Came to Oxnard on a business trip for a week. One of my local coworkers recommended for me to try this spot. I arrived after work went to the counter and watched a cashier spend a long time concerned about stacking the little units they have to let you when your order is ready. I mean I'm standing there and she is oblivious to me standing there. She is just stacking and restacking the units. I see her coworker who is cooking the bread staring at her, but never did the cashier look up. I asked to speak to the Manager and he just stared at me too when I explained my frustration. Just said ok. Those units must be very valuable. At least more valuable then this customer. I don't care how great the food may be, customer service has be on point too. read more

We were in Oxnard for business on 7/1 and decided on Urban Cafe for lunch as there would something tasty for everyone. That store was hoppin' with inside customers and to go orders. The focaccia was awesome today, and our order came out in 6 minutes. The rack had over 25 orders for pick-up and all indoor and outdoor tables were full. There was an expediter working with the preparers. It was a pleasure to watch the coordination and speed with which the food came out to customers. There was also a floor person cleaning & filling who was watching the room for what was next and made it happen. I share this because speed, accuracy, and consistent high quality is a pleasure to watch in action and deserves recognition for a job well done. This is not the norm in my local Urban Cafes and far surpasses any customer service I have experienced since pre-COVID. WELL DONE OXNARD!!! My team and I will be back. I used to love coming here! Good salads and tasty sandwiches but the portions have definitely become smaller and smaller! I paid $2.25 for extra meat and it was literally 6 pieces of tri trip in the small container. On a previous mobile order, I had ordered a cookie and it was hard. I was surprised since they usually have them fresh. When I brought it up to the cashier, I asked for a fresh one and she looked so upset haha The food is good but it's a hit or miss with their service. I had the Abbots Salad and ordered it to go. The creamy chipotle dressing did not seem right though. I opened it 10 minutes after I purchased the salad. I poured it on my salad and it poured out like water. I looked in the cup and the thick stuff was stuck in the cup. Somehow it separated. I love Urbane Cafe and have been to this location a few times with no issues. Today, I ordered a socal chicken sandwich for delivery and wasn't pleased. The greens in the side salad were so bitter that I couldn't eat them. The lettuce on my sandwich was extremely soggy. The cheese was charred and appeared as though they scraped half of it off... pretty hard to get past the burnt cheese taste. The avocado was already brown (which not a huge deal.. I still ate that, but it doesn't seem as though they used fresh ingredients. Or this sandwich was made prior to my ordering and had sat out) . The overall sandwich was so small for almost $15. Additionally, I requested Dr.Pepper and was sent Root Beer (again, not a big deal.. but being pregnant, I can't stomach certain things, and apparently RootBeer is one of them). One of my favorite places to stop by for a quick lunch. My favorite is the SoCal sandwich, it always hits the spot. Parking can be pretty tricky here around lunch and dinner times, so I recommend calling in your order and parking in some of the designated spots in the front of the restaurant. read more

My husband ordered today and the delivery service they used only picked up HALF of my order. I called to speak to a manager who conveniently not there. So far I have tried the Santa Maria and Tri Tip BBQ sandwiches and both were very tasty. If I had to choose between the 2 of them is get the Santa Maria (chicken). All of their sandwiches come with a salad; not bad for only $10. In addition, if you check in on yelp, you can receive a free warm cookie. I chose the chocolate chip and it was very good; warm and soft. The personnel were all friendly and attentive. The place is also well kept. Sometimes I want a huge burger for dinner, sometimes I want something a little lighter for dinner...when I do I come here. I have always had amazing meals at Urbane Cafe...tonight it became a little better. I have always ordered my Gourmet Grilled Cheese (with no tomatillo sauce) but it comes with the house side salad which I have never been the biggest fan of. Tonight they informed me that you have your choice of sides and I ordered fruit (I think you might be able to order chips as well.). So tonight I ended up with a Gourmet Grilled Cheese and a side of mandarin oranges mixed with pears. At the end of a long day it really was the perfect dinner. I have to say, I have been in Ventura since I was 9 years old and my family has been coming to urbane cafe since it opened up as "urban" cafe. We love the sandwiches but I also love the salad that comes with it. I moved to Charlotte for work about 7 months ago and came back for Thanksgiving so I was looking forward to eating at all my favorite VTA spots. I was utterly disappointed to find that Urbane cafe has dramatically reduced the size of the house salad and dressing cup that come with the sandwiches. One of the only salads that I actually enjoy. Furthermore, the sandwich which I was looking so forward to eating was severely lacking ingredients which has never happened before. I'm normally full with one half a sandwich and the salad. I feel like I'm just eating bread! There are like no black bean corn salsa or chipotle aioli. Seriously disappointed in my super bland sandwich, shame on you Urbane Cafe, I used to love the way you treat your customers. I gave a 2nd star for nostalgic purposes. :( read more

