Absolutely delicious!!! I first went here as part of a meet-up group, The Longmont Over 40 Social Club, and was delightfully surprised. The food choices were many, and the food was amazing. The level of spiciness is easily determined with a 1-5 scale, so for those of us who like to taste our food without setting our mouths on fire, this is a wonderful thing. The wait staff, Priscilla speficially, is phenomenal, knowledgable and patient. Edward, one of the owners, went above and beyond to personally welcome us and see to our needs. Urban Thai was our first trip into Prospect and it did not disappoint. As other reviews said, the decor is modern and beautiful from the seating to the glass wear. It's a small dining room but I really like the different kinds of seating. Hubbie asked for iced tea and the server explained they have Thai iced tea which is a combo of green tea and something else (vanilla?) with a splash of half & half. It tasted like a green tea milkshake and was quite different and tasty (also bright orange! Not sure why...). We had coconut shrimp for apps and both sauces were great; shrimp was crispy and we had to fight over the last one. I had Pad Thai with tofu for my meal and it was a scrumptious large portion. About five years ago my mentor in grad school introduced me to Thai food. My wife and I went on many adventures to Thai 9 in Dayton Ohio. Since moving to Northern Colorado we hadn't found a good substitute. That changed tonight! My desires in a restaurant include great food with good portions, fair price, And a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy with friends and family. This place really fit the bill. We ordered Thai fries at the dipping sauces were amazing. The sweet and salty combination went perfectly with the heat of Thai chili. We munched and enjoyed the small yet comfortable dining room. It was very relaxing and it was clear that the other patrons felt the same way. For dinner I had pad Thai while my wife enjoyed the drunken noodles. Both were excellent portion sizes with a good amount of chicken. The spice level is on a 1 to 5 rating. two was plenty for me, my wife enjoyed the three. our service was very friendly but a little slow when it came time to bring the check. Not a huge issue for us. He was able to use our yelp check in discount without any confusion, which I appreciated. I always feel awkward asking about that kind of stuff, but may as well use it right? When my wife and I moved to Portland, Oregon, we were introduced to the wonderful world of Thai food. We since moved to the Boulder/Longmont area of Colorado and the first thing we did was set out to find some good Thai food. We came across Urban Thai and it was very good stuff. The food tastes good and it's somewhat spicy. However, I like veggie Pad Thai and they really give you nothing in the veggie department. It's more like you order the Pad Thai noodles and order the veggies extra. We probably won't go back very often because of this, but that is just our preference. read more

After reading the positive reviews here, I was pretty sure that Urban Thai would be worth checking out with my parents during my holiday visit, and those reviews aren't wrong: we all agreed that it was some of the best Thai food we'd ever had. We went with your basic "yardstick" selection of panang curry, green curry salmon, pad thai, larb gai, coconut shrimp, and lettuce wraps and traded around. Everything was excellent, with generous portions (we each departed with leftovers). We all chose a 3 on the 1-to-5 Scale of Spice, which tasted like just the right amount of spicy for a 3 at an American Thai restaurant. The only slight disappointments were the coconut and green tea ice creams, which were a bit lacking in flavor--but I don't know too many people who go to Thai restaurants for the dessert, and that's relatively easy to forgive, amirite? No later than next week, we're hoping to return and try the golden baskets ("stir fried marinated chicken with sweet peas and carrots served with a handmade crispy mini basket"), which weren't available on the night we went, and I think I have a date with a 4-spicy Egg Bomb. (Get this: "stir fried minced chicken or pork, basil with bird's eye chili over Thai style fried egg." WTF? Perhaps the reviewer who wanted "a bit more creative dishes" didn't notice that one, but apparently it's a thing, and it arguably needs to be experienced at least once.) Our server Mel was friendly and extremely attentive despite a fairly full house, and the chef dropped by as well at the end of the meal for feedback. While I know it's not impossible to "game" Yelp, I think it's significant that, of the two recommended but negative reviews to date, both were from Urban Thai's first couple weeks in business, and one has since been updated with a much more positive second experience after one of the owners reached out. We tried everything: Apps, soup, noodles, dessert. My parents are in their 70's and eating Thai was a cultural shift from their preferred Texas Roadhouse. I'd rather drink cod liver oil than eat at that chain restaurant again. So I gently talked them into Thai. I hadn't eaten here so it was a gamble, but I was will willing to trust Yelper's opinions here. In a word, great. The food was flavorful with an option to heat it from 0-5. This made a huge difference for my mom who went with 0 and was very happy with her food. The location is beautiful, the decor is tasteful (no waving cats), the owner is friendly and knowledgeable but most importantly the food is excellent. I can't wait to bring a date here. read more

