Went downhill big time just like Nortes in Carlsbad. No longer able to taste test anything. The tomato quinoa was horrendous. There were 10 people in line and one cashier who was young and didn't know how to multi task or read the room and call the manager up to help. One of the reasons I liked this place was to see what I was ordering and get a feel for what went well together. Most restaurants have gone back to normal and I will not patronize at those that no longer cater to customers but rather to making an extra dollar the excuse of the pandemic. These guys realized it's much cheaper to serve food they way they are now at our expense. They use covid as an excuse. Will not go back until they go back to how they used to run things. read more

Pre pandemic this was our go to place for fast, healthy, and delicious food. Unfortunately, the last few times we have gone, we have been disappointed. Last night I came in around 5:45pm, I got in line behind 3 other people and thought perfect, I can be in and out of here pretty quickly (boy was I wrong). I watched as a poor girl who sounded as if she was somewhat new at the register kept turning around to ask a young man (tall, short dark hair, glasses, and a few little arm tattoos) working there how to do this or that while she was trying to take orders. Slowly the line continued to grow and grow but I am still behind the same 3 people. The young man who was answering questions behind the the cashier was extremely busy cutting slices of cake. I even heard him say, we are going to wait until it gets extremely busy to consider opening the second register. Huh?? At this point I've been line almost twenty minutes with two people still ahead of me and as I mentioned the line is only growing bigger. I noticed a huge amount of staff on hand, could they not spare one to help this poor girl who was clearly needing it as the only cashier?? Nope, cake cutting was more important than assisting your customers and fellow staff. Thirty minutes in, I finally get my food and head home only to be disappointed again by a somewhat tasteless and luke warm meal. Good thing my husband decided to pass on Urban Plates last night or everyone there would have definitely heard an earful of frustration. read more

My wife and I truthfully have been big fans of Urban Plates since the opening but ate there recently and was astounded by the drop in food quality. Maybe they didn't want to raise prices and opted to lower the food quality instead? or maybe they replaced the existing chef, but either way, the Moroccan Chicken was inedible and the Beef and mushrooms not much better. The chicken parts were undefinable leg and thigh parts. The lettuce looks like conventional iceberg. The burgers look flat and unappealing. I don't like posting bad reviews but the food made both of us sick and we won't be returning. read more

This place gives me anxiety when it's busy. It is set up like a cafeteria line, which is cool unless it's super busy and you can't get anyone's attention to order. Atmosphere 4/5 Cool hip place, not so much seating room inside but there's outside seating. There's also heaters outside which help a little if it's cold. The layout is just a little cramped. Food 3/5 Food is okay, under seasoned for mostly all the vegetables. I got the tomato basil soup which was pretty good, and they give you a pretty big portion. There's easily seen labels for all the dietary things such as gluten free or vegan. Service 3/5 It's a cafeteria style like I said before so service is ok. If it's busy it's definitely chaotic. The Brussels sprouts were old and strong and also inedible. Mashed potatoes were thick snd tasteless so we had NO dinners at all. Have eaten there many times but cannot go back to throw money completely away and suffer consequences! Ugh read more

Came here during lunch break. I really like the cafeteria concept although the menu tends to be a bit intimidating with the walk-up different sections. Decided with the BBQ turkey meatloaf and sides of broccoli and roasted vegetables. Maybe I came on the wrong day, but they didn't have the meatloaf ready so I had to wait in for a bit. It really defeats the purpose of cafeteria dinning if I had to wait for the meatloaf to be cooked. It was bit on the dryer side, which I wouldn't recommend as a dish to get here. I was brought the wrong thing 3 times; the manger was the one helping me. I finally settled for something almost right. When I tasted the mac and cheese it was inedible. We have loved urban plates. In the past great ambiance, nice jazz to relax all diners; great portions with lovely mains and sides all for a no-fuss price. It's all changed for the worse I'm sad to say. Chimichurri steak served on kids plates (1/2 size of the regular plates) with 1/2 the amount of steak and sides...price went up from $12-13 now to $19.00. Servers are also not as friendly. Did urban plates sell to a bigger corporation? Because this is not the same UP we have loved and frequented regularly over the past 5-6 years??! read more
