We came here to apply for a new passport for our 5yo son. Yes, the first one is always in person and both parents need to show up. You can type in most of the paperwork ahead of time via Department of State's forms (complete and print). Schedule an appointment for a 30-min slot at this USPs and voila, all done. Dean was super friendly and especially helpful. Some tips: 1. You need to submit both the original birth certificate and photocopy. The US State Dept will mail the original back to you after the passport. 2. Both parents need to show drivers license, and you need to submit photocopies of both front and back. 3. Bring personal checks for the passport fee ($100). For the USPS fee ($35) they take cash, credit card, and check. 4. Lastly, and very important is that there is no onsite restroom. If your toddler really needs to go, they have super clean bathrooms in the lobby of Rock Church next door. We were extremely lucky it was open on a Saturday morning with lots of people. read more

We met one of the most kind hearted post office staff at Danville post office. Her name was Anna and she let us apply for a passport for our four year old daughter when I didn't know the passport processing center opened half hour earlier than the post office, and only took 4 walk ins. Another staff told us to drive to Pittsburg post office, which would have taken us 1.5 hrs roundtrip. Thank you so much Anna for making our day! EXTREMLY Poor service very unfair NO COMMUNICATION. I came in early to get my passport done I have an appointment came in early. Two people cut infront of me and they took them in very unfair poor service they came in and took my number. PLEASE Don't go here, if you want to be treated good. Very unfair place! Agree with the other ZERO star comments. I am usually not one to leave poor reviews but customer service does not exist at this location. These are the most unhelpful employees I have ever encountered. I came to do a return, and the company had emailed a shipping label. The associate said I had to leave and print the label elsewhere and then come back to mail it out. On another occasion, we shared that we were having issues with our mail forwarding, and an associate just said "there's nothing I can do." Please hire better people who are solution-oriented, empathetic, and kind. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I arrived 5 pm and 30 seconds. Doors were still open and a customer still being serviced. Gentleman at the desk said nope sorry closed. I asked even if I arrived and it's still 5pm and doors are open. Customer service is lacking. My order would have taken 1 min. I rarely write reviews, but If I could leave zero stars, I would. I was 5 minutes EARLY for a 11:30 passport appointment, but admittedly 5 minutes later than the requested 10 minute early arrival. I apologized to the clerk at the window. She said she'd go back and ask if Kumar would still see me. Having agreed to do so (I assume), she returned and asked me to please wait at the 2nd window. During the 15 minute wait for Kumar, the clerk helped me mail a package. Lovely woman. When Kumar came out, twice I apologized before he said I would have to make a new appointment. The clerk tried to intercede and let him know that I was there ahead of the scheduled appointment. By that time I wasn't having any of it from him. The clerk tried to help me make another appointment and let me know that another PO was available for walkins. I'd give her 5 stars for her efforts, but Kumar the passport czar gets 0. Will definitely not be going here again. I'd drive 20 miles out of my way to find another post office. Kumar needs a job that doesn't involve meeting with customers. I suspect this is not the first or second time Kumar has demonstrated poor customer service skills. New appt in San Ramon next week. read more

Dean was amazing! I had the best experience I've ever had at a post office and am so glad I had the honor of being served by Dean. I was literally in and out in less than 15 minutes for my passport photo + renewal appointment; my appointment was at 9:15am, was served promptly, and was back in my car by 9:27am with my photos taken and printed, and my passport renewal packet mailed out. Dean was incredibly polite, informative, and patient, and went out of his way to make my appointment a breeze. Since this post office is near my workplace, I plan on making this my regular post office since I had such a good experience! read more

I always prefer this post office location. It's not as busy as the Dublin or Pleasanton one. Plus, there was never a time having problem with parking spaces. The workers here are friendly and fast. It's always nice when you can get in and out. It is also located on the street going to my work. So, I don't have to go out of my way. read more

I can see why it's not a 5 star (it's USPS, come on) but this one in Danville was a much better experience for us than the one in Pleasanton. We went in for passport services, in and out in 15 mins and everything was listed out very clearly such as the $$, time, options, etc. The layout of this PO looks organized and convenient compared to the Pleasanton one. The staff here much more pleasant than the Pleasanton one. So I have no complaints and thus the fabulous 5-stars!! read more

SIX stars for Dean, 4 for the post office itself. I have lived at the same address in Danville since 1998. Every time Dean has helped me, he is not only courteous (and not ingratiatingly or patronizingly so) but also very helpful. He goes above and beyond to find missing or misdirected packages. He found out what happened to a box I sent to *mainland China* (it had been rejected for stupid reasons). Today he gave me such peace of mind. This past Tue am I sent a box 2 day priority from CA to PA for my daughter's bday on Thu. Then nothing. I got a text Fri saying the box had an incorrect address/zip code and was being redirected, then next day saying it was being delivered somewhere. I called USPS and they could not say where it was being delivered and just put in a ticket. I went to the Danville post office and Dean went to the back to do more research. He came back to show me the sequence of 4 incorrect zip codes through which the box had traveled, but was able to confirm that it was now being delivered to the correct address today. Dean is thorough, kind, empathetic, courteous, and very capable! He deserves a raise! As for the rest of the post office, the other staff is pretty good for the most part; two are kind of rude. The Asian woman is nice. However, the worst thing is that it is understaffed. At lunchtime, and Sat ams, there should be more than 1-2 people at the front. That's when people go to the post office the most. And in December, the lines are often out the door; they don't place more staff at the windows for the holiday traffic! read more