Well, I was expecting a lot from reading other reviews. Was a bit disappointed. Ordered the Tom Kha soup with tofu. It was very good. Definitely the best thing I ordered. Also ordered the shrimp pad thai, which needed more salt, more sweetness, and definitely more garlic. Was good though. Got the Thai flan with blue sticky rice for dessert. My waitress raved over it so I decided to order it. It was interesting. I ate most of it but still can't decide if it was very good or not. :) Not too sweet, which I appreciate. Presentation was a little sloppy. And the leaf it's placed on gave it a slightly weird flavor toward the bottom Very friendly staff and reasonable prices. Cool atmosphere. Would I recommend it? Yes. Urban Thai is one of those restaurants that I can never choose what to order because I have loved everything I've tried! We typically start the meal with coconut shrimp and a bowl of wonton soup - absolutely amazing. For the main course, the noodle dishes are fantastic, especially the drunken noodles. The spicy shrimp scampi will blow your mind! Truly, though, you will probably enjoy just about anything you order. Additionally, I really enjoy the ambience of Urban Thai because it is so small and comfortable, yet still hip for the Prospect neighborhood. I don't like Thai food...but the food here is incredible. I had the breaded eggplant and drunken noodles. Go easy on the level of hot because it escalates quickly. The mango pie is sooooooo good. A fair warning, the service is pretty terrible. I still think the food makes up for it, but don't expect to get out of here within a reasonable time. The waitress was incompetent and I was constantly being bothered by high school students trying to remove dishes. By the time I was done eating, I gave the waitress my card and just told her to run it (knowing if I didn't, I'd have to wait another 20 minutes). Had the Chicken wonton soup. It was ok somewhat salty for my taste. Drunken noodle with tofu for dinner. Lacked flavor.came with bell pepper and cherry tomatoes. I've never had it this way. They don't offer the chile sauce or peppers in vinegar . For dessert it was mango and blue sticky rice. Mango was not that sweet and rice dry. I like the atmosphere of this restaurant though the tables are so close together that one can almost eat off the neighbor's plate. The service was great & we had a very upbeat waiter. I won't order the Spicy tofu Scampi again as it was rather dry and bland. The tofu was tasty but there was really no sauce on the whole dish. I wanted to venture into the kitchen to doctor it up with other vegetables (besides just cabbage) and cook up a yummy spicy sauce to pour on it. We stopped by Urban Thai in Longmont with friends last night. We had the Urban Thai filet of fish, and our friends had shrimp dishes. We also had wontons and salad. The salad was so-so, but the wontons were light and crisp, and the sweet and sour sauce was obviously homemade, much thinner and tastier than the usual. The fish entree was lovey with large flakes of fish and an extremely light coating. The sauce for the fish was described as sweet/sour/spicy--three way! My husband and I had a really nice dinner here. I've been craving spicy Thai food and we had about two hours to kill. The atmosphere is what I would expect for Prospect- clean and bright and maybe a little too hip. Service was extremely friendly and maybe a little too helpful (we love Thai food, we know how to read a menu, we don't need THAT much explanation). Also, I'm pregnant and I think I'm showing, so it cracked me up that she kept trying to sell their cocktail menu on us ;-) I did enjoy my Thai iced tea. The Tom Yum soup was very, very good. It's one of my favorite foods on Earth when done right, but the flavor is so rarely correct. Urban Thai's Tom Yum, however, is authentically flavored! There were chunks of lemon grass in it that made it a bit hard to eat, but I'll forgive that for the phenomenal flavor. For dinner we had the lemongrass chicken and panang beef, both spice level 3. Typically my husband is the heat freak and I prefer mild, but he thought the 3 was a hint too hot and I thought it was a hint too mild. Oh, pregnancy! I think a 2 would normally be spot-on. More importantly, the flavors were incredibly! The lemongrass chicken was moist and delicious, and the panang had all the flavor layers I love. My only complaint is that the panang didn't have a lot of veg in it, and the peas were shelled peas rather than snow peas (which would have been my preference). We had steamed broccoli instead of rice so I just added it to the curry, and that was perfect! There was plenty of sauce! Dessert was also very good. We had the fried banana with vanilla ice cream, which I devoured! Great crispy wrappers surrounding deliciously ripe bananas. Overall we enjoyed our meal and the setting, and we'll be back with my parents (big Thai food fans) the next time I have a craving! read more

New to the Longmont area so decided to try this place. Longmont is not generally known for good food/restaurants with just a couple of exceptions to that rule. Solid Thai food. When the waitress found out I like things super hot, they even put a couple of Thai chilies in my soup. Yum. Portion sizes were just about right IMO. We had no leftovers, but were quite full. I had the green curry with shrimp and the wife tried the drunken noodles. Cool that it has a full bar. We were there for lunch and I don't drink in the daytime, but with dinner I like to have a few drinks so that is a plus. Will be going back. read more

