My personal fav is steak salad. I have been here at least 20 times and have gone out of my way to come here I like it so much. I highly recommend and service staff and management are very attentive.

It's been so long since my last and first visit to Urban plates they've changed their whole ordering system as well as layout! It is no longer a cafeteria style assembly line of choosing what looks good but a regular extensive menu with a combination of entrees and burgers, salads.. and tons of alluring desserts with calorie counts on EVERYTHING just to make your life a little more "maths". I love and hate it because it does distract me in what I choose to order but also very good to know, everything is portioned out and has their standards. Which means consistency and regularity. The ambience is casual but as a vegetarian your buffet lies in the side dishes. Or the tofu plate plus sides. None of which were better than anything else I've had around here with similar price point and caloric convenience. Broccolini was overcooked and watery. The truffle fries were good but salty. Definitely needed the ketchup.

There are plenty of parking spaces. You order first and then dine in. They have plenty of seating both inside and outside. I ordered the Chimichurri Grass Fed Steak with 2 sides: Sesame Broccolini and Basmati Rice. The Sesame Broccolini was okay, not my favorite 'cause it was hard to eat (tough to bite down). The Basmati Rice and Steak was super good though! I thought I had I written a review about this place when I was coming regularly 8-10 years ago, but apparently I didn't. It's just weird because there was a time I was coming at least once a month despite living 30-40 miles from this location. Urban Plates has always been good at providing more upscale meals at a fair price and with a modicum of wait. It's almost cafeteria-style, with the food being prepared beforehand, except now they put together your tray and bring it to your table instead of scooping it out in front of you as work your way down the line like it used to be. The change didn't even make a difference. The barramundi was still excellent and of good size. That seafood chowder I wish was an option at every restaurant because I love chowders, stews, and chilis as sides as opposed to most places that only offer soup as an appetizer. And my mashed potatoes with gravy was great. The service was still good. I think the counter jockey had my order and total up in less than five seconds and I was fine paying in less than twenty. That's efficiency especially when you don't waste time trying to upsell the customer on every knick or knack on the menu. I appreciate that. The space and ambience is still great in there. I still like it feels like you can breathe for a second in there without fear of being kicked out in the name of turnover. In summary, this place still rocks and I should've reviewed it sooner to let folks know.

Friendly service. Wide variety and foods for every diet. I eat gluten free and got the surf and turf. The shrimp was just okay. The steak was pretty good. Brussels sprouts I wouldn't order again. Mashed potatoes with gravy were tasty. My kids both got chicken tenders plates- one of them is the kid size and you can see they're about the same size so just get all your kids kids meals. They both liked the chicken and fries and the Mac and cheese was good too. My mom got the barramundi sea bass and it was pretty good but the toast and asparagus were mediocre. She also got the hummingbird cake and found it to be too nutty.

Love love this design compared to the other locations We asked the staff to turn down the music a bit because we can't hear our speakers and they did so thankful for that. Urban Plates in Irvine really exceeded expectations. For being a chain, this location feels anything but cookie-cutter--super clean, thoughtfully designed, and just a great overall vibe. It's located in a plaza, so parking was easy. I went with the grilled portobello sandwich and added a little of their house hot sauce--game changer! It gave it just the right kick without overpowering the flavors. The sandwich was hearty, fresh, and full of texture. We also ordered the rib plate, which was generous and tender. Everything we tried felt well-balanced and fresh, and the menu leans healthy without being boring. There's a great variety of options here, especially if you're vegetarian or trying to eat cleaner. Whether you're in the mood for a protein-packed plate or something plant-based, you'll find something solid. The service was quick and efficient (we didn't wait long at all), and the ambiance was a nice surprise--both indoor and outdoor seating looked recently updated, with modern, stylish decor and a comfortable layout. Always a great place to go for variety of healthy food choices. You get your choice of protein and sides and there are a lot of options! Even fried chicken/chicken tenders. Service is quick and prompt (you order at the register, they give you a number, and they bring it to your table). Food tastes fresh and well seasoned. They also have a condiment bar at the corner for ketchup, salt, pepper, and some hot sauces. A must try!

The great thing about Urban Plates is that they offer veggies in a quick, no frills way. If you eat fast food, it can be a challenge to find vegetables that aren't fried in some way. Urban Plates quietly and efficiently fills that hole. This visit, I ended up getting tempted by the new mushroom offerings so I didn't get any broccolini or Brussels sprouts as I usually would but I always enjoy the beets salad every time. Great spot for meeting friends here for catching up as the staff are especially chill about customers hanging out and chatting. Very easy to get up and order more food if you decide you want another drink or dessert.

