I've had packages lost and other people's packages/mail consistently delivered to me. I spoke with the branch manager, "Mike" on two separate occasions regarding a lost package that was an eBay purchase. All I needed was a letter from the P.O. regarding the lost package and eBay would issue a refund. Mike assured me I would receive a letter. NO letter ever received. If the manager cant even do his job as he promised how should we expect the carriers to be good at their job either. No Parking, long lines, window clerks with a dont-give-a-crap attitude and incompetent management.....Long Beach Post Office is a complete joke. Avoid this place at all costs. Go to another Post Office in a different city or better yet, use FedEx or UPS. read more

This historic gem handles all 90802 mail. Wish I could say, 'lucky me.' Sure I LOVE the architecture of the building and how well preserved it is, but the service *sigh* 1) Mail carriers change routes so the service is inconsistent. 2) Twice when I submitted an online request to hold mail, and indicated that I would pick it up by a specific date, they messed up both requests. The first time they just delivered it and had half in my box and the other half in a pile on the side. This is why I wanted to pick it up! 2nd time the gal at the counter said they didn't have my mail nor any records of the online request. Hmmm, so I showed her the printout and she still said, "Nothing is here.' Spoke to supervisor and it was not there. But it wasn't in my mail box. Hey, folks! I may have discovered another black hole! Unfortunately this Yelp review will probably make no difference, as all 90802 residents have no choice. Maybe I'll give feedback on the USPS website! read more

If you must enter this world of gremlins, grinches, goblins and grumps, you must wear your cloak of protection called "don't take it personal" This is crucial information and vital to your sanity. Without recognizing that the employees' reactions have absolutely nothing to do with you, may cause you to take on their issues as your own. Just know that they are permanently in a state of anger, intolerance, impatience and annoyance and sadly are totally unaware of it. Limit your interaction at all cost. Don't ask questions and don't expect them to be ashamed or apologize for their lack of service or the "I don't give a phuck" sign on their foreheads...just nod and smile. P.S. Abandon All Hope.. If your mail is coming from 90802 post office and it goes missing.. Even with a tracker on a package (which said was delivered but never arrived).. Good luck No one answers the phone, they have only one phone number for the entire building and it just keeps ringing and then automatically disconnects. If you try to call the number while waiting in there, you'll notice there isn't a phone ringing anywhere in the area. Apparently all the workers and clients there are very familiar with the negative vibe there and it is standing operating procedure. When you call in a complaint about the place on the 1-800 number, they are aware of it.... but nothing is going to happen... To sum it up, if you lost mail or packages, don't waste the time calling or the quarter for the meter its gone... somewhere.... and it's not there or at your place read more

