What a wonderful find. We just moved to Ormond Beach and decided to explore inland a bit and ended up in Deland. Since it was Memorial Day most of the businesses, including restaurants, were closed for the day. We saw that Urban Brick was just opening for lunch and looked up the menu on our phone. It looked like us (were foodies who recently escaped from California). We came in and were seated and Nick came over and introduced himself as our waiter. He told a bit about the area and the local food. Their menu is mostly Pizza, Calzones, Pastas, Salads and Starters. We ordered the Farmers Market Salad and the Signature Sweet & Salty Pizza to share. Both were delicious! The salad was mixed greens, strawberries, feta, tomato, avocado, candied pecans, and raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The pizza was mozzarella, gorgonzola, romano, red onion, candied fig, fresh parsley, olive oil, garlic and prosciutto. The sweet fig with the salty prosciutto was a great juxtaposition of flavors. Not one Italian Red Wine by the glass on the menu. $50.oo a Bottle. Tried the meatballs for an appetizer. They were not served with any bread. The server said that I had to order it separately. I did. Ten or twelve minutes later a basket for 4 slices of flat focaccia dripping with oil and barely warm arrived. Meatballs were cold by then. They charged $11.00 for the bread. I was about 10 mins late picking up the order to go home, but 2 of the entrees were t even started until after I asked where they were in my order. I finally got my order 30 mins after I was told it was going to be ready. Unfortunately I was unable to eat my order (vegetable primavera with lightly blackened chicken). I like garlic, but it had WAY too much in it. One of the other entrees was penne alla vodka with shrimp. There was hardly any sauce in it and the shrimp was too salty. Fantastic dining experience. We were immediately greeted and seated (we were a little early and there were available tables). Our server Jess was so fun and personable. She was able to immediately tuned our likes and her recommendations were spot on! I enjoyed the 4 cheese ravioli. I'm not a big fan of wilted spinach and learned that they make every order fresh and that I could make it the way I wanted. Perfect portion size and my tip for you: save the delicious garlic bread to the end of the meal so that you won't embarrass yourself by licking the plate, use the bread to get every last drop! Hubby enjoyed the fresh small chopped salad and house made Lasagna. The combination of ground beef and sausage was perfect. They have a good wine/ beer selection. Rose assisted with service and we learned that she is the owner. She is very personable, welcoming and added that personal touch that adds to the authenticity of the Italian dinner. From the street, this looks like a very hip pizza joint, but once you're inside, looking over the menu, talking to the staff, you realize it's really a good ol' pizza joint at heart - I like good ol' pizza joints. This one had all the favorites. We had garlic knots as an appetizer, they were good, my wife enjoyed their spaghetti while I decided to go with their meat calzone - absolutely no complaints. Ambiance is hip, but the attitude is old school "joint" and the service was simply wonderful. Our server was attentive, was gracious when I spilled my drink and helped me clean it up, and kept our drinks "bottomless". First time trying Urban Brick. Service was great. Clearly the staff are happy. Right or wrong, that always makes me think it's likely the management cares. Meatballs were fantastic! I'm a meatball snob. These are in the top 2 of all time. I also ordered the spinach dip (which I tend not to do at a new place because... well... it normally disappoints me). But it was awesome. You know when there's a little bit left and you're trying to save room for the meal, it's not worth putting in a to go container. Well I took that little bit home in a container. It had cheese that you could taste. And I'm not carb free, so eating it with their delicious (and not too crispy it hurts your teeth) focaccia toast made it even better. Loved it. We went to Urban Brick for the first time on the Monday before Christmas Eve. Most restaurants in DeLand are closed on Mondays, so Urban Brick was understandably mobbed. However, the staff, even though they were very busy and stressed, were very friendly and worked hard to accommodate us. We ordered the Pinot Noir recommended by our waitress, and it was delicious. We ordered their mushroom pizza and their marguerite pizza and they were also delicious. One of our party shies away from pizza because she doesn't care for it that much, but with the pizza we got at Urban Brick she was impressed and loved it. We'll definitely be going back. read more

This is a great little pizza shop. If you're into artisanal pizzas, you will love this place. Everything is made with fresh, locally sourced, natural ingredients. Some ingredients are even imported from Italy. What I like the most about this place is that their food is creative and unique. I ordered the sweet and salty. It was an interesting combination of gorgonzola, mozzarella, red onions, figs, romano, parsley, garlic and olive oil, and prosciutto. It was awesome! The flavors worked so well together. Portions are not super large, but enough for two to share. The atmosphere was welcoming. Service was also polite. Our waitress was lovely and attentive. Unfortunately, I can't remember her name. Fabulous dinner tonight at Urban Brick..we were just visiting Deland for the weekend and neede to accommodate gluten free and vegetarian...We totally scored with this choice. Gluten free pizza was delicious and the egglant lasagna was spectacular as was the foccacia bread that came with it. Our 3rd friend had the meatballs and salad with pears and gargonzola cheese. For dessert the glutin free chocolate torte was little the best dessert I think I ever ate! Our friend had delicious canollis. The staff was friendly and inviting. The owner came over to talk with us. It was a bit of a wait for the food, but certainly worth it in quality of food and preparation and presentation. Great job! I had the Signature Frittis to start- pizza dough full of cheese and served with marinara. Go to Urban Brick and... oh yes, Take the Cannoli The Urban Salad is the best salad ever with Sugared Pecans, Blue Cheese (Gorganzola), blueberries, and not a bit of iceberg in the batch, this is the tastiest, most inventive salad I have ever seen or tasted. For desert, the cannoli is made fresh, so the shell is crisp, the filling is creamy and the mini-chocolate chips are well presented. The coffees are made with freshly ground beans. The pizza is well-made, with the chewy crust and a good blend of very stringy cheese and sauce. Each part of lunch was very good but to have all these together in one place in central Florida is very unusual.