Pros: I do like how you can order on your phone and they'll bring it out to your table with everything. I thought the convenience is a huge plus. Also, their menu is pretty large so it is suitable for multiple dietary restrictions. Cons: the flavors were just okay for the price. I believe my meal was over $20 and the Brussel sprouts were a miss for me. Overall, there were some great items like the friends and the burger, and it is a great place to catch up with friends, but it isn't a spot I'd regularly would go to/suggest. However, if my friends want to go, I wouldn't be opposed to trying again. The place can get pretty loud but dies down quickly. It seems that people just eat and leave, so not much socializing going on. Staff is very nice and amazing!

We go to the Urban Plates at Playa Vista. We love the fresh food and the fast service. We were fortunate to be helped by Jorge. We have seen him serve other people and were always impressed with his attentive service to the customers. This week we were fortunate to be served by Jorge and he took great care of us. He was attentive to us and all customers. I give Urban Plates 5 stars due to Jorge's attention. We love the food, I love their salads, drinks, tomato soup and all their dishes such as the Moroccan chicken Braise, Beets and avocado plant based bowl, their Ahi Tuna Nicoise is delicious and their Barramundi is delish! Overall, we always look forward to eating here. Their plate pass is a really excellent deal and recommend it highly! Just writing about Urban Plates has made me hungry for a delicious dinner. It's healthy, good recipes (not overly salty, not too rich), convenient parking. But expensive. With 20% discount less $5, it was $75 for four people. Three stars. Margaux took care of us, took our pictures, visited our table a few times. +1 stars. Other notes: * we would have preferred self-serve soda station so that we wouldn't have to queue up. Else, expected servers to offer to refill drinks because they asked for tips at the pay. 3% surcharge should have been part of the tips section (don't offer 5,10,15, offer 2,7,12). Kenton was super helpful with explaining the different new seasonal sides and refresher drinks they offer. The food was really great and it tastes amazing. I had the chicken braise, the maple butternut squash with toasted coconut glaze and the pineapple lime refresher. Totally a 10 out of 10 will come again for the amazing service and the staff were very on top of touching base with each of the guest. Loved the music in the restaurant as well. read more

Used to be a favorite place. UP is a terrific concept. There seems to be a number of changes since covid. Ordering is now at the cashier. Food quality for my meal is diminished : my steak was a bit chewy, the mashed potatoes tasted of being pre-processed ( I'm originally from Idaho), the chimchurri was flat and over cooked, and the broccolini was cool but slightly overcooked as the stems were yellowish. Not as bright and fresh as when newly opened. read more

This was my first time trying Urban Plates and I absolutely loved it!! Yuri helped me at the register and she was very friendly! I didn't have my glasses and had a hard time reading the drink names, so she kindly listed my options to me without me even having a chance to ask. She was very sweet. Great restaurant! Whether you're looking for something healthy or just satisfying, this is the place! They have so many options from salads, to plates of all sorts! This type of food makes you go home feeling good about yourself. You know you took care of yourself by eating healthy, but still getting filled! Their meats, salads, and sides are all very high quality! I have been numerous times and they never fail! I usually get a steak plate with mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad! It's my favorite! If you're more adventurous/healthy than I try to be, you'll definitely love their specialty salads! This location has always kept their inside, patio, and bathrooms very clean! I love this location, it's right by my work and whenever I order ahead my food is ready waiting for me the minute I walk in the door. I love Urban Plates. This location has great service . I had lunch the other day. It wasn't busy. I was greeted by Lorraine. Who was simply delightful. She has a very friendly personality. She gave me 4 star treatment. The level of customer service she provided makes me want to come back to this specific location regularly . Despite it being out of the way. The food was good too but this review is more about the great customer service. Which seems to be rare these day. read more

I have been coming here for years. I used to work nearby and would come here at least twice a week for some quick and healthy (or healthier) lunch. FOOD // Entree: MEDIUM RARE STEAK Soooooo good. It is flavored to perfection and they give you a good amount! I love that it is blackened a bit for that extra texture. Sides: MASHED POTATOES I get these almost every time. The mashed potatoes are soft, creamy, and flavorful. I love getting the gravy as well because it is obviously freshly made and not overly saturated with salt. Sides: BROCCOLINI These are probably my second favorite sides. I try to get a bit of my steak, a piece of broccolini, and drop them in my mashed potatoes and gravy for the perfect bite. Don't judge me. Sides: MAC & CHEESE It's pretty good here but nothing overly special. I don't get this side too much because I feel guilty for coming here and then eating unheathily haha Sides: ROASTED POTATOES Eh, these are just okay. They're roasted a good amount but I wish they were a little more flavorful or seasoned. AMBIANCE // There are always people in here but it is never so crowded that you cannot find seating. It can get crowded during lunchtime so just be aware. The noise level is pretty low to medium. The tables inside have decent space between them which is nice. SERVICE // Everyone is really great in here. As you are in line, someone usually comes up and asks if you have been here before and is open to answering any questions you may have. OVERALL // 4.5 stars I am always down to come here! Prices are reasonable and food is always fresh and delicious. read more

