I love Eastern Carryout and Cafe so much. I always order the combo with Bourbon Chicken and add lo mein. There is so much food that I consistently have enough for three meals. I'm going to cut straight to it. Eastern Carryout (EC) is the best spot for a great lunch special. I moved here from another area and I couldn't find the carryout food I was familiar with until I heard, from a colleague, about EC. The customer service was on point. The lady in the front greeted me and helped me decide what to try. She was very patient with me when I was indecisive. They have many options for lunch. I have enjoyed EC a few times in the past couple of weeks and have not had one disappointment. The shrimp and broccoli, sha cha chicken, shrimp egg foo young, and the LoMein are all DELISH! But, for me, I was most impressed with the fried chicken wing/yellow rice platter. The wings were seasoned and fried perfectly. If you live in the 222... zip code, give EC a try. IMO, you won't be disappointed. The price point is great. Plus, they give you enough to share or have leftovers. BTW - You can also dine in! It's small but quaint. This place has combination platters for a good portion for the money. The egg rolls are bland and the sauce on the general tsos chicken is mild and not as tasty as it can be. This is the best restaurant in the DMV. No jokes. The food is tasty, plentiful, and affordable. The owners are friendly and will always hook you up with their best recommendations if you ask. Inside is small but cozy. There is also ample parking especially for Arlington. Do not confuse with the other Eastern Carryout that is also on Pershing. The combination fried rice was pretty good, the egg roll was average/ok, and the sesame chicken I barely ate, it was not tasty at all and I threw most out. Sometimes I just want fried rice for dinner, I liked the combination fried rice that I would actually order that again. My favorite Chinese locally is TNR but I don't always want two days worth of Chinese food because of the minimum order amount. So I would order fried rice. Based on the reviews I decided to give them a try. Lesson learned. While some reviewers rave about the food, others found it bland and tasteless. The online ordering process was easy, the prices are comparable to the quality of the food. I'd rather spend more money and get food that's edible. The shrimp egg foo young was loaded with onions, no other veggies, and the shrimp fried rice had absolutely no taste and looked like they used yellow rice. Wanted a quick delivery option for lunch and this one certainly delivered. The Szechuan wontons were a TON of wrapper/dough with just a small piece of meat inside. The wrapper was definitely tasty but would've been nice to have a little more meat. Also wasn't really crispy but then again we got it delivered. It was still pretty good though mostly because the sauce - a bit spicy and good flavor. The sesame chicken was a little different than the usual - bigger pieces of white meat but less crispy. The beef chow fun was not my favorite - not as much grilled flavor as Im used to but maybe that was also because it was less oily and greasy than the typical dish I've had. The stir fry green beans were really good - saucy and crunchy but not too salty. Overall a decent spot for quick Chinese takeout. This is one of our go to places during the week. The owners are quite nice and personable and laugh and joke with the patrons. They have a strong pool of regular customers including us. The food is consistently good. My go-to dishes include the sweet-and-sour chicken combination (which includes an egg roll) and the tofu vegetable dish. Other dishes are delicious as well. I will sometimes have the shrimp lo mein, Singapore rice noodles or wonton soup. They offer steak and cheese sandwiches and similar but I think you're better off sticking with the Americanized Chinese dishes they serve. read more

We now stop by here every Friday with our granddaughter after her class the Little Gym. The cashier/owner recognizes us now and knows our usual and gets a big smile when she sees us. The portions have always been large and we can verify that the garlic eggplant, steamed tofu with mushrooms and hunan shrimp are always delicious. The price is right too! I need broccoli in there, cant stand eggs in it and i like it spicy not sweet. I actually called the place to make sure they understood my request and the man answered the phone with my name and anticipated my concerns. Food arrived and i was nonetheless skeptical given the prices and carryout name (expectations lower after some carryout experiences in Logan circle DC) but wow I was pleasantly surprised. Piping hot moo-shoo, colorful veggies, spicy flavor and 2 cute fried chicken wings to balance out the heathy goodness. I loved the soup too which is very hard to do among most Chinese restaurants. Hot and sour soup can get pasty and sweet but this was perfect texture, broth quality and spice. I have since moved to Alexandria and I am glad i looked through my past ubereats orders tonight because i almost forgot to write a review. Eastern Carryout does an excellent job with standard Chinese American dishes -- shrimp & broccoli, pork & string beans, and egg drop soup are favorites at our house. (They also make some gluten free dishes for my wife, which she has enjoyed.) The spicy tofu is basic but comforting and the chow fun is very good. So I have to admit that I am quite picky when I order any takeout food. If it has the ability to do so, anything I order I always ask for less oil, less salt, and less sauce or as little sausage as possible. Most places I have ordered from find that this is a complete pain in the ass for them, but here at Eastern carryout, I don't know if it's an inconvenience for them but every time I order from them it's always been spot on perfect. I have never had a bad meal here and I will even take this a step further: My father used to own a Chinese takeout and I know the difference between good quality and bad quality and this is the best place within the area that you can order carryout from. I ordered delivery from here Sunday night at 10pm. The food did not arrive till 11pm. That is over an hour wait! The food was good, standard chinese food. We ordered beef and broccoli and szechuan chicken. For a grand total for $19.16 and each gave a pretty good size portion with rice. I would say the only reason i'm not giving less stars is because its not terribly expensive and the food was pretty good. I'm not sure if I can count on doing delivery here, may just be better to pick it up if you're hungry like I was. On the plus side, the delivery guy did come up to my apartment and didn't make me come down to the front desk (which I have experience with other places in the past). read more
