This was my first time flying United in 20 years. It will be my last. I even paid the extra $25 so I could carry on my bag, but they forced me to check it even though there was plenty of room in the overhead. Over the holiday weekend, I was informed that a wonderful woman who helped raise me passed the week before and her funeral was scheduled for the day after I was scheduled to return to home. United helped me reschedule with the most gracious and warm attitude. I greatly appreciated it and they have a lifetime fan. read more

If I could give less than 1 star to United Airlines, I would. The customer service isn't what it used to be, and when we flew from Barcelona to Washington DC, we were not informed that if we checked more than one bag, the charge would be $100 per bag. We arrived in DC (layover to Chicago) and one of our bags was completely damaged. A hard case suitcase that had one end completely smashed in. We were told to go to the Customer Service desk to fill out a form & the lady at the desk told us to "call the main office in Houston or fill out the report in Chicago". United is what it is. It's the airline i take for work. I've have had horrific tales of flights out to/thru Dulles. My original flight was detroit/dulles/boston for a race in boston. All went to hell! Needless to say i drove 9 hours to boston... But other than that, the terminal is ok, staff does what they can. Generally i carry my own water and snacks, and i have to fly them enough that i usually maintain status, so i get the "extra" leg room, which is actually just what normal leg room should be. If you don't have status, economy is terrible and squished, no free checked bag. Airline travel is just meh these days and united hasn't done anything to help the situation. read more

Compared to other airlines UA is great! Everyone has problems and makes mistakes, but we have had mostly GREAT service from them.

United does blow. TV's are sub par. They still have a single choice in movies for long flights. They charge extra for a check in bag. Unless you have a ton of miles with them and get some perks (aka Premier and all that crap), I'd fly JetBlue any day. JetBlue = free unlimited snacks and drinks. Cable TV for each person (ESPN, Food Network, Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, Discovery, ALL THE GOOD CHANNELS), plenty of legroom. No extra fees for (a single) checked bag. United is one of the better airlines to fly. We were flying from DC to SF which as you know is a longer flight. The flight attendants accommodated us with plenty of drinks, water, etc during the entire flight. We were also able to watch a movie and a few tv shows. Although the tv shows were not the best, it was still entertainment. They were on time traveling both ways. United is always our first choice if we can get the dates and times we prefer. read more

Never really had a bad experience with United. Flights are always on time (when I fly) and never had much problem checking in. Their checked-in baggage fees (like the other 85-90% of carriers) are pretty ridiculous though. Nothing real special about this airline that separated them from other airlines. read more

Overall the flight was nice. A cross country flight from LA to DC. I appreciated the smooth takeoffs and landings. Hats off to the pilots. My obeservation. This flight has one of the rudest flight attendants I have ever encountered. As we were preparing for takeoff one of the attendants notice that someone's luggage wasnt completely under the seat. She starts yelling about how that can't happen and if we had an emergency the isles need to be free. She starts huffing and puffing and rolling her eyes as she is trying to find another place to put the luggage. She goes from the isles to the mic. She is huffing and puffing on the mic and back to the Isles. Bottom line. If you don't like your job quit! On the flight up we were told if you were in a certain group there would be no room for your luggage so you had no choice but to check it. They should have done the same thing on this flight instead of embarrassing the customer. This flight attendants rant went on for over 5 minutes. Totally unnecessary. Extremely frustrating flight, enough so that I never want to fly United again. Attendants should be directing passengers which bags can go under their seats and which ones that can go in the overhead. The absolutely worst part about the process though was the fact that there were plenty of bin space left, but apparently any # past boarding group 3 automatically has to check their bags. This is the worst experience I have had. Got 3 first class tickets for the family . 2 of the four connecting flights delayed by multiple hours. All you get is a text message with the next time of the flight right when the actual time is due . Got stuck in IAD because first the plane wasn't there !!!! And now as I am sitting in a horrible small plane with my 20 month old daughter the explanation is that they don't have ground staff. I hate flying. Always have and always will. Mainly because I have ear issues. Due to the nature of my work, on occasion, I have to fly. I received a deal on Travelocity to fly from Jacksonville to Washington-Dulles on 4/16/19 the 7:40pm flight. I wanted to give United a good review, because of the flight attendants on this flight. They were both warm and engaging. It made the flight more comfortable. On decent, my ears were really bothering me and one of the flight attendants named Jessica engaged me with conversation and took my mind off my ears. I appreciated that. Well, we did not crash, and the stewardess was sympathetic. That is why there is a two-star rating. My plane was a CRJ-700 operated by Mesa Airlines DBA United Express. I was on a flight from Dulles (IAD) to Portland, Maine - seat assignment 7D. I was sitting behind the wings and the noise was horrendous. There were no other open seats, so I could not be moved. I am writing this to warn anyone who is noise-sensitive to sit in the front of the plane; the disparity is surprising. Flew into Dulles Airport on flight#859 from DFW on July 10, 2018. My flight was delayed over an hour coming out of Dallas. My connecting flight#1220 was scheduled to stop boarding at 10:17 pm and depart at 10:30pm. My flight lands at 10:12 and no effort was made by agent at the gate to have my connecting flight wait for me. Both flights were separated by approximately 7 gates. I arrive at gate for connecting flight at 10:20pm after running and door is locked and no one is around. They made no effort to get me on my flight. Instead I trudge back to original gate and agent tells me smugly "I'll just book you on the first flight in the morning. You can spend the night at the airport" WTF!!! Instead of helping me make my flight by waiting a couple of extra minutes ( plane was still sitting there) they get a kick out of making people spend all night waiting in an airport. I'm taking my business elsewhere. No wonder UNITED AIRLINES HAS A BAD REPUTATION. IT'S TRUE. THEY SUCK!!! read more

