These people are complete rip-offs! They claimed to have a 35% re-stocking fee, when they don't put it in their contract. They also claimed to have stocked all of the wood flooring I was considering BEFORE I ever closed on my house. They also never informed me that my credit was approved and wouldn't allow me to cancel my order within the three days allowed on their contract. DO NOT WORK WITH UNIVERSAL CARPET!!! Terrible sales, service and customer support. The sales people are not transparent and their point of sales system is non existent, so be ready to get lots of paper invoices with scribbles on it. If I could give this place zero stars I would. The salesperson showed us one carpet and installed an entirely different carpet! Upon calling them they inexplicably said that they used a different sample of carpet and padding from the one that is actually installed.. what is the point of showing me a sample if you're going to dupe me!? To keep it very short, I would rather pay hundreds more elsewhere than do business with them again. Funny part of that being that we paid hundreds more by doing business with them... Without getting into the nitty gritty details, the store manager was disrespectful to my wife until I joined her, we ended up paying almost twice as much on materials compared to what we would have elsewhere, and even at that price, he tried weasel out of what he promised he would. These guys are crooks, they don't have a professional installation crew. They don't tell you how much they are charging you for each item. I had them do my bathroom and some flooring, they gave me an all in price, but refused to give me individual pricing. When I decided not to do some parts, they didn't refund me the items that were not done. They falsified papers to the credit card company, and I hope No one uses them for their own sake. We have had nothing but the best service with Mourie at universal carpet. His expertise and patience with us as we have deliberated and designed our flooring choices has been so helpful. He was generous with his time, kind with our young son who has tagged along and full of sage advice. We did shop around a bit before at Home Depot and other stores and appreciated the financing available and no cost for the removal of our original floors (two bonus not offered at Home Depot). I am a real person! I recently had new laminate flooring installed by Universal carpet and couldn't be more satisfied and happier with the results. John was very helpful and after looking a picture of tile I wanted a match for, he picked out the perfect sample. The next day, John brought several samples, including the one I liked, to my home to view. I liked the original. John also came the second day of installation to make sure everything was going as planned. Installation by Miguel was excellent. He was here when he said he would be, kept everything as clean and tidy as possible, and finished when he said he would. The finished floors are seamless and beautiful, exceeding my expectations. If there were negative stars, this place would get it. WARNING- DO NOT do business with these ppl! Or do it AT YOUR OWN RISK! The absolute worst experience, period! Started off by lying about their unrivaled customer svc, which turned out to be nonexistent. The salesman promised to have the job done by end of week or a 10% off of total per day. He initially refused to put that in writing. When forced to, he scribbled some illegible crap( my fault for not pushing the issue n make him write it out clearly). Workers that showed up turned out to be some subcontractor who spoke little or no English. They were caught substituting the premium padding we ordered for cheap ones, refused to replace it, misaligned the wood floor panels so by the time it got to the bedroom sliding door, the last panel was literally a wedge shape. I called theirs boss and he tried to tell me it's bc my house is not a square. I said I measured it n every room is a perfect square. Its a million dollar beach house n I paid premium price n wanted quality work. He rudely said," that's how it is!" I said I have 5 homes with wood flooring and never ended up with a wedge shaped panel anywhere. I asked him to please come to the site and look for himself. He refused to and ordered the workers to chop up the flow of the floor plan by cutting off the panels at the room entrance and place a strip at the threshold to compensate for the misalignment. The workers missed many wall trimmings n left mist tacked down ill fitted, with some corners too short n others too long so where the trimming strips meet at the corner is too long that the trimming doesn't make contact with the wall. Wrong nails were used so the clean wood trimmings have nails stuck out everywhere. They damaged my antique French brick flooring in the kitchen n admittedly stole an area of bricks removed to be saved, and proclaimed they can't return them bc they sold them! They also took all the extra boxes or flooring we paid for. I reported this to their customer svc and they sent out the same guy! Except who is now a customer svc inspector, but decided today he was "no ingles!" So cannot help me and left! These ppl come with the mindset of how much they can get away with once they get your money, not what a great job they can do for the good money you pay them. Their customer svc dept is a joke. It's more like a brush off dept. they