Came here for restaurant week and I was pleasantly surprised! The food here was really good and the the deal was amazing. On the Houston restaurant week menu you can even pair each course with a special cocktail. My only criticism is that the chips that came with the guacamole were super hard. Let me start with the positive. Service was great and friendly. We sat outdoors, and it was a great atmosphere. The food was... good. Nothing bad, but nothing great. I had a pork dish and my friend had mole chicken. He reported the chicken was on the high side of pretty good. The pork was just pretty good... maybe the highlight on my plate was the black rice. We got some chips and guacamole, too and... good, not great. It is hard to write a review these days without saying somewhere, "It is really expensive.." That definitely applies here. This place is located in a little area with a bunch of other restaurants nearby/attached. You can quickly park valet or look for a spot, which can be a little hard on weekend nights and the walk was kind of long, I'll probably valet next time. The interior is very cute, spacious and open. There's tons of seating options as well as a bar. The hostesses were nice and got us sat right away. They don't give you chips and salsa which is always a punch in the gut but that's ok. The sangria was pretty good for only $9 and a couple things off the sides/appetizers/idk it's all in Spanish lol menu and they hit the spot. We were totally satisfied and a light meal for 2 people with a drink for $49 seems fair to me. It was good though, not great. So glad I finally made it to happy hour at Urbe! Table service was great and it was easy to get a table around 5:30 pm on a Friday. I got a classic margarita with tajin- the waitress brought out the shaker and shook it in front of us then poured it in the glass, which is a new thing they're doing. The marg was really excellent- very fresh lime flavor and not too sweet. It was pretty strong too. My friend and I shared the Plato de botano, which was $32 and a perfect amount of good for 2 people. It has a nice variety of things to try, including tacos, gorditas, taquitos, and elote (my favorite). Everything is delicious. This is definitely a more upscale version of Mexican street food so prices reflect that, but it's executed well and the happy hour menu has a lot of variety. read more

A very nice experience in the Galleria/Post Oak area. I went with a big group of friends and we sat outside on a nice weather day. I had the tostadas de camaron, caracal with cream cheese and had a chocolate croissant to go. the food is tasty! I do wish they had actual servers come to the table instead of having to go order your food inside. The menu is a square scan which I understand saves them from having to give out physical menus etc. It's pretty much self serve so be prepared. You will have to go get your own water. Heard that this place finally opened up in Uptown Park so decided to check it out. I loved the atmosphere. It was a very modern and chic Mexican place. You can tell that a lot of effort went into the decor and vibe. Unfortunately, this place is new and very busy at the moment so had to sit at the bar. I didn't mind but getting attention of the bartenders was difficult. They were so busy that they barely make any eye contact. They were friendly and attentive once they were taking your order though. I ordered the Pecho De Res. The brisket was very well smoked and very juicy. The salas went well with the brisket and the cactus salad. Over all, it was a greatly balanced and delicious meal. I didn't even use the tortillas (because I knew I would get full fast). Margarita was bomb. I'd say I've only had such a great marg only at a few places. Their mix is great. Had heard so much hype about this restaurant so really wanted to come by and try it! Came for dinner for HRW. Tried the panuchos de cochinita pibil, pescado mextlapoque, and tres leches. The first course was okay, the masa was a bit dry and the pork lacked flavor. The main entree was pretty good, fish was fresh but bland, liked the side veggies a lot though. Went for brunch. Solid meal. You get seated and then go order at the counter. Nice large outdoor seating area. I would say we started with the chicharron, but everything came out at once. The chicharron was okay; comes with salsa and guacamole. Just wasn't doing it for us. I had the tacos de birria which were very solid. Three decent size tacos and very tasty. Wish there was a little more consume. The wife did the chilaquiles which were different as they were stuffed, but very good. I would get this next time for sure. Another stellar restaurant from Chef Hugo Ortega. While the atmosphere is more relaxed and casual, the food, drinks, and presentation is still on par with Hugo's, Caracol, Xochi, etc. The restaurant just opened and is only serving breakfast and lunch from Tuesday through Friday and Brunch on Saturday and Sunday (no dinner service yet as of September 2021). We went for brunch and got a few Mimosas to start. They were very fresh! We ordered the Huarache which consisted of carnitas, an egg, beans, and salsa (similar to chilaquiles). Then the Queso Flameado which had Brisket, melted cheese, onions, and peppers and is served with tortillas. On the side we had the Papas Bravas which were large potato wedges with queso fresco. The taquitos and the plantain was a game changer! Everything looks great! We also had the quesadilla, it was just ok, the cheese in it was phenomenal though. The ambiance was amazing, staff is friendly, place is aesthetic. I have a gluten allergy so I can't have most of the meat or the menu because they marinade the meat with beef. :( I wish they had more gluten free options, I hope they take that in consideration. I LOVE this new casual concept by Hugo Ortega! All of his restaurants are wonderful (Xochi may be my favorite), but it's so refreshing to have this new casual restaurant. We went to brunch, which was counter service, and ate outside on the nice patio. I ordered the barbacoa taco plate and was expecting three little tacos, but three GIANT tacos came out and were just perfection. Loved it, really. I was super excited about this place. Walked over here since my favorite Thai place was closed. Sat down got a margarita (she forgot the jalapeño I asked for and my water) the bartender got me a lunch menu, I ordered with brisket. Been wanting to check out Urbe and ended up doing a to go order which was simple and hassle free. I got an order of the pastor tacos and an order of the pulpo tacos. Both were very good-it was hard to decide which was the better of the 2! The pulpo was tender and well seasoned. I also loved the sautéed onions and peppers to complement the taco. The pastor was really flavorful and the pineapple with the onion and cilantro is always my favorite. I would highly recommend both! I also got a horchata latte which was ok-an uneven ratio of horchata and espresso so I basically just tasted horchata. For dessert, I got the tres leches banana pudding which was a hit and the flan. Award winning Chef Hugo Ortega did it again! Grateful to have this gem close to home. My Dad had a Bloody Mary and a huarache- both were TREMENDOUS. I got the Kalimoxto, haven't seen it anywhere else, it was tasty. I got the chicken flautas ("tacquitos") and they were really good too. We asked for a spicy salsa and they brought us this phenomenal red habanero salsa. Papas Bravas were seasoned well, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I love myself some authentic Mexican food. The place is colorful, open and warm. For drinks, the urbe Rita, is delicious, I would highly recommend it. It's made with agave nectar versus simple syrup, which I prefer. For food, I wanted to try their tacos, so we ordered the barbacoa tacos. First, let me say don't expect authentic, so now that we have that out the way, I wouldn't say it's horrible. They give you a good amount of meat and the tortillas are made in house. I just prefer my tacos to taste like they do at the Michoacána. But if you've never been there, then you might actually like these. :) I will be back to explore other dishes. read more
