I found this place on Yelp and I think it's a happy medium. It's not cheap but reasonable and the quality is great. I came to drop off an old Korean woman helped me. I pointed out special issues on my shirts that I needed deeper cleaning and she took note. When I picked up was satisfied. The armpit stains were gone and everything crisp & new. The prices she charged me were (as of 10/2015): 2 piece suit $8.95 Blouses $4 Men's dress shirt $1.90 Dress: $6.25 Hemming: $7 They take credit card for purchases $10.00 and up. She said 2 piece. I said No over the phone I asked for 3 piece. But I was like whatever and still left the suit there. I needed it the next day which was cool that they did it. They also take credit card not like the one on 3rd street and Hobart. This place is a little bit pricey. For a white button up (mens) dress shirt it would cost $3.??. I ordered a pair of slacks for a wedding I was attending on a Saturday. I didn't anticipate the delivery time and my slacks arrived on Thursday. Luckily Universal Cleaners was able to hem my pants and get them back to me on Saturday morning. I always flip the leg openings inside out to inspect the hem. UC did a great job and the charge was $8. Only forewarning is that they have a credit card minimum of $10, so unless you have multiple items, bring cash! I went here last week to get my pants hemmed. I've been here 2 times prior and the work has been done well. When I went in on dec 30th to get my pants hemmed the lady told me 7 dollars each and I dropped off 4 pairs. When I picked up my pants on sat she told me the price is 8 bucks per pants. And said because it is a "new year" Looking back I realized in the past she would write my total on the receipt she would give me when I drop off my pants. This time she did not write anything. Not sure if this was deliberate so she could charge me more. I don't mind paying the extra dollar but you need to be more clear ahead of time. I took my NEW and UNWORN wedding dress to get ironed because it had a lot of wrinkles. I chose Universal Cleaners because it has almost five stars on yelp, so I figured I could trust such an important piece of clothing to this business. However, they creased it right in the middle . It seems that on the inside of my dress a thread was pulled, which then created that line on the outside of my dress. My wedding is in a few days and it is too late to do anything about it now. I will just have to cover it with my bouquet in pictures. I keep trying to find comfort by telling myself that there are way worse things happening in the world than this. I just hope the business owners learn to be more careful with peoples clothing because they are being entrusted with it. Also, not friendly at all. This is one of the worst cleaners I've ever had to ultimately deal with! Of the 2 times that I've been there the prices go up every time. Each time I would take a dozen dress shirts (not cheap), and this is the only place to want to charge me extra for any starch! WTF! Making matters worse the old Korean lady that always comes to the front is a RUDE SOUR WITCH (switch the 'W' with the 'B'). Horrible customer service... I finally got my wedding dress dry cleaned 6 months after my actual wedding date. Why the wait? Cuz I simply thought my dress was not salvageable. I had an outdoor destination wedding in Bali during the summer of 2010. Let's just say we things got a little wild and all of the bridal party ended up in the resort pool, formal attire and all! My dress had rose petal stains on the bottom along with all kinds of weird stains resulting from the make shift pool party. I honestly thought my wedding dress was DUNZO at that point. After reading all the awesome reviews, I thought to myself, "What do I have got to lose?". $70 and a 1 month wait later, my dress is as good as new! They truly know how to clean clothes and their prices are great. The service is the best I have seen in SoCal. Secondly, I owned two dry cleaning plants with my own shirt laundry machines for over 20 years. This cleaners is TOP NOTCH in their abilities. I read some of the negative reviews and most are unfounded, NO OFFENSE to anyone. The lady who bought the items from India should know that many items from overseas are not meant to be dry cleaned. I have had some things fall apart on me here but because of my background I knew that their explanation made sense. I try to buy machine washable clothes as much as possible but when suits, jackets, and coats have to be dry cleaned, this is where I go. They're open before I go to work in the morning and close late enough so I can pick up on my way home. I'm terrible at domestic tasks so I also ask them to sew things for me. This past week I got 4 suit jackets dry cleaned and pressed, including one that needed some serious mending. I'm surprised by all he positive reviews since I have had a terrible time with this cleaners. Perhaps they've had new management in the last year given all of the other reviews are at least a year old. My husband and I started using this cleaner in the last year upon moving to the neighborhood and recently I had two terrible incidents that will keep me from coming back and advise others to be careful when using them About a month ago my husband dropped off a large load of laundry including two silk blouses of mine for dry cleaning. At some point I realized we never got the blouses back from the cleaners. We inquired and they said they had no record of them. I searched everywhere in case I was mistaken and hadn't dropped them off after all, but couldn't find them anywhere. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to being misplaced on my end (even though I was sure that wasn't the case) so we kept using them. But the final straw is we just got dry cleaning back from them and they destroyed one of my favorite pairs of pants. It's clear they must have washed them in hot water instead of dry cleaning them, as they have shrunk significantly. They are at least an inch shorter at the ankles and the color is faded from what was a rich hunter green to a dusty olive khaki, with even more color loss at the seams, pockets, etc. indicating they scorched the delicate pants with a hot iron. I will never go back here again after these two incidents in such a short time. read more

