We were shopping at the Grossmont Shopping Center and were driving in the parking lot when we spotted this US Post Office location. We were excited because it was another thing to cross off our list of errands. We had to mail a package for a friend. We had a care package to brighten up a friend. The line was steady. We were greeted with a smile. We were asked about the different price options. Overall, a very nice and pleasant experience. Plenty of parking. They sell all shipping supplies. I came here around 2pm one afternoon. I was helped by a brunette named Sonnie. I was shipping some packages to to an FPO AP address (aircraft carrier). I had already sent my husband another package from the Santee USPS late July. I used a customs form and had no issues there. Anyway, when I arrived Sonnie looked at the forms and sighed that they weren't accepting these forms as of July 14th, but that she would make an exception. I asked her why not or what the alternative was. Considering I always used the same method to ship care packages, I was confused. I also know someone elderly like my mom isn't able to go online and create a label for shipping purposes. She SHE SUGGESTED EBAY POST. To send a care package??? I was expecting her to say Click n Ship or something. Then my heart sank because she said when people don't pre-print or create the labels, they keep getting the packages sent back. I think ultimately there is some confusion about new policy changes or maybe this person just didn't want to fill out the information for the shipping label. It's wild to think there is a new policy stating labels must be prepaid to send out a package. Again, what about customers who aren't internet savvy? read more

This might be a slowest post office I have ever been to, located right across from Chuck E Cheese, but I didn't see a lot of foot traffic for some reasons, two employees up front were leaning against the counter, being chatty and looking bored, then I read some reviews on their page, I realized a lot of people had customer service issue with the place, and I could see why. I am glad I didn't have a lot to interact with any of them, but maybe it was for the best. read more

There is absolutely no reason why there should only be 1 person working the week before christmas with a line wrapping around the building

I started coming here as my main USPS for a while and everything was decent. This location isn't open on Saturday's though which sometimes made it hard for me to stop here. It is in a large plaza so parking is ample and easy. The store front part is fairly small compared to a lot of other USPS locations. There is almost always a line, like every USPS, but since it is a small store front that means the line is generally smaller but looks longer so I get through it quickly. I have never had a hard time getting my packages quickly stamped and sent on the way. I also get stamps here often because they tend to always have the cute stamps, otherwise I have to order online. Overall, a pretty good location for your USPS needs. read more

Customer service horrible. I waited in line and needed to find out the price before addressing because I needed to decided if I needed to go flat rate. So to check the price she sends me to the side to write it on the envelope. Come to find out it's more expensive and need a flat rate now I need to write the address again because she was impatient and could have checked the price with the envelope! This is by far the worst post office ever!!!!!!!! The asian lady at the front was so rude, don't ma'am me ever!!! Asking me if I'm done I didn't even need the lady's help! Demanding we close at 5 we'll if that's the case why are people still dropping off at 5:15!!!! The lines are not usually long and there is plenty of parking in the lot by Chuck E Cheese. There is a drive thru box in the back if you don't want to get out of your car, too. read more

Convenient to my home. The guy who works there who is a Veteran is great, the older other lady has a massive attitude problem. I'll wait in line longer to get the guy to help me out. The service was okay, but it certainly was not with a smile. They do not have a ATM/Stamp machine so you have to stand in line and wait to buy stamps. That is lame. Customer service does not seem to be their priority. I know they have been hit by cut back, but at least put a machine dispenser out in the lobby. It is time to get with the times..... read more

