Usually I enjoy this place, but the past two times I've had very poor service. I Specifically asked three or four times if the pizza I ordered was with tomato, basil, and mozz, he said "yes", and stated that its the standard pizza, news to me, but whatever, ok, "16.00$ please..." he states, "really, Its usually about 21$, you sure that's tomato, fresh basil, and mozz?" I ask, "yes, yes, its our regular pizza" he replied, managing to speak thru the dense sweat across his upper lip... I prayed and hoped it was the right pizza...perhaps I should have asked a fourth time....maybe then he would have been sure, but I did not ask a fourth time since it IS his job and he should know, so who am I to question him? 40 minutes after sitting and waiting I walk up and asked if the pizza under my name is done (seeing it on top of the oven), the nice, pretty blonde girl with the cheek piercing hands the pizza over and says "cheese", "cheese?" I ask - , "yes", Hmm, I wanted tomato basil and mozz, and I asked about 4 times to make sure that's what I got, and I waited more than a half hour, sitting here, and the box was sitting there for how long?" , she was fine and apologized to us, but Mr. greasy lips tried to hid behind them, and ignored what he knew to be somewhat, if not all, a fault of his. I don't know if he was stoned or, just having a bad day, but, two thing are for sure; one, no-one gets a 16$ cheese pizza at The upper crust - its robbery, and two, you can't tell that guy something 3 or 4 times and expect it to be understood. Me and my date were extremely disappointed and would have gone to the grocery store if we wanted marginal service and a basic cheese pizza....they seemed to be more interested in keeping their music current than keeping the busy Saturday night crowd satisfied. Criticism isn't constructive without suggestions so....lets be honest, the job is not hard - I would suggest employees are hired based on their ability to understand simple requests and can maintain their ability to listen, rather than blow through an order with no attention to detail and risk losing a customer. Customer service was inadequate and cost us our night. I won't be back, but I hope it does improve. read more

Upper crust suits me just fine when I want to meet a friend for a bite. I get a salad and slice of the day combo and it's always unique and delicious and just enough food at the right price. And besides...by getting whole wheat crust, I don't feel like such a fatty Patty 2X4. Seating can be rough, but not impossible. read more

i remember when upper crust pizza used to be a really big deal, and im not sure what exactly happened to the business. maybe its just that there have been a lot of newer pizza places popping up (ottos, zing, etc.) or maybe its because the novelty of upper crust pizza has faded. regardless of the reason, this place has pretty good, standard pizza. in my opnion though, there are a few better options that boston/cambridge have to offer. in general, the pizza here is good. its thin crust, and they have a variety of toppings--pretty standard. one of the downfalls to this place though is that they usually only have one special type of pizza a day that they offer by the slice. often the special pizza isnt vegetarian, which can certainly limit your options, especially if you want something specific. they can always do full pizzas of any type, but their full pizzas can get a little expensive for what you get. its a pizza place...so i dont have too much to comment about atmosphere. its not anything fancy, but its a nice place to sit down and talk with friends. some of the locations serve beer and wine, which is a nice bonus for the typical pizza joint. in total, this place is great if youre just looking for a quick bite and craving a little pizza, but if you want something really special, id look to other local pizza places. read more

Its ok pizza. I actually really enjoy the crust. I like the cornmeal bite it has to it. Reminds me of when i make homemade crusts and stuff. Ive only actually had their pizza once. Good amount of toppings. However service is really hit or miss. My friends ordered a large pizza and i ordered a salad with chicken breast. It took me 20min to get the goddamn salad!! HELLO! Its lettuce and veggies and while I am no expert, a chicken breast does not take 20min to cook. pa-leaaaassseee. The pizza was out, and half eaten by the time i got my salad. Minus stars for that. Are people really complaining about the Upper Crust? It's Neapolitan pizza, that means it's ridiculously thin (and crispy thanks to a brush of olive oil) and has a chunky sauce. Assuming you like this kind of pizza, the Upper Crust is as good as it gets. It's not too greasy and the flavors from the superior ingredients really pop. I actually am a huge fan of the veggie pizza! And I'm a guy who prefers his pizza with meat stacked on top of meat. See? Eating here makes you more healthy. read more

One of the best pizza places in Boston though it isn't always cheap (though slices do start at only $2.50). The whople pizza is what you want here though. With a large selection of traditional and gourmet toppings you will find endless combinations that leave your mouth watering for more. Upper Crust...Great Pizza. I loved the thin crunchy crust, and the large slices. They had a huge selection of pizzas to order as well as a long list of toppings you could add, from anchovies to baby clams. But if you just want a slice...your choices are much slimmer You gotta love Boston seafood. My girlfriend and I got the White Spinach Pizza, with an added topping of Shrimp. I was debating on whether to get the small or the Large, since we had a day of sightseeing in front of us, but i went with the large, and boy am I glad. The pizza was awesome fresh out the oven,and it was also great several hours later after kayaking the Charles River, and to me that is the true test of a pizza, the first round, and then the second and third snacking sessions have to be good as well, and Upper Crust passed the test. The added Parmesan and red pepper gave it the kick it needed, it was good without it, just a little bland. The inside decor was your basic modern walk-in restaurant, simple plastic, but they had all these old pizza pans hanging from the ceiling, its the little bits of creative ingenuity that I dig, they were like hundreds of dangling flying saucers. Great pizza, moderately priced. Upper Crust is a winner, if you're in the mood for pizza definitely check them out. read more

It's the best pizza in the area, and the servings are large. Although you end up paying for the size, as a full pizza is a little expensive. I would give four stars, but I took one off because they sometimes rush through making a pizza... you'll end up getting a pizza missing toppings on one half every now and then. For $20 you should have evenly distributed beef on your pizza! read more

I am a HUGE fan of a nice clean place I can get a bangin' slice of zaa with a beer or a glass of wine. Now that's what I'm talkin about! They even have the appropriate beer garnishes like lemons limes and orange slices. Love it, love it love it! AND now when it is too crowded to sit here I can go to the new one on comm ave! Who am I kidding, if it is full and I am hungry I am walking across the street to Panera, but it is nice to see a QUALITY chain popping up- with beer and wine no less:) Although their pizza is awesome it is too thin for delivery- gets mushy too fast- gotta eat it there. Some of my favorite pizza! This is the only thin crust pizza I've ever enjoyed -- it's crispy around the edges but perfectly soft in the middle and perfectly flavorful. The toppings are light -- just a bit of sauce and a bit of cheese (plus whatever else you choose to add) -- which lets the amazingness of the crust shine through. Excellent and unique topping choices, as well. I usually prefer to stick with classic pizza toppings, but their "Cameron's BBQ" pizza (with breaded chicken, thin strips of white onion and BBQ sauce instead of marinara sauce) is wonderful! read more

This review refers only to the delivery my roommate and I got. I've had their pizza on site and I thought it was decent/good. First of all the woman taking the order was incredibly rude and shouted at my roommate for changing his order (after hearing the specials). Then they totally messed up the order. We ordered a half BBQ chicken half basil tomato pizza ND got 2 pizzas, one bbq chicken and one half bbq chicken half bbq chicken and basil tomato. I found the bbq chicken disgusting. It just tasted like chicken candy to me. I'm not sure how a place could do worse than treating customers poorly and having bad food. I guess they still have decent pizza on premises but I will not order anything from them again. read more

Had a small mushroom pepperoni delivered to my hotel. Pizza was pretty good. When it arrived it was no longer warm, but I was hungry, so I ate it. The crust is very thin, like tortilla thin! That's good, so I didn't get stuffed from a bunch of dough! read more
