I discovered Zizi's purely by chance. My FIL is a retired dentist and he still gets a crap load of magazines to his house that use to go to his office for his clients. Most of them are sent to my house to read since he doesn't read them. In the Chicago's Best issue of Chicago Magazine this year, there was an article about Zizi's in there being a place to check for getting your brows done. On the strength of that, I thought I would give it a try. I had my brows done several months ago out of desperation at a place I should not have gone to and it was a disaster. I had to basically let mine grow out to repair the damage. I made an appointment online for a Saturday at 8:30 am. Like other reviews stated, she was late but by 3-5 minutes, which was not a deal breaker for me. Once she showed up, she was very apologetic and quite lovely. Zizi was quite adorable and very personable. She talked me through the process of what she was doing, made recommendations and showed me how to apply brow make-up to enhance my brows. She also offered to tint my brows to make my hair. While I know a lot of women do the make-up and tinting, this is not something I would do...too much work for me. But Zizi did an amazing job on shaping my brows. It was relatively painless and she was pleasant to chat with while it was being done. She even them up and brought back my arch. The space itself is lovely...clean and calm. There's plenty of metered street parking. Even with being late, the entire process was less than 30 mins, which is what I put on the meter. By the time I got to the counter to pay, there was a steady stream of clients coming in. Zizi's not only does brows, but hair, facials and nails. Glad I got in when I did because it looked like it was going to be a busy day. I have already scheduled my appointment for next month with her. read more

I've had effed up eyebrows for years, due to an unfortunate freakish mishap when I was four (I was running with my eyes closed after an ice cream truck and ran smack dab into a 10-foot pipe). I've paid insane prices to get my one stick straight and the other highly arched brows into shape (including the owner of Channings on Oak...YUCK), and Zizi was the only one who could do it. Zizi is an amazing find.... she is a genius at brow shaping but super affordable considering the quality of her work. The only thing you should be aware of though, is Zizi can really run late. I've waited for her on average for about an hour. But truly, there is no one else who can do what she can, and she is honestly super sweet, that I just make sure I either schedule a super early slot in the am (like 6:30a or 7a) or I allocate at least an hour if it's going to be later in the day. read more

