This is the post office that no one knows about. Seriously. I've lived in East Sacramento for years now and had no idea it existed until I was on foot walking by and stared directly at it. It's a nondescript building set back from the street on a quieter section of J Street. Once inside, you'll get the same hit-or-miss service. The employees are nice, and I'm guessing that's because they don't have to deal with the irritated masses that frequent the bigger branches. When I want to get a package delivered in a hurry, this is where I'll go. Depending on the time of day it could be as empty and quiet as a library. Don't get me wrong, they aren't that much of a secret. You can still stand in long lines at peak hours. This is made worse by the small parking lot and limited area parking. There's a bank, a pasty shop and a dive bar next door. Depending on your experience, you have great options for after your visit!

Our regular male carrier is wonderful. She is so careful with the mail and checks and make sure we don't have any outgoing. She is great. But every single time she leaves to go on vacation or takes a day off whoever substitutes for her is the worst. Yesterday, the mail carrier hands me the mail in my hand because we were sitting outside. I am sitting with my friend who lives two houses down and I have her mail in my hand. So I give her her mail and I tried to catch up with the male carrier who is already a few houses down, but he can't hear me because he has earphones on. When I finally catch up to him to let him know that he gave me the wrong mail, and where is my mail, he just looks at me" oh yeah, one house didn't have mail today so I just got turned around." that's his response. Not oh sorry let me go check on that or anything else. No he turns around and keeps delivering the mail so I'm not sure if anybody got their mail yesterday or if we all have someone else's mail because he got turned around because one house didn't have the mail? He absolutely did not care, and did not make any initiative to fix this. So I'm not sure if somebody else got my mail yesterday I didn't. So then I tried to call the Arden post office today to talk to the manager and let him know this is going on. No luck you can call there 20 times nobody will answer the phone. I will probably have to make my way over there in person, but honestly, I don't think it will help. The postal people have one job to do, and in the case of the mail carrier. It's to make sure they're giving you the right mail. It's not OK that the day your regular carrier goes on vacation everyone's mail gets delivered wrong. It is tax season, I also run a business and I don't need to have my mail all over the neighborhood . I'm sure other people don't either.

First, the place is pretty clean and well organized. It's easy to access. For me, these experiences boil down to the customer experience. Upfront, I am not a weekly or even monthly person that sends packages. I'm not really sure how to use a stamp to be honest with you or where to buy them. FYI, you can buy them at the post office. Anyway, I definitely came unprepared with my shipping label the first get-go. Collin delicately explained to me that this needs to be printed out or that a QR code needs to be provided, and that they can't receive emails from us. The second time around I was still unprepared despite printing the label. He generously help taped up my package and made a note that other post offices may