Forget about calling (562) 628-1303 at this post office. They never answer and they keep the line busy intentionally. Whoever is in charge of this office, what kind of pride do you take with your job knowing the community cannot call in to have their issues solved?? If you think this is not true, try calling in yourself and you will see. Of course you will not do that bec I am sure you well aware that people have a hard time calling your post office. Stay away. It's horrible. The staff is generally not available at the pick-up window. This is where all the mail the letter carrier didn't do his/her job delivering to your door for signature - on the first, second or third redelivery request - goes. One must ring bells, and yell through the 3 inch bullet proof glass to get someone to come out from the piles of disordered chaos back there. Counter workers provide equally poor service with bureaucratic iciness from behind their plexiglass perches. The Postmaster at this branch is arrogant, incompetent & repeatedly attributes his inability to solve problems with inane responses "it's not in the system." He sets the tone for the dismal customer experience one must endure here. This type of postal service was reformed every where else in the country but this branch didn't get the memo. Worst post office of all time! They never answer their phone and when they do, they give you inaccurate information. When you show up the staff has a horrible attitude... Like we get it, you hate your job. But it's not our fault you hate your job. Workers need to know its not THEM doing us a favor for providing us with their services but we are the ones providing them with business. The cleanliness of this place is nonexistent. Again, USPS failed me. I was supposed to receive a box and I was tracking it online but it said 'delivery not updated'....so where did my box go? Did it disappear in the bowels of the dusty post-office? Did someone take my box? Did someone deliver my box to another address? I read the other reviews and I feel for the other Yelpers, cause this IS definitely an on-going problem. One of my friends works at a USPS facility out in Corona and he said the employees probably forgot to scan the box or it is most likely misplaced somewhere or maybe fell off the conveyor belt. He also mentioned they truly don't care about customers' boxes. You will get the run around from these employees.....I think the one of the Asian women that works here seemed sympathetic to me, even gave me a form to fill out my loss. Why wasn't I given this form the first time around? I called the 1800# to have a form sent but that was all botched up too! Nothing matched up right, nothing going my way. After gathering all my documents needed, I filed a claim and even included a bank statement of proof of the dollar amount I spent on my stuff. I finally received a check in the mail for $50, but that was it. No apologies or anything for the inconvenience, just a check. It pays to get the insurance so you can get reimbursed. Lesson learned-keep all receipts, sign up online for USPS so you can track your box as soon as possible from beginning to end. Another option is to have your mail/boxes delivered to your workplace or sign for certified mail.... Next time I mail out boxes I will use the main post office on Redondo Ave or the never-ever busy Belmont Shore/2nd street location. read more

What a nice looking historical building, I thought, first entering. Little did I know I was entering the gates of hell trying to get my package. Poorly managed, stuffy (no AC and they wouldn't open the windows), and the longest wait ever. Seriously, the woman at counter 9 took 3 of our orange slips and was gone for at least 20 minutes! Insane! Thank god there was a counter for me to lean against, as there were no chairs. What about the elderly who come here to this hot, eternal waiting room with no place to sit? Anyway, the wall-to-wall bulletproof partition between the plebians and the workers were a nice touch. I haven't felt that unsafe since I partied in SE DC at a rave. Yeah, and NO PARKING. This place is utterly shiiiitay!!! Avoid at all costs. This is exactly why mail should be privatized. Employees left us waiting more than 10 minutes after the window was supposed to open for mail pick ups. Another employees had to come and take our notices with NO REGARD for who was in line first to last!!! Every time I have come here they act like they're doing YOU the favor ... annoyed by your presence. Never mind the fact they leave you waiting with your car parked with a 24 min limit. People have to put money in their meter again because we know how notorious this city is with parking enforcement. I'll stick to UPS or Fedex if I can. It's worth the extra cost. read more

Have not got my mail for over 7 days , emailed usps they said Covid caused their delays and tried calling this location no answer. Package says out for delivery and then updates back to arrived at post office location 3 days in a row already still have not received my stuff. I can deal with the long lines or rude customer services. But there comes a time when there's a failed delivery you have to pick up, and you simply just want to know the where about. Well, we can't even have that because the Delivery District Manager there named Sonya keeps dodging us. (The ol Out to Lunch, She has an Off day, She's on the phone excuse.) In fact, according to the employees there she's famous for getting a lot of complaints and that she keeps dodging all her customers. "She's like that" they say. It's been 1 month without a trace. We tried calling, going there numerous times, leaving a number. Nothing. No Sonya, no package. This place is absolutely horrible. The worst by far. You would have a better chance getting your stuff delivered to your trash can and have a better chance of retrieving it. Seriously. read more

While managing a building in downtown LB, I had to deal with this PO several times because for some reason, this massive building wasn't actually on anyone's route. They called it an "aux. route".. which basically means it's up for grabs to whichever employee wants an OT route after they're done with their normal route. We didn't get mail most of the time until WAY late in the day, and it was always someone different (generally in a hurry to get outa there too!). Talk about a friggin nightmare.. one guys citizenship paperwork was "misplaced".. they found and delivered it about a month later. The poor guy was almost deported! The general attitude of most of the mail carriers I've had to deal with is poor at best. Why, you ask? I have no idea! They're well paid state employees who get GREAT benefits and holidays I've never even heard of off. If I was them I think I'd have a little more hitch in my giddy-up, if you know what I mean. read more

