My husband recently visited for dinner and had a very disappointing experience. Before I explain what happened, I want to mention that we have visited your restaurant about four times in the past two weeks because we genuinely love the food. Unfortunately, the service has consistently been lacking, and this most recent visit was unacceptable. My husband called in a to-go order ahead of time. When he arrived, it wasn't quite ready, which was completely understandable. He waited patiently and periodically checked on the status of his order. He had also paid an additional $3 to upgrade to fries, and naturally expected them to be served fresh and hot. After about 15 minutes, he continued waiting without concern. Around the 20-minute mark, he noticed his order sitting on the counter. As a restaurant manager himself, he recognized that it had been sitting there for quite some time. No one had called his name or attempted to notify him that his food was ready. When he asked a team member about it, he was told it wasn't his order. After they looked into it further, they realized it actually was his order. By that point, it had been sitting on the counter for approximately 20 minutes, meaning the food--including the fries he paid extra for--was cold. Another concern we've noticed during our visits is the level of customer service. The staff is very young, which isn't an issue in itself, but they often seem attentive only to customers who leave tips. During a previous visit, we even watched employees give a complimentary dessert to another table, while our concerns have never been acknowledged. What was most disappointing was the manager's response. My husband spoke with her to explain what had happened, but she simply apologized and made no effort to resolve the situation or make things right. The interaction came across as dismissive and unprofessional, especially from someone in a management position. Spending $18 on a meal that sat on the counter long enough to become cold is frustrating, especially when the issue could have been avoided simply by calling out his name. We are Plate Members and have been loyal customers because we truly enjoy the food. However, after this experience, we're honestly questioning whether we'll return. We hope this feedback is taken seriously, as we'd love to continue supporting your restaurant. The waiters then bring the food to you. Or, you can find a table first and order online with your table number. Utensils, extra sauces, Salt+pepper, and togo boxes are self-served at a separate counter. We usually order the Cesar wrap with crispy chicken, sub the chips with truffle fries + a side of truffle aioli sauce, and the grass fed steak with mushrooms and marbled potatoes. The chips that usually come with the chicken wrap are really salty, which is why I substitute it with the truffle fries for an extra $5. Khloe made we had a great ordering experience and was very thorough in explaining different menu options and gave me suggestions on what to order based off of my feedback. Erick gets an honorable mention for entertaining my whimsy and making sure I had extra pickles with my sandwich when I asked. The staff are very accommodating and attentive and I had a great meal. Urban Plates is my MIL's favorite place for a burger, so we went to the location in Fountain Valley at her request. I ordered a half chicken sandwich and a cup of tomato bisque. They were both yummy and I left not feeling overly full. The hamburgers that my MIL and husband ordered looked pretty good, too. It's a fine spot for a quick bite, but it's a little pricey for a counter service venue. The people who worked there were friendly and accommodating, too. We had some special requests, and they were happy to comply. What made it stand out from the typical counter service restaurant is that the food is all organic and free range, which I guess answers why it's a little pricier than most. We order from this Urban Plates location frequently, and unfortunately about 10-15% of the time there's a significant issue with our order. This time, my wife picked up our food and we were eating it less than 15 minutes later. I'll let the photo speak for itself. This isn't the first time I've received either a burger or steak from this location that was this undercooked. I would have expected the residual heat from cooking, combined with being wrapped in foil for a to-go order, to continue cooking it slightly - but the center was still cool and very underdone. To Urban Plates' credit, we contacted them and they promptly refunded my burger, which is why this is a 2-star review instead of 1 star. I appreciate that they made it right. My only advice to anyone ordering a burger to-go is to cut it in half before taking a bite. I wish I had taken my own advice. 7/2/26 Update - lowered to 1 star due to food poisoning. 7/16/26 Update - raised back to a 2 Star since they refunded the entire order. Fountain Valley, Ca. There has been a flood of marketing recently on social media promoting the burgers here. I'm always looking for an exceptional burger, so I thought I'd have a taste of what they offer here. I must say before I delve into the attributes of the burger, that the premises are pretty much spotless and the employees are really friendly and helpful. We sat inside, which was nice and cool during the heat wave. The burger was ok, not at all exceptional. The most important ingredient, the meat, was only a quarter inch thick puck about 2.5 inches or so in diameter. The bun was so large in proportion that the driving taste was bread. Because I ordered the bacon burger, the bacon served as a salty addition to the overall taste. There was a thin tomato in there as well as two pickle chips that provided moisture. The sauce helped somewhat in making the burger interesting. The promotion shows two strips of bacon hanging out an inch on each side . This is not the case, the bacon is totally enclosed within the encompassing buns. Also noted was how large the patty looks in the promotion, not so in real life though. The salty bacon requires a bit of hydration so the bottomless fountain drink (about $4) helps. The cheese appeared to be some kind of processed stuff with a consistency and tongue feel of Velvetta. In conclusion, this is not a premium burger but it is about $13, not $18 or more. I personally prefer to pay for a premium burger with a patty 3/4 of an inch or more perfectly cooked medium in spite of the thickness, and approaching 4 inches in diameter, and typically very juicy with a sirloin steak flavor. I know, they have a double here, but two patty's are not at all comparable to a thick juicy burger patty. Yes I know where to find these rarities. The fries here are great! There are other intriguing menu items here that may be outstanding, but the burger misses the mark. read more
