This review is based purely on their mochis/daifukus. I ordered the matcha strawberry and the strawberry cream daifuku. Both of them were absolutely delicious. I could easily eat 10 of them. The matcha strawberry had a fresh strawberry inside of it, and the paste wasn't too sweet. The flavors blended well together and the mochi skin was soft but had a slight chewiness to it which was perfect! The strawberry cream was light and not too sweet either. I'm not really a matcha person, but I am a daifuku person so I was very interested in trying Matcha Ren's matcha mochi strawberry mochi, which is a whole strawberry, encased in white bean paste, and then a layer of matcha mochi. The matcha is more for color than taste but it was a lovely confection, the tartness and brightness of the strawberry, the sweetness of the bean paste, and the chewy mochi. While I was there, I also ordered a banana cream latte, which the cashier helpfully recommended. It is one of the Top 2 sellers for reason. The banana cream is homemade with fresh bananas, condensed milk, and cream. It is delicious and not artificial at all. The top of the drink is adorned with something crispy and sweet, maybe a crumbled honeycomb and it was a welcome textural surprise. read more

The matcha latte with oat milk made me visibly recoil. I can't even begin to describe the aftertaste and graininess. Don't know if it's the oat milk or that's just how they do their thing. The atmosphere behind the counter does seem a bit chaotic, and one of them looked stressed... since they didn't offer me a spoon with my dessert, so I wasn't sure if the ones on the side were clean spoons since it looked kinda empty lol. Luckily it was! But I grabbed my soft serve and left. First few bites, honestly the matcha strands are intriguing, but tbh my first impression was that it kind of reminds me of Plato lol. So I wasn't really enjoying the texture. Although, the matcha flavor is very pronounced with the soft serve overall. The soft serve was very milky and creamy, I thought it was pretty nice! Stopped by one weekend and was happily surprised to be there before they opened. definitely arrive early or you might be waiting for a while, I arrived 15 minutes early and there was already a line forming. We tried the mont blanc, strawberry matcha and the banana matcha. I'd never had anything like the mont black before so it was a pretty interesting experience, the matcha just melts in your mouth. The flavor was unexpected, a little cheesy? Reminded me of cheese foam that you get in boba drinks, which I'm not the hugest fan of, so I would not get it again, but I am glad I tried it. This spot definitely seems to have picked up on the weekends because it was quite crowded. It's located near the promenade (Santa Anita Mall) in an area that's usually pretty quiet. It took us about 15 minutes to get our order, which wasn't bad considering how busy it was. I actually really enjoyed everything I got. Strawberry Mochi - So bomb! They even include a string to cut it in half. Delicious. (5/5) Kuromitsu Kinako Ice Cream Mochi Crepe - The crepe was fire! It came with vanilla ice cream and was simple yet delicious. Not sure why the reviews are lower than expected. The price is fair and though there was a line we didn't wait too long. The Mont Blanc matcha strawberry parfait was delicious- with matcha and vanilla swirl. The Mont Blanc part is definitely the most impressive part and the strawberry, mochi, and soft serve part along with the Mont Blanc created an amazing textural combination. Decided to check this place out while in the mall. Heard about the viral "matcha spaghetti" so wanted to give it a try. Lines can get pretty long as it's still in their soft opening era but it goes by pretty fast. I decided to try their Mont Blanc and daifuku. 1. Mont Blanc- 7/10 I was expecting the spaghetti to also be matcha flavored but found out later that Mont Blanc is a chestnut, nutty cream which makes more sense. I did really like the subtle texture differences between the Mont Blanc and the soft serve itself. We got the matcha and Hokkaido milk swirl and that tasted really good. The matcha wasn't too bitter and it balanced out the sweetness of the Hokkaido milk. I wish the matcha was a bit more earthy but overall it was still good! I did enjoy the presentation of the staff pumping out the spaghetti; it was fun to watch! 2. Strawberry daifuku- 5/10 Mochi was not soft enough as parts of it were still hard. Strawberry was nice though and i liked the white bean mochi paste inside. Total came out to be almost $16 which is pretty expensive. I don't think it's worth it for that price, especially the strawberry daifuku. I'd rather get a similar mochi dessert at Tokyo Central again. read more

