I found this company online and decided to get a quote to replace the carpets in my bedrooms. John is the sales person who has helped me throughout the process. He was always courteous, very professional, respectful and kind. It took me a few months to move forward but he has always been patient with me. At the day of the installation, they sent me a team of 3 guys. I only know the names of 2 installers, Juan and Miguel. They did a terrific job. My kitchen was a "one thing leads to another" project that started out with it being quite old and my discovering that today's modern appliances just don't fit correctly into it as it was designed and built about 1966. I had several estimates from contractors who were very eager to help me out, but their prices were ridiculous. One wanted to pull my wall oven out, and put a laminate shelf there, and destroy the cabinets under my cooktop so I could buy a regular range and install it. All for a mere $15,000.00. My thought, "Heck, I have a sledge hammer and some nails, I can go to Home Depot, buy a piece of wood and have an a great time all by myself and save myself about $14950.00!" I was getting really tired of all those games because that's what I felt I was doing, engaging in dumb games. So, I saw an ad on Facebook for this company offering a special and figured, "Oh well, why not give them a call and see what they offer?" Pure professionalism is what they offered. Their representative, Sina called me, and listened to my concerns and was very warm and hospitable. We arranged an appointment time, and he showed up on time with many samples of floors, cabinet doors and photographs of the company's projects. I told him I wasn't looking to spend my daughter's inheritance on making my kitchen workable, but I definitely didn't want builder's grade, or the quality of one of those stores where you buy everything in flat boxes, bring it home, put it together yourself and hope you don't end up with extra pieces, or hope that all the pieces are there to put your cabinets together so they don't collapse on you within the first month. Everything I was shown was real wood, and it was solid, no pressboard, no engineered wood, no plastic laminate junk. All the doors are soft close, and the drawers are as well. The quality is top notch. I also advised Sina that my floors needed to be redone, and I wanted my estimate to include new floors as well. He began by asking me about WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR in my proposed flooring. I found that a pleasant surprise, because many of the companies I found started out with the highest priced floors, regardless if they met what I was looking for, or not. I told him my basic needs. It can't be ceramic - I'm clumsy and drop things all the time, and I don't want broken tiles the first time I drop a can of tomatoes. I live my life hard, use my kitchen a lot and volunteer with dog rescue, so my floor has to be able to survive muddy paws and crazy dogs running full speed through the house and kitchen without being destroyed. My house designer decided to put my washer and dryer in the kitchen, so my floor has to be able to withstand the occasional washing machine flood, and withstand the weight and heat of my dryer. Lastly, having suffered a disabling accident, I need some reasonable assurance that I won't slip and fall on it, if it gets a little wet. Nothing is guaranteed, but I need to be reasonably assured the kitchen and dining room won't turn into a big ice skating rink. And I was hoping for a hardwood type of floor. Sina suggested I look at Mohawk flooring, as they have a simulated hardwood floor, it's made of vinyl, and is 100% waterproof. I ran my hand over the surface and it felt like real wood so went with that. If you saw it, you'd think it was actually wood. Sina added up what we sampled together, and computed the promotional pricing, and the total for everything was much less expensive, and much higher quality than the previous 4-5 estimates I had previously received. Sina found me financing for the project which had a lower interest rate than my credit union offered, so all things were a go. I went to their showroom to finalize my choices one Sunday and of course, while Sina completed a call with a customer, I browsed around, and saw items I liked better and asked Sina about what the price if I chose this over that, etc. I kept the original floor that I chose. The work was done quickly and cleanly. The demolition team showed up on time, and we had the surprise of finding black mold on the wall behind the dishwasher. A special team came and took care of the mold, removed the drywall, ensured there was no further damage or mold, treated the walls, and installed the proper drywall, all without throwing off the work schedule. Throughout this all, Sina kept in contact with me, ensuring that each step was completed to my satisfaction, and troubleshooting the very few snags we had along the way. I am so pleased with the results of this project. I customized my backsplash a bit, as I'm Native American and wanted to include some arrowheads and fetish animals in there and I couldn't be happier. I've had several guests come into the kitchen, and they all marvel at how beautiful it came out. I have a friend who wants to redo his kitchen and he'll be using Sina and his team. We recently finished working with Universal for a moderate renovation in our house including full floor change and 3 bathroom renovations. Mr. John was our sales specialist, he's extremely kind and cares about his client and hence his super busy schedule. Let's get down to details: The quality of their Floor expert (Mr. Farhad) is next to none, his attention to detail is magnificent and he's extremely responsive when it comes down to his quality of work. Highly recommend working with Farhad! The thing that made us love Farhad was his work ethic and lvl of professionally Half way through our work he noticed all of our 2nd floor subfloors were warped and unbalanced so he immediately informed us and with a decent extra charge he managed to fix the issue with high lvl of accuracy and he went above and beyond to apply concrete at top of the ply woods to make sure this issue will never impact our new Vinyl Panels. In every project things will fail and you'll have issues but the lvl of care Farhad has for his customer is splendid. Our Tile specialist was Adrian and he couldn't be any nicer, fair and cleaner in work. When he left our house retiling 3 showers you could barely guess that there was construction in the house. His quality of work also speak for itself, highly recommend him as well! He also helped us fixing the back-splashes in the kitchen since they dont make them anymore Adrian came up with a solution to remove them and use quarter round molding to create a beautiful accent of the wall The Shower doors and vanities was done by two other contractors and both were decent and nice looking after installation. The matt shower doors had some minor issues with the black paint but that was the only thing. The vanity qualities are great but their selection pool is a bit limited. Carlos was our painter and you cannot find a better, cleaner painter than Carlos. He truly cares about his work and stayed many late night to finish our job within the deadline without compromising the quality. If you do any painting with Universal make sure to ask for Carlos but he's extremely busy to keep that in mind. All and all this is a family oriented company which their top contractors like Farhad truly cares about the customer and their satisfaction, cannot say anymore nice things about Farhad. This place is a fraud. Went Saturday afternoon to look at LVP. We met with Fred. They didn't carry the model we wanted, but he said they could phone their rep on Monday to ask about availability and pricing. He shared that their vinyl (materials and installation) ranges between $10.99 and $11.99. We told Fred if that's the pricing then it's too expensive, and his pricing has been the most expensive by a considerable amount. I shared that we received bids in the $7s for materials and labor. He then went to the back to speak with the manager who said he could do $7 for materials and installation but no financing or baseboards. (Even though he said the rep wasn't available until Monday, he magically became available while he was in the back.) They could come out that evening to measure. We said Monday morning would be preferable and agreed to a time. Fred didn't show. We called him on the number he said was his cell, and he pretended to be someone else and said he has no record of this conversation or appointment. During our concession Saturday, we raised concerns re the Yelp reviews, particularly about the buckling floor review. His reply was that Home Depot has worse reviews, and they've been in business for 38 years. read more