It's ok. Menu has lots of variety to choose from, salads, burgers, desserts, and sandwiches. Alcohol also sold here so kind of a full service eating place. The seating isn't comfortable. Parking is a pain. read more

Pretty solid food! You can't go wrong with any of their options. I personally like the tuna or the chicken but the steak has always been a good option too. I really enjoy all their sides and I really appreciate the restaurant's overall appeal towards healthiness. I would just prefer if they were full serviced or if they employees were a bit more attentive when asking for additional requests. read more

It was a very thoughtful touch! We started by ordering a Summer Barrel Aged Cocktail to drink. It reminded me of an Old Fashioned. It was good! I personally tend to like sweeter drinks a bit more, but I was in the mood for something different from my usual and this sounded like an interesting flavor combination, so I was happy with my choice. Next we ordered short rib croquettes as a starter, and the seafood risotto and the branzino as the mains. The food didn't take very long to come out. The short rib croquettes were amazing! It definitely left you wanting more. I honestly would have ordered that as a main, it was that good. The seafood risotto was so rich and flavorful. It had a creamy, buttery texture with a mild seafood flavor but not overpowering. It was a beautiful saffron color too. The branzino was also excellent. In short, we loved all the food and we left feeling very full with even a bit of food leftover. We skipped dessert since we were just too full. Overall, everything about this place was great - good service, great food, and a nice ambiance. The parking situation is also super easy since there's a large garage right next to it and they validate. It seems to be in a business park so the garage was pretty empty by 6pm on a Friday.

The new GM has quite the Napolean Complex..in both attitude and stature. Oak barrels used for aging whiskey are set around and the general vibe was very attractive. LOCATION/PARKING - The restaurant sits right on the corner and shares a parking structure with Monaco, The Trough, and Izakaya Osen. Valet parking is available, and the restaurant validates for 90 minutes. CUSTOMER SERVICE - The service seems to depend heavily on who you get. While the staff was generally friendly, they weren't particularly attentive, and we constantly had to ask for refills. To be fair, assigning just one server to a party of 14 is a tough ask, this venue is likely better suited for smaller groups. VERDICT - Overall, the menu feels a bit overpriced for the quality of the food. If my team decides to host another lunch here, I wouldn't object to returning.

Restaurants are part of the hospitality industry, so when they have bad hospitality, it ruins the experience.

All in all, I think this is one of the best places in Irvine to have a pint of beer and a good meal.