refuse to respond to concerns, are rude, and even refuse to give contact emails when you can't get a hold of anyone by phone, citing,"it's against company policy to give out email addresses." Obviously they don't want email communications as it's evidence of What really happened. "He said, she said" works much better for a company always prepared for trouble bc they know they are ripping off their customers. Follow up calls to them for the unresolved issues were promptly ignored, until 3 months later when my credit card company went to bat for me and took back the last installment. Now they called n want to send someone out! I told them I had already hired another company and fixed all that , SincE 3 months went by n I had been brushed aside by them. This is a rental property and it cost me many thousands in lost revenue during these months alone, not counting what I paid to repair and redo all the crap universal carpet(aka LA carpet) did. Their reply was a threat to sue me, instead of any form of apology! BRING IT! read more

After shopping around for new carpet for my condo, I decided to go with universal carpet since they had a much better selection, higher quality materials, and competitive prices compared to all other stores I visited (including Home Depot and Lowes). Not to mention they had the nicest showroom store. Home Depot btw said it would take 3 weeks before they could get carpet installed and after adding up all their fees and extras, they cost more too. Not sure about the other reviews here, since my experience with them was excellent. Very professional atmosphere, nice courteous salespeople, and lots to choose from. After choosing the right carpet that fit our budget (on a Friday evening) they had the installers there the next Monday morning to install. They were finished within 4-5 hours and did an excellent job. They even cleaned up all the remnants and scraps. I will definitely be using them again for my next project of upgrading our kitchen. My girlfriend and I recently purchased a condo, at the showing we were well aware of the fact that they had a cat inside the condo, but we thought that much of the smell was on the furniture. As soon as we moved in we realized that the smell was in the carpet. After shopping around a bit, my girlfriend and I came into universal carpet looking to replace the carpet with wood or laminate and spoke to a salesperson regarding the flooring, I made sure to mention that my girlfriend is allergic to cat, and that we had to get new flooring in ASAP. The salesperson was very knowledgeable on the flooring, both laminate and hardwood. They had a fantastic selection of both in all sorts of colors and styles. We ended up deciding on a beautiful bright laminate with a touch of red for the main areas of the condo, as well as a dark earthy tone for the bedrooms. Universal carpet understood the urgency of the job and was able to schedule in just under a week. When the workers showed up, they were very nice, and professional. The whole job took just three and a half days, and cost us little more than half of the other two quotes we got. There was no trace of the previous owners cat and there is nothing like walking around on new flooring in our new condo. I cannot wait to come back into universal carpet when I remodel the kitchen. read more

Would not recommend Universal in Irvine. Had carpet installed only in two bedrooms. At the time of purchase, I stressed that it had to be pet friendly. It is a Mohawk brand labeled pet friendly and it is not. Installation in one room by one installer went well. The other installer chipped the baseboards, left a burn mark in the carpet, and there were paint chips all over the walls. Customer service was contacted, I did what was required and never received any response. They don't answer. Had I known this store was part of LA Carpet, I would have never done business there. Now the seams are starting to really show after only five months. I worked with Tony after speaking with several other companies and I was very pleasantly pleased. He was very straight forward and did not waste my time like other company sales people did more than once. The price was very reasonable and the installers did a very nice job. They finished within the two days as Tony had estimated and the finish work was done very professionally. The only reason I did not go with 5 stars is because the workers left the work area messy after their first day there and then they had Sunday off (which is perfectly fine) but I would have expected them to tidy up since they would not be back the very next morning. Universal Flooring is the best all around in Orange County. My salesperson Nicki was so professional, honest and helpful when it came to selecting the carpet, tile and quartz for my vanities. She did the measurements herself, gave me the pricing and appropriate discounts (coupon) and held them (with no deposit) until I was ready for install, which took approx. a month's time. The installers of my carpet were awesome young men, they did an excellent job and were fast and courteous. They vacuumed and did all cleanup so I didn't have to do a thing. The quartz install was the same (different installers), however, very professional and courteous - job well done. I will be doing my kitchen in the near future and look forward to working with Nicki on the granite counter tops and tile flooring.
