We DoorDashed the order and the food came nicely prepared and packaged with order labels and our names written on top of the lids. Pleasantly surprised to discover that Shaloka is a food court stand in Eastview Mall. The quality of their bowls exceeded my expectations of typical food court food. What sets Shaloka apart from Tai Chi is their fruit bowls (Açai and Pitaya/Dragonfruit) and also their Signature Bowls. The fruit bowls are super refreshing and are akin to a smoothie in a spoon and bowl format. Their Signature Bowls also take the guesswork out of it. They are recipes that have already been tested. They are still customizable and you can even build your own like at Tai Chi if you wanted to. I got their Signature Hawaiian Classic bowl and it was delicious. Ahi tuna, salmon, avocado...enough said. It was yummy and I actually really loved their brown rice. It was short grain and had some good texture. Overall, it's the best poke i've had in Rochester, which isn't saying too much because there aren't too many other options. But it played with the spinach perfectly it reminded me very much of a spanakopita, which I also love. The baklava was also excellent. It was perfectly flaky on the outside, and the honey, and the nuts inside were just fantastic. It is one of the better baklava that I have ever had. Now let's talk about the Turkish coffee. I've had Lebanese coffee, and I loved, and Ithought was strong.... the Turkish coffee makes Lebanese coffee taste like decaf that you would get from a cheap corner diner. With just a little bit of milk and sugar, it was perfect it was rich, and it was strong! At this point, I could probably make it to six hours to my destination without a car :). I think it makes everything taste like diet chalk. I am pleased to report my banana shake did NOT taste like chalk, and I downed the whole thing throughout the course of an afternoon. I am grateful for anything that includes calorie counts these days. As I am aiming to be a bit more mindful about how much I am consuming in a given day (and of what!) this is really helpful. Roast master told me he does the sourcing, blending and roasting. This one had Ethiopian and Colombian beans. Fabulous blend of earthy and chocolate tones. I bought a pound to prepare with my French Press at hotel and the roaster grinded it to a perfect coarse. Side note: please never drink coffee from those hotel room machines. You can always do better! Come, have a coffee, have lunch, buy beans or ground coffee for your enjoyment at home. This is the type of place that makes café lovers feel right at home, even when traveling.