This place SUCKS! The parking is horrible and the employees take FOREVER. I've gone to pick up packages and there's a separate line for that but that broad is never at her desk!! However, when she returns she's pretty fast in getting the packages. When you're standing in line for regular stuff, they take forever then I asked for wedding stamps...none. Love stamps...none. What kind of stamps do you have??? Hitler?? Parking is HORRENDOUS! I don't know how many times I've had to circle around to find parking. Once I just had to give up and go back the next day because there was no parking. If I didn't have to go here I wouldn't but this is where my packages are taken when no one is home. My mail is being held at this location, I went to collect it and the woman at the window is beyond rude, she has no answer on how long it will take her to hand it to me, I agreed to come back in about 30 minutes and when I do she still doesn't have it, she walks away and brings back 3 pieces of mail one of which doesn't even belong to me, I asked where the rest of my mail was and she answered "well I didn't stuff it in my purse". Truth is, I had two weeks worth of mail, she just couldn't be bothered to do her job and pull it out. She clearly doesn't like her job, please fire her. read more

Zero stars was never more deserved. Still getting others' mail. Still not getting packages delivered. Spent $300 getting packages delivered and they arrived looking like they were thrown off of a truck and entered in a box-kicking contest, with contents inside--that were packed VERY well-- broken. Still not getting ANY notifications of attempted delivery. Just happened again with a certified letter. No one answers the phone at this location if you have a complaint or problem. The 800 USPS number is completely worthless also. If this is what the USPS is now in general, they deserve to go under. God awful service, management and quality control. Not sure why I'm even bothering. It's not like someone's going to respond to this post with a resolution. I guess I just need to vent. I had a peach form left in my box for a package. I filled it out to request a redelivery and left for carrier. 3 days later, I place a note on my mailbox asking about the package. They left me a reply telling me that I need to pick it up or call the post office. Since I cannot get to the post office during the hours of operations, I tried to call the post office at all times of the day and THEY NEVER ANSWER!!!! So frustrating. I requested redelivery online 4 times to no avail. Now I get a message that the item was returned to sender. The sender is telling me that they have confirmation that the package was returned. Now I'm stuck trying to get a refund or have the item resent or I'm out almost $100.00. So frustrated. read more

The design of this place is terrible I stood in line for 30mins (service is super slow) for the lady to tell me that I need to walk around the corner to drop off my package. When you walk in at least from the entrance I did there's no signs telling you where to go so I found a line and stood in it . It was a waste of time and I rather drive 20mins out the way so I can just walk in and don't have to stand in line 5 different times in all these different areas to handle all my business. read more

I wish that there was an option NOT to leave a star. this is the WORST post office i have ever come across in my entire life. if you can avoid this post office at all costs, do it. if you value your sanity, stay away! i moved to san jose recently and I put in a change of address June 02, 2011. still i have nothing from them. when i tried to call their phone number and not the usps 800 number, absolutely no answer. none. 6 times in a row. then another 5 the next day. wow this really sucks. the only mail i am receiving is because I went ahead and changed everything online or called any subscriptions or billing statements and did it myself. which is fine, i didn't mind because at least i knew it was getting changed rather than absolutely nothing being done by the people claiming to be "working" at this post office. my boyfriend also put a hold on his mail while we were moving. when we were back in long beach to pick up more belongings and say our final goodbyes, we stopped at the post office to pick up the "held" mail. guess what, there was NOTHING there! my question is...... Worst than the DMV! Waiting in line for 38 minutes (yes, I timed it) to pick up a package. There were four windows open....two for regular customers, one for passports and a service window. Well, I figured, 'Did it matter what line I go in?' Once I got to the window, I was told I was in the wrong line. I stated to the clerk, 'Do you think you should put fucking signs up? I have been waiting in line for over a half hour!' She merely brushed her hand as to tell me to back off. Flipping worst organization I have ever used. I have never, ever written a review like this. Not once but three times my GF and I paid premium prices for packages which were never delivered and there is absolutely no recourse. They also claimed that an Amazon package had not been delivered because no one was home; I sat in front of the porch window for the entire period (seriously) and they never approached the door. Not only do they almost never answer the phone but the pickup line is a mess. Rarely is there a person at the window and when you finally get help because you went to the standard line for mailing a package, there's no accountability. I have a package 6 days late and for 3 it's been marked out for delivery by this branch and not once have they picked up the phone or updated info online. Disgusting. read more