I was looking to replace the carpeting at my residence and was looking to score a really good deal as I saw some advertised specials from Universal Carpet. I came into their show room and spoke to John who explained to me the different types of grades of carpet. He quoted me a price per square foot that included tax, installation, 7lb padding, furniture moving, and haul away of the older carpet. I finally decided on a carpet that fit my budget and he came over to my place to measure. After measuring he arrived at a final price based on the agreed upon price per square food that we decided in the showroom. A week later his crew came out and installed the carpet and did an excellent job. I'm pleased with the workmanship, great pricing, and service. read more

I see the numerous low rating reviews, and it isn't up to me to question other people's opinions; I can only offer my own assessment.. Our experience with Universal Carpet in Lake Forest was nothing but stellar. The salesperson, Shirazeh, who came to our home was very helpful. Yes, she wanted to know the amount of other bids we had gotten for our 800-square foot laminate flooring job, but when we declined, saying we simply wanted her bid, she was gracious about it. The first number was too high for our budget, and we chose an 8mm laminate that, with installation, and a little bargaining, was within our budget, and significantly less than three other estimates we obtained. The final price quoted is exactly what we paid. She was anxious for us to make a decision (what salesperson isn't?), but again was polite when we said we wanted to think about it for a day. We did indeed call this company because of an ad, and yes, you CAN get the advertised product, however it will be the cheapest available, and will NOT include molding or underlayment. So this was not the classic "bait and switch" strategy. We've both been around in the world for a long time and are pretty good at recognizing bad faith dealing. We maintain a healthy level of caution in such transactions. Our final price included both of those items and came in around $4/sq.ft. installed. The installation was a dream come true. Nick and his assistant, Rodrigo, could not have been more professional, polite, and businesslike. They worked fast and accurately. The amount of work to tear up the old carpet (we had just purchased the house) was somewhat more than the salesperson anticipated. It took an entire day of scraping, cleaning and leveling to prepare the surface. They did NOT try to add any labor charges. The salesperson called us to say that they would absorb the extra labor costs. The materials and molding (quarter round only as baseboard was too costly for us) were exactly as promised and laid with immense care and precision. The finished floor is beautiful and we thanked Nick profusely for his care and courtesy. He asked questions as often as needed, asked what we preferred when it came to various issues, and consulted us about anything doubtful. He has worked for Universal for 25 years and knows what he is doing. At the conclusion of the job which took three days, they cleaned the floor completely; they also cleaned as they went along so we weren't left in a mess each day. Seriously, I wanted to hug these guys, especially Nick (who is quite the philosopher, by the way) when they left leaving us an open box of extra laminate and some extra quarter-round molding just in case we needed it during the kitchen remodel. We are planning to buy two area rugs and a piece of fitted carpet from this company and my sister, who lives in Irvine, will be making an appointment with Shirazeh to come and measure for her new floors. So, I don't know why some people seem to have had significantly different experiences than we had. But we definitely 'bonded' with our salesperson and our installers and we all treated each other with mutual trust and respect. We expected great service and that is what we got. read more

