Being from Chicago I was not expecting much from this place but it turned out to be very good. We had a thin crust sausage, bacon and jalapeño and we were not at all disappointed. We also ordered chicken wings - they were average not super tasty but not bad either. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because of their organization. Our order was for take out and when I called to order they told me that they were really busy due to Valentine's Day and that it would be 40 minutes for our order to be ready. I didn't think that was a bad turnaround for pizza but when we arrived to pick up our food 45 minutes or so later our order wasn't ready. We weren't the only ones waiting for orders - there was a number of unhappy customers waiting as well. This is no Chicago style deep dish. The crust is not nearly as thick or tasty. We ordered a plain cheese and pepperoni deep dish pizza, just to try. It tasted very plain and there are definitely too many tomato chunks in the pizza sauce. I don't usually want crunchy sticks of bread when I think of ordering breadsticks either. Not what I was expecting. These reviews are all about preference and taste buds. But, this is absolutely nothing like a fresh Gino's deep dish I could have had shipped to me straight from Chicago. My roommate and I ordered a large pizza for delivery the other night and not only was it pretty expensive ($30 !!) but when it arrived it was the size of a small or medium pizza from other pizza stores. It was deep dish style and although the crust wasn't bad, the sauce was like someone dumped three cans of canned stewed tomato sauce on the pizza and I ordered mushrooms on half only to discover they were aweful tasting and "looked" like canned mushrooms . It was only luke warm as well. A $30 pizza this size "MAY" may be worth it if it's truly awesome but in all honestly we were not impressed. Maybe it's because we're not from Chicago? Anyway, To the owners credit, he DOES monitor his reviews and did contact us with an offer to refund our money. We agreed to a credit and will in give this place another try but we won't be ordering the deep dish pizza. read more

Update to my previous review- (sorry this took so long) they contacted me when I wrote the first review and because of the good customer service I decided to try it again. We have not had delivery since, but I've eaten there twice and it's VERY good. the Pene chicken dish is delicious and it's my go-to for a single slice now when ever I'm out running errands and starving. As a transplant from the Chicago area over 20 years ago I have missed Chicago-style pizza. Union Pizza is as close as it gets without trekking back to Chicago. The crust has the great crunchy texture I expected for a Chicago style pizza, the cheese is super tasty, as is the tomato topping. The first time in this place we had a great meal everything was good and on time everyone was friendly and helpful. We went there a second time waited over 30 mins for our food on a slow night and the guy who took my order asked if the food was to go and I said no and pointed at the patio where my dogs and boyfriend were sitting and he handed me a number. We were sitting outside for a long time and I finally go inside to ask what is taking so long and the "manager" looks at me like I'm dumb and says "it's only been 24 mins" he then goes to the back to see where our food is and it turns out it was a to go order and had been sitting there for a long time. Okay so i hate to admit that I've become a foodie. I like to try the same dishes from different places to see which one was better. Now the last time I had deep dish pizza was in Detroit from a place called PizzaPapalis. Back in LA and about three years later I begin to Crave East Coast style deep dish pizza. I visited Union Pizza because of its boastingly authentic deep dish pizza. I hate to be a hater but I have to confess that I wasn't in love with this pizza. It was very basic and had no umphh or kick to it. However I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that it's because I came on a late afternoon. perhaps the cooks were already tired or maybe I'm a tough critic because I've tasted the pizza from the East Coast. Meh. Drove in from the OC after reading the Yelp reviews. The Cesear salad was over ten bucks and was just lettuce and dressing. The thin crust pizza was pretty good but the thick crust was terrible. It was more like a vegetable stew inside a crust. It didn't taste anything like pizza. Two pizzas and a salad for $64 seems a little pricey to me. Sorry Union Pizza. I visited this place for lunch a few days ago and walked out with mixed feelings. The biggest gripe for me was the customer service; since I'd never been here before I needed a minute to check out the menu, however, as soon as we walked in towards the menu area there was a girl in a dominguez hills hoodie who indifferently asked "can I help you?" No hello, no hi how are you? Just "can I help you?" Once I finally chose something to order she attempted to rush me through my order so much that she didn't even ask the person I was with if he'd like to order anything. When we told her he still had to order she said "what? You want to order more?" Mind you I had just ordered wings and a slice of pizza. There was no thank you's on her end, just on ours. After being extremely annoyed with the level of rudeness, we sat down waiting for our food, when she brought it we thanked her and her response was "mhmmmm" & when we finished eating and she came to pick up our food we said thanks again to which she responded "mhmmm" the owner walked around and seemed very polite and engaged with the couple behind us; there was also another girl taking orders who was nice to customers, i suppose we got unlucky. The pizza was delicious, the thin crust was crunchy and tasty, the wings were great with the buffalo sauce, I'd definitely recommend the food here, hopefully, someone does something about that awful bitter girl who puts a huge damper on the place. read more

