I decided to order takeout from here for dinner and I'm so glad I did. When I arrived to pick up my order, the employees were friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is spacious, and there's a nice wooden bench inside where you can comfortably sit and wait for your food. I ordered the Thai Basil Fried Rice and the Se Eu both with chicken. My order was hot and ready right on time. I was impressed that it stayed fresh and piping hot even after I got home. The standout of the meal was definitely the Thai Basil Fried Rice. It was incredibly flavorful, with perfectly cooked, juicy chicken that wasn't dry at all. The seasoning was well-balanced and the squeeze of lime added a delicious savory and tangy finish. The Se Eu was okay with the vegetables being crunchy. The noodles tasted a bit bland. I think next time I'd probably ask for a bit more seasoning and maybe more spicier to give it an extra kick. As a local in the neighborhood, I come here every once in a while. The food is usually pretty good. I like the drunken noodle and tamarind chicken. Curry is often good too. My gripe is how expensive this spot has gotten over the years. I know everybody and their mother were raising prices during Covid because they could, but $19 for a noodle dish is pretty steep. Nevertheless, sometimes I crave decent thai food and visit Urban Thai. Then comes my second gripe. They are SOO stingey with the condiments. Even when you dine in, they give you small to go containers for the chilis. I just ordered $75 worth of food and asked for the green chilis in vinegar. I got ONE mini cup. I ordered 4 entrees. Come on, train your servers better if you're gonna charge an arm and leg. read more

I really enjoy eating here! The location is nice, as there is not another Thai place located in Carmel mountain. The parking is not that great if it is busy at the neighboring stores/restaurants. This restaurant is opened pretty late, and they are always busy with online orders. I have tried both panang and green curry, and I can't tell which one I like more! The noodles are really flavorful and feeds me for two meals! I have ate here with a party of 8 and can see that they could possibly seat a bigger party, however, it would be best to contact the restaurant for anything bigger. The inside is clean and well taken care of. I come here at least once a month and I do think it is worth the price and is reasonable amongst other Thai places! Last night, my friend and I went to a marvelous restaurant; it was in the Rancho Bernardo/Poway area. Honestly, I hadn't been there yet, but had looked for something that was open late in the area. I normally live in NYC (the city that never sleeps!), and soon realized that not much in the No. Inland County of SD area is open late. So, since our friendship date was at 8 PM, this is the place that I chose. In other words, other than generally enjoying Thai food, our selection of this place was largely due to scheduling. Sometimes, it's about practicality. Yet, once we were there, we were both pleasantly surprised by the welcoming, relaxed vibe as well as both the quantity and quality of food that they shared. (Also, we didn't have a reservation; but they still promptly seated us, even though it was fairly busy then, which we appreciated.) We ordered countless items from the menu, and they were all tasteful and oh so filling. We went home with more than half a dozen to-go boxes, too! : ) I particularly enjoyed the coconut milk soup with veggies and the dessert, which was the fried banana rolls paired with coconut ice cream. Can you infer that I'm into coconut everything?? LOL Last but not least, big shoutouts go out to Ivan and Roberto, for their loving hospitality and epic service. We were staying at the Sonesta Hotel and needed a good spot for dinner, so we decided to order from Urban Thai Kitchen next door. It ended up being the perfect choice! We ordered the cheesy wontons, Pad Thai noodles with shrimp, and the vegetable red curry with rice, all with the "a little spicy" level. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was incredibly frustrating. I ordered through Uber Eats, and the restaurant gave my driver the wrong order. Thankfully, my Uber driver was kind enough to go back and wait for my correct order, which added another 30 minutes to an order that had already taken over an hour. She went above and beyond to fix a mistake that wasn't hers, so I tipped her an extra $15 because I truly appreciated her effort. Because of the delay, my husband and I never even got to eat the lunch we ordered. We had to go back to work before our food finally arrived, so the entire purpose of ordering lunch was defeated. While we were waiting, I was told the restaurant would provide a credit for the inconvenience. When the order finally arrived, there was no gift card or credit included. I called the restaurant, only to be told that I would have to come in and dine at the restaurant to receive it. That is not what I was originally told, and expecting customers to make another trip after an experience like this is not a reasonable resolution. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. What matters is how they're handled. Unfortunately, the lack of follow-through and poor customer service made an already frustrating situation even worse. I hope the restaurant improves both its order accuracy and the way it resolves issues when they occur. On top of that, this is how much chicken was in the dish. read more