I used to fly on United when I did more travelling as a road warrior. My experience was the final leg of a flight from Austin to Dulles. It's tough to know where to start and while I typically like to give both positive and negative remarks, couldn't find anything positive. Rude, obnoxious and flippant stewards/esses who were obviously tired from a several legged trip earlier in the day. I saw one steward almost throw their 'snack' at a customer. The best part was when the first class stewardess decided to walk back but refused to help the coach stewards. Really laughable attitudes these people have. I will NEVER fly on this airline again and looking at the current figures, United isn't doing too well. Start with improving customer service and giving your employees mandatory training. so bought 2 roundtrip tickets for 365$ and then noticed it went down to 300$ in a 12 hour period.. Ever try to get through and talk to a LIVE person at United.... I have been on hold for 25 minutes x2 and finally reached someone.. Found out that only one ticket was available to refund the differnce. I was on line and saw that that the fare was still available cheaper than purchased.. I can not tell you the trouble I went through... we the customer should not have to endure the the pain of not being able to speak to a rep...I think the airlines do this on purpose so most people hang up... United is bad, they gave me the wrong gate number they wrote down the gate number incorrectly, it was supposed to be D6 but they put down A2G, so we went back to the D gates. On e again, United Airlines shows it lack of customer service. Arrived at airport and told to use the kiosk to tag my own checked luggage. Then they could find my wife's boarding pass even thought I had them on my phone. After asking for help, was told to go back to kiosk. Told them to call a supervisor who seemed upset that they had to ACTUALLY WORK. They tried, not once but twice to resolve the problem, before entering in a code to override the system. Then at the gate, failed to have a wheel chair to take to plane even though check-in counter requested one. Reason why, if possible, I fly non US flagged carriers. US carriers are more interested in screwing their customers instead of helping. Please place airlines back under government regulations. read more

