They normally don't have that area open, but because of the games on the multiple tv's, they had a large crowd. Fortunately, our server/bartender was high energy and made sure he hustled to get our order in and our beverages (and tableware) brought out promptly. Excellent attention which I appreciate someone who realizes that taking care of the customers is important. Anyway, we ordered the full size fish and chips and asked them to split it which they did. We each got cole slaw (house made and quite tasty). He brought out the malt vinegar, but since the tartar sauce was so delicious, I never even tried the malt. The fish was delightfully breaded and seasoned. Little bits of crispness, but no oily taste to the breading. The fish was fork tender and fresh. Bright white in color so it looked just as appealing as it tasted. Note the waiter brought out steak knives, but we simply didn't need them. I looked through the lengthy list of beverages, but since I had tried most of the local options, I went with a Breckinridge NItro Raspberry Porter. Recently checked out the new Union Jack location! I love the patio/deck on the front for an outdoor experience that the previous location did not have. It is a bit on the smaller side but still a classic! Our family usually goes for the sole purpose of ordering the stuffed pizza. If you haven't ordered it before I HIGHLY recommend. But be sure to order sooner rather than later as it takes about 45 minutes to make. We usually start with an appetizer and put in our pizza order. The pizza is not lying when they say it is stuffed. This is probably the only pizza I can truly only manage one slice of. Be prepared for leftovers! But it does also heat up well in the oven or air fryer if you have it. read more

Nope. There's an episode from the British version of Kitchen Nightmares. The chef is making the most bizarre dishes, and Gordon Ramsey finally figures out that this chef smokes too much and can't taste anything correctly. I think whomever created the dishes at the Union Jack must have the same problem. At first I ordered the Cajun Turkey burger. The waiter asked what I wanted on the side and I said fries. He barked at me that fries are $2 extra. Outside of John Belushi sketches, who has no fry, just chips? The cost for the burger with bagged potato chips was $9, so going up to $11 for fries wasn't the end of the world. But it put me off that dish. So I went with the Seitan Flatbread. Man was that a ridiculously poor life choice on my part. But we'll get back to that. My friend ordered the chicken wrap, which came with potato salad. She also ordered a hard cider and I ordered the Rheingeist Coffee Ale listed as on draught on the beat to hell old beer menu. As we sat and waited for our drinks, I couldn't help but bask in how absolutely filthy the place was. If there had been any lighting, I think everyone would have fled in terror. If I don't get food poisoning, I'll be amazed. So the waiter brings the cider. Of course, they don't have the Rheingeist. I ask if he could recommend another beer they have on draught that's darker and not milk-based (as I did see they featured a "chocolate milkshake" stout). I can tolerate some milk stouts, but milkshake sounded a little much. So he says that of the dozen beers they have on tap, no other ones are "brown." They seriously only had varying versions of Coors apparently! I gave up and just had water. When he brought the water, he didn't bring my friend a water to go with her cider and meal. That's a small thing, but still a little annoying. Our food came out, and what a flippin' disaster that Seitan Flatbread was! Good gravy. So they took a prepackaged piece of flat bread and spread some canned mini-diced tomatoes and tabasco on top. Then they sprinkled hunks of Seitan and warmed it for a minute. Finally they squirted ranch dressing over the whole thing. The end result was like if you let a cat puke on frozen naan. My friend's chicken wrap was a little better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. But the flavors still didn't quite match up. And the tortilla was soggy. At a guess, I'd say they wrapped it quite some time ago and then reheated it in the microwave. The best dish was the potato salad. So if you want attentive service, this isn't the place. If you want a cleanly environment, this isn't the place. If you wan't a nice beer selection, this isn't the place. If you want fries with your burger, this isn't the place. If you want unique dishes that taste good, this isn't the place. Failed on every level I can really think of. Go to the Brew Pub or the Brugge or Hopcat instead. All three offer better food and much better beer selections and more importantly are clean and well staffed. read more

My old college roommate was in town for a few days over Christmas, and we desperately wanted to hang out if we could find a way to do it safely in the cold December weather. Luckily for us, Yelp Indy had just published a current list of businesses with igloos the very morning we were getting together. We tentatively chose a couple of places in Westfield, since she was on the west side and I am on the NE side, but both businesses were taking reservations and were fully booked for the day. With that news, we decided on Union Jack's Pub. Lucky for us, all their outdoor seating options were open for the taking! Now don't get too excited with the term "igloo", since what they are offering is not a plastic igloo. They're not giving you an Instagram igloo. What they have is more of a clear plastic covered dining situation that's comfortable enough for two people, even though some of them have four seats. Let me be clear, it's tight inside there. BUT, go on a nice sunny day like we had and let the sunshine give you the full greenhouse effect. It was actually pretty pleasant inside for the majority of the afternoon, so much so that we took off our coats. Later, as the sun dipped behind the taller buildings across the street, our server offered up a tiny propane space heater. It was perfect and free of charge! So we ordered another round of drinks and some snacks. Our personal dining space was already torn at the zippers on both sides and at a couple of the corners too. However, we were okay with the airflow it provided, because again, it's covidtimes. You can never be to safe, right? These contraptions aren't going to age well in the harsh indiana winter elements. But the flip side of that is that beggars can't be choosers either. Great English style pub in Indy! Staff & Service 5/5 - I have never had a bad experience in here with staff. They bust their butts and work super hard. Location 5/5 - Union Jack sits towards the end of the main strip in Broad Ripple. There is some street parking but I wouldn't count on it after 6pm. It's right off the monon so it's easiest to park where you can and walk over. Inside 5/5 - Some May disagree with me but I enjoy the style of this pub. It's outdated but it meant to feel old and untouched. My only complaint are the old TV's in odd places. But the locations are really the only places they could be at. It would be nice to see newer/brighter TV's. Food & Drink 5/5 - I have eaten most of the Vegan items on the menu and they are fantastic!! That is also one of the reasons I love it here, there are so many options for Vegan/Vegitarians. They have a large menu with tons of English classics and traditional pub food. Came here for the first time with a group of friends. It was really good! Right off the strip in Broad Ripple you can find street parking. We had about a 30-40 minute wait for a table of 9 but walked over to Brother's to kill some time. Once we were seated our server came to get drink orders. The waiter was very to the point and efficient. I ended up ordering the tenderloin but I hear the fish and chips are killer. I also ordered the side salad and I was surprisingly blown away by it. Even tho they moved locations recently, their great service and quality have remained. I do miss the old building across the street but I understand the move. With the new location directly across the street from the old, I was skeptical of what changed with the menu, ambiance, etc. Fortunately, nothing has changed! The food is still good and the ambiance is a cozier, brighter feel than the old location. One side is family friendly and a smaller bar set-up on the other. There are plenty of TVs for the sports lover - but not chaotic and distracting like at a regular sports bar. I'm looking forward to the summer months to enjoy the large patio. I selected the staple fish and chips. The fish filets are breaded with a tasty seasoning and still flakey in the middle. The fries have a crisp seasoning to them that make them disappear from your plate. We split the spinach and artichoke con queso as an appetizer.