Urban plates. The line looks intimidating and there's a lot of people waiting to get their all organic foods but don't be shy! GET IN LINE! The wait really isn't that long as you think because people are just getting their food and sitting down somewhere in the restaurant. There is plenty of seating available and they have this really fancy fire bar table outside that caught my eye the last time I went but unfortunately there was no seating and it made me sad.. I love fire and anything to do with it and what's better than the nice flicker of red, orange, and blue dancing in front of you while you eat your steak sandwich? So as you walk inside you'll notice it's like a cafeteria and there's sections that serve different parts of the menu! It's been ages since I've last bough food at a cafeteria but you can rest assured the food is way better here than your average public school cafeteria's mystery chicken nuggets and cardboard pizza. I love the salad bar and absolutely adore it. They have so any greens on display and the salad maker (chef? For a lack of better words) makes your salad in front of you! You can customize your salads and take out things you don't want if your picky which is great. The Asian chicken salad and the Kale salad were great. I really liked it because it was fresh and tasted good too. Moving down towards the meat line there's a pretty big selection of meats and they cut your portion per order (not precut) and they have a grill behind them that's constantly banging out refills. I really like brussels sprouts and they have been cooked with bacon! Really good and has a nice depth of flavor to it. I'm not crazy about their prices because $10 for a plate full more of veggies, than meat is not my idea of a well rounded meal. Maybe it's because I eat so much meat, but they sure seemed to have skimped on their steak. Other then those, there isn't anything I can complain about. Its self seating, and there are plenty of seats in the patio area which is perfect for when the weather is nice with sunshine. The special thing about this place is that they actually serve a variety of wines that you can get before paying at the cash register. They have complimentary self serve water by the dessert, to-go a la carte area. They even offer samples of some of the menu items, so please don't forget to ask the friendly staff there, while you're in line for you food. The salads are huge portions. I saw several people in the salad line getting heaps, literally heaps of salad and what it seemingly looked like, large portions of meat. The flavor of the meat was pretty good I must admit. It's just that the portion that was served was way less than my friend's chicken. The chicken by the way, it excellent. I was in line for lunch, waiting for the steak to finish grilling (as my mouth was watering) and asked for a sample of their free range, herbed and seasoned chicken. Omg, it as so moist and the morsels just seemed to melt in my mouth. The flavor was well balanced between the spices and the grill flavor. My sister provided the recommendation to come here. I've been on a diet and looked like this place had some healthy options. Urban Plates is located in a busy shopping center, but there is lots of parking, even on the weekend. First time ever coming here and there was a bit of confusion regarding how to properly order. First off, the line was somewhat confusing as nobody is there to tell you that you can just skip the stations you're not looking to order from. There was a little mix up with the order my dad and sister placed because they wanted an albacore sandwich, but since they went to the "plates"section, they just got served albacore without the sandwich and accouterments. Staff helped and gave them what they wanted. I ended up going with the grass fed chimichurri steak with a side of brocollini and carrots. The portion of meat was a little disappointing (looking at yelp photos I believe I got less than those servings), but they served ample amount of veggies. Steak is also quite rare... Not my favorite. I wouldn't say this place is inexpensive. I think thats subjective because for my $14 plate (which i know was steak), there was very little steak. It was mainly veggie. I did like the idea of this place and the rustic modern twist to casual dining. Despite not being an experience i was over the moon about, I thought It was above decent. I was curious to try the green juices so that'll be on my list for next time. read more

I would give them zero stars if I could. Several of my friends and coworkers order lunch online for either delivery or pickup from this location and on many occasions our orders have been incorrect. Today was the second time my salad came with no dressing, even though I specifically ask for my salad dressing tossed. My coworker asked for salmon instead of tuna and still got tuna and missing potatoes. Another coworker was missing a side of gravy and another's food was cold. I usually let these things slide and I'm very patient and understanding, but it's happened one too many times. If I'm paying almost $16 for a salad, I'd at least expect dressing on the side, not missing altogether! What really ticked me off was that I called to speak to their manager after eating my dry salad and allowing their busy lunchtime to pass. Not only was I placed on hold for 8 minutes, but they asked to take my information for a call back and I never received a call back! Never eating here again or recommending to anyone based on our multiple experiences. read more

I had a wonderful dine-in experience at Urban Plates and everything from the food to the service was excellent. I ordered the salmon entrée and it was cooked Medium to my taste with a flavorful, tender, and well-seasoned honey mustard sauce on the side. The mashed potatoes were creamy and comforting, and the carrots and beets paired beautifully with the Brussels sprouts topped with a delicious balsamic glaze. I also added steamed asparagus, which was fresh and cooked just right. On the side, I had a house salad with dressing on the side, which was crisp and well-prepared. Service really stood out during this visit. Bryan and Camilo at the register were friendly, efficient, and welcoming, making the ordering process smooth. Second time here in a very long time I haven't gone back due to a bad experience but my friend insisted we went since we were in the area. I just wanted to share my day at Urban Plates. First of all I love that they have options but mostly I love the customer service, today I received great customer service from Wendy. She was so nice and helpful and knowledgeable. What a nice cashier she got me in and out of there asap. I can't say that for my first experience. I liked my food the steak is so good but the dessert is so yummy. Next time I come I will def sit outside and enjoy some fresh air and again thank you wendy for answering all my questions I had. After having a bad day my friend and I needed a smile. I suggest you try the hummingbird cake oh and parking can be tricky depending what time you go so watch out. P.S. if you are not that hungry split the food sometimes it can be a little $$$$ read more

I've been to better Locations. I am a frequent consumer of Urban Plates and usually I'm relatively satisfied with the food here but something is really different about this location. My favorite dish here is the braised beef and mushroom bowl with mash and I usually love it here (minus the horrendous "rustic" bread that's just awful throughout all locations , don't recommend ) The bowl I got was a delivery and the food was nice and hot which was great, however my beef was all gristle and fat and half inedible. Unfortunately since I delivery there was no way to get my money back however the rest of my friends who ordered food all got good quality and said it was tasty, I'm not sure if beef is just out of season here or what but I was not sold. Maybe ill give it another shot some day but I'm not itching to go back read more