I rarely give out five star reviews. But, in this case five stars are warranted. My first experience with ZiZi was the consulation. It was clear that she is extremely knowledgeable and professional. After the consult, I decided to have the microdermabrasion on my eyebrows. ZiZi considered my desired look, skin and hair color and eyebrow shape. She nailed it. Since the procedure, I have gotten lots of compliments from strangers and friends. Not compliments on the work done, just on how beautiful my eyebrows look. Before the procedure, my eyebrows were thinning with age related bare spots. Now they are full & shapely with a color that compliments my skin tone. They highlight my face, even without makeup. I want to write an update of my experience- as you can read on my other revews, I had my eyelid/eyeliner corrected at another salon. Well, I choose to have the other salon also re-do my eyebrow permenent makeup as well, recently. After comparing the two salons, I must downgrade ZiZi another star, down to 1 (lowest rating) my brows are SO much better from the other shop, there is no comparison. She is great. WHEN she is on time. My first experience occurred late spring when I had my eyebrows done. She was ONE HOUR behind. That meant, waiting in a very small area with limited seating for an hour. By the way, her salon is NOT near shops etc.. so that you can spend time doing something else while waiting. I had read all of the positive reviews about her talent and the quality of work. And I waited. Waited more. Annnnnd waited some more. She does a great job! However, after wasting an hour waiting, I was less than impressed with the overall service experience. I decided to give it another try and chalked it up to time of year. My second time was even worse and this time - I did get a call. I got a call 5 minutes before my appointment time to let me know they were running 45 minutes late. It's too bad, they called just as I was parking my car. She gets one star for poor service but good work. It's a trade-off BUT I'd rather NOT waste my time waiting and have a better experience. Don't go to get your eyebrows tattoo!!! I went in and she made me wait 2H for 15min working on my eyebrows. The result is bad, it's a waste of money. First of all it's extremely expensive and then she doesn't do a good job. After 7 days almost everythings disappear. Now I have some holes and some dark spots in my eyebrows. It's totally not uniform and I have to pay someone else to retouch it. I called her to talk with her about it, she never return my calls. I left a message to her assistant, no news! ZiZi is the best!! Universal Esthetics's by ZiZi came highly recommended from one of my colleagues. ZiZi is very professional and she is gifted in the art of eyebrow sculpting. When you go to her for the first time she gives you a full consultation and lets you know what she thinks the best shape is for your face. I've been to other places where you sit down and they go to town without asking you what you want (I will yelp about them later). I actually went in with a photo of what I wanted my eyebrows to look like and she, without making me feel stupid, let me know the look I was going for wasn't for me. I discovered Zizi years ago & was a frequent customer at her Welles street salon. She's tops when it comes to brows & in my opinion, gives highly praised mainstream brow artists such as Anastasia & Damone a run for the money! I've never been unhappy with her work with brows & she's offered great little tips that I've used for years! (never knew about Emu Oil or drying my face with a paper towel as opposed to towel pre Zizi) She's the best & everyone I've ever recommended to her agrees! The best facial you can get in this town! I have moved to Chicago from Europe last December and you can consider me the most demanding of most demanding. I know what I want as I have always tried to take care of my skin and due to my globetrotting life style I have been getting facials all over the world. Simply said I know a good esthetician when I see one. I tried several places before Zizi and honestly speaking I was getting rather desperate. I started to think that here in USA everywhere you go you get creams and products thrown on your face, wiped off and after 50min you go home not quite understanding what you just spent your money on?? Let me start by saying, Zizi is a lovely woman and does a spectacular job on brow shaping. I am sad to have to find someone new. Last time I had an appointment for a tweeze, which takes all of 5 minutes, I waited 25. I then had to leave, because I had another appointment I did not want to be late for. Fast forward to today. I booked my appointment 5 days ago using the online booking. I showed up this morning and no one is even at the salon. I double checked my confirmation email and called the salon and got no answer. So, if you have absolutely no where to be afterwards and verify over the phone before you come, you will have a stress free experience and beautiful brows. An acquaintance referred me to Zizi, and it is the best referral I have ever received! Having been fore-warned about how large of a clientele Zizi has, I took the opportunity to book my first brow and chin waxing appointment in the middle of the day during a weekday. Universal Aestetics is right next to a cleaners at the corner of 16th and Wabash. Be warned, there is no sign on the front door announcing "Universal Aestetics". The waxing suites are spa quality and fairly private. A few minutes after my appointment, Zizi escorted and verified services I was there to receive. She waxed my brows and laid out a plan on how we will get them to grow in the right areas. She showed me the proper way to apply brow powder and she also showed me a trick on how to better highlight my eyes -- WHAT A BONUS!! She also did a chin wax. I explained a recurring issue I was having and she then gave me a referral to a renowned dermatologist. Lastly, she showed me a reflexology trick to do for homework to support brow growth. In parting, she suggested timing for a next appointment with her, gave me a hug and thanked me for coming. I paid the receptionist on my way out. I must say, for the level of service I received, the cost for the services was reasonable. All in all, I got way more than I expected from this appointment. Zizi is a warm, considerate person, and I was extremely impressed with her knowledge, know-how and professionalism. My days of searching for a brow specialist in Chicago are gone; this is where I will be. read more

I love the work that Zizi did on my eyebrows. All of a sudden, I look like Audrey Hepburn--she has an amazing eye! She is also a lovely, pleasant person, very professional about sanitized instruments, and very knowledgeable. I see that some of the reviewers complain that she runs late, and yes, she ran a bit late for me too. I don't think that's a huge price to pay for a transformation of how you look, and I will definitely return. She also uses natural minerals rather than chemical inks, and her results last much longer than other brow-people's work. read more

