Came for brunch and ordered a mocha latte and the get toasty board. loved having a variety of toasts to try instead of just one dish. It comes with a cream cheese & berry, avocado toast, and caprese. I wish the caprese would've had basil / tomato on it, as that's what typically is done, however the balsamic drizzle was yummy. We walked by in the afternoon and it definitely has a hip and trendy vibe. The outdoor seating is all at fire pit tables. Good looking drinks and people. We booked and came back for dinner. The problem with fire pit tables is that they are too low to scoot into and the patio is too crowded to push back. We looked at moving inside, but it was too loud for us - great music - just too loud. That's on us. Food - it took us 30 minutes to order and then another 60 to get our food. The empanadas were filled unevenly, the crust on some were chewy and the plastic knives could not cut them into sharing portions. The Mac and cheese was good! The gyro was all lettuce and tomato on an old pita. It would break when you tried to stuff it all in. The shrimp civiche- they brought a fish version first - which we rejected. Then they brought shrimp which looked and tasted as if they came from a can. The drink were great - and the fire pit tables were for making s'mores for desert. I went on a Sunday and had made a reservation for 1p.m. My group of 3 wasn't sat until 1:42. While waiting I observed many waitresses and waiters vaping and standing by the bar talking and laughing. I think this establishment is in need of a manager on the floor or maybe there wasn't one today but there's no structure. After I had reminded the hostess of how long we were waiting she immediately took us to our table I think she forgot about my party completely. After being sat my waiter did not come to our table for about 15 minutes and when he finally did, I had asked if he was our waiter and he said unfortunately with a smile I believe he was trying to be funny but it was not well received after waiting an hour to eat. The food came quickly but it wasn't anything spectacular just your basic breakfast staples EXCEPT for the avocado toast and berries toast which were exceptional. The overall experience is social media worthy I had many aesthetically pleasing pictures but the food was lack luster and the service was terrible. I love Urban Roast and had a great time there!! I went in one late afternoon to do some work. I got a hot cinnamon latte, which was delicious. I have to go back sometime when it's not afternoon to do their coffee flights, which look absolutely amazing. I love all the fall flavors and specialty coffee options and can't wait to try them. I also ordered the crab dip, which was so good. My friend got the spinach and artichoke dip, which is now on my list for next time. Finally, I ended my work session with a white hot chocolate. I will be dreaming about that drink until I have it again. Also, the wait staff is great. I never felt rushed to leave or like they didn't want me there. It's a great spot to do some work or study. I visited Urban Roast on Friday night for cocktails with a fireside table. The ambiance is great, and unlike other reviewers we were seated promptly and had mostly good service. That said, you should be prepared to spend more than average. We ordered a premium cheese and charcuterie board - while the presentation was lovely it was mainly salami and pepperoni with a few tiny pieces of cheese. The drinks were good, but my friend was charged full price for two mocktails, which was frustrating because there were no alcohol-free options other than asking for a drink without alcohol. What killed me the most was a $55 service fee, in addition to tip, since we had over 6 people. Between tax, tip, and the service fee, we paid an additional almost $150 on top of already pricey drinks. I understand it's hard for restaurants right now, but so is life for everyone these days and I haven't yet encountered a service fee that high at restaurant that isn't like, a club without bottle service. Given that, I'm not sure I would ever be back for a girls night when there are more reasonable options nearby. read more

Unsure of its ultimate direction, flat murals of European alleys are juxtaposed with verdant plastic greenery and neon LED lights. The menu, modest in variety, is tailored to the diner who thinks themselves to be of some status but lacks the resources and taste to properly indulge themselves in vanity. It's inclusion of $160 caviar platters has this particular patron in mind. The $27 cheese platter, featuring Club brand crackers and what appears to be the Safeway deli selection of the day leaves one... wanting. The same can be said of the $32 frozen crab cakes (hardly a "cake") and $23 "spicy" (it's just buffalo flavored) crab dip. Perhaps the aim of Urban Roasts' plastic tables, IKEA budget plates, and $18 espresso martinis is to force us to contemplate our own transience, which ultimately what this establishment will be: transient. Right off the bat, this place has very trendy vibes. They have neon signs, loud music, and dim lighting. My friend ordered a mango margarita mocktail and I had a watermelon kiwi margarita. The drinks were delicious but a bit sweet. I couldn't taste the tequila in my drink so I'm not sure if they even put any in (maybe half a shot?) I couldn't believe a cocktail would be $16 and a mocktail which was basically juice was $9. We had ordered two tacos. The chicken shawarma tacos and the ahi tuna tacos. Both were good amazing. The flavors worked well together, especially in the chicken tacos. The pico de gallo gave a nice fresh taste to the chicken. Overall