Urban Thai Kitchen is my new favorite spot for Thai food in Katy! We came by for lunch last week, and it was a great experience. I ordered the classic pad thai with chicken & really enjoyed it. The fresh vegetables were a nice touch! I felt like it had a stronger peanut taste than the pad thai I've had from other places, which I didn't mind at all. We asked for chili oil, and that made it even better. The khao soi here is now one of my favorite Thai dishes. My boyfriend chose to order this one, and it was amazing! I plan to come back soon just to order a whole bowl for myself. My dad ordered the massaman curry which was new to all of us. I really liked this one too! The sauce itself was a lot sweeter than I originally expected, and there was a good amount of meat included. For dessert we tried both items on the menu - the sticky rice + mango and coconut ice cream. The mango sticky rice was delicious! By far the best version of it I've had. The mango itself was surprisingly sweet & so much better than a random mango from the grocery store. The ice cream was less creamy than we expected, but it had a great fresh coconut flavor. I try not to be mean these days but since I drove 30min for some whack food, I had to let it be known. This is probably one of the worst Thai restaurants I've ever been to. The service was already trash but that didn't matter to me, until the food was also trash. I came on a weekend but the food was still not fresh. Red Curry - 1/5: I like salty foods but this was way too salty and didn't have the savory and sweet coconut taste as it should. The chicken in there was old and had a freezer burn after taste that was gross Red Snapper - 1/5: This was a fried dish so what could go wrong? The fish was flavorless and also old. You could tell it had been sitting in the freezer for quite some time due how hard and dry the fish skin was. The sauce that came with it was also not good Son in law eggs - 3/5 - Fried eggs tossed in tamarind sauce. I wanted to try this because it was new to me. It was actually not bad but then again it's just eggs. $6 for 3 eggs is too much for what it's worth Sticky rice and mango - 3/5: Sticky rice was a bit mushy but overall taste of this fiswas not bad. If you have some nice Thai decor, it's nice but as you and other Yelpers would probably agree: ambience is low on the totem pole when it comes to Thai food. if someone's grandma is in the back making my noodles and rolling my spring rolls, you know it'll be good. We have been wanting to try this place for awhile and it turned out to be a good option for Thai food in Katy, TX. Came at 2pm on a Saturday and they gave us the lunch menu and still offered their lunch specials. They come with a main dish of choice, soup, salad, and a spring role. We tried the "money bags" and "roti with Massaman sauce for appetizers. Eating the money bags was fun but they lacked flavor. The roti was amazing though. Chicken Panang Curry was really good but I was disappointed with the Drunken Noodles. I asked for medium spice and it came with virtually ZERO SPICE and was bland. The mango sticky rice dessert was delicious with a perfectly ripe mango used. Hope to come and order off the dinner menu next time and get better luck with the spice levels of the food. read more

The food at Urban Thai is fabulous! My vegetarian granddaughter loves Thai food, but is a very picky eater. We found Urban Thai tucked away in a shopping center on Grand Parkway and are so glad we tried it. We shared vegetable spring rolls and Pad Thai (with tofu). She was surprised at how much she liked it (and so was I, because she doesn't like most foods). I was surprised that I liked their tofu (because I never like tofu). I think this is the best Thai in Katy. It's a small place, so I'd say a group size of of 6-8 is probably the max. We ordered several items: crispy vegetable spring rolls, Tom yum with vegetables, wonton Tom yum, pad Thai with vegetables, khao soi, to name a few. I thought the khao soi was the best I've had by far since visiting Pok Pok in Portland OR. Great flavor, creamy broth, and a nice portion size. The vegetable spring rolls were decent, the Tom yum with vegetables was okay because the vegetables were kind of boring, but I would definitely get the wonton Tom yum next time because it's better in terms of vegetables--bok choy--and the wontons were tasty. The pad Thai was good but pretty basic. It was a really large portion, which was great for leftovers. Like the veg Tom yum, I wasn't a huge fan of the vegetable selection again--yellow squash just doesn't do it for me. Since I visit Katy a lot, I will definitely be back. I'd say this is fairly on par with places inside the loop for Thai. read more

Good food makes me happy - the Pad Thai from Urban Thai was certainly the highlight of my week! All the ingredients tasted fresh and clean. Unlike a lot of Thai restaurants, Urban Thai's food was flavorful without being too greasy. The portion size was huge. If you don't eat a lot, it could easily last for two meals. However, the food was too good for me to save for later, so I finished the entire plate but didn't feel stuffed or bloated. The service was incredible. The waitress was super friendly and came over multiple times to check on us and refill our water cups. I'm so grateful to have a good quality restaurant like Urban Thai in Katy. I HIGHLY recommend this place if you haven't visited yet. I already know that I will be back next week to try the Pad See Ewe! We usually order from Tony Thai off Bellaire Blvd which is a bit of a drive from here in Katy but worth it bc the food was always so good (and so cheap). We used to always go to Thai Gourmet too but it's again a drive and more expensive than Tony Thai. We've been waiting for a great Thai place in Katy. This is definitely it. None of the others are as good as this. It's not as cheap as Tony Thai but the portions are big, no shortage of shrimp/meat in the food, so you are definitely not overpaying AT ALL. All the food was perfectly cooked, even the mussels and scallops; which always seem to be over cooked in other places. Oh and the Thai tea was excellent as well. We ordered 7 dishes: Tom yum soup (not pictured) - 5/5, this is one of the most authentic Tom yum soup flavors I've ever had and i always get Tom yum soup at any Thai restaurant I go to. Cheese rolls - 5/5; i personally am a fan of cream cheese so i LOVED this. But if you do not like cream cheese i would suggest trying the money bags as an appetizer! Lamb chop - 5/5, omg guys, it was cooked perfect and it was so tender. It comes with a side of sticky rice and also a papaya salad. The papaya salad itself was so good i probably would've ordered it alone as well. It has the right level of spice and everything. I can't remember the name but there's a dish with crispy pork - it comes with rice and an egg. The crispy pork was soooo good, it didn't even taste like i was eating anything fattening and was very flavorful, but it wasn't too much to where i NEEDED to eat it with rice. It was fine on its own! Khao nam tod - 5/5, so this was an appetizer but it was a pretty good portion. It's a lettuce wrap type of dish and I'm not sure what the fried part was but the meat part is fermented beef (in viet is nem), this was different but i really enjoyed it as well Last but not least - the mango sticky rice 100000/5, this is really why i came and it was soo good, especially when it came out hot! If you're ever in the area or in need of a new comfort food restaurant i would definitely recommend going here! They have so much more and i would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu! The Tom kha gai is less spicy than the Tom yum goong. The green curry surprisingly was served with noodles instead of rice like other places. However, surprisingly it was delicious with noodles! Pad Thai and Pad See Ewe had all the noodles cut into 1.5" pieces and were stuck together and undercooked. We usually come as a family of 6 or 8 and we never have to wait long. The place is super clean and everyone seems happy to see you. Everything we order is always good and the price is very reasonable. My mom and dad enjoys everything here so that to me is all it matters. I'll be the first to say my mom can be irritating towards restaurant staffs, which is why we usually tip a lot more, at least before inflation.
