I wanted to like them. I really did. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was average. The meat was tasty but cold. And I waited for 15 minutes so they had plenty of time get it warmed. It's advertised as coming with fried onions (seriously, who wouldn't want fried onions) but there were none to be found. I did enjoy the bun. There was some "chili garlic coleslaw" which was nothing more than pickled jicama with cilantro. No garlic, no chili, and, oh yeah, no actual coleslaw. I also had the pork and mozzarella eggrolls - I think these would have been quite good if they were cooked properly, but the dough was completely blackened. And I'm not kidding - the entire outside of each egg roll was completely black, so all I could taste was burnt dough. There was supposed to be jalapeno in there as well. Nada. So I spent $13.50 for bun. Good deal. I'd stick to the many other food truck options if I were you. read more

Got the Far East Coast combo with pork over rice and coleslaw. Meat is tender. Sauce is tangy and sweet. Even the coleslaw has a lot of flavor. Very large portions -- for $10 this could easily stretch into two meals. Great find, and I hope they come back to Rosslyn soon. read more

Having read the menu several times in the past I always skipped over this truck. However, when I recently got a chance to try it at a catered event, I was pleasantly surprised. The fry bread tacos were really good - I actually liked the chicken the best over the pork and brisket. All the flavors were delicious, between the coleslaw, pico and special sauce. Came together in a wonderful flurry of flavors. Super friendly folks too! I'll be back when they hit Rosslyn for lunch for sure. read more

I have been to dozens of food trucks since moving to DC two years ago, and this is hands-down the best one. I would even venture to say this is the best food I've had anywhere in DC. The native american taco is AMAZING -- they literally rolled the dough out and fried the tortilla right in front of my eyes and the ingredients are so fresh and amazing. The eggrolls are also amazing and like no others I have ever tasted. Literally everything I have gotten at this truck is great and fresh. You won't find a more eclectic, delicious food truck experience anywhere in the greater DC area. read more

I had been looking forward to this food truck so I wouldn't need to leave campus, but it showed up more than 1/2 hour late. Not good when you are a student on a schedule! When the truck arrived I queued up and ordered the banh mi, excited to try the "wasabi sesame brioche bun" garnished with smoked mayo, cilantro and jalapenos. After I received my order, I bit in and was disgusted to find a short, black hair nestled inside the meat. Despite that, I still tried to eat more of the sandwich (because I was starving). There was one jalapeno and a single strand of cilantro on my sad, sad sandwich. The meat itself was flavorful and the pickled vegetables were good, but the bun tasted stale and the pittance of garnishes was disappointing. read more

Passed up RitoLoco today to try this place out and it was a mistake. Interesting concept and menu items sound delicious but I had their fusion Banh Mi and it was pretty disappointing. Flavors didn't really work together, not enough pork on the sandwich, way to much bread (and the bread was not very good). My friend had some grilled meats and slaw and had pretty similar feelings about the overall experience. Cool idea but the food just wasn't that good unfortunately. read more

I came off the metro today in Rosslyn and was looking for a quick place to grab a bite. I was headed for the usual fare but this food truck caught my eye. This is great treat for those in Rosslyn or the Ballston area. The food was amazing and the staff was extremely friendly. It was late in the day and some of the items I wanted to try were sold out. I ended up getting the Russian Shwarma - a fusion of BBQ meats and tangy slaw. I'll have to come back again to try some of their other items on the menu. read more

Had the Alaskan fried bread and a pork Bahn mi from there food truck . Was really Good only complaint is the pork was a little dry.

Price reasonable for the quantity, but the brisket was tough and the chicken was dry.

Best BBQ food truck around. I've had the Pork sandwich and the brisket sandwich. Brisket is good, but the pork is really terrific. Excellent taste and texture. That being said, the BBQ sauce is what really makes it; simple and sweet, but incredibly tasty. Combine that with good quality meat and a light brioche bun, the sandwiches can't be beat. Sandwiches come with coleslaw, which has a kick - balances the meal out well, but I'd taste the slaw on its own before you put it in the sandwich (it comes on the side). The potato salad is nothing special, in my opinion - not worth the price of a side. People rave about the Native American taco. I haven't tried it yet but I will the next time the truck rolls around my area! read more

REVISED 8/7/2014 I lunched at Urban Bumpkin on 8/14/2014 and posted a negative Yelp review (below). A bad lunch can really ruin your afternoon and I was bummed after my visit to their truck. My bad luck was about to take a turn, however. John from Urban Bumpkin turned my frown upside down. Shortly after I posted my review, John apologized for my bad experience and explained why Urban Bumpkin fell short. Honestly, everyone has a bad day. Urban Bumpkin was super busy on the day that I visited. They simply ran out of the goods. I get that, and I think that their popularity was probably the cause. The description sounds delish, but the reality was FATTY PORK, WATERY COLE SLAW, and total FALSE ADVERTISING on the wasabi brioche bun. I ended up deeming the whole sandwich inedible and tossed it. Last time they really skimped on the sauce so the shwarma was a bit bland, but that has been the exceptional case to my experiences with them. So happy to have a new food truck in Rosslyn! Got the Native American Taco with pulled pork, bbq sauce, coleslaw, pico, and spicy mayo. First off, it was overpriced at $9. Should have been $7, or for $9 included some kind of side. The banhi mi is much larger and $1 less which doesn't make much sense. Secondly, it was very messy and supremely hard to eat. The taco is a fried pita that's essentially flat with no bend to it. It's uncuttable by plastic knife, and unfoadable like a pizza slice would be. I ended up eating with a fork and saving the "taco" shell for last when there was no food on it, making the flavor combo much less awesome, but necessary to avoid a mess. I also hated that they don't have to-go containers and just serve it to you in an open flimsy cardboard bowl. Makes transport difficult. Overall, ok. It was overpriced, messy, and not supremely filling, but it was tasty enough. I'd be willing to try again but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat again. read more

Horrible customer service! Urban Bumpkin had signed up to sell food at a charity event. I made sure they would be the only food truck at the event to make sure they made significant profit, but they never showed! I got a text from the owner, Tat, saying that they were on their way, but when I asked for their ETA an hour later, he never responded. Waited about 20 minutes to get my food early in lunch hour with only a few people ahead. After the brutal wait I was also disappointed in the food. The banh mi came out as some bbq pork on a bun with a side of daikon radish. It was very plain and the sandwich wasn't even remotely put together. Noticed this food truck in Crystal City and I'm glad I deviated from my usual District Taco routine on Thursdays. I ordered the native american taco with chicken. The bread was sweet and crispy, yet chewy. The chicken and slaw that served as the filling held the perfect heat. Definitely going to check this out again next time I see it! read more

This was the worst food truck in Ballston I have been to, and I love the food trucks there and visit them often during the work week. I'm giving one star because the cole slaw was pretty tasty. Service was bad. And the truck inside looked like chaos. Waited 10-15 minutes for sandwich with only 2 customers in front of me. The guy cooking was busting his butt, but the guy taking orders and payments I think may have been new. Granted it is a food truck, not a full service restaurant, but compared to the many other trucks that frequent Ballston that I have visited, this truck did not have their stuff together and seemed oblivious. Maybe a bad day for customer service. But the food was bad too. I ordered the chicken on a bun and it was fatty and had chewy skin on some pieces, with only a small portion of the sandwich on the edge covered with the sauce. I think the sauce was pretty tasty from the bite that actually had it. The bun was soggy and falling apart. I couldn't eat it. It was bad. I have NEVER had lunch from a food truck in Ballston I couldn't eat, but I gave up on this one. I will say the cole slaw was tasty and perfectly seasoned. But the customer service coupled with the inedible fatty chicken with chewy skin and soggy bun overshadowed the coleslaw. And the prices on menu were lower than what was charged. i had a different experience. i enjoyed their taco and got a free lemonade drink too! it's a nice change and different, but good. meat was good, taco was good. perhaps i will try another of their dishes with some sauces and see how it turns out. read more