I came here during a late Saturday afternoon with a group of 5 people. The place was fairly empty but the staff was very attentive and welcoming. We ordered the papaya salad, red curry, lemongrass soup, and pad see ew. The papaya salad was delicious. It had the right balance with the sweet, salty, spicy, sour and umami. The red curry and pad see ew were also great. As for the lemongrass soup, I don't know if my soup bowl had leftover soap from the dish washer in there but there was an aftertaste of soap. I do like lemongrass and am fine with cilantro so I don't think the soapy taste came from either of those. Overall, the 3/4 of the dishes we tried were great and the last one was delicious with the exception of that soapy undertone. read more

My husband and I are new to the area. We came here after a long day of moving and brought my in laws with us. We came into the restaurant with no expectations and were pleasantly surprised. We got a round of waters for the table and then placed our order for food. I ordered the papaya salad, Thai lemon grass soup, pad see ew, and red curry (all my personal favorites). The papaya salad was well dressed and had the right combination of flavors that you would find in a papaya salad. It was tangy, salty, a little sweet, and a hint spicy. It was also very umami as well. The Thai lemon grass soup was my least favorite. I was the waitress if that was the same as tom yum soup and she said yes. The soup came out on a burner and was filled with veggies like squash, carrot, broccoli, and mushroom. I don't recall Tom yum soup ever having broccoli in it. Not what I'd call authentic but it was good. It reminded me of the soup tamarind mix from Knorrs. It was very one note (just sour) instead of the full flavor I was looking for. I don't think I'd order this again or recommend it. Red curry was probably the best of the dishes we ate. It came with a side of rice. I forgot to take a picture before we dug in because we were starving. It was tasty and was loaded with veggies and chicken. I'd be open to trying it again after trying out the other curries like the yellow, green, and panang curry. Lastly the pad see ew is always a favorite of mine. I like it more than pad Thai. The taste is what I'm used to but the veggies were not. I was missing the gai lan (Chinese broccoli). The dish instead came with broccoli and cabbage. An interesting choice but still delicious regardless. The food is definitely delicious and worth trying! I don't know if I'd say all the dishes are authentic but I'd still eat it. read more

