It's about time for an updated review...I've been here at least once a year, every year, and I always enjoy the food and the drinks. The addition of the music in the courtyard is such a bonus for me because I love the live music, the dancing, and the general laid back ambience. Sadly the service is just never up to par. It always seems like the servers are stretched thin and they are busy, busy, busy. The runners for the food and drinks are fabulous! Once you can actually order, it comes quickly. Perhaps they should just switch to the table top ordering that airport restaurants use so you don't have to try to find your server. Whiskey Wednesday is a great day to try a whiskey, bourbon, or scotch at half price. The fried chicken sandwich was delightful and I really enjoyed my Kentucky mule. read more

Amazing ambiance, but food was meh and expensive. Ambiance: Their outdoor area is beautiful! Located in a large plaza with plenty of seating. There's also a stage and apparently they have live music every Thursday! The vibe is awesome for a late night dinner with friends. Service: Efficient and friendly. Food: We went during happy hour and got the pretzel, pub chips, and union burger. Off the happy hour menu, we got the meatloaf and torta. Honestly, food-wise, everything was subpar and not very good. Everything was kind of flavorless and dry. Overall, would come back for the vibes (and maybe give their drinks a try?) but not for the food, esp for the prices they're currently at. read more

It's busy and loud but a lot of fun. We put our name on the waitlist in advance and when we arrived we were told it was another 20 minutes for a table, but we only ended up waiting 5 minutes which was awesome. They have a great selection of drinks with something for everyone. They also had the most amazing appetizer ever, which was a jar of pickles. The pickles had a perfect flavor and crunch and I am definitely going back for them again. We ordered the pot pie and a four cheese flatbread (pizza). The pot pie came with bread on the side which was great for dipping into the pot pie filling but even better was the whipped butter. INCREDIBLE. The flatbread could have easy fed two. They had live music outside but it's summer and way too hot for me even with misters to be willing to consider sitting out there. read more

What a great place. It's in St Phillip's Plaza in Tucson, AZ. It is part of a courtyard into which several restaurants face. They offer outdoor seating facing a stage for music and a monstrous screen for sporting events. Now onto the food. The green salad with the add on blackened salmon was delicious. Salmon cooked perfectly. ( I like it well done). Beautiful presentation with shaved parm and house made croutons, and house made vinaigrette. The Rueben was a perfect balance of meat, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island, and was served on hearty, grilled rye. Not greasy at all. Very nice that side salad is offered as one side choice. When it comes to dining at Union, I have yet to be impressed. I ordered a hummus platter and French fries. The hummus had an interesting after taste but after my second bite, I pulled something hard out of my mouth and there was a small piece of red plastic. At that point, my waiter offered to bring out a new order of hummus and I agreed, but by the time they brought it out again, I had lost my appetite. Would have been nice customer service if they had at least offered to remove that from the bill. The French fries with sriracha aioli was perfectly crisp and I would order that again. My friend ordered a cinnamon roll which tasted great - not excessively sweet as I've come to expect with most cinnamon rolls, an interesting hint of lemon! She enjoyed the bacon as well. Union has been a Tucson staple for as long as I can remember. From college nights out to more relaxed evenings and drinks with friends, it has been a go to. So will probably still return, but only for cocktails, not for food. read more

Pretty solid experience! We've been here several times and they're always accommodating of large groups (8+) fairly easily. The inside tends to be a bit too loud for us so we usually go outside which is very spacious. The drink menu is extensive and has something for everyone. As for food, the appetizers are solid and easy to share. I tried the yardbird chicken sandwich which was filling and flavorful! The reuben sandwich is also a great choice! read more

Lovely atmosphere. I had a Cuban mule which was delicious! We also had the poutine. Fries were perfect and the gravy and cheese! Just so good! For my enteee I ordered the La torta which waa filled with meat and had terrific blends of flavor! It was pretty loud and the waitress was training - but service wise it was a little off. My husband had the Mouth of the South dish - the biscuits and gravy and he thought it was good. The sausage was over cooked. I had the pastrami sandwich. It was good, the bread was good but I think the bread was cut too thick. The Poutine was ok. I liked the vibe of the place. They have a lot of TVs so you can watch a game if you wanted to. My friends and I went to this restaurant on a Friday night. The wait to be seated was about 35 minutes and we opted to sit at the first table that became available. We were seated outside right in front of the stage. We could hear the band when we pulled up in the parking lot so we knew we'd be hearing them. The Band was playing, mostly, hits by black artists such as Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson, Pharrell, Patti Labelle, etc. So naturally with the Band profiting off of the songs of black artists, one might think there are black people in the band...at least one. It appeared to be an all white band. Do you all remember back in the day when black artists would write songs and release them and then white artists would go into the studio and sing the exact same songs and pass it off as their own? No? Well you should look it up. Regarding the food, I ordered the Caesar salad and the Yardbird. The Caesar salad was excellent. The chicken breast needed a bit more seasoning but was pretty good. Well I wound up going once again to the Union with a group who paid for the VIP tables. They don't take reservations but you can pay for a table (VIP). We were there for a bite to eat and a drink and to listen to Sunset Red. Great band!!! When we were there for an hour and a half some of the people at our table were getting cold and asked for a heater. They would set up the heater if you paid $85.00 for it. They would set up for free I guess if the temperature got to 60 or below. Wow, you pay to reserve a table for a large group, you pay for food (which is really not that good), you pay for drinks and then having to pay for a heater at an exorbitant amount of money. There were lots of heaters corralled off to the side and normally they are put out around the tables to start. This is just sad that all three of the restaurants in St. Phillips plaza are owned by the same group and yet they cannot respect their customers better. This is just another reason I do not like the Union, Reforma or Proof. They restaurant owners come off as money grubbers and really do not care about good customer service. So first off, this isn't a food review. It's a service review. Specifically an issue with the hostess staff on 3/15/2024. We placed ourselves on the online waitlist and we're informed via text it would be 25-40 minutes. Upon arriving 35 minutes later we were informed very curtly by the two young hostesses that our wait would now be 40-45 minutes in addition as the waitlist didn't "count" until we checked in. They made no effort to be cordial. Obviously upset that we would have waited over 90 minutes we left. Only to receive texts within minutes that our table was ready. We won't be back just because of the ridiculous attitude of the hostesses and the poor management of the waitlist. read more

