    Half dozen chef's oysters
    Caitlin N.

We popped in to Under Current after eating next door at Salt & Olive. We came convince my brother-in-law that oysters were in fact delicious and that he needed to try one before he left town. It was sound 9:30 when we walked in and we chose the closest table to the entrance to accommodate our party of four. The interior was dark and moody, and it did smell a little fishy inside, but what can you do about that? We ordered a half dozen of the chef's choice of oysters and then my husband ordered an English Rose cocktail. Both came out rather quickly. While the oysters were fresh and tasty, my husband said his drink was just okay. Although we didn't fully convince my brother-in-law that oysters were the best, he did try one and it wasn't as bad as he was expecting. I'd love to come back here or to Current to enjoy a full meal of oysters. Maybe with some other in-laws...until then!

I came here right when they opened at 5pm on a Friday as I was looking to start my weekend with some cocktails. There is the Current Fish & Oyster next door that is more food and wine focused, while Under Current is more cocktail focused. Speaking of cocktails, they have a very extensive menu with lots of options based on flavor profile like boozy, citrusy, and beachy/tiki. My first drink was the hanzo steel ($13) which was very boozy but still had lots of sweetness and some spice from the rye, swedish punsch, and velvet falernum. I remember taking a sniff of the coffee bean grated on top and then taking a sip and saying to myself, "F--kin fantastic". It's similar to an old fashioned but 100 times better. My second drink was the sex dreams ($13) which falls under the tiki/beachy category. It's sweet, tart, and has some nice body from the homemade orgeat. There's a half ounce of angostura bitters so it's slightly bitter but it's a drink that is easily downable. My last drink was the nature boy ($15) which is tequila and smoke-forward from the mezcal. The chili stands out even though there's only 0.25oz, but the kiwi sweetness and the lime tartness help with the spice. I want to give a shoutout to the bartender Dylan as we had some good conversations. He even gave me the recipe for the sweet dreams cocktail when I asked which was amazing. I didn't get any food but looking at their menu the food is pretty well priced too. This was a great craft cocktail bar and one of my favorites in SLC!

AHH, where is my picture of cocktails?!?!!! They make DELICIOUS cocktails. I went there for my birthday. Not only their cocktails but their sharable dishes were great as well. Who invented taro chips? The ceviche itself wasn't too great but I give a huge credit on taro chips haha. This is THE bar I would go to for a special occasion for having a great ambiance. The food menu is quite small but it is crafted carefully to go with their cocktails.

Great bar with a great ambience! I've been here several times and have never been disappointed with their service and standard of food. (Fries are to die for). Although I've been here more than a few times, I felt that Under Current deserves a shout out for excellent service and just great intuition. I ordered the chicken Sando and several appetizers and was extremely pleased to see that they halved the sandwich and served it on 2 plates (with a generous serving of fries) for me and my date. Small things do get noticed and these guys deserve big ups for doing so. Their food menu doesn't enthrall you, but goes perfectly well with their well crafted cocktail menu. Under Current will always stay a go-to for weekend drinks and might have to be on the checklist for a night out in SLC!

Always a favorite, this spot is cozy and warm and has amazing service (ask for Andrew). Tonight we had a small group, and our orders were handled with care. The staff checked up on us multiple times, the food was great and the pours just as good. Whether you're waiting on a table at Current or just searching for some good drinks, this is a solid spot. Cheers.

Sink or swim? Definitely going with the Under Current flow here! First stop of three for Friday night out reunion destinations with local friends in downtown SLC vibing and imbibing. Modern industrial ambiance. We came for the drinks but very tempted to stay for dinner as well. Got blessed with easy parking just around the block, service was attentive offering recommendations and checking back on us. Opted for the lovely To the Fairest martini with vodka, Tito's and soda plus vino blanco to kick off pre-dinner cocktails for our party of three. There was also outdoor patio available although we chose to be seated indoors. Table was slightly wobbly but we fixed it on our own. This could be a return spot for us next time visiting the area.