My folks asked me to write a review for Universal Carpet since they are not on Yelp but they were very happy with their new carpet. Tony was very professional and offered great advice but the best part were the installers. The 3 installation guys did a fantastic job. I didn't know how "fantastic" carpet installation could be until I felt and saw their new carpet. The difference was night and day between their old 18 year old carpet. My folks are very cost conscious and they were extremely pleased with the price. The only reason why this is a four star vs five star was the miscommunication of when the carpet was scheduled to be installed versus the week and a half before it was finally installed. My folks had moved everything the day before the initial installation date so all their things were in boxes for 9 days. read more

This company was hired by my landlord to replace my carpet with laminate. The job was completed quickly (which was a big plus), but they made a huge mess, and did not communicate properly with me (the tenant) ... perhaps because I was not the one paying them ... I don't know, but I felt as if I was ignored in the whole process. I contacted the salesman 3 times prior to the scheduled installation date to get details about how the job would be done so I could prepare my home, and he did not return my phone calls (his name was Tony). I was told that all I needed to do was remove the smaller items out of the way... that they would take care of the rest. NO one told me that they would not be covering my furniture (which is white) with a tarp or plastic! The construction dust was everywhere, and I was angry that no one seemed to care that that dust was all over my brand new furniture! How difficult is it to throw a tarp over things!? And, for Gods sake, if you don't want to do it, at least let the client know that there will be a lot of dust so that they can do it themselves! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! The flooring looks good, and I have no idea how much my landlord paid, BUT ... I would recommend that you take the necessary precautions to protect your belongings before letting them install, because they obviously could care less about your things. OH, and they also spilled paint on my balcony. read more

First the good: John was very polite and responsive to all of our inquiries, and the 'quoted' price was competitive. The contractors were very good people and very polite to me and my wife. All did an acceptable job in the end. But with that said, we have decided to unequivocally recommend to NEVER use Universal Carpet for anything ever again. We have about $100,000 in remodels left on my parents house and another house in the family. We have a close family member who is an architect and remodels homes and commercial properties routinely. But Universal was so focused on charging for every possible scrap of copper from every penny possible that we will ensure not a single dime from this potential source of hundreds of thousands of dollars in business goes to Universal Carpet. First, the demo of the kitchen left minor damage on our walls - which is to be expected. But Universal asked us to pay for the damage their team created because they did not anticipate damage. Who thinks they can come in your home, cause damage and then expect you to pay for the damage they create because they didn't anticipate they would cause damage? We were quoted $800 to fix it when it was literally $40 in materials and 1 hour of work. My wife wanted the job completed quickly, so I did it myself. Universal never offered to reimburse me for any of the materials, or any of my labor even though they expected that I pay them $800 for the same work. Second, the demo caused our garbage disposal to be cracked and unusable. Universal wanted me to pay for a replacement because "the garbage disposal could not have been damaged during their careful demolition". Who in their right mind would think that any demolition is a "careful" process???!!!!! And who would say that the garbage disposal must have been cracked wide open and leaking with zero retention of water prior to the demo? There would have been tons of water damage from every time the sink was used. But Universal offered the most asinine - utterly absurd arguments. Logic and reason have no place in dealing with these folks. Third, my pony wall needed to be cut down 2 inches because of a mis-measurement. Did Universal offer to pay for the additional 20 minutes of labor due to the miscalculation? Of course not. He wanted me to pay several hundreds of dollars for 20 minutes of work. Fourth, the cutting of the pony wall resulted in a tiny bit more damage to the drywall that simply needed trim to cover. No big deal, but expecting Universal to pay $20 in trim to make the job right was definitely not going to happen without charging me hundreds of dollars more. Fifth, the trim on the walls needed to be removed. Universal wanted me to pay $200 more for that because his contract did not include removal of the trim that was necessary to install the cabinets and counters. I paid for the materials directly so that they wouldn't charge me hundreds of dollars for $24 of trim. Sixth, the tile backsplash required a "schluter" trim (it's a metal edging that goes along the edges of the tile). But Universal said that wasn't part of the original quote. Surprise! Another absurd charge to be added despite the materials costing under $10 and about 30 minutes of additional labor. The installation was actually very good (better than other reviews here) and all of the folks working were gracious and nice, and John is a very nice guy. But on the business aspect.... well, when Universal receives a $20,000 job but expects their customer to pay thousands of dollars to fix the errors and oversights caused by their crews that would have cost about $300 to fix, it's time to post this experience so you are warned about this company. read more

I have used universal carpet a couple of times and have been super happy both times. Irena helped me in selecting laminate for my Condo and Granite counter top for my kitchen. She was very informative and was with me every step of the way. Anytime I had a question she would be available. Moe who is the GM was very helpful when Irena was on vacarion Camacho installed the laminate for me and he and his crew did an amazing job. I love everything about my new floors. Segundo installed my granite countertop. The work was done in a timely matter and everything turned out beautiful. I feel like I have a new kitchen. I will definitely be back when I'm ready to do my showers and cabinets. read more