They are located on the second floor above Din Tai Fung, turn left into the food court section and walk all the way down. Shoutout to the staff for being patient and professional despite how busy it's been. After ordering, they give you a number and call it when your items are ready. I ordered the Strawberry Mont Blanc Parfait and the Strawberry Daifuku. For the parfait, you can choose your soft serve base to be either matcha or a matcha-and-milk swirl. Honestly, the matcha Mont Blanc itself wasn't what I expected. The texture and taste were more like white bean paste, and I couldn't really taste any matcha. However, the soft serve was delicious! I'd recommend just getting the matcha soft serve if you're looking for a strong matcha flavor (and you'll save a few dollars too). The parfait also had cereal, a couple pieces of dango, and jellies inside. I really enjoyed the daifuku. It tasted fresh, not overly sweet, and the tartness of the strawberry paired nicely with the mochi and white bean paste. There was even a subtle floral note to the flavor, which I liked. This is my second time at Matcha Ren. My first time I got a matcha soft serve. My friend thought it was too bitter but it was perfect for me! I like my matcha stronger and it was rich and creamy. This time I tried a hojicha soft serve with the matcha strawberry daifuku. The milk soft serve tastes like the white rabbit milk candy rather than a pure milk taste. The hojicha was not blended in but rather a drip on the top. The tea flavor was good! You can't go wrong with a daifuku, although the mochi was slightly on the thin side for me. There is much more bean paste and strawberry in terms of ratio. You order at a kiosk. Service was quick! I will be back to try the black sesame soft serve. I've been here a few times and the staff are always friendly. I've never tried their drinks and only come for the strawberry daifuku. Such a yummy treat! Fresh strawberry with sweetened bean paste and covered with chewy Mochi. We have tried the chocolate strawberry mochi and it is a bit too sweet for my preference so we always stick to the traditional daifuku. Today we tried the cream brulee crepe and it was ok. It had the crunchy sugar on top, but the edges of the crepe were burnt and left a weird after taste when we ate it. The drinks looked good and maybe next time, I will give it a try.Oddly, I am not a matcha latte drinker but do love other products made with matcha. No spoons for soft serve or multiple straws for one drink. When calling out numbers for pick up, you could not hear her unless you were standing in front of her so orders just sat with no pick up. I heard one man ask about his order since others after him got their orders. She told him the machine broke but never bothered to inform him and just let him wait for something that was not coming. This place took over the hainan chicken place next to din tai fung. I only got the mochi. They ran out of everything but the mochi with chocolate at 3 pm. They were making more but they said they are taking any out. I would not get the chocolate mochi with strawberry. The mochi was soft but it was mostly chocolate filling. The chocolate filling was tasteless and dry. It didn't taste like chocolate. The strawberry was disappointing beyond recognition. It was more white than red. Cool new little matcha spot at the mall. There was a huge line at 3 Cats so tried this spot out as their line was shorter. The line went through quickly and their service was great. The barrista was trying to encourage me to try their matcha bean paste on ice cream, what they specialize in but was craving a more fruity drink. The other is more dessert and sweet. I also tried their blueberry matcha but did not take pictures. Like the strawberry more, other blueberry matcha drinks have more natural blue berry instead of jam like syrup at this place. Saw this place on social media and was excited to try when it opened. I went after the craze died down to avoid a long wait. The presentation looked exactly as it did on photos and social media. Always looking for a new matcha spot nearby and this one just opened in the Santa Anita mall just passed Noodle Street as you walk out towards the outside of the Nordstrom exit. They had a short line but the drinks and desserts were being pumped out really quickly. You get to see them whisk the matcha, make the lattes, and swirl the matcha noodle looking desserts just behind a glass window. My family tried out a few items, the matcha soft serve with rice cakes, the blueberry matcha latte, and the strawberry matcha latte. All of the drinks were good, not overly sweet, although a little grainy with a clear umami grassy flavor but it was good. I also tried a daifuku for the first time and the fresh strawberry wrapped in mochi and bean paste was surprisingly good. The ripe strawberry was definitely the best part. I was hunting for matcha drinks/desserts while I was in town and happened across Matcha Ren so we made the drive to try it out. It's located near Din Tai Fung and has a small storefront. It took awhile for my order to be prepared. It seems pretty inefficient since the guy taking orders was also responsible for whisking the matcha. However, he was receiving a lot of questions and orders that he had to keep stopping. There were other workers in the back of Matcha Ren who were preparing the base of the drinks/desserts but they kept piling up one by one. We shared a matcha mont blanc since it seemed like an interesting choice and a matcha ice cream float. The "noodley" part of the matcha mont blanc was SO sweet I winced and I'm certain I made a weird face. I dug around it to eat the soft serve underneath afterwards. The matcha ice cream float was decent but there was so much ice. Overall, I came in with high expectations but it was a slight letdown. First time visiting this new place, a small stand on the 2nd floor between Nordstrom & the promenade. It reminded me of Japan, you can see them making everything by hand.