I had some packages to mail and the lady was so unfriendly and demanding. She demanded to see my business license which made no sense. This had NEVER happened before. Postal Nazis work here. Unless you are waiting for meds next door and have time to kill then this is the place for you. I am a frequent shipper of parcel goods and this has to be the only post office in town where they do not have a parcel drop off area and won't let you set it in the middle counter you must hand it to them (No not required to hand it to a post-pesron if you have prepaid shipping labels). Other fun times- Get yelled at when I take more than one flat rate box like I am using them to move LOL. Always scrutinizing packaging like I do not have enough postage or am trying to rip them off LOL. Lastly lost 3 packages that where all dropped off at the same time to the same employee. Ok...... If i could give this a zero i would. I have never left a business so angry. I actually sat in my car for a good 15 minutes trying to remember and change my password for yelp so i could write a terrible review to save people from this place. I go to the post office every week to mail paperwork for a karate class my boyfriend teaches. Usually i go to copy it on jackson st and they are AMAZING, but i was at grossmont center and thought i would just stop here. WORST. IDEA. EVER. i patiently waited in line and and smiled at the stupid jokes the postal lady was making to the elderly people in front of me. When she got to me she was nothing but rude. Maybe its because i was the youngest person there, but i was nothing but polite in my requests. What i needed was simple. Three envelopes mailed certified and the receipt put in the third envelope to be mailed with the paperwork. She first scolded me for leaving my envelope open, i explained what i needed and she treated me like some sort of idiot. She was very short with me, didn't approve of my handwriting, and at the end of the transaction when i politely asked if she could print two copies of my receipt she said it was impossible and made me leave her counter to take a picture of my receipt for my files, before sealing it in the envelope to be mailed. I have never been treated so disrespectfully by a business in my life. Dont waste your time here. Go to copy it on jackson where they are quick and know a thing or two about customer service. read more

This place has the absolute worst customer service ever. I got there 5 minutes before closing and had to wait in line for the packaging I needed because it wasn't readily available. Then, I waited for 6 minutes listening to the Asian man scream at this lady asking a question only to have the envelopes I needed thrown at me and then they refused to serve me once I was done packaging my items and waited in line again. They said I wasn't there before 5pm when I very obviously was. They were screaming at every person coming in that they were closed and one person just wanted to buy a stamp. I hate how close this location is to my home, but I will never return until better employees are placed. I've gotten better service at McDonald's by teenagers. read more

Let me preface this with the fact that I hated the USPS until they pulled their collective heads out of their giant bureaucratic ass sometime in the late 90s. Before that, I considered the USPS completely useless and worthy of being closed. This is an oldschool painted-brick (or cinder block? I almost never need to send anything physical in the mail, so I can't recall) government building - cold, old, run-down, and it has that patina of having collected the black SoCal dust for decades. It has that lovely ambiance of an old government building (school, prison, DMV, social security, etc) that you envision surviving as an above-average squat after they drop the bomb. You know the kind of place, I guarantee it. Anyhow, the people that man this one are really cool. I go in, I grab a packing envelope (I bought a pack of something like 20 envelopes and 20 forever stamps a couple years ago, but they only handle paper), toss my item in it, wait in a short line, then they're friendly, give me the options really fast, and I'm out. Mind you, I can walk here since I live about a half a block away, so I always do, but I can go in here and be out in 3-4 minutes flat. That rivals any full-service shipping place, and for a lot less. Screw the haters, this is a great post office. read more

Very fast service compared to any of the other post offices I have visited around San Diego. If I would critique one thing, it would be a boost of customer services. The reps seem to be missing friendliness and a smile. I did not experience any rude behavior oersay, but more passive. Ex. I smiled and said have a great day and the clerk didn't reply. It's no wonder the US Postal Service loses money when they hire people that have zero customer service skills. I mailed a package to Shanghai China on December 8 and as of today the 29th the package has still not been received. I go to the USPS website enter my information and the only thing that it shows is that it was received on December 8 and departed the post office at 5:18 PM. OK, where did it go? Supposedly it goes to a sorting facility. That should not be a problem, they should scan and receive the package (or you would think). But, scanning or receipt of the package at the sorting facility so therefore it's lost and did in transit here in the United States somewhere. The website says to go to the actual facility that you shipped the package from. OK, I do that and I am met by Linda at the desk. I showed Linda my screen printed paperwork from the US PS tracking and that it says it departed that location to the short facility and that's all it shows. Her reply to me, "what do you think that I can do?" I can't to do anything more than what you've already done. Hi tell her that the 800 number says to go to the shipping facility that you mailed the package from she goes "I don't know why they would tell you that" Linda tells me that the package might be in transit to Shanghai China as we speak. My problem with that, is they can't tell me that nor do they know that it even was received or shipped out of the sorting facility. After wasting 15 minutes of time Linda decided to ask for my email address and said that someone would notify me when the package was received and Shanghai. But wait a minute, I had already gone onto the website and did that - why would she suggest that again - stupid! Finally said she was not able to answer any questions as to why the package was not scanned at the sorting facility she gave me the number to what she claims to be the postmaster general to the Spring Valley, California office. Now, you would think that she would call him for customer service but no you leave that to the consumer that has already paid the money to ship the package and you have no answers to explain where it is. I'll update this later after I'm able to reach supposedly this postmaster general and see if my problem is resolved at that level. read more