He presented shipping options and packaging options while trying to save you money in the process. Screw this place. There are a few very nice employees here, but more often than not, the staff moves like snails and there is a long line. I'm actually writing this review as I wait in line as 2 employees put the window closed sign up despite the line being out the door. I've been waiting for 20 minutes so far with one window only dealing with passports. I've seen 2 people leave already with there seeming to be no end in sight for this line. There is presently 11 people in line with 1 window open where she has been there for over 10 minutes. There have also been times where their supplies are super low, not even having packing envelopes in stock. The lines and staff not opening an additional window or two to help with the growing line is ridiculous. I will say a plus is they have a large parking lot. read more

This is a government job , the employees are never held accountable for treating customers wrong. The employees are usually rude , horrible customer service and they do not care they just think of the pay check. I have experienced too frequently long lines even during non-holidays periods, frequently rude and apathetic behavior, misdirected and lost mail, recurrent failures to stop mail when requested due to my being on vacation, and in fact, leaving a full bin of mail in front of my front door to signal that I am on vacation, and other negligent USPS safety-related USPS shortcomings to name a few. However, I've recently discovered one reason for USPS Danville's shortcomings: Apparently when you file a USPS Web-based complaint regarding a specific USPS Danville's supervisor's aphetic behavior and failure to take action, the request is sent back to the same supervisor about whom you are complaining! We have eye-witnessed an email coming back stating the case was closed by the same supervisor about whom we are complaining. In seconds the supervisor promptly closes his own derogatory case, sweeps the complaint under the carpet, and pats himself on the back. This is fraud and a conflict of interest. I have reported this to the USPS Inspector General. On the other hand, our postal carriers are mostly very hard working and commendable; regretfully, they have shared with us that the USPS Danville low-level operational leadership there is lacking, poorly or not supervised all, frequently are recent immigrants with poor communication and managerial skills, have no training in American Civics, no training working with the public, no training in Property Rights and Safety, or training on how to ameliorating and resolve disputes. The carriers say they are large the contributing factor and accountable to USPS's looming demise and irrelevance. I'll continue to work to strengthen and provide upward feedback to USPS leadership in the hopes of making our USPS Danville Office relevant and value driven and worthy of the $18 billion gift the US taxpayers provide yearly to USPS. read more

Its Tax night and I can't file online due to the IRS computer being down. (At this point the IRS had not announced they extended the filing date due to the computer issue). I decide to run up to the post office and just mail my tax return instead of filing online. Of course the post office is closed! But surely there must be a sign in the window letting customers know where the nearest post office is that will take your tax return after hours. Of course there is no sign! Ok, Ill search the internet, surely the USPS must have a list of post offices that are open late in my area. Of course they don't! The only list (not from the USPS) is from 2016. For 4 months we have not received all our mail including bills and checks because this PO is incompetent. We initially gave a forwarding address, we came home and changed the address back to our home address in March. They are still forwarding our mail and it is June 30th. We have gone in there numerous times and filled out the correct forms to try to get this corrected to no avail. Not only do they not seem able to correct this they keep blaming us. This is a great little post office, though the entrance off Tassajara is a little tricky to find. I finally figured out that it was the first street West of the Sycamore Valley Park on the North side of the street, and now I never miss the turn! It was built fairly recently, I believe in the 1990's, and the outside has a beautiful rock facing. There is ample parking and they keep the lines moving pretty quickly! You can even buy some mailing supplies there, including padded envelopes of every size, which saves me a trip elsewhere - PLUS I can buy only as many as I need, instead of being stuck with a whole package if I purchase it elsewhere. The workers are always smiling, friendly and efficient, and the air conditioning helps me keep my cool! Win-win! read more

Zero stars for the rudeness of the first clerk I saw. Five stars goes to Baljit, who ended up working with me. Here's the zero: - booked appointment online for passport renewals - got there 10 minutes early per their instruction - lady who greeted me told me that they will help me at 9am, which is when my appointment time is at - while I was there, I asked them about the old fastrak devices I was going to return. They are supposed to be free return postage paid by fastrak. I tried to give it to them in the fastrak return envelope and the lady rudely said that I need to pay for returns even though the envelope clearly said "no postage required". Instead of explaining to me why, she just kept saying, "you need to pay" - after this little argument, it's then 9:10am. No passport clerk. I ask again and they said "she is has not arrived yet." Oh yay. I have an appointment and the clerk is a no show. - then along comes Baljit... Here's the 5 star: - Baljit first explains to me why they cannot accept the fastrak envelope without payment. Apparently Fastrak does not have a proper business reply envelope. Odd that Fastrak would send me an envelope that doesn't work with our US postage system. - then Baljit processed our passports, professionally and with a smile So a zero and a five, average should be 2.5 but there's not 2.5 so I'll round down as it's the facility I'm rating after all and not just one person. Next time I go, I hope I can just deal with Baljit. read more