I had a brow sculpting with ZiZi and it was a very positive experience. As another reviewer wrote ZiZi is very knowledgable about her craft. She takes a lot of time educating her client about eyebrow growth and also provides makeup tips of how to highlight the eyebrows as well as the eye. You can tell immediately that she is a kind person. The cost for the eye brow waxing is almost twice that of other places ($28), but she does put a good amount of time into shaping your brows, and provides a brief temple massage. Overall, it was a nice experience and you do feel pampered after leaving. She also dyes eyebrows too. I haven't done that yet, but if I do I will update my review on that experience as well. I believe the shape of one's eyebrows frames the face, therefore, it is essential to pursue their symmetry through the arch and the appropriate hair thickness. Before I moved to Old Town, over 10 years ago, my brows have been through a lot! I had been plucked, threaded and waxed by almost every eyebrow "maven" from Lake Forest to Chicago. Most of them were average at best but I always left feeling frustrated. I felt I just wasted my money paying for a service that I could have done myself at home with the same results. All of that changed when I discovered Zizi in small, unpretentious studio on Wells Street. Zizi is a miracle worker when is comes to brow shaping. Like an artist her hands transform these ugly, catepiller-looking strips of hair above our eyes into stunning, arched brows- as if Michelangelo himself was whispering into her ear! You may laugh at my comparison, however, if you have ever been to see Zizi yourself you know I am not being overly dramatic. Then you too will be just like me- another convert to Zizi and her amazing brow sculptures. Her professional abilities speak for themselves and it doesn't hurt that she also happens to be one of the nicest, most compassionate human beings I have ever met. Zizi is also a professional aesthetician (who knows more about skincare than my old dermatologist!) who offers amazing, personalized facials too. To be fair though, there are two negative aspects of Universal Esthetics by Zizi that I would like to share. One is the Near South Side location. I live in Lakeview and now have to "commute" to get my brows taken care of. The area is not great either. However, there is always a police presence in the neighborhood on foot and by car. Parking is not easy either and if you are female I would be careful walking alone outside. Just be aware of your surroundings. So, congratulations, you've arrived at Universal Esthetics by Zizi and it is your first appointment. Bring a laptop, book, friend, sudoku, whatever- something to pass the time. Because Zizi is always running late. She takes time with each of her clients and never rushes through a procedure and you will not be an exception. So, even though you have an appointment made say at 1pm you may not be walking out of her doors until 3:00pm. Be prepared to wait! And then wait some more! But after you finally get into the room with Zizi all is forgotten. She works her magic and keeps her prices surprisingly affordable. read more

I'm going to try to be as brief as possible... This was the absolute worst spa experience I have ever had. After constantly hearing people's praises about ZiZi, I had to give her a try. My appt. was the wed. before mothers day, it was for a facial, full leg wax and bikini. When I previously spoke with ZiZi she said that she didn't do brazilians but she would get me as close as possible to one. I did move my appt. up from 2:30 to 12, and I told her whatever was comfortable for her schedule I would be flexible (so I was not twisting her arm). I got there 12:08, she started 12:15, she was still not done with my facial at 2:55pm! She did three brows in between while answering phones and the door. Now remember I still have to get my waxing done, she tells me to come back after a 3:15 appt. I had to be at, so she could finish my facial! I come back, she does my waxing (which I still have burns from now), then she tells me to come back tommorrow so she can finish my facial! You would think that she would have been apologetic for the major inconvienence but No! So I basically had to come a total of three times for her to complete one appt. She still charged me full price and even charged twenty dollars over what we had agreed upon before my appt. I ended up calling her a couple days later because I was still feeling a little un-easy about the situation, and I asked her if this was how appt.'s were on a regular basis, she said no and that she was in between receptionists, I told her that I understood that, but she then went on to say that " I normally don't Cookie Cut my time, and I was lucky to get you in with it being mothers day week-end." First of all my appt. had been previously scheduled for Wednesday, which is NOT the week-end, and as far as "Cookie Cutting" time... really! I didn't sett my appt., you did. I was a first time client, she was very hospitable during my service, she was very nice, but not once did she ever apologize for the inconvienence (I live 20mins from downtown, so think of all the trips I had to make), nor did she try to provide any compensation. Overall I was just so disappointed, because I received literally the WORST SPA experience I have ever had, I guess I'll never know what all the fuss was about. read more