I have to admit that i came to this USPS location worry that i was going to get a really bad service. I had yelp the location and there were really bad reviews. Well the only thing unpleasant that i found about this place was finding it. It's located in the back of the Grossmont center Mall. I thought i was going to find a big line with only one person in the Register. I found the opposite of what i expected. There was no line with two people in the registers. One of the person greeted me right away and asked me if he could help me. He helped me pick the right packaging for my merchandise and suggested a couple options. He explained in details what each one was and gave me his suggestion. To make story short i was in and out of the USPS post office in less than 8 minutes. I was very happy and impress. usps workers are robotic monsters they're rude, mean, and programmed to do their work without being able to help the customers. they don't provide any shipping accessories like duck tape, markers, etc AS YOU HAVE TO BUY IT YOURSELF THERE. furthermore, they moved inside the city hall to make it more ridiculous to be reached. i would pay an additional 1-2 dollars to use the local shipping business near my house rather than have to deal with these robotic monsters read more

This little post office is very close to my house and very convenient. I usually end up using the outside drive up mailboxes, but sometimes I have to mail packages or buy global stamps. There is often a line, but it moves pretty fast. It's a tiny location, so no stamp machine which is a bummer. The service is usually pretty friendly though. read more

Changing my rating from 1 to 4 stars because I've been going in here a lot recently and the service has been great each time. The same 'Postal Nazis' are still working the counter, but they have been very friendly and helpful on all my recent visits. Maybe they read some of the old yelp reviews and decided to change, or maybe the other times I was here they were just having a bad day. These people are the nicest! Gone are my stereotypical ideas about postal employees! I was just in here the other day sending a package to my nephew in Italy for his birthday. As typical on any given day there was a line of 5 people in front of me with two windows open. In my past experiences this meant at least 30 minutes, if not more of my time is gone at any other post office. So I've made myself comfortable as possible for the long haul. To my surprise the 5 people in front of me just a second ago just disappeared! Where did they go? Alien abduction? Disgruntled postal worker attack? No they were helped and went on their merry way to enjoy the rest of their day. Five people helped in less than 6 minutes, that's got to be some kind of postal record! The lady at the counter was extremely friendly and a wealth of knowledge, even with the "international" mail policies. So, there I was exactly 7 minutes and 46 seconds after I walked through the door, walking back through with a smile and a bit confused look wondering what just happened...Thank you folks at the USPS at La Mesa for restoring my faith in the "system" and making my day. So... first off the location was convienient,small,older,clean and decently stocked. Tucked away in the back of the mall area. First lady that helped me let me know if i could put my items in a flat rate box that i would save myself $25. So of course i did this,but when i got back in line that woman had left to the back and another woman had replaced her. There were two young ladies in line front of us who let us go ahead bc they said the woman was really rude.Of course went ahead bc had been there a while already. i walk up to the counter and she asked if my friend and i were together saying i dont want two customers here. she corrected me on a misprinted address with such attitude. I had a package ship to my PO box at this location. It's delivery date was April 24, 2014. It's now June 20th and NOTHING. I dealt with LINDA in particular at this location. Unfortunately she is the rudest, least helpful person I have ever dealt with. She insisted I had picked up the package and was trying to commit some type of fraud. I asked to speak to a manager and she said they don't have a manager??! IDK,but I definitely will be letting my PO close and will NEVER return to this location. What a joke. read more

I have no idea why all the reviews are negative, could be there's some unhappy stinky people in La Mesa.... I for one, had a good experience; came in on Wednesday at 12:30pm, no packed lobby and a clerk who was very helpful in getting my certified mail out. If you don't like long lines and think the world owes you something, then you should probably stop posting reviews that refelct on your unhappy life rather than the service you recieve. Today is the last time I'm going to this location. Always a long line with only one employee, two if you're super lucky. On a previous visit I had a boxed gift with "fragile" stamped all over it, and watched the employee pitch it like a basketball onto a pile. Seriously? Today I asked the employee what kind of bag I needed. My former post office (now sadly closed) would have chosen a bag for me and helped me get the lowest price. This guy just pointed to the rack across the room and said to pick one. Um, there's a line behind me. I just left. I work customer service, and this is an example of what NOT to do. read more
