Tofu Banh Mi sandwich with side salad (balsamic dressing)

While on road trips, it's always challenging to find healthy, fast food. I was able to order my food ahead to save time. For a sandwich shop, I was surprised that Urbane Cafe had such a delicious Tofu Banh Mi sandwich with a side salad (homemade balsamic dressing) at an affordable price. Though I did not eat in the restaurant, the interior looked clean and the bathrooms were also well maintained.

Came for lunch since the Everbowl is SADLY closed down. It's very nice inside, very very clean. The cashier cleans up everything quickly when someone is done eating in. Customer service was eh. No one looked happy at all or was welcoming people in. The food took a few minutes to get ready and oh my goodness it was sooo good. I'm a picky eater and picked a random sandwich which was the So Cal chicken sandwich and it was delicious . It also came with a mini salad. I'd come back for that sandwich.

Absolutely love this place as a fresh and healthy option to your typical fast food place. It's always fresh with robust flavors and made specifically for you when you order. We came a couple of years back and then recently for a Yelp event and have been coming every week is so since that event. The place is very calming with low level relaxing music and the perfect temperature for me (a little cold for the wife). The restaurant is always clean including the restrooms which is a rarity to find in any restaurant in town. The staff are great and even bring your order to the table for you.

This place is awesome! I have been eyeballing Urban Cafe for sometime now and I finally got to try them for lunch. Dropped by around 2:30pm and they were not busy at all. I was helped right away but their friendly staff and recommended I try the Pastrami sandwich. Their recommendation did not dissapoint! Their sandwiches are freshly crafted and it shows. Great quality sandwiches served with a really great side salad. Honestly I loved it! Would have to rate my meal a 9/10. Got a chocolate chip cookie to go with it and I loved how soft and warm it was! Cookie was a 10/10. Resteraunt was super clean when I went in and I loved the decor of the resteraunt. Super modern. Overall, can't wait to come back and try something else! I'm officially an Urban Cafe fan. Till next time!

I definitely have a love for The menu & selection @ Urbane Cafe. I actually eat there more than any human would like to admit. Cannot go wrong with the roasted turkey club and mandarin salad. Im literally obsessed with the dressing and quite honestly... no other balsamic measures up to it. (Please bottle for us that would love to enjoy on ALL salad!) and the Keto Cobb Salad is another BIG favorite of mine. Not on a Keto Diet.. it's just the perfect Cobb salad! Period! Don't sleep on the soup & salad either! The tomato bisque with a full sized mandarin salad is such a great healthy option for quick & on the go. Just learned about rewards program. Cannot WAIT to take advantage of that, especially with this being part of my dietary routine at least 3-4 times per week. The inside is very chill, relaxing, ambient lighting. The employee (Rosie) I had pleasure of dealing with on my last trip there was Such a sweetheart!?! I'm pretty sure I "checked in" at the one on California but I was at the one on Mt. Vernon I think? By the Smart & Final (in front of S&F) super affordable, extremely healthy, super satisfying, delicious (everytime) & can't get much better than that in my book. A FOREVER Fan of Urbane Cafe.

Love this place! Great salads and sandwiches which makes it hard to decide. So get both!! Order up front and find a seat. Service is quick. Cilantro chicken salad is my most favorite!! Southwest Chicken sandwich is my second favorite!! Don't forget to get the white chocolate cranberry cookie. Amazing!!!

Ordered the cranberry turkey Brie sandwich, kettle chips, focaccia with the dipping sauce and chocolate chip cookies. Everything was amazing! The focaccia was so soft and fresh, the sandwhich was so tasty. Tasted like a light Thanksgiving sandwhich. The arugula was fresh and the cranberry was a perfect blend of sweet and tart. Now let's talk about the chocolate chip cookies. They were warm and gooey, tasted homemade. I wish I had ordered more of them. Staff was friendly and greeted me. The restaurant was clean and the vibe is laid back. If I had more time I would have dined in. I will definitely be back and will order at least 3 more cookies.

The Cafe bowl with gluten free focaccia was delicious. The gf focaccia serving was large!My husband had the Peanut Bowl and enjoyed it. My mother in law ordered the Tofu Banh Mi and she started eating it before we realized it was chicken. The staff argued that she ordered the Chicken but she hasn't eaten meat in 13+ years. After arguing with her, they offered to remake the sandwich but she declined. Then she had to ask for her money back. That was a very disappointing experience. The bathroom was very clean.

