all of the dip. We asked our waiter for more bread and he happily brought us more without mentioning there would be an additional charge. I ordered an iced tea and asked for more when I was getting low. The waiter brought me the same glass filled with mostly ice vs tea. I figured I'd get another one soon anyway so I didn't mention it. When the check came, we saw that we were charged for two glasses of tea @ $4 per glass plus an additional $3 for more bread. My friend's coffee was $5 - he didn't get refills. I had wanted to go to Summerhouse, but my friend preferred somewhere more cost effective. This was NOT. Our total was $94.15 before the tip. Last time, we were at Summerhouse, we each had a glass of wine, free refills on tea (customary) and our lunch was an equivalent price. Uncommon Ground has average food, nickel and dime you and their prices are inflated esp for lunch. We will not return! read more

My friend picked this place because it had so many different options for vegans, vegetarians, etc which was awesome. We started with some apps, an artichoke goat cheese dip and crustini. Really delicious. I had the shrimp Skewers with rice And veggies. Flavors were great but portion was small. Felt hungry after the meal. My husband had the burger which was just so so as he said. The sweet potato fries were yummy. We ended our meal with strawberry shortcake which was very dense.
