Our first visit in. We've walked by so many times and they're always busy so we finally made a visit for breakfast. This place is a gem in the heart of old town Orange. We had the Italian omelette, latkes, and banana waffle. The food was delicious and full of flavor!Their specialty coffee drinks are so artful and unique as you would hope with a non-chain place. The atmosphere inside an historic building is really cool and the hidden patio seating between buildings is another gem. We will return for sure. read more

The staff is super friendly and helpful with items on the menu. The food at Urth Caffé is delicious with so many great options. My omelette was perfectly cooked and my potato Latkes were delicious. My mocha mint was super tasty. I usually get the Spanish latte but I'll definitely be ordering this drink now. The inside decor is beautiful. I came into urth Caffé around 12:15. I have two types of opinions with Urth Caffé: one specifically to this local location, and Urth Caffé in general. Here is what I thought- [ PROS + ] ‣ The atmosphere is just, top notch. Urth Caffés are in general atmospherically rich but this location is the brickier, industrial, more urban-y hipster sibling of the franchise. Unlike other Urth Caffés, they are more reliant on indoor seatings, and it actually feels wide and spacier. ‣ What's not to mention their food. They taste better than most places I've went to, but in detail, I personally recommend Urth Pot Roast Beef Sandwich (~ $16.50) for food, Thai Tea Ice Boba (~$5.50) for drinks, and Napoleon Cake or Chocolate Crown Cake for dessert (their flourless Chocolate Cake is true art as well, but not my personal favorite). ‣ They keep their temperature well-adjusted here. It never got too cold or too hot for me, so I now don't even bring a jacket anymore cause I trust them. If it does get too cold they have a customized bar table with fire in the middle. I don't know if it's a mental phenomenon but even seeing that thing makes me feel better. ‣ I know this is SUPER trivial but most of the time, Urth Caffé will pull some crazy twists with their water station and add in strawberries, oranges, flowers, watermelons, and cucumbers. The variation will differ by location and by day, but man, am I a big fan of this. Sometimes they'll put a normal water station next to that one- even better. ‣ They close later than most cafés, something I really, really need. [ CONS - ] ‣ If you go to cafés for laptops, Urth Caffé in general sucks at providing outlets. This location has the most out of all locations, but I managed to just spot three wall outlets in the sea of probably hundreds of seats. A smaller boulangerie right across called Pandor Bakery and Café will suit you far better if you need outlets: they have a lot more. ‣ Another franchise-in-general negatives... the parking. Personally I feel this branch has the most lenient parking spaces as well, but still... Old Orange is in general a very packed location when the sun is up, so it's still difficult. Unlike most Urth Caffé locations however you can actually manage to attempt parking without paying fee..! But they're all 2-3 hours timed parking :( ‣ Back to food... two things. They may seem like they have a lot of food on their menu but when the categories are organized as sandwiches, signature sandwiches, panini sandwiches, entreés that seems not so far off from sandwich material and pizza, you're not gonna feel so good getting bloated from all those carbs... ‣ ... but if you're on a budget that won't be a problem after all- their menu can seem like a rip-off moneywise. Expensive. I have to get cautious not getting too ambitious with their plates, cause try to have a single meal and a drink and you're already spending a $20. I'm a college student, so I mean, that's tough for me. ‣ Urth Caffé's internet in general. It's not bad, it's just that every 20~30 minutes you gotta reconnect cause they disconnect out of nowhere so often. It kinda tickles your patience a bit and it can quickly get annoying. ‣ The service here as you can hear from all the other critics on here... it's sub-par. It doesn't bother me too much, but it is true that the wait time after you ordered your meal and the mistakes they make bringing you your food is noticeable and disappointing. With the rate of a solid 100% out of my dozens of visit, I never had a case where the waitress bought my orders without mistake. But, I have never had a case where the staff there were rude. They may be slow and make mistakes but they were always hospitable when I issued the problem to them. I was never really disappointed as a result. ‣ Restroom is surprisingly small- just one toilet. Like, I don't get the logic of this. - - - Overall, the pros for me were very strong whereas the cons I can live with them. This location for certain I would come again. Hope this helped. read more

