If you google the "TOP 10 Car Dealer Scams", you will be experiencing almost every single one of those scamming techniques at Unicars Honda. I understand dealership is just like any other businesses which making profit should be one of their priorities. But I think there should be moral standards to follow and boundaries that shouldn't be crossed. On 17th of July 2017, me and my family walked in to Unicars Honda to check out the brand new 2018 Honda Odyssey. Initially, we were greeted with warm welcomes and smile. But things started to go downhill once we expressed our interest of buying the new Honda Odyssey. And here are some things that people should watch out for although there are many more: 1. They asked for my driver's license for basic information and credit check. It was definitely a mistake because it was one of their technique to keep you there. I was in the dealership for over 3 hours. I attempted to ask my DL back and every time they would ask me to wait and they would come back with more numbers but no DL. Needless to say, the technique worked on me because I bought the car from them. 2. Do not trust anything that they tell you unless they are willing to put things on a due note in writing. And it was the mistake that I made. Just a little background information, I am an active duty service member. I was on leave during this time and my leave was ending on the 25th of July. And if I did not make it back by the 25th of July, I would become an Absence Without Leave (AWOL) and I could be punished under military justice. Also, I'm stationed at Ft Hood, TX which was 21-hour drive from Cali to Texas. Therefore, it was vital for me to get the car immediately to make the commute. It was the main reason that I considered purchasing the Odyssey in the first place. On the 17th of July, I repeatedly emphasized to the dealership that I would accept the offer only if they could promise the immediate delivery of the car. Initially, they promised me the car would arrive in 24 hours and I would get the car in cars in three days under the worse scenarios. But none of those promises were true. The car didn't arrive the next day nor three days later During this time, I tried to contact the dealership but it would always go to voice mail and they would replied a day later by text. Therefore, I had to make the commute to the dealership (which was a four-hour drive for me) in order to get some update on the situations. On the 20th of July, It was my second time at the dealership. Since I was present, one of the managers had to help me to find out the status of my car. And apparently the car was just built and still in Alabama when they told me initially the car was in-transit and could arrive in 24 hours!? (lie) So, they promised me again it would 100% arrive between the 21st-23rd of July. Again, I felt for the lies again. The car didn't arrive in time as their promise. Also, they continued to ignore directly speaking to me and only replied by text. On the 23rd of July, I made my third trip to the dealership (another four-hour commute). This time I demanded a due note. Eventually, they promised the car would arrive the next day otherwise they would pay the shipping and my plane ticket for the total of $1300!? Do you think that was enough to ship a car and fly a family of 4? That was beside the point. But, again I had no choice to accept the due note. Finally, on the 24th of July, the car arrived at the dealership but with a different color!!!??? I accepted the delivery anyway because I just had to go. 3. The financial processing was another trap of its own. One main thing was the extended warranty. Initially, the dealership sold me an extended warranty for $3000 for 6yr/120mi coverage. In addition, they told me if I get the extended warranty through them I would qualify for $500 military discount (big lie). Later, I found out on Honda website that the military discount was given to all service member who purchased a 2017 or new Honda and use Honda financing. Also, they said the extended warranty would lower your APR which it was not true either. There were so much more I can say about my situation and I could probably write for days. The bottom line is I understand dealership needs to make money and I have no issue with giving people that profit. As a matter of fact, I accepted a price for the car which left the dealership with a great profit margin and accepted a much undervalued trade-in offer. But the way that they run their business is absolutely terrible. The dealership never put their customer first instead they put making money as their only priority. In my case, I could have been an AWOL Soldier and jeopardize my career. Overall, it was absolutely the worse car buying experience I ever had. I am starting to think I have a big S on my four head for sucker. I have two doctorate degrees and I'm pretty smart but I don't know everything and because I'm honest with people I expect that from others. I am sitting in the waiting room at Unicars because they convinced me that I needed $145 fuel injection clean out, even though I've had the car for only 13 months. I complained about it but they insisted that the "parts" were worth $145. I told him I was feeling ripped off but he said it was so important for my fuel mileage and of course who doesn't want better mileage? But now my research has shown me that this was an unnecessary procedure. I am one year into a three-year lease with them, but plan to do all my servicing elsewhere. Beware of their finance department especially if you finance your purchase with another bank. I purchased a car from this dealership and Carlos Junior from finance never sent the Funding form to my bank. All he had to do was fill out their dealership's bank account/routing number and fax the paperwork to my bank so that my bank could wire them the payment. Carlos dropped the ball on purpose so that I would be forced to finance with their bank. This was my second purchase from this dealership. Never again! read more

He goes above and beyond to make sure needs are met and checks on you periodically while you're waiting. Even with a lobby full of people he still makes a point to come by to update you. Aside from our Hondas being dependable and most feature rich vehicles, Nelson is the reason we return to Unicars. 2013 Accord Sport, 2014 CRV EXL, 2015 Accord, 2011 Honda Pilot. And now our new 2017 Honda Pilot. Suffice to say we love our Honda's, but if we didn't have the right sales person/dealership we wouldn't come back. Took my car for a routine A1 service. Everyone was very nice, answered my questions well, and finished in a shorter time than I expected. As a recommendation, I would say that they should always check for warranty before charging the customer. If I hadn't brought up my warranty and the guy didn't check it (took all of five seconds), I would've been charged ~$70. read more