On the outbound SFO -CRW I was charged $60 for 2 checked bags. Our lyrics 1 made it all the way. Gate agent told me it was in ORD and they would get it on the next plane arriving @ 11:30pm. Lost bag tracker didn't work at all, staying up half the night for no result. Bag finally showed up @ noon the next day. My return flight connected @ IAD. This time the plane was delayed for a small maintenance problem,, then cancelled for a new plane 5 hours later. Still sitting in the termonal. OMG...this was the worst first class flight from IAD to SFO on United...If I had known the planes were so old...and that first class is really business class...no foot rests...bad food...barely reclining seats...no at seat movies or entertainment....Only the one movie on the wall...no champagne...on the return I asked for a beer...and they said they had Heniken, Miller and Bud...I asked for the Heniken...the flight attendant came back and said they had none. Food horrible both directions! NEVER AGAIN!!!! If I could rate United (and partially Dulles) with zero stars I would. Had a flight from Dulles to Orlando scheduled to leave at 530p. We all got on the plane just fine and then it started to go downhill. It took unusually long to pull away from the jetway but when we finally did, we were told there were 20 planes in front of us for take off. TWENTY! Holy crap who scheduled the flight plans today?!? We sat on the tarmac (not that far from the jetway) for 1.5 hrs. Then it started to rain. I'm from FL, this was not concerning rain. We sat in the same spot for another 30 min. We were then told we were back in line to take off but now there were 30 planes ahead of us. THIRTY??? Where the hell did those 10 new planes come from??? We sat there for another 20 min before we were told we were headed back to the gate. Again, not that far from the gate. It took 40 min! The communication from the first crew was not good. Not good at all! We got off the plane and they called for a new crew. We boarded the plane again 2.5 hrs later. We got on and again, it was taking unusually long to get things underway. The stewardess then proceeded to tell us that we didn't have a pilot yet. WTF? Why are we here??? Our newly scheduled flight supposed to leave at 1015p looks to be leaving at 1130p. Let me be clear, they are getting one star because minus-10 stars is not an option. My disappointment in this airline is greater than the size of Texas. I travel a bit for work, and personally and from this point forward I vow to never book a flight on United, and tell everyone I know not to use United Airlines. My story began last year when I planned a vacation for three of us to Punta Cana, purchased three business class tickets, for a vacation that was to happen a week after the hurricane hit. I was able to cancel the hotel, no problem, but the airline tickets were another story! United refused to refund my $3000.00 dollars and issued each of us an individual credit even though I paid on my card! My daughter, me and her husband each have a credit so that when we go to book a flight they can charge each of us $200.00 booking fee which they ask you to pay for and refuse to deduct from the credit they issued. To use the credit which expires next week, we have to give them an additional $200.00 dollars each-$600.00 of penalty & fees. Why? because we dared to cancel due to Hurricane maria which they deemed insignificant, not enough of a reason to cancel vacations. So the flooding, trees down, and damage to DR wasn't enough for them to refund my tickets. Best yet, I call to book a trip to use my $980.16, credit in full and they refuse to confirm my bookings (i was using the credit to book two trips). They confirmed one & told me I have to wait 48 hours to book the second one so they can charge another $200.00. They are awfull!!! Never use them! read more

I will never fly united nor recommend united! My wife and I were both switched at the last minute to sit no where near each other. Only to be sent via phone to representatives that didn't care. This is for united airlines in general. Tried to use frequent flyer miles WHAT A HUGE JOKE. After jumping through ridiculous hoops for a week. We finally got our "secret" password and account. Then another day to get me on my husbands account. Can't understand a fourth of what the heavily accented operator was saying (really I'm going to book a flight when I can barely understand the person??). Then find out that the fees and mileage they charge are outrageous. 50k miles for a under 2k trip because it somehow is a "special" flight. Nothing different about it folks, regular flight economy seating. Had to beg and give a reason to speak to a manager. Her accent was almost just as bad. I'm reconsidering my loyalty to United. Their frequent flyer program was restructured so now, as a domestic business traveller, despite more trips than ever (Hilton Diamond 4 years in a row) I cannot reach Gold status in their program. Now I am feeling even more abused and taken for granted. More and more aircraft seem to maintenance problems and delays. Due to their poor operations, I am now getting to my home airport 6 SIX HOURS LATE! Did they offer anything as an apology? Nope...I had to ask myself for a meal voucher. How much does United value me and my 6 hours of time they stole???? A LOUSEY $10. What the hell do they expect me to do with ten dollars in an airport? Time to reconsider my relationships with SWA and Delta. I do have three more trips to book for the next 6 weeks. Very nice flight from Dulles to Las Vegas on time and smooth. Although the seats are small and close still ok for us. The return flight would have been the same except the person in window seat was so overweight that he was 1/3 into my center seat. Could not even see the arm rest under any way. As he went to sleep he was 1/2 in my seat. Luckily the flight was not sold out as was first flight. We were moved to other seats.