    Astropanther! My favorite.

A gem of a bar with a cool vibe, extremely talented staff, and an excellent food and drink menu. Every time I visit Under Current, I know I'm going to be well taken care of and will leave happier than when I came in. I highly recommend you try as many of their unique, tiki inspired cocktails as you can. My favorites recently have been the Astropanther, Suze Cruise, and Benzi Box. Along with these they also offer solid renditions of classics. Their take on a Zombie is particularly potent.

    Saturn - so pretty!

We had a nice late night experience here. Bartenders were really friendly and the atmosphere was enjoyable. Drinks were tasty, and you can tell the bartenders take pride in what they do and took the extra time to make the garnishes look really pretty. Which I love. The drink selection is pretty big too. It's been a strange experience at all the bars here in SLC as liquor is so strongly regulated. After 3 cocktails I didn't feel like I'd had much to drink, which is quite different than where I live! But not a huge complaint, since I felt better than usual the next morning haha. I think my favorites were the Saturn and the espresso martini. As far as the food goes, the oysters were our favorite thing. Tasted fresh and the sauces were good. Nothing else blew us away but certainly wasn't bad. Had the shrimp cocktail, the octopus, (both from the Current's menu next door) and the fries. Shrimp and octopus were good but didn't love the accompaniments. Fries weren't that good either in my opinion but I'm picky about fries! Overall would come back here if I was in town again for some late night drinks and chill.

Great atmosphere. This is an incredible place to chill, have drinks, ponderize and have some segmented time for meaningful conversations. It's in a great location and the inside setting was great. The music was nostalgic and we were able to watch the jazz game at the same time, while chatting. The waitress was friendly and awesome and took care of us nicely! The drinks were all great, as expected and the bowl of olives helped accompany the drinks nicely.

Oysters and a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet
    Michael S.

My friend and I went in to undercurrent on a Monday for their happy hour. Oysters were delicious, reasonably priced, and the man who was shucking delivered them to our table with tasting notes and everything. We also ordered a bottle of wine. Our server plopped it on our table without saying anything and left us. I don't think we actually ordered a single thing from him all night, we were constantly flagging down other people, I assume his support staff. We sat for awhile with finished plates and an empty bottle so I took it upon myself to find him to cash us out. He was sitting down with his friends as if he was eating there as well, weird. Obviously we were trying to leave as I asked for the check and it took another 15 minutes before we had to flag someone else down to cash us out. I hope they split the tips there as everyone else was awesome except for our server.

Definitely come here for the bar and cocktails. Bartenders are highly knowledgeable, make killer cocktails, and are very friendly. When getting quality, craft cocktails, service takes longer always, but it's worth it. So keep that in mind. Food is ok, the menu lacks diversity and could use some tweaking. It's worth ordering from if you're really hungry. Definitely a great spot to grab a drink in an intimate setting before or after with a date where you can get a solid meal elsewhere.

    Ceviche. Not a fan
    Jono M.

This place has a great vibe, a lot of fun to hang out at for drinks. Minus one star for ceviche that was super disappointing. Don't expect a classic ceviche.

The sea bass was flavorful and cooked well, and I really enjoyed it. The only downside was that it had quite a few bones. I'd recommend asking for it to be deboned beforehand. Despite the rough start, the food, drinks, and service once we got going made for a very enjoyable meal. I'd definitely come back .

Aside from one other guest who left early, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Instead of awkward, it made the night feel intimate and relaxed. We ended up chatting with both the bartender and the kitchen staff, who were warm, friendly, and great at what they do. The drinks were a standout. Creative, beautifully made, and delicious. The bartender even whipped up a few off‑menu cocktails for me, and the best of the night was their matcha martini, which he said he created himself. It was incredible. Even my partner, who normally avoids anything matcha, enjoyed it. We weren't planning to eat, but of course we "sport ate" anyway. The deviled eggs were great, and the small Pinsa was fantastic -- especially with the adorable little bowl of hot honey and its tiny honey dispenser (whatever that thing is called).