This place is setup like a "marketplace" style food court. I would say its kind of like Gelson's food court. Their motto is "farm to plate without breaking the bank" I don't know about breaking the bank part. Any who, food there was pretty good. I went there for lunch on Wednesday and ordred a cola, chicken sandwich with a side of pesto pasta salad. The chicken sandwich was on a ciabatta roll, aoli spread, and roasted tomatoes. The sammie also came along with a handful of potato chips. The ciabatta roll was soft with a slight crunch. The chicken was tender n seasoned well. I did not care for the pesto pasta salad, it was under season and that pesto did not bring enough basil, garlic, and salt to the table. With that said I am still optimistic about this place and can't wait to try more stuff off their menu. read more

I would like to compliment Maria came in 8/18/25 at 7:20pm. She greeted my family and I immediately but what made my experience elevate was the fact that she recognized us as we have been coming here very often. That definitely is rare when repeating back my order right before paying she suggested us to join the plate pass and told us we would be saving a lot of money especially since he have several add ons she gave us a comparison example of how much we would save and guided us how to sign up. We are now officially plate pass members all due to her hospitality and acknowledgment of my family being here frequently. Thank you Maria for making us feel welcomed and most of all for your hospitality but over all we keep coming here because food is consistent and always fresh and fast. I had such a great experience here! The salads were incredibly fresh, crisp, and full of flavor, and the soups were warm, comforting, and perfectly seasoned. You can really tell they use quality ingredients and care about what they're serving. What made the visit even better was the amazing customer service. The cashiers, Fatima and Lesli, were so kind and helpful from the moment I walked in. Fatima took the time to answer my questions, offered samples of the replenished drinks so I could decide what I liked. That extra attention made me feel genuinely welcomed and appreciated as a customer. Between the delicious food and the outstanding service, I'll definitely be coming back. Really like this place. There have 5 diff lines. I have been here at least 7 times. I had the braised beef. I normally ordered it with brown rice. Sometime it is a little dry probably because the rice has been sitting out. I tried it with the mash potato, wow. glad I did. The gravy of the beef goes so well with the mash potato. Now when I feel like eating beef stew this my place to go. I tried their cheese cake. So creamy. They have quite of dessert display. All looks very good. I will definitely come back all the time. I think the seating arrangement is great. People should be holding seats. The cycle of the place goes by very quickly. People do need to have courtesy for other actually waited in line and ordered. Would have given them a five but the one thing they lack is efficiency in their assembly line servicing. They just don't move their lines as quickly and as smoothly as say a Tender Greens or a Lemonade and sometimes you feel like there is a clog for something that should be quick. With that being said the food is great here. I'd say they are a cross between Lemonade in terms of sides and almost identical to Tender Greens in terms of categories of dishes. The portions are also great and one cool thing is if you want to replace one of your sides with a braise you can do so with a small upgrade for a dollar and some change. My favorite side is the mac and cheese and I am a big fan of their turkey meat loaf. The sugar cane sodas here are also very refreshing. read more

Where do I even start with Urban Plates. This place is one of me and my boyfriends favorite restaurants in San Diego as everything about this place is outstanding. Their menu is wonderfully curated and tastes delicious without me having to break the bank. Furthermore, their plates are pretty much all under $20 but still remaining plentiful and healthy. Then for dessert they have a wonderful menu with a delicious mango and banana cream pie. But it doesn't stop there, every encounter I have had with the staff has been so sweet and helpful, especially their sous chef Mathew who never fails to make my friends and I crack up. Urban Plates is publicly announcing they are adding a 3% surcharge because of what they are saying is California mandated labor costs. Only they're not being impacted by these new costs. "Urban Plates is not impacted by the California minimum wage increase as it does not meet the requirements. They would need 60 locations and only have 19 according to their own website." The people that own this company are rich people, and rich people don't give two craps about any of us. They want us to eat from the troughs they give us, while at the same time making sure they don't have to pay a penny in taxes, assuring that the parts of society that the middle class depend on don't function. I have already said I LOVE this place but I have to tell you after tonight I LOVE it even more. I didn't want to go out to dinner but I didn't want to cook at home. So for the first time I tried their call in and order service. It was ready to go on time and hot and fresh still when I got it home. The cashier there was so nice and friendly as we were talking when I picked up the food. I said to her, "Oh dang I forgot to order an almond cookie (which is my favorite)" before I could have her add one, the manager who had overheard brought me one, on the house.