not a bad place. Service was a bit slow, and music a bit loud. As an update: Rating to 2 stars. The owner responded to my sister's review telling us we could go to elsewhere, Chili's or Applebees. Distasteful. Not recommended. Go where your business is appreciated during a pandemic no less. Urban Roast! The only dining out experience I've had during the COVID winter season. My sister wanted to go for her birthday as they have enticing fire pit tables under tents for outdoor COVID dining. Our party of three increased to four at the last minute. Like most restaurants, a last minute change can cause a delay. Understandable. We were accommodating someone and the restaurant was able to accommodate us. Every fire pit table had a group of people at them as it appeared no problem, but we waited and were able to wait inside where it was warm. We were seated at fire pit table and this Saturday night, it was about 30 degrees. It felt like we were outdoor camping in the dead of winter. The fire-pit table was more of a fire hazard for us than providing warmth. The edge of the table didn't seem to be sufficient for plates of food and drinks, but other patrons were making it work. We tried to ascertain information before making reservations about their heating set up, but you don't know until you know I guess. I looked around and mostly everyone was huddled with giant coats. Pictures that I saw of the establishment were of patrons in the daytime. Please keep that in mind if you go. At night, it is very cold. While there were some standing heaters, our wing of the tent was only heated by the fire pits at the table. We asked if we could wait for inside seating. A guy, who we learned was the manager (Dave), addressed us in a very inpatient and bothered manner-- in so many words we were told that we reserved the outside table and our only other option would be to eat at the waiting table where we were sitting, but we wouldn't be further accommodated. The facts are fair as they use a reservation system, it was the manner in which we were addressed by THE manager nonetheless that was off-putting and would deter me from returning (0-1 star) It was my sister's birthday and to not sour the occasion, we decided to stay. The service was immaculate. We made sure that the waiter knew were very happy with her service and she made the night much better for us. She gave my sister a piece of cake to go for her birthday to boot! The food was pretty good (tapas and shared plates style). Lamb chops and the lobster mac are recommended! The shrimp empanadas were good, but our bbq pork empanadas were rock hard and on the drier side (more than 1 order) While it was served with sauce, it is not recommended. The drinks were fab! Applause to the mixologist(s) and bartenders! Every single person who walked by our table checked in on us with the exception of the manager who whisked by us quite a few times, personally brought out drinks to patrons that were sat near us and I personally saw him in the back clapping and singing happy birthday with another table. (We mentioned a birthday in the 'add a special request' section of OpenTable.) Overall, we had an enjoyable time-- the relaxed atmosphere made for nice, unpretentious dining-- most people especially guys had on sweats and sneakers, a giant, gorgeous poodle walked through the restaurant with its owner unleashed, the music was upbeat and the deco is definitely Instagram worthy. I picked the perfect date and time to visit this popular DC brunch spot. Even though I reserved our spot, the restaurant was not crowded at all. It was beautifully decorated for the holiday season. Honestly it is quite picturesque. To go with the spirit of the season, I ordered the Whiskey cider as a drink. Absolutely the best cocktail I had in a while. The temperature of the drink can warm anyone up on the chilliest day. It was so divine I order another one. For appetizers we feasted on the empanadas and the crab dip. Both were good and plenty to share with others. The entree I ordered the strawberry waffle was quite underwhelming. I expected a nice crisp waffles with sweetness of strawberries, what I got was a whipped creamed cover dry waffle. After tasting the tasty lobster ravioli, I immediately regretted choosing the waffle. This place is super cute and very trendy. We sat outside at their fire pit tables. Let's talk about that for a moment. They are packed together a bit tightly. While their patio is dog friendly - there's not really room for them because there's little room between tables and no space under tables for them to sit. If the patio is busy - this can get awkward. Now the rest - the menu is a bit all over the place - but in a good way that offers loads of choices. We found some great dishes in there... get the charcuterie platter. It's impressive. I will say I didn't find a cheese I loved but all were good. The brisket was great. The empanadas were yum (the full cheese one is a bit much) the beef was awesome. The halloumi was nice but actually a bit much as I can't eat a lot of it in a sitting. The Mac and cheese was a huge hit with the kids and was great. I wouldn't bother with the capresse small dish. It was fine but nothing special. The cocktail drinks looked divine but were $12+ and the marshmallow s'mores looked fun but pretty pricey for the worlds cheapest dessert. The service was ok. Look it's a pandemic and everyone is short staffed. I get it. But also it took me 15+ mins to get a bill and pay it as the place was filling up. I had to send the kids and husband away because the wait was too much for the little people. It was that long. Also the menu says they automatically add a 