I had heard about this place some time ago, and worked in the neighborhood, but never had eaten there. We managed to eat there Friday night. I was told that their pan pizza was "close" to a real Chicago pie, and they were right. We started by getting individual slices. They were very close to NY style. My girlfried who is from NYC was impressed enough to fold her slice in half and start eating. Of course, a pan pizza takes awhile to bake, so about 20 min later, our pie was out. We got the 1 ingredient large special. Upon being served, I noted it had the right aroma for a real Chicago pizza. The crust was crispy, and it had the right consistency. I would give them a solid B+. This is about the closest I have seen to what I would call "good" pizza in the LA area, or anyplace here on the left coast. If you are in the neighborhood, or if you are a Chicago or New York expat going through pizza withdrawl, give this place a try. read more

Tried out Union Pizza Co. last night for the first time. We ordered the classic deep dish and it was delicious! Crust had great consistency and the sauce was very tasty. Great balance of toppings and cheese too. I liked that it wasn't a total cheese bomb like the one time had deep dish in Chicago (can't remember where but it was one of "the places to go"). I'm from NJ and rarely order NY-style pizza out of the "pizza belt" because I've been disappointed way too many times, but I just might give theirs a try next time. The deep dish was fantastic though. Definitely recommend eating it there for deep dish, you're going to want this right out of the oven. Thumbs up. read more

there are too many decent pizza joints around here to ever order from this place again. the bread sticks were so stale and hard you could play the drums with them.. i gave mine to the dogs. they seemed to like them. pizza arrived cold. the "baked goat cheese" was nothing more than a dollop of cheese in a bath of tomato sauce.. which helped wash down the stale crust from the pizza. GO TO VALENTINOS OR PAPA GUIDOS. this place even had the nerve to charge me a $3 "delivery charge" i tipped the driver although he seemed like he pulled over to smoke a big fatty before delivering my COLD PIZZA. This place is pricey but you really do get a great product. Most everything is made in house and you can really taste the difference. The union salad is amazing! I want to buy a bottle of their housemade dijon vinaigrette! I also love the fettuccini alfredo with the proccuitto, peas and mushrooms. My parents both loved the deep dish pizza. So I came to this place last Thursday a little past noon. My experience was not very welcoming like it usually is. I placed my order (chopped veggie salad, meatball sandwich with a side of caesar salad and a root beer) on the phone like I typically do. A women answered the phone and the whole time she gave me attitude (being highly rude)! When I got there to pick up my order I walked over to the cash register to pay and pick up my order but no one paid attention to me. Then a big gentleman whom seemed to be very busy taking out orders stopped what he was doing and walked over to me. After paying for my food I then asked the gentlemen who was the women who took my order through the phone and he said the only girl working at the time I had placed my order was an employee named Maria. I then walked over to sit down at one of the tables to wait for my food and I noticed the girl (Maria) behind the counter on her phone. There were many customers around which didn't seem to bother this women at all. She paid no attention to them and that bugged me because not only did she give attitude on the phone but she was so focused on her phone she paid no attention to the clientele. I mean do employees at this place come to work or be on their phone, giving attitude to people? My order took FOREVER to come out. She told me it would be a 10 minute wait which turned into a little over 30 minutes!!! I mean food was delicious but NEVER had I experienced such slow service till that day! read more

Ate here for the first time and thought the pizza was tremendous! I have not been a fan of deep dish in the past but the sauce, veggies, and crust totally had me hooked. So today I walk into union Pizza Company and let me tell you guys that it was a great experience so once I got there I was greeted with a smile and there was a very friendly staff member there started with telling that they had lunch special them told me what was the most popular items on the menu and let me tell you that guy was a really good sells men so enough about customer service let me tell you about the lunch special I got so it was slice of the Rush Street with a side house salad and a drink it was very delicious and not pricey at all the deep dish had chicken,salami,meatballs and cooked onion it was great and before I left I had remembered that he was talking to me about the pasta and I had to take one to go the chicken penne looked very good when I got it and the taste was even better I will be returning soon to try something new on the menu thanks again union Pizza Company for the great food read more

This place was great until a woman came into eat pizza,left her two small children (ages 5/7) to go get something to eat for herself at Bristol farms. These two came in yelling ( I want to sit here- across the small restaurant) and proceeded to yell, mom leaves and they continue to scream until we told them to "shhh", at which time the manager told us not to discipline the kids because they were not our children. These kids were out of control and for mom to leave them is inexcusable! Then he continued to tell us that we were out of line since mom wasn't there!! Really!! Couldn't he have asked them to use their inside voice since others are eating too! Really kinda sad that 1. Mom left kids - she could have gotten her food first but she obviously didn't want to deal with her own kids. 2. Manager isn't dialed in, and just lost two customers. read more

My daughter was craving a slice of pizza, and I walked into this place by accident. I was just going to get her a slice, but they had slices of deep dish pizza available (only available during lunch) so I decided to get one for myself. I lived in Chicago for some time and think Chicago deep dish pizza is the best in the world. I thought I'll check it out, not expecting too much. Wow!!! Their deep dish pizza is amazing! I still think Lou Malnati's is the best in the world, but Union Pizza Company is definitely in the same ballpark. All the ingredients are made there with the freshest ingredients. I won't go to any other pizza place, and the manager, Matt, makes the place that much better. He reminds me of the owner of the local pizzeria in your hometown who knows everybody. If you love deep dish pizza go to Union Pizza Company. You won't be disappointed. read more