The service receptionist was pleasant to speak with, the person who bought my car to me was friendly, and the car came back washed. Not a good experience. Cars are not clean on the inside (while dust outside is an acceptable side effect of their location). Staff appear to be pleasant but are trained to manipulate and game the customer. Bait and switch with "special pricing" that turns out not to be a discount when monthly payments are quoted. Suggested we make an appt. to get a new electronic key so that we wouldn't have to wait. We did so. Have been waiting 1.45 hours. Wow. This is extremely disappointing and why dealer service providers have a bad reputation. Why hasn't a manager come to explain the delay or apologize for the delay. ***Edited version*** Bottom line my husband and I came into Unicars on March 4th looking for options for current lease. We didn't have a great experience on March 4th with the Sales Manager. My husband and I made a fuss about the service we received because it was below what any standards should be. On March 5th someone reached out to us and apologized for the horrible service and asked if we would still be willing to work with Unicars. On March 6th we went back to Unicars and was able to make a deal with the conditions we had. I wish we would had have the service we received the second time around the first time and I would have given a 5 stars. The dealership did make it right. However, I hope that they strive to make each encounter with a potential customer the best that they can and not have to play "fix it" and make it right the first time around. read more

Jeremy in the service department has been very good to me. My car was jolting and at times would go into limp mode. The first time I brought it in they determined the issue was a valve adjustment and it ran me about $800. Well a couple months later the car was doing the same thing and I was concerned something had gone wrong with the valves again. I was able to bring it back to Jeremy who told me I would not be charged for the new diagnosis. It turned out adjusting the valves only partially solved the problem, i needed my transmission flushed and my TCM updated. Jeremy decided since this was not caught during my original visit, he would not charge me for these services either. Lastly he determined my turbo filter was so dirty that it wasn't breathing so he replaced the filter which would normally cost about $90. Jeremy kept his word and covered the charge. I have never felt so grateful. Jeremy cares about his customers and always looks at the whole picture. I feel he really understands how frustrating car maintenance can be for a customer and works hard to make it as convenient and affordable for us. You can always count on Jeremy to provide the best service for your situation. 10/10 read more

I will not be purchasing a vehicle from this dealership anymore or leasing. This was my second time getting a vehicle from them this time leasing one, I even referred my mother-in-law this year. I had to pay an extra $19 on top of my monthly payment for GAP insurance. The man doing the paperwork also lied to me and my wife saying GAP wasn't included in the leased car so I had to pay $19 more to get it applied. At the time of deal I wasn't aware that car leases come with GAP already included. It even states on Honda financial services website it is automatically included. I went back to dealership to clear things up but they kept saying it's in the acquisition fee. Even the salesman Carlos stated the GAP was included at no fee. I have called Cathedral City Honda and they even said also it's included in the car leases at no fee. After talking to a manger today over the phone asking if the GAP is included in their vehicles with no extra charge and he said "yes", then I said "Oh that's funny I leased a car 12/7/18 and I am being charged GAP", his response was classic " I wasn't in the deal so don't know what went on". So I said alright and hanged up. He called me back and started saying it really isn't free and it is in the acquisition fee, my paper work still doesn't show that I'm paying for GAP. I was lied to my face about a product that is already included in Honda's vehicle leases. I believe this is a tool they use to get you to pay more when I already agreed to a price. I know $19 is $19 but end of day it's my hard earned money. I know I have signed already and should of looked more into the deal but I feel I was backstabbed by the dealership I spoke so highly of. I'm writing this review to warn others to do their research before doing what I did. I will not be recommending this location anymore. After my lease is up I'm done with them. read more

This dealer will not honor their own online quote. I requested an eprice for a Honda model that according to their website and the internet manager, was in stock in four different colors. Upon arriving to our appointment, we were told not only that the internet manager I was dealing with was off for the day, but also that they only had more expensive models in stock. We verified the sticker price on some of the cars in their lot and they had at least one available. This is the worse auto buying experience I have ever had! I took my car in for an oil change, tire rotation and recall. When I dropped off my car, I asked how long it would take and they told me about 3 - 5 hours. They said they would call me when it was done. I waited about 5 hours and heard nothing. When I called them they told me the car was done. I got ready and left and was a block away when they called me again and said that my car wasn't ready and that they didn't even have the part for the recall yet and that they would need another day to get it finished. When they called me the next day and I went to go pick it up they were kind of rude. I asked about getting the visor fixed and the guy rudely said that's not my job you'll have to call parts. I got home I realized that the back tire which I just replaced was still in the back how could they do a tire rotation if the tire is still in the same spot. I think that over all this place needs a lot of work with communication, customer service and actually treating the customer with respect. This is not the first time I've had a bad experience with the service department. I bought the car but had some details that needed to get taken care of went taken back to the service department at Honda unicars, there was not communication, we have to keep on calling because they will never call us back, went ask to speak to a manager, they will be seating there and took their time to come and see us and address the situation, after the second week of taking the car back they actually did some details to the car, but they put a mismatch part to the one of the panels on the inside doors but they never call us to let us know Marcos the manager in charge of service and Jeremy the one in charge of ordering parts very unprofessional no communication from their part. Sales manager wash his hands and say there is nothing he can do for us that it was all repairs fault and to talk to them. Went to Unicars Honda for a headlight replacement. Requested just a headlight replacement was advised by Customer Service Rep they would need to run a diagnostic check for 160.00. I declined. Was told they could replace it for 35.00 agreed to replace headlight from the auto tech. I was immediately called back by the same customer service rep that the headlight repair would now cost over 1,000.00. I declined service. Can't trust this dealership by their word.