I attended a Yelp event on February 22, 2025 at approximately 8:00 pm. The cashier greeted us upon arrival and went through the menu and made some delicious recommendations. We ordered the fish sandwich and it didn't disappoint. It consisted of baked barramundi, crispy onions, housemade apple coleslaw, pickled onions, tartar sauce. Served with Urbane side salad. Everything tasted fresh and paired well. The Urbane side salad was my favorite part of the meal. Dressed perfectly and would definitely order a full salad next time. The other sandwich ordered was the Pastrami Tri Tip pastrami tri tip, swiss cheese, remoulade aioli, housemade apple coleslaw, bread and butter pickles. Served with a side of Golden Mustard and the Urbane side salad. The sandwich was very flavorful and meat was tender. I preferred this sandwich over the fish sandwich. The bread was very soft on both sandwiches; ingredients were fresh and of good quality. We also ordered cookies with our meal. The cranberry white chocolate was our absolute favorite. Cookies were served warm. Crisp edges with soft centers, perfect. We also sampled the chocolate cookie, it was delicious but not my favorite. Restaurant was very clean and organized. Restrooms were fully stocked. I recommend The Urbane Cafe

I really like this place, Clean location, generally quiet inside with a great soda bar and drink area and plenty of seating inside and out , Food : I had the turkey cranberry Brie sandwich, and my kid had the Fish sandwich and both were very good. Honestly, it was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time, turkey was warm on my sandwich. I haven't had that in a while, easily comparable to my favorite spots back in the day in Bakersfield. The sandwiches were the highlight, but then I discovered the craft soda bar and the selection of cookies. If I am being picky.. I personally prefer a chopped salad, the leaves in the salad were too big for my liking (I guess I could have cut it more myself) but that's more work anyway moving on. The sandwich and side salad meal was big enough that I didn't, my bad (couldn't) eat the cookie so I waited until I got home about 2 hours later to eat the cookie, when I tell you warming up the cookie in the air fryer 450 for 2 minutes or microwave ( 12 -15 seconds on high ) was a game-changer. It would do you well to go pay them a visit & take a friend. Urbane Cafe has officially become my new go-to sandwich spot whenever I'm in the area.

This is a place that we will definitely visit again and again. Fresh, clean interior. Ample seating inside and out. Friendly staff and good food. We ordered and were served within minutes. We had the citrus tuna salad and the club sandwich. The orange vinaigrette for the salad gives it a fresh and unique taste. Citrus tuna, mixed greens, tomatoes, avocado, cucumbers, pickled red onions with citrus vinaigrette. It's served with Fresh Baked Focaccia Bread. The sandwich had roasted turkey, flavorful Applewood-smoked bacon, avocado, cheddar cheese, sliced tomato, green leaf lettuce and, herb aioli. Quite tasty and filling. It came with a side salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. You'll want to ask if you can get extra dressing as maybe a dip for your sandwich or just double drench your salad. It's that good. For dessert, we had two of their fresh cookies. The oatmeal raisin was soft, chewy and warm. The chocolate with white chocolate chips was rich and sinful. Overall it was a great lunch experience. It was during their "soft opening" so it wasn't crowded but as I went by today, they had quite a line for their grand opening but, it was moving fast. I recommend Urbane Cafe for a nice meal and I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu. read more

History

Established in 2003.

It all started in 2003 when owner Tom Holt realized there was a missing niche in the Ventura restaurant scene. He wanted a great sandwich and salad, something different, while still being dedicated to delicious-tasting food. He understood that every great sandwich starts with the freshest of bread, so he designed the cafe around a hearth oven. Working with his friend Pete, they came up with a bread recipe that was soft, delicious and baked fresh, right in front of your eyes. It didn't stop there though, he created a menu centered around locally sourced ingredients, juicy-roasted meats, and crafted sauces to give each creation its own unique flavor. Urbane Cafe loves being the place where friends, family, and communities gather to celebrate and make memories over delicious food. Our passion is to have our guests walk out happy every time and keep them coming back for more.

Meet the Business Owner: Tom H.

Tom Holt is the owner, founder and Chief Bread Head of Urbane Cafe. As a young child Tom developed a love for motocross racing. His first career was at the age of sixteen when he became a professional motocross racer. In 2003, Tom Holt's vision was to bring a great-tasting, healthy, and affordable sandwich and salad restaurant to the friendly people of Ventura, California: a nice, small town where he grew up. Urbane Cafe quickly became the gathering place where people meet to engage, relax and enjoy a great meal at a great value. The success of that first location proved that Tom had struck a chord with the local community. Urbane Cafe is all family owned and has continued to expand since 2003 to multiple locations across California.

One of the breaking points for me was being served food that had someone's HAIR. The restaurant is very expensive for the poor experience they have to offer. I stopped recommending them a long time ago.

I tried the Salmon Bowl and it was delicious! I don't usually eat mixed grain rice, kale, or sweet potato because they're not exactly tasty. But let me just say, this place? They've changed my perspective on those foods. I ate every last bite. The salmon was perfectly cooked with excellent flavor balance. This is my new salad spot for sure! It's right up there with Sweet Green. And I can't forget the incredible bread that tied the whole meal together. Highly recommend this place for hearty salad lovers. read more

Great service and the food is awesome! :) The cashers are fantastic and are patient with you when you are placing an order. I have only had the grill cheese sandwich with the side salad, but it tastes so good i've came back three times to order the same thing. I was quite surprised that when you check in on yelp they offered me a free sandwich during my last visit. Because of covid-19 i can't rate the restroom or the décor. Prices = they are okay. A little pricy on some items. One cookie is $2.11. read more
