Definitely recommend if you're too hungry to wait an hour or more for Granville. For the type of restaurant this is, it is consistently impressive. The quality of food is quite good (though I wish the gravy was dark), the cost is fairly reasonable for the chef inspired artisan food, and the staff stays on top of things at all times. Gave this place a try after seeing they had curbside pickup and was impressed. Ordering online (via their website) and the pickup was quick and easy. The only thing that wasn't clear was that all plates apparently come with their rustic grilled bread. I ended up buying an extra because I didn't realize it was already included but the bread was great and I was happy I had the extra piece. All you have to do is pull up to the front of the restaurant, call them and let them know you're there and they'll bring it out to you. I arrived about 5 minutes before the scheduled pickup and my order was ready for pickup. Everything was fresh and tasty. The chimichurri steak plate was delicious. The steak was cooked exactly as I had requested. The roasted potatoes had just the right amount of seasoning and were perfectly cooked. My least favorite part of the meal was probably the chimichurri sauce which I thought should have been blended to get a better consistency to dip or pour over the steak. My mom loved the salmon as well as her two sides, the brussels sprouts and the asparagus. Her least favorite part of her meal was also the sauce but luckily, it came on the side. The meals are a bit pricey (fairly so) in the $15-20 range but I did notice that they also have a selection of $10 plates with some of their staples item. I thought this was a really cool way to make their food more affordable. All in all, I'll definitely be back! read more

I used to love this place when they first opened a few years back. I feel that the quality has gone down recently. We ordered the braised beef and there were only a few pieces of meat in the entree. It was mostly just gravy. We also ordered a chocolate chunk cookie and I thought it tasted funny. Upon inspecting the package, the expiration date was three days ago. It's conveniently located near where I live, so I may give them another shot, but it might be a while. read more

Urban Plates is one of my favorite restaurants to come for healthy and delicious food. I purchased their plate pass, because it's such a great deal and you get any meal - salmon, steak, chicken plate for just $11. I tried pretty much everything on the menu, but always come back for Cobb salad with tuna substitution and their new Sea bass plate is the bomb. Food aside, what I really loove about Urban Plates is their outstanding customer service. Javier and Laurence are always there to greet you and make sure you are satisfied. 10 out of 10 for me! This review is long overdo. Urban Plates it is one of our Go Tos and we are so picky. It is fresh, the ambiance on the patio is serene, and service is on point. I mean what more could you ask for? We usually get the Ahi Nicoise Salad and a plate of some kind -- (My only request is they bring back the grilled white fish they used to have on the menu - I miss that one) Steak, or Salmon. We probably come here between 3-7X a month and have never had a meal we did not love. Javier and David helped us out yesterday with amazing service. My partner and I left so satisfied! I've been a plate pass member at Urban Plates for a few years. Food is good for a healthy choice. Javier is alwyas good to me and very hospitable. The other day I got the chicken and it was a bit dry. I stop by the next day to let them know about the food. I spoke with Steph manager on duty. Without prompting she aplologized and offered me a replacement lunch or a gift card. I appreciated the gesture especially when I was not looking for anything. After a jog around the Rose Bowl. I ended up here. The place is clean and has a modern look. On this day I ordered the cage free chicken with quinoa rice and a salad. The chicken was soft and delicious as so was the rice. They have patio seating. Employees come around to check up on you and ask if everything is ok. I'll be going back next time I'm in the area. Walk in grab a tray and wait in line, as you walk down the line you get to pick and choose exactly what you want on your plate, they do have a menu right above. Starting from options of salads, working your way to the protein, then some veggies, and tons of sides. As you continue down the line you have more options like desserts, and drinks (Yes Alcohol as well). The food is delicious and everything is made fresh and kept warm while it sits. This place is located right off Lake Ave in the heart of Pasadena. There is tons of street and structure parking all around. It's does have amazing indoor and outs door seating, if you decide to sit outdoors on a evening/night they have this beautiful fire wall that over looks the main street while you dine. read more

MOROCCAN CHICKEN BRAISE Food: * The CHICKEN was tender and plentiful pieces, but the sauce was rather bland for a Moroccan dish. Menu says SQUASH in the sauce, but there were only a few smallish pieces. I never salt restaurant food, but I had to for this dish to bump up the flavor. Disappointing. * POLENTA. The menu on the wall didn't say anything about choice of sides, but at checkout I was asked if I wanted polenta, mashed potatoes or rice. I chose the polenta. The polenta was very smooth and creamy. The best thing about the entire meal was the tomato reduction GARNISH on top of the polenta. Extremely flavorful! * Slice of RUSTIC BREAD was way over-toasted to the point of burning some of it and it tasted of CHAR, not toast. Everyone else at my table had bread that was lightly burnt the same, and some left it half eaten. This plain toast is not what is pictured online, which looks seasoned with herbs. The meal wasn't bad, but I would not order this dish again as overall it was drab and also only warm, not hot. I would have liked to order the steak, but based on reviews that said it was all overcooked, unlike the medium rare photos on the web. Based on my table mate's experience, hers was also overcooked and dry, and she took it home to fix it. Service: What service? You get in line and order at the counter, and someone brings it to your table. You even pick up your own utensils and glass of water. Speaking of water, they serve in a plastic cup, so not very eco-friendly. They automatically added 3% on for the employees. There are several signs that say this, so it isn't a surprise, but should be an option not a prerequisite. There are tip options displayed on the credit card machine in case you want to add more. Ambiance: Open warehouse. Advice against going at popular dining times as the noise is VERY, VERY LOUD! I couldn't hear someone sitting across from me. Noise from guests plus noise from the clanking of serving utensils at the open kitchen area. Toward the end of lunch hour it became a little quieter, but not a pleasant way to enjoy a meal. CONCLUSION -- I wouldn't choose to dine here again unless my friends chose this restaurant and I was out-voted. Meal was nothing to write home about, and ambiance horrible. read more