20% tip for parties of 6+. Parking: I have to write this review to help anyone who is driving to urban roast because I didn't come across a lot reviews on parking. Make sure there isn't a capitals game going on or any other event going on in the area because there will be no street parking and impossible to find a spot. You have a choice to park in nearby garages, but some close early so first make sure of the time. Second I had no idea that you had to make a reservation online to park in the garages. So make sure to have that online link on your phone just in case you are in that situation. My boyfriend was looking for a parking spot for over half an hour. Also restaurant gives you a 15 min grace period for your reservation time. Table time is limited to 1.5 hr Review: Other than that my experience at the restaurant was really good, it's perfect for a first date night if you're self conscious about overstuffing your face. I loved the whole Valentine's theme decor, their drinks and charcuterie board. I tried the pineapple blueberry margarita which is a 10/10, the white chocolate raspberry martini was amazing if you're into milky cocktails. And I really enjoyed the Italy charcuterie board, it's small enough for 1 but can be shared by two. If you enjoy different cheeses and meats I would recommend. Meh. My friends and I came here on Cinco de Mayo (idk why. we just really wanted to try it). I would call this place an 'Instagram Restaurant'. It seems that the focus is on presentation/decor and not the food/drinks. We started with drinks. - Old Fashioned. It's good! They bring it out in the smoker box so you get a very cute presentation and that smoky smell and taste. - Paloma. I thought this was good. No complaints here. - We tried a couple margaritas and mojitos and they all came out tasting like just juice. A delicious juice drink, but tasted alcohol-less. Food. - Ahi tuna. I loved it. It had this white and brown sauce that was delicious. I recommend. - Garlic Butter Short Ribs. DRYYYYYYYYY!! Our server recommended these and i'm not sure why. They were dry and not very tasty. It's a good amount though. - Melted halloumi cheese. I love halloumi. This wasn't bad but anytime I've had it, it typically comes with something. Anything. But the halloumi is good. - Teriyaki Chick Satay. Salty. Howeverrrrr, as a sodium fiend, I thought it was good. The rest of the table did not like these. - Premium Meat & Cheese Board. SKIPPPP IT! There's a strange amount of fruit on this board. (Granted the fruit was good.) But why so much WATERMELON? And a whole pineapple display in the middle. - Spinach & Artichoke dip. It was good! - Mac & Cheese (Brisket and the Buffalo Chicken). Dry. To have an entire section dedicated to mac and cheese and have it not be your specialty is strange to me. I give it a four-star rating mostly for the experience and the unique outdoor seating. Each party gets a fire pit to themselves (I'd say about 4-5 per table) to roast marshmallows. I think it was a $60 minimum which was not hard to cover. With our party of 4, we each ordered S'mores and a seasonal cocktail. Although not pictured, the s'mores were great! You get 2 plus-sized marshmallows which means you get one to burn for practice and another one to try making it at least edible. For the drinks, the Merry Mojito was done well, but for the other ones (Boozy White Chocolate and Pumpkin Spice White Russian), they could've been mixed better. Additionally, service was a bit slow considering all they had to bring out were plates of marshmallows and crackers. Fun place to go - check it out, but reserve in advance. Opened great now it has gone down a bit. I came in with family for a birthday dinner and the place was packed and loud and the service was not great compared to the prices. The manager tried to smooth things up but it was a little too late and everyone was already annoyed. The food was good so no cap on that. But I won't hold you because the drinks left much to be desired and the ice/water the drinks done so badly. Even if you're a newby to cocktails and margaritas you can tell it's basic at best. This was my first time at this restaurant. When I walked in I noticed that the tables were really close together, like they were trying to fit as many seats in one room as possible. As well as the ambience, it was super loud in there, I could barely hear anybody at my table. Also it was extremely dark and hard to see what we were eating, but I think that has to do with the staff putting us in the back corner of the restaurant. In regards to the food, it was OK for the price. I've had better and wouldn't go out of my way to come to this restaurant again unless I wanted to get some cute pictures for Instagram. I had a great first experience dining at Urban Roast! It's located within walking distance of Gallery Place Metro Station so it's metro accessible. I love the ambiance of the indoor and outdoor space but outdoor is where it's at to get the full experience. They have a beautiful gas fireplace in the middle of the table and great for when it's gets a little chilly at night during the spring time. They have a pretty big menu with a lot of options but the Buffalo Mac and cheese dish caught my eye and I was happy I chose it! They give a nice size portion and it's very affordable. Our table decided to get the s'mores option for dessert and it definitely topped off everything. They have a lovely S'mores menu with several options to choose from. We got the Samoa with toasted coconut and it did not disappoint! The service overall was great, our server was very attentive and informative about the menu and answered all our questions.
