We have been going to Urbane Cafe for a while now (1yr plus) and being someone with Celiac, I always got salads and enjoyed them! Recently, they released GF bread as an option; making all of their sandwiches available to me now in a way they never had before. This might seem small to most, but this changed my options from 2 to 10. Not to mention their GG bread is DELICIOUS. You can also get the side of bread with dipping sauce and make it GF for like $1. I have celiac, diagnosed over 10 years ago and do not get sick when we order takeout from this Urbane; which is almost a weekly occurrence in our household! read more

Great customer service and great food. We were instantly greeted by Marco upon arrival. He was super patient while our party of 4 ordered. We enjoyed: Gourmet Grilled Cheese with house side salad (mixed baby greens, mandarin orange garnish, parmesan cheese, tossed in nutty vinegarette), Santa Maria BBQ Salad with Focaccia Bread, Club Sandwich with house side salad, and Vegan Protein Salad. Everything was very good and we enjoyed it. This place is consistently fresh and makes you feel good. Thanks to Marco & his co-worker, we had a wonderful experience. I rarely assign 5 stars but this place deserves it, hands down! I have been coming to this location since they opened and thought it was about time for a review. This place, regardless of restaurant type, has delivered the most consistent experience, professionalism and quality time after time! One of very few whose value, service and price point remains constant even through the pandemic. Their staff is obviously well-trained and take pride in their location as the courtesy , cleanliness and positive energy shines throughout. Urbane continues to make terrific salads and sandwiches as I learned at this new location in El Cajon. This time however, I went for the Santa Maria BBQ Chicken Salad with Smoked Apple Wood Bacon for about $10. The salad comes with goat cheese but I switched that up with feta cheese and asked for buttermilk blue cheese dressing. Both I felt were a great choice. They really loaded up the salad with the bacon, not that there is any thing wrong with that, given that it was very good, but I wish they would of done the same thing with the chicken. The chicken was terrific. It was very tender and flavorful. The blackberry BBQ sauce was subtle and tasty. I was glad the sauce did not overwhelm the rest of the salad ingredients. The corn & black bean salsa was very nice, the grape tomatoes, and chopped salad slaw mix were great, and even better with their house creamy buttermilk blue cheese dressing. Kaitlin was on the floor and she did a great job with service. She offered cookie samples and asked if one needed anything else. Great service and great food. Oh yes! So good! I hadn't been to Urbane Cafe since the Yelp Elite Event years ago at the Encinitas location. So when I saw a chance to attend the VIP pre-opening party, I jumped on it! I was even able to bring a +1! They had quite a line for the dinner session, so luckily we got there early. It's located in a new center with In n Out, across from Parkway Plaza. Other businesses will be opening soon. They were very generous, and everyone got an entree (salad or sandwich) a drink, and mini cookies. Since there were a bunch of us eating together, some of us shared plates so we could try a bunch of things. We shared the Chimichurri Tri-tip sandwich, BBQ chicken salad, and chicken tortilla soup. I also tried some of my friend's pizza. The BBQ chicken salad is great, has a lot of great ingredients. It's way better than the similar salad at CPK! The steak sandwich was also very delicious, and came with a small side salad. The soup was also good, and since the pizza was very mild, it would be great for kids. They make all of their focaccia in house, and you can tell. They also bake their cookies fresh. We tried the mini versions, so we got to try bitefuls of all of them. They cram a ton of chocolate chips into the classic cookie, so good! They also have lemonade, tea, Coke, and Batch Sodas. I love the Shirley Temple & Black Cherry. If you are in the area (or near another UC location), definitely check them out! Everyone was super friendly, and helpful. A BIG "Shout-out" to my friend Jen G. who gave me the "heads-up" for the event. This was our first time here. The service was great, our server was welcoming and helpful since I told her it was our first time. I chose the turkey, cranberry, and Brie sandwich. Came across Urbane Cafe from a fellow yelper for their opening and I'm grateful for the recommendation and the experience. Upon arrival, there was a line, but the staff had it moving efficiently all while having samples of cookies to try along the way (all of which were great btw). When I looked at the menu, it really struck me as a kind of so-cal menu where you have a lot of fresh options and a variety of sandwiches, salads, and other lunch options. Really liked seeing all the fresh ingredients being prepared behind the counter and the freshly baked breads and cookies as well. We ended up going with the Ahi Tuna salad and Chimichurri steak. Both were flavorful, filling and fresh! I like how the sandwich orders still come with salad on the side too. Katlyn was amazing about helping decide which sweet treat cookie to get Snickerdoodle cookie was the best I have had yet. Very professional and kind staff. This shop is on my list of favorites. This is one of our go-to places, whether its to dine-in, order to-go, or get it delivered. All of their menu items are delicious, but mine and hubby's favorites are the Bella Portabello and the Santa Maria BBQ sandwiches! They also have a new drink, a Dragon Fruit agua fresca which is pretty refreshing. Daughter's a big fan of their kid's pizza and their PB&J sandwich. Don't forget about their homemade fresh cookies. My favorite favor is the Cranberry White Chocolate cookie. The staff are always friendly, establishment is always nice and clean, and the ambience is perfect! The cilantro salad is basically just mixed greens and boiled chicken? At least, that is what it tastes like. On the menu, it sounds delicious, grilled marinated cilantro chicken, corn, black beans, avocado, cheese and cilantro dressing. What could go wrong? Except when they give you 4 corn kernals, never saw a black bean, the avocado is brown and mushy, oops, did we say cheese, just kidding, no cheese and the dressing was actually tasty. The most frustrating is that the chicken tasted and looked like boiled or can chicken. There was zero flavor, no indication that it was grilled, it may have been processed chicken? Either way, if you're looking for a tasty salad for lunch, I would avoid this one. I've had other things at Urbane Cafe that have been good but this was not one of them. read more