I hate giving a low review for a post office because the organization has been serving US longer than it's been US. However, they have lost so many packages here. In the year & a half that I've lived here, they marked many packages as delivered when they were not. In February 2020 a package was marked delivered on the Arrive app & I immediately ran around my neighborhood to hunt the mail person down. The man said he was told by the post office to mark it as delivered even though he hadn't delivered it. I've never heard of such stupidity. In January 2020 I filed a complaint for a package I never received, but it was marked as delivered. There was NEVER any follow up. In 2019 I waited in line to pick up a package & the person in front of me was trying to track down a lost package that was also marked delivered. I spoke with her about my experiences (not all listed here) & she elaborated that the package was an expensive purse she bought on e-bay. Hmmm. Someone at this location is stealing? How do so many packages go missing and no one follows up. Sure you can speak with the supervisor, but he just tells you that someone in another department is handling it. Seriously, how does this place loose so many packages? Most companies will eat the cost of a lost item, but small businesses will have trouble. Shame to this post office- during a time when the USPS is on blast for possible privatization- who doesn't prioritize the integrity of the organization & deliver packages. read more

My first experience was in 2008, when a package was signed and delivered to the WRONG address. Yet the post office didn't feel it was their responsibility for the mistake, according to them it was delivered, end of story. We've had various mail carriers and all of them can't seem to put mail in the correct mail boxes, nor can they follow "HOLD MAIL" instructions. As a previous Yelper mentioned, getting them on the phone is next to impossible as well as they never seem to pick up the that is at the number listed on their website. I've switched to using FedEx, UPS and email for as much as I can or having my mail delivered to a different address that isn't dealing with the Downtown Long Beach Post Office. read more

For several years I rented a PO box here because the mailboxes in my condo were exposed to the street. Anybody could walk up with a crowbar and clean out the boxes. I liked the security, but having to stop by everyday got to be tedious. If you have to wait in line to mail something, pick up a package or apply for a passport, Godspeed my friend. It's ALWAYS crowded, and half the windows are usually closed. If people are mailing less actual mail because of email, shouldn't that free up more employees to staff the joint? And why does it close so early? It's downtown. It should be open until six at least. I will say that I love the look of this building. Everytime I go in I expect Elliot Ness to walk out past me. I usually go to the Belmont shore post office even though it is farther away from where I live but this is the one where I have to go to pick up a package. Usually they just drop it inside where our mail boxes our since we have a enclosed entry but not this time. New mail person I guess. Anywho when I went to the post office, there was like probably 20 people waiting to get their packages. I just turned around and didnt waste my time. Ill go back another time. But I have been here to get money orders. Always takes forever. Also if you prepay packages and drop em off here. They take FOREVER to process. Guy needed an order I put in the mail in 2 days which priority mail says it will be there and 2 days go by. Still sitting at the damn long beach pos office. Absolute worst post office ever! The employees are rude their customer service is horrible they absolutely move at a glacial pace and absolutely do not care that there is a line or the door. God help you if you need a passport, not only do they no longer take walk ins, they tell you that you have to make an appointment and then give you a phone number that leads you no where.