We came here on our last night in Tucson with a group of about 11 people. We had just dropped off our kids for UofA and we had a last dinner together. The staff and food were wonderful. We all seemed to like our dishes and I tried a few of my tablemate's dishes. All were tasty and done well. I had the chicken pot pie which came with some bread and honey butter. Lots o' starchiness but good comfort food. The staff were the highlight as they were patient, friendly and helpful while serving our large group. I especially liked the bouncer guy who checked id's of the kids at our table. He had a great sense of humor. This is a good place to try when in the area. Got immediate service and really good pork belly tacos. Union is noisy and service is non existent. We visited this restaurant because of its late hours. We both work nightshift so the hours were very convenient. We ordered the poutine fries, meatloaf, and pasta fresca. I really liked the fries, but the meatloaf wasn't good at all. I expected something that reminded me of home, but the meatloaf was very sour with no touch of sweetness at all. We also got the seasonal Irish cream crème brûlée which was delicious. In all, I probably would not come back to this restaurant, but if I did I'd definitely do it for the crème brûlée. read more

A lot of time we spent waiting, unfortunately! Manager came by and was very nice!! The food: honestly mediocre, I would not come back to eat here. I had come here for happy hour 1 year ago, and tried the salmon cakes and loved them. Tonight they were fishy, when previously there was no fishy taste. The Mac n cheese just a warning, if you get bacon, it is more like fatty pork belly cubes. We did not enjoy it mainly because of that, and the manager noticed and nicely comped us on that! The one good thing we had was the steak & mashed potatoes, that was good! Cooked well and had a great taste!! I also had the charcuterie board, parts of it were good, but I had more olives than anything else on the board, and also there was a piece of like saran wrap or wax paper mixed in the charcuterie board? I didn't notice it until I had already moved everything around. I didn't say anything because we already didn't like the Mac n cheese and we didn't wanna complain more, my fiancé told me not to. For a whiskey-lover like myself, they have a great selection (I would recommend trying the Union Old Fashioned as well; it was delightful!) If you appreciate live music, this is a fun place to go on the weekend, as they always have a group playing that you can sit back to enjoy or join in by dancing! This place also has a delicious brunch that I've tried before (as well as bottomless mimosas), so it's a great place to try out at any time of the day! I don't know why I haven't heard about this place before. I ask people I meet around Tucson & Oro Valley what their favorite restaurant is, & no one has ever mentioned Union Public House. Im pretty picky (having a 20 yr culinary background). We don't eat out often, as I'm usually disappointed. This now is my favorite. My husband & I met for a quick dinner last night; we were going in different directions after, & St. Philip's Plaza was a great location for us to meet. The service was very efficient & friendly. We shared the BLT wedge salad & it was superb. They split it for us & the portions were still very generous. We had the Chicken & Waffles. They were super yummy & again - very large portions. We tried the side of Broccolini which is sautéed with garlic - - excellent. The ambiance is great. We plan to sit outside & enjoy the music next time (when we aren't in a hurry). read more

You want straight up American cuisine? Union is the place. Lots to choose from, food, drinks, wine. We happened to come on Monday where all bottled wine is discounted heavily. The place is huge inside and out, and its usually busy and active all the time. I enjoyed the small jazz group playing live. Our four-top ordered chicken, pastrami, hamburger, and pasta. All was delivered tasty, hot, and fairly quickly by our smiling helpful server. We ate inside tonight but their patios are expansive and beautiful. On Saturday and Sunday there is a market during the day so parking is a real premium. read more

I came here with my friend and her mom last night and had a great time! Going in my expectations were low after hearing it was "just bar food". However, the menu has so much variety, I would consider it more than bar food. Walking in on a Friday evening, we had about a 10 min wait, but we did not mind, as we used the time to check out the live performance happening outside. Sitting outside would have been too loud for us, but we did enjoy getting to see some of the performance. Our server was very friendly and helpful throughout the night! We order the Pretzel, Mason Jar, and Salmon Cakes appetizers to start, which were all super tasty! Then for our entrees, I got the Goat flatbread without prosciutto, my friend got the Pasta Fresca, and her mom got the Pot Pie. The flatbread was a little too thin for me, but all the toppings on it were great!