This place has way too many customers for what it can churn out service-wise. You'll probably stand in line for 20 minutes to order. It's also extremely loud, especially when the table cleaners come around and clang items as they set dishes in tubs. Food can be expensive as heck-- depends on how much you value a $4 croissant. A boba tea is $7 to $8. Over 3 years of living in the area, I've come to dislike the place more and more. Last point: we ordered a piece of cake one night to-go; while we were waiting for them to slice and box it up, we sat down. This place is a mixed bag. First off, the food is delicious. I went over the weekend and got the crab cake Benedict and a chai latte. It was amazing, zero complaints. However, they forgot to bring parts of the order for 3 out of the 6 people in my party. Drinks were forgotten, toast, pastries, a side dish...very disorganized. And there were long wait times between portions being brought to the table. Half our group got their drinks, then a couple got some food, then a few more drinks, then more food, then the missing items. By the time everyone actually had everything, it was all cold. We had to ask for some of the missing items multiple times. And the people at the register didn't give us a receipt. Now, the waiting process. SO BADLY THOUGHT OUT. I know they have the same process at their other locations, but at least in Laguna the layout makes sense for the wait in line, order at the counter set up. Here, it's really, really inconvenient. There isn't nearly enough seating, but you don't know that until you've already placed your order, so if you can't find a seat, you're kind of boned. The line takes forever, and they make you wait outside in one line before letting you inside to wait in another line, because there's only room for a couple of groups at a time. Such a dumb setup. They really should have separate lines for dine-in and for takeout orders - it would make everything run so much more smoothly, and they'd have much happier customers. There are signs on the tables that ask you to not sit longer than 45 minutes when it's busy, but it's not at all enforced. When we got there, there was a group of 4 girls taking up a table that could seat 6. They were already done with their food, and were just sitting there. They were still there after my group had found seats, been served (which took forever), and eaten. If you're going to have those rules, try to enforce them, since there's not enough seating as it is. It looks like there's an upstairs, but I was there during the morning/brunch rush on Saturday and they had it roped off. Maybe if that was available seating wouldn't be so stressful? Also, in the main dining room, the bulk of the room is taken up by a weird fireplace counter thing. They really should have just put in more tables - they could easily seat twice as many people. Such a bizarre choice. So - the layout is poorly planned, both in seating and in ordering. The staff appears stressed out. The "rules" of hogging seating are not enforced. The wait time is way too long. The serving staff is disorganized, and there seems to be a clear lack of communication. But, like I said, the food is good. I'd recommend getting some drinks and pastries to go. Even though the food was good, the experience of it sucked. read more

The line can get a bit busy depending on what time/day you go, but that should provide more than a enough time to choose from the menu's wide selection. This is by far my favorite place to eat. I love it so much that I typically eat here at least three times per week. I think their breakfast menu is the bomb! Fresh buttermilk pancakes with real butter and 100% maple syrup are amazing. I like to stuff mine with fresh bananas or raspberries or any other type of berries depending on my mood. Eat that with a side of crisp bacon and you will be in heaven. My second favorite item is the salmon Benedict. It's always perfectly done, though it's served on potato latkes rather than English muffins. I love this change of pace. For something very different, I'm dig the Sunrise Breakfast Pizza. This is served with pancetta, sausage, potatoes, and topped with a soft-boiled egg. Delish! For lunch or dinner, Diablo paninis and quesadillas are my favs, though I am also into their chicken and clam chowder soups. Be sure to leave room for their amazing desserts. Their tiramisu is better than many of the Italian restaurants I've had. I love love love their hazelnut chocolate cake. Absolutely fantastic. Warm sticky buns, pistachio chocolate croissant, citrus Ginger scones, and matcha green tea tiramisu are a few of my favorite desserts here. Increible! The staff here are amazing. They go out of their way to ensure I get my meals exactly the way I want them. Almost everybody here has taken the time to learn and greet me by my name. Most of the time they also say goodbye using my name. This is a really nice touch that makes me feel at home every time I come here. I want to single out certain people who have been especially amazing in my frequent visits here. Specifically, Andrew, Eduardo, Stephanie, Jan, Nellie, Elvira, Jacob, Amanda, and Haley are fantastic. Friendly, welcoming and eager to please, they make me feel right at home. Infact, this is now my go-to home away from home. The only drawback is limited parking during lunch hours. But City of Orange now offers free covered parking in a garage located only two short blocks away. So my days of hunting for a parking space for 5 or 10 minutes are over! Yay! read more

Every time I had gluten free bread, I felt queasy afterwards. I asked a question regarding the ingredients of the gluten free bread on yelp and I received a reply from a business owner. I got the Grilled Cilantro Chicken Pesto sandwich. There was barely any lettuce. The side salad is just mixed greens and one cherry tomato. The portion size just doesn't match the prices.
