Is UPS the Latin word for incompetence? My experience says it must be. on Friday, May 8, I stayed home all day waiting for an expected package I needed to do a presentation on Monday morning. As this was ground delivery service without extras only Mon. - Friday delivery was available. at 5:30pm I went out to get something from my car parked on the street and found an attempted delivery notice left by the driver. I was home all day, did not even risk taking a shower for fear of missing him/her. The notice stated "need gate access to deliver." Funny, if you want gate access let me know you are F&%KING here by ringing the apartment buzzer. They NEVER did. Had they then the notice would have read no answer or words to that affect and not that they could get in the gate. Logic dictates. I called the # on the tag. spoke to a guy who promised a UPS rep would call me back within two hours. I waited 90 minutes and finally took a shower. Big mistake because that's when then called. I believe it was them because I found a call had come in from an 818 number but, of no surprise stemming from the incompetence I'd already encounter, the caller did NOT leave a message. Assuming it was UPS I called back 5 times but only got a busy signal each time.
So how the hell doesn't calling me back, missing me and not leaving a message help me fix the problem that YOU UPS caused? The next day I called again, got the same guy I spoke to the night before. He apologized, pulled up my complaint, said he'd call the distribution center, speak to them and then after confirming a live person would be there to speak with, would only then forward my call. Sadly when the call WAS forwarded it when to a voice mail box which was full. completely contrary to what he claimed he'd do or the person at the distribution center he spoke to intentionally let the call go to voice mail. So for those keeping score we are no at strike to with United Parcel Stupids. I called back, getting a different person, who someone couldn't find record of who'd I'd just spoke to, so I had to go over the story again. after being put on hold numerous times, she comes back with "good news." I can go pick it up at the distribution center. she was surprised I didn't find it to be good news, as I explained I DID NOT HAVE a car that day and further more, it's YOUR F&$K up, don't make me waste time and gas to drive somewhere and get something that YOU UPS was paid to deliver. Oh, and I was told I had 30 minutes to get there. She also stated that was all she or anyone could do and clearly could care less that this was a UPS caused problem or the need for them to go above and beyond standard policies and procedures to correct it.
To compensate for the needed materials I had to take a 90 minute drive to Orange County to pick up extra copies from a fellow teacher. Is UPS going to pay for my time and gas, of course not. On Monday morning, May 11, on my way to the presentation, a UPS contact, a woman called. me. I explained all I had gone through again, expressed my absolute shock and dismay and added "this is why your are losing customers to Fed Ex." She offered to make sure it was deliver today, that day and I explained it was too late. I did say that I still needed the material and that I would be home the next day, today, Tuesday, May 12 in order to receive it. She assured me it would be delivered and that date, the next day. Once more I stayed home ALL DAY long and when 6pm came, there was till no package. When I called the number on the slip and entered the number I was told that the package was being held for a more convenient date. Yes, that date was Tuesday, the day I once again stayed home to receive it. When I called the UPS number again, which by the way, I have now memorized, and after being placed on hold 4 times, I was told that the package was still at the distribution center and had never left. I hung up.
Once more I called UPS, because it seems a day isn't complete without me calling them. I once more went over the whole story, and the rep apologized and assured me he would have the distribution center manager call me in the morning. I never did receive that call. I called them when I got home at 6pm and once more repeated my growing story of UPS incompetence. I demanded to speak to a supervisor who cared about the image of UPS as well as customer service. I was place on hold for 17 minutes, I finally gave up and hung up. The next day I came home at 11am to pick up something and the short time I was here, UPS actually showed up with the package. A package which was clearly marked in felt pen, hold for delivery for May 12.
For God's sake, Save your sanity, save you money and DO NOT US UPS!!! There IS a reason they are cheaper than Fed Ex. read more
