My husband and I came into urban plates today after doing some shopping on lake and we're really impressed by the selections here! I have lived in Pasadena for years and have always wanted to stop by and I was so glad I finally did today. Stephanie helped us out since it was our first time there and she was so patient and amazing. I have worked customer service in the food service industry for years so I know how to recognize good service and I really felt like she went above and beyond to accommodate us and make personal recommendations on the food. She suggested the blackened salmon and it was so good. She checked up on us after just to make sure that we really enjoyed our experience. We will definitely be coming back next time we're around! We have been to the Pasadena Urban Plates several times in the last couple of months, and have had the same problem, i.e., the food is lukewarm, at best. We have ordered entrees at approximately $20/plate, and they are always barely warm. This price point is high for food that is nearly cold. Additionally, the Brussel sprouts appear to be warmed in a microwave and do not appear to be grilled or roasted; as a result, a side dish, that has the potential to be spectacular, is barely ok to eat. We love roasted/grilled vegetables, but these vegetables are not appetizing. We are sorry for this experience, as we live close by, like the menu and location on Lake. Everything was so good, yummy, and fresh! Could have used a little more salt for my palette but once I added a dash, those flavors and spices came through like crazy! First time customer. Will not return. Customer service was slow to stand and order your food, not sure if the lunch time rush was too much for them or what. Ordered steak, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. The food was ok but the steak was chewy. I guess you get what you pay for. I ordered to go but sat in the dining area while I waited for my order to be ready. The first chair I attempted to sit in along the counter with a window view and it was full of crumbs. Second time coming here with family for quick bite to eat, absolutely love this place so much. They are having a seasonal menu right now for summer, the ribs are 10/10 recommend. The blackened salmon was great, would want it cooked a bit better and the Mac n cheese was phenomenal! The service here is so quick and fast and everyone is so kind and helpful and so so clean! Decided to give Urban Plates after so many good reviews on Yelp. The chicken club was very good, the chicken was thick and very moist, well flavored. Good bread and overall an excellent club sandwich. The mixed beet salad was also great. Good portion sizes, both item was enough for two people. Welp, it has been four years since my initial review and I have to tell ya guys, I have been a regular patron since 2021. I have to get my fix at least twice a month (once in a while I'll sneak in a 3rd visit in a month). I even signed up for the Plate Pass Membership, which gives me 20% off my total bill. Cost is $5.00 a month, but it's worth it for me, due to how often I go What is my favorite dish you wonder? It's the Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad w/their buttermilk dill dressing, one of the best cobb salads I've had at a restaurant. My friend won't eat a salad anywhere but here either. Oh yeah, and their hamburgers are on point, so tasty, juicy and it comes with French fries for just $12.00, or you can get a double burger for a buck more. You can't find a combo that is so delicious for less anywhere in town. I like that they occasionally change their "specialty dishes" menu, the only downside is that when they have added something delicious, like their braised short rib with a side of mashed potatoes & gravy, it won't be on the menu 3 months down the line; but it's okay because they always put something delicious to replace it. On my last visit, I had the blackened salmon, which was cooked very well; and I got to choose what two sides I wanted. They have a huge list of delicious sides, such as: an entrée size Cesar salad, cauliflower, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, mac & cheese, and the list goes on and on for you to pick when you order their (chimichurri) grass fed steak, sea bass, sear ahi tuna, chicken tenders . . . you get the drift, right? Dessert: My first choice is their Hummingbird Cake, 2nd runner up is their Cowgirl Cookie and 3rd Chocolate Chip Cookie. Parking lot is right around the corner and they validate for an hour and a half. Best waiter: Hands DOWN is Javier. He will bring you whatever you need. He's very polite, soft voiced & just a sweet person in general. He's been there for all the years I've been coming here, so it's nice to see his welcoming smiling, familiar face when I walk in. Urban Plates has become our go-to for quick & easy eats over the years. Hubby likes their braises, I'm still a fan of their Chimichurri Steak. Though on today's visit visit the meat was cooked on one side and pretty rare on the other still =/ I do enjoy their seasonal sides and just saw today that they have Thanksgiving meals and are even open on Thanksgiving! Will definitely keep this in mind for next year! Their "cowgirl" cookie is pretty good too - it's like an oatmeal raisin cookie with a little "extra" as our cashier Abraham described it lol, it has coconut shavings, cranberries & sunflower seeds. I liked how chewy it is & hubby happily demolished it =P Also enjoyed their new seasonal Seafood Chowder. I do wish they would bring back the Cod and the Lamb Braise, but I understand their menu is always changing seasonally. Parking is either street parking ($1/hr, check for limits) or you can park in the lots nearby (Shopper's Lane or behind Granville - 90 mins. free or by the Shops on Lake - Macy's, etc.). Restrooms are clean. Everything here is self-serve (water, condiments, etc.), but they will bring out your food & drinks after you order based on the # sign you have on your table. Absolutely love this place! We always grab to go orders for work and everything is ALWAYS literally perfect. We never have had anything missing. The perfect amount of straws & utensils and most importantly every thing is always fresh and perfectly cooked!! On top of that I can tell my coworkers are always in such good moods for the remainder of our shift after we eat there. The whole team and management deserve rasies!! All the vegetables were excellent in flavor and texture but the beet salad is my all time favorite side dish! I always get this whenever I come to Urban Plates.