Great experience here for a graduation dinner! We were looking for somewhere that is open late night and fit for a group, as we did not have a reservation. We called ahead of time and they said we could come and have no problem being seated. The menu is very similar to your typical Thai restaurant, segmented by noodles, soups/curries, and protein dishes. Located in Carmel mountain ranch in a large strip mall, there is plenty of parking so that should never be a concern. The restaurant itself is large with inside and outside seating available. There are two unisex bathrooms as well. For food we ordered the coconut shrimp and lemongrass (Tom Yum) soup with shrimp and shared the ginger chicken entree between us. The coconut shrimp was ok, I remember it being better but today it wasn't crispy and was a bit on the oily side in fact. The lemongrass soup with shrimp was delicious. Not as sour as you find in more authentic Thai restaurants, I feel Urban Thai caters more to the American palette than Asian, but full of veggies like mushrooms, broccoli, lettuce and carrots. The ginger chicken was average. I wanted to find more flavor in the dish and the sauce but it was kind of bland but spicy. The chicken was overcooked as well and a bit on the tough side as a result. The food came out really fast after we placed our orders. We really like the bbq pork drunken noodle, Chicken yellow curry, and the pineapple fried rice dishes. The Pad Thai was not very good. Came here with a few friends for dinner during the week. The place is not very big but cozy and clean inside. We ordered the tangerine chicken which was kind of overcooked and dry. They didn't put nearly enough sauce on it. I did try the Drunken Noodles which were pretty good, and the green curry which I also really enjoyed. We were a bit disappointed to hear that they did not have the mango sticky rice even though it was on the menu. The prices are fairly reasonable however I feel that I have gotten much bigger portions of Drunken Noodles and Curry at some other places. The service was a bit slow but overall not bad. We did a take out order. I was impressed with how fast it took. I ordered at 6:15 on my phone and had it in hand by 6:29. Okay first things first. Let me help explain the spice level. This place does THREE levels. 1- not spicy. 2- spicy. 3- super spicy. If you don't like spice, just get a 1. Don't think you can handle a 2 if you don't like spice. If you like spicy food, get a 2. It's spicy. It's balanced though. If you need to feel something, want to second guess your choices, sweat a little, and clear your sinuses, get a 3. Okay on to the food: My wife got the lemongrass soup (tom yum) and the spring rolls. She added chicken to the soup and added shrimp to the spring rolls. She says the soup was too sweet and didn't taste like other tom yum soups she had. The spring rolls were broken which made it hard to eat, but she said they were great despite the spill. I got the green curry and was impressed. It was delicious. Plenty of meat. Full of flavor. The spice level was PERFECT (I got a 2). The papaya salad was light and sweet. I've never had it before so I can't compare it to another but it was light and enjoyable. Maybe on the sweet side but that might also be the standard. Was just here the other week! Urban Thai has pretty much turned into one of my favorite Thai spots mainly bc it's close and service is always friendly/fast. In terms of somethin new: I'd recommend trying their gey-lee-cha, basically a lychee iced tea drink. I don't think you're able to find that at most Thai places If you're looking for something reliable and filling in terms of a good bite: - Crab Fried Rice never disappoints. The is a casual Thai restaurant that seems like a hybrid of a Chinese and Thai cuisine. I ordered the green curry and was happy with my dish. Two of my friends ordered a fried chicken dish that they didn't care for. The chicken was dried and hard, almost like re-fried leftovers. The same friend who ordered the dried chicken said her tom kha soup was a bit on the sweet side. Another friend ordered wonton soup that she said was good. Another friend was pleased with her drunken noodles. It was a mixed review depending on what was ordered. Overall, I would say the food here was average and service wasn't too bad. They were very sincere and made sure that a refund would be issued, and to call if it didn't go thru in a timely manner. Aside from the great customer service, the food was decent! We had ordered some cheesy wontons and the drunken noodles. The wontons were crispy and flavorful, but the noodles fell short for us a little bit. The texture of the noodles were gummy and the flavor profile of the dish was more on the bland side. I would recommend this as a good spot to try out, especially for the customer service. Good food, absolutely unacceptable service -- never coming back ! We've been coming to this restaurant for a while because the food is good, even though the service has always been mediocre. This was a lazy Monday night with less than 25% of the tables occupied, yet we sat for 15-20 minutes without anyone coming to take our order. No acknowledgment. Nothing. Eventually, the receptionist felt bad and took our order, which should have been our first red flag. No one even bothered to refill our water, even though servers were refilling glasses at the table right next to us and deliberately skipping ours. My young child was waiting for fried rice (his favorite). When I finally asked a waiter about it, his response was: "I don't know who your waiter is -- they forgot to place the order. Do you want the fried rice or are you done?" No apology. No ownership. No attempt to fix the situation. Just attitude. No one even came to give us the check. I had to walk to the front desk and deal with the same rude waiter just to pay and leave. Management should take this seriously: arrogant and discriminatory service kills businesses faster than bad food ever will. Loyal customers don't disappear quietly -- they stop coming and they warn others. Food is one thing, but no one goes out with their family to be ignored, talked down to, and treated as an inconvenience. Why would anyone pay to be insulted like this? read more

Amazing Thai Food!! I really enjoyed that the curries have different veggies and not just the bell peppers. Had the Red Curry and it was really good, the eggplant definitely gave it a nice taste.