I actually liked it as soon as I walked in. It was 3:30 Saturday afternoon so we had Edward and the entire place to ourselves. Table setting, menu, and cute bottle for water were Service was neat, quick and pleasant. Edward is very charming and I would enjoy sitting down with him and chat it up. We ordered the app combo ,my favorite being the coconut shrimp, but it was all, can I say appetizing :-) husband ordered the curry hot 4 and said it was very good and as hot as he wanted. Me, I had my stand by, Pad Thai with heat at 3. I think the proportion was just right especially after having an app, I felt over stuffed when I was done. Then we talked ourselves into a cupcake! Urban Thai is the best Thai food my wife and I have ever eaten. We've never had a bad dish. We usually get the sample appetizer to start. I get chicken pad Thai and my wife usually gets the street noodles. The owner always greets us and the chef usually comes out and asks us how our meal was. Great food! Great service! My husband and I finally had a chance to try Urban Thai and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was comfortable, but beautiful. We sat at the bar and the owner was serving us. He was very personable and kept an ongoing conversation with us, which we like and one of the reasons we like to sit at the bar often when we go out to dinner. His recommendations for food and wine were spot on. My only complaint was how he spoke to his staff. There were clearly a couple of new servers and rather than educate them (or perhaps properly train before they're on their own on the floor), he would berate them in front of us. It wasn't terribly harsh, but enough to make us feel uncomfortable and feel bad for the server. In one case (yes, there were a few in the 45 minutes we were there), there was a potential mix up between a cocktail and a non-alcoholic beverage because they are called nearly the same thing. That is a lawsuit waiting to happen if the wrong drink is given to a child. Seems like a good time to get creative with the cocktail's name. We will absolutely go back, but I hope this review can shed some light on how to treat staff so diners can have an all-around great experience. read more

Typical thai. Good but nothing that stood out. The mango in the dessert with sticky rice was the best thing I had. It was ripe and warm and perfect. Service wasnt that great, the waiter forgot about me out on the patio and I had to go in to get my check. It was fine since I wasnt in a rush, but had I been, I would have been a little ruffled. I chose this spot because the Thai spot in Lyons was out of crispy spring rolls and I really wanted crispy spring. Urbans eggrolls weren't that great. How did this place manage to get good ratings? Did one of their own stuff the ballot box? Every dish looked like it came out of a Chung King can. The vegetable soup they claimed would serve up to 4 people and cost $13, came in a metal hot pot with a center cone -- but it wasn't lit so contents were cold. AND it was a very sparse soup with raw veg ( shredded carrots and cabbage and rice noodles, though no noodles were mentioned on the menu). And the topper was that you couldn't get the soup out easily to serve. Yuck! And that was just the soup. Our "no spice" directive was also ignored. And the only vegetable in the Pad See U was a bit of broccoli. This is not a place we will ever go to again. read more

For vegetables, both meals had what appeared to be diced carrots & peas from a FROZEN food bag. What?? I'll probably never go to Urban Thai again (I've only been to Colorado twice in 30 years). But it's my loss. I'm glad we stumbled across it. Despite its trendy, chic decor we -- a family with young kids -- were made to feel welcome. No kids menu but even better they could make anything on the menu in half portions for kids. All dishes could be made with varying levels of spiciness. The pineapple fried rice was perfect for my younger son. The sweet & sour beef had a little bit of tang but my older son could still eat it. Often authentic Thai -- depending on the chef -- is too sweet for our tastes and we probably wouldn't order the tom yum soup again for that reason. Thankfully the pad thai was not overly sweet and nicely done we thought. I also had the tom kha (coconut) soup which I thought was very good. On top of all that, the price was very reasonable. Ambiance, Quality, Taste & Value all total up to 5 stars. If you like Thai food or are ready to try it then go to Urban Thai! read more

I don't normally write reviews of a restaurant unless I've had an exceptional dining experience, and that is exactly what we had today at the Urban Thai restaurant in Prospect. Since opening mid-summer, the food and service has improved with every visit to the point I can easily rate this place equal to any of the top Thai restaurants I used to frequent in San Francisco. We had the appetizer combo to start. The veggie egg rolls, crispy shrimp rolls and coconut shrimp were perfectly prepared and though they did not have the usual golden baskets, (we were there over lunch) they threw in 3 chicken puff pastries that were simply delicious and I would order again. For the main course we both ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp, which was delivered to us piping hot and with just enough "hotness" (we ordered level 3) to make it interesting but not so hot that you can't taste any of the food. The noodles were moist without being too soft, the sprouts and green onions were added at just the right time to give the dish the perfect "crunch" and were not over cooked in the least. The only thing I was slightly disappointed with was the Thai iced tea. It tasted fine, but it was sweeter than what I was expecting. Being I'm not a big fan of sweets, it is more my personal taste than anything wrong with the drink itself. If you prefer your Chai tea more on the sweet side, then you will love this drink. Edward (One of the owners) stopped by our table several times to answer any questions we might have concerning what we were thinking of ordering. He then checked up on us to ensure we were happy with our meals. Again, it was over lunch so they weren't really busy, but it was a nice touch none the less. Between the atmosphere, pricing, quality of food and service we experienced today, Urban Thai has earned a solid 5 star rating in my book. read more