The first time I came to this Cleaners the older lady was very nice. I picked up my clothe and everything was good. So I decided I would continue to bring my garments. Then the following time I brought in a couple of more items, when i picked up my cleaning I notice my blouse and dress had discolored circles on a couple of areas didn't want to make a big deal, I softly asked the same nice lady about the stains then things took a turn!!! She rolled her eyes and started giving me attitude saying this is how u brought it in the stains are not gonna come out, I briefly got upset and said fuck it I won't bother with it. So lastly I regretfully decided to give it one more go at dropping off and of course when I picked up my pieces one of my silk soft blouses was stiff almost like a rough burn material texture I finally got upset and told her when I gave u my stuff this blouse did not feel like that. She got mad told me I once again brought it in this way. So finally she calls and older man from the back of the room to come and talk to me, first he also rolled his eyes told me that there was no way that happened at his place and that I wouldn't get a discount which I never asked for!!!! I asked if they can try to soften my blouse like it was before? he got mad and said take it somewhere else.. I don't understand what kind of business etiquette this is but completely uncalled for, secondly I paid for my shit I was being nice. So I really don't know what the problem is. Hopefully they change customer service but it clearly was my fault for going again after the first fuck up.. This dry cleaner was very affordable, I think it was only 8 bucks a suit. However, it took the place a week to have my two suits cleaned, which is very slow. Also, there was no woman who remembered my name. Folks, you got me all excited about that. Perhaps I just have a boring face not worthy of recognition. Therefore, I have to say this place is average. I suppose my rating is unfair if I have only visited once, but with my schedule I can't really wait on my suits for a week. So since it was pretty average in all ways, but very slow. I'm a bargain hunter, so when I saw that the owner paid over $1200.00 to have them made & was selling them for $100.00 I jumped on it! The only caveat was that I had to get them professionally dry cleaned & they needed some repair from his two, too-playful cats. I took them into a local cleaners on 8th street & they wanted over $40 to clean just 1 panel! I was a bit concerned having to spend almost twice as much to clean & repair the bargain I finally found! I piled the 4 panels in my large bag & did a Yelp search... VOILA! I found Universal Cleaners on Beverly Blvd (only a few blocks away from home)! GET THIS: They charged me 1/2 of what I was previously quoted. I dropped the rest of my dry cleaning off & have been more than pleased with the results! Give them a try! My bargain basement, pay up front dry cleaners went out of business. Took the word of Yelpers and came here instead! I HATE dropping $20s on dry cleaning, and this place isn't quite as cheap as the pay-up-front places, but they did a great job on my clothes for a whole lot better price than Imperial Cleaners a few blocks south. Convenient so far to just pull up and park right out front. She turned around my clothes (~10 items) in 3 or 4 days. But this last time really left a bad taste in my mouth. They ruined a new and expensive pair of jeans that I had just purchased. It was obvious that they had shrunk and hemmed my pants. Which I did not want. The texture of my jeans were softened as if they had been put in water and the length went from 31 to 25. Also the previous time I went to pick up clothes, I arrived only to be told only half of my clothes were ready. Don't recommend this place at all. I've been here quite a few times and they really do a hell of a job. Prices are rock bottom and the quality is fantastic. Their weekend hours also impressive if you don't have time to come in during the week. They particularly do an amazing job on stitching. If you have anything that needs sewing, bring it here. They will honestly do a much better job than you trying it out solo. I used to work out east and the cleaners in NJ are roughly double the price than Universal and they always threw way too much starch in the mix (which would wreck dress shirts). I've gone to Universal Cleaners for approximately 5 years. Until recently, I've had only one problem -- a bleach stain on one of my dress shirts. On that occasion the owner promptly fixed the problem. Recently, two of my laundered dress shirts were ripped under the arm. The tears were in the same location on both shirts and the rips were about three inches long. When I brought this to the attention of the owner, he tried to convince me that the rips were ordinary wear and tear and not caused by the automated machine that is used to clean dress shirts. I pointed out to the owner the the shirts were irregularly ripped with jagged tears, both at the exact same location, and that it could not have been from ordinary wear and tear. The fact that I had not had a problem for 5 years and then in the same batch of cleaning both shirts were shredded supported my belief that something went wrong with the automated machine that is used to launder shirts. Over the course of our ten minute discussion about this, I showed the shirts to three other customers in the cleaners. All three agreed that the shirts were ripped and not damaged from ordinary wear and tear. Frankly, this was obvious to anyone with a scrap of common sense and the owner's effort to convince me otherwise led me to conclude that he was simply lying to avoid responsibility for his negligence. If he had apologized, given me some reasonable credit, and assured me it wouldn't happen again, I would have continued to use this cleaners. However, he did not. He lied and refused to accept responsibility for his failings. I'm now looking for a new cleaners. read more

All the Five Star reviews are legit! I purchased my wedding dress (previously worn once) and the seller kind of misrepresented the damage to the bottom layer of the full organza pleated mermaid gown. There was a very noticeable brown ring at the tail end. I brought it to Universal Cleaners and one month and $100 later the ring is gone. there's a reason why this place has a perfect 5 star rating. the owner is a modest, soft-spoken Korean woman, who doesn't say much, but she does so with a smile. she probably doesn't even know what yelp is. I found this place through the reviews below so decided to give it a try. I had a verrry big challenge for her. it was a designer polyester/suade jacket I wore on new years eve, which, well, resembled more of a hospital bed sheet after I took it on in a drunken stupor. I was so ashamed of taking this in anywhere, I was thinking of taking a big loss. nonetheless, I brought it in (my own girlfriend didn't want to touch it), and without comment or judgment, at least out loud =p, she told me it was going to be difficult, and would take a lot of time. she quoted me $10 and estimated 4 days. I figured if she could save it, I'd pay anything. I came back, ready to pay her regardless of the result, and instead, was astounded. it looked BRAND NEW. then she only charged me $6.25.
