I had a car I'm working on that needed the headers coated and I reached out to Unit F14. They suggested Cerakote. We went ahead with gold Cerakote and they look great. It's been a while and I'm still working on the same vehicle and haven't yet fired it up. I will say that the coating will scratch easily and I had to be very careful installing them. I was told that it won't fully cure until the exhaust gets up to temperature. I assume it will be more robust afterwards, but I don't plan on removing and reinstalling them after that either. I recently moved from SoCal to TX and was nervous about trying a new shop chosen solely based on online reviews. I've always been able to take my car to shops owned by or recommended by friends in SoCal, so this was definitely out of my comfort zone. I spent 2 months researching before I finally decided to reach out to Unit F14; the stellar online reviews and images convinced me to give it a try. Spoiler Alert: I couldn't be happier with my decision! Before I go any further, understand that I am about as OCD as they come when it comes to my car. I keep the black paint on my RCF pristine, to the point that it looks like a black mirror at all times. I will notice any mark, scratch, ding, chip, etc. and believe me, I was very nervous (no joke, nightmares leading up to the day of drop-off) about leaving my car with strangers, even if it was just for one night. That being said, the wheels came out PERFECT and my car was not harmed in any way. Drew is very responsive and friendly, and the work Unit F14 does is AMAZING. My wheels are the exact color I wanted (Playboy Blue) and that clear powder coat on them brings out an incredible shine. Turn-around time was actually quicker than expected and all of my expectations were exceeded. Update on these guys...I got a new car and immediately reached out. Before I did, I did my research. I paid $440 last run with "White glove service." The car was left at my home and the turn around was 24 hours. The work and the way they ran their business was amazing. Today, not so much. My quote was $600 for a vehicle easier to do. $440 to $600 in two years. I reminded them that I paid $440 and went as far as to screen shot the IG picture and then quoting the price to another customer. Their response was "Well, we were just getting started then." They did come down $50 but added tax so we all know it's going to be their $600. I totally understand their need to charge more but that is an increase I know not many people would swallow ESPECIALLY repeater customers from the beginning. Horrible business ethics. Don't work with these guys. They are definitely not who they used to be. For $600 go to a legit fully insured shop where you don't have to do any of the work such as taking off the tires, disassembling the calipers. Sad to see businesses change like this. read more