Don't ship anything with USPS to your house if these guys deliver your packages. It has happened multiple times where my package was not delivered and instead they left a note stating that there was additional postage to be paid. The postage thing is ridiculous, but I could've paid it, but they didn't even knock both times! I know for sure because of cameras and my room is next to the front door. Post office: "Well, make it quick" "Oh... um... if I were to come into a post office today and expedited a delivery, how long would it take to get to me?" "We don't have any appointments today." "Oh, OK, there are some post offices that will do same day walk-ins. Do you know how long it takes to have an expedited passport mailed out?" Since we don't have an outgoing mail box at our apartment and the mailboxes at my work only have pick up Monday through Friday, we needed to find a mailbox in order to get some of our wedding invitations out on Saturday. This place would get negative stars if I could give it!! I went in there early one morning (I wanted to go in as early as possible to make sure there were no delays in sending my letter) asking for delivery dates for a time-sensitive letter that I needed mailed. I was told certain dates by different methods and chose accordingly. My letter didn't arrive on time. When I called to confirm, the manager rudely told me it was in the city, that means delivered. Since when??? It does me no good to have a letter "in the city" when I specifically asked "when will this arrive to this address" I don't have a problem with the infomation I was being given as much as I do with the way the manager was talking to me. Can't believe I am the first to "post" on the main Danville Post Office. Post Offices traditionally known for service as much as the DMV, Danville is one of the huge exceptions. Not since I worked in Palm Beach many years ago where everyone had a post box, no mail delivery, think Carmel, have I been consistently impressed with a post office. Windows? More filled with a post officer than a "vacant sign" Check Extra help to direct traffic in lobby and instruct first timers on how to use the automated parcel mailer during the holidays? CHECK Tons of Parking? CHECK Always friendly and helpful? CHECK, it's like Nordstroms with Walmart prices Where on time and out in 5 minutes for passport appointment? I cant speak for the entire staff. but one woman was rude and nasty. I got in line at the post office at 5:02 I had to walk by this woman who was 'helping' someone else at the time. While standing in line she yelled at me that they were closed. When I asked politely if I could stay, she said no and made me leave. No wonder the Post Office is Billions of dollars in debt!! I took my business to UPS, and they were fantastic. Funny how people can be nasty and keep their jobs because the are 'civil' servants. I use the term 'civil' loosely, in this case. read more

I lived up the road from this post office for many years. What I loved most was that unless it's very near to a holiday, you can most likely expect to spend no more than 5 minutes waiting in line here. I had to take two very small, very "spirited" boys with me too. A lot of it is probably a function of Danville itself and it's pace, but never in the 7 years I lived there did I have an unpleasant experience. I moved to Texas and recently I made the mistake of having a very expensive pair of boots mailed via USPS to my old Danville address. I called the post office, a wonderfully helpful & pleasant man told me he'd send someone there right away to pick up my package and forward to me here in TX. Please, I thought, it's Friday, he wants to go home, my package is lost, I'll never see those boots, etc. I called back Monday & the package was already on its way to me! I love the small town nature of Danville because one expects nothing but a challenge in dealing with the USPS. We made an appointment for a passport - call got thru on first try. The woman who answered was pleasant. I called again the day before the appt - again got thru on the first try and she was pleasant. At our appt we were finished in about 15 minutes - only had to wait about 5 minutes for the appt before us to be done. This was much better than other experiences I've had. read more

If I could give minus stars, this place deserves it. This place is the Achilles heel of living in Danville. And that would be the understatement of the decade. On average, I have about 2 to 3 packages/letters a year that gets "lost." And that's not including the handful of letters that get accidentally put into my neighbor's mailbox. What made me finally write a review is today's visit to the post office to pick up a package sent to me. I went in the morning shortly after it opened. Six other people in line behind me while the one and only employee working the front goes to look for my package. She comes back about 17 minutes (Yes, 17!) later and tells me she cannot find it. By this time, the line has grown to ten people behind me. I ask the employee if someone else can look for it while I wait because we can all clearly hear at least 4 or 5 distinct voices in the back chatting and laughing while who knows what they're doing. But, nope! No one willing to look for my package or come out to the front and help others in line. Tells me I can leave my phone number for whenever they decide to get to it or file a missing package claim (AGAIN!!). This place needs to be overhauled with new employees that are motivated to pretend to work at least. Or just privatize the whole organization. read more