This is morelike a 3.5 stars rather than 4...I've been here a couple of times and the food is good, so all my stars go towards the food. I've had their sandwiches and Tomatoe bisque soup. All has been tasty and very well put together. Their Rosemary chicken sandwich has a lot of flavor and not too heavy. The bread is thin and nice toasted. I've also had the bbq chicken sandwich and it was also good, not the best sandwich I've ever had but still good and at a reasonable price. Their house salad goes well with the meal. The tomatoe soup is ok, I've honestly had better. I had it on a rainy day so it satisfied my craving for soup (Fresh and Fab. was closed that day). THe rest of the menu looks interesting and I will probably go back to try other items. What it's so un-inviting about this place is the location and overall feel of the restaurant. It is located at a strip mall in one of the busiest areas of Oxnard. It just doesn't give your that relaxed feel you want when you walk into a "cafe". I do not know what it is, their interior is not cozy, it kind of feels like any other fast food place. Maybe it's just me but I do not want to feel like I'm eating at a taco bell. It does not seem like the owner put much though into decoration when they opened this place. Regardless of the restaurant's decor and location it is still a good option. I recommend it to anyone who is a sandwiches and soups kind of person. If I am not too lazy to drive to Nature's Grill and Fresh and Fab is closed, this will be the next best thing. read more

3 stars for Unwelcome Distraction My husband & I had a late lunch on June 8, 2013. As we were eating our lunch inside, a man approached us asking us for a donation for a charity I cannot remember. (Might be a bogus charity). Come on! Don't bother me, I'm eating! (I thought to myself). Of course, we told him "No". Would be nice for the management to post a "No Soliciting" sign outside & inside Urbane Cafe. Some people show no respect for others who are trying to dine in without outside distractions like I just mentioned. I did tell one of the employees about the unwelcome distraction. She said she didn't see the guy. Goes to show these solicitors are sneaky & show no respect for others who are trying to eat in peace. Been a fan of this place since their first store in Ventura. It hasn't lost its mojo since expanding to other locations. What makes it so great? Let's start with the fresh baked hearth oven bread! Fresh greens, deli-cious meats, hand crafted sauces. And then the creative recipe hand crafted combos. So good! Even the water is artisan variety. Disappointed as i write this! Stopped by for lunch today after placing an order through Door Dash as i was in a hurry like most people still working during the pandemic. I show up and see that they have a sign out front that states to call them for Curb Side Delivery, great! I call twice - no answer! Okay? So i get out and wait in a long line of about 6 people only to get to the cash register where a rude little girl quickly cuts me off as I'm telling her i have a to-go order and tells me to go around back for it. That's interesting because there's no signs indicating that this is your process? I went around back and picked up my food from a gentleman who greeted me very kindly, so thank you sir for that! A little disappointing to be honest. My best friend works at Urbane Cafe in the LA County and speaks great things about their service. I just moved to Ventura County this year and decided to try out Oxnard's Urbane Cafe location. The food is great. I have only ordered online for pickup, but when i get there, i'm not greeted. They just stare at me waiting if i'm going to walk to the register to order or walk to the pickup rack. My order was not on the pickup rack so i waited patiently at a table waiting for them to add more orders to the rack but nothing. I waited a good 10 minutes before going to the cashier since my order on the app said it was completed by then and she laughs and said they put it in the wrong rack (doordash). the employees were just standing there talking to each other and laughing. I get home just to find that i have a missing item in my order that i paid extra for. if they have time to talk and laugh, they have time to make sure every order is correct and placed on the correct rack. I never feel welcome when i go pick up. i just get stared at as im walking to the pickup rack like if im going to take someone else's order. Won't be returning to that location. read more

I absolutely love Urbane Cafe but for whatever reason, the food here does not taste like it does at other locations it lacks flavor. I have also noticed that they tend to be skimpy with their ingredients, sometimes I get more bread than anything else. Whenever I do crave it I sometimes take a chance and come here hoping that the food will be good, that is not always the case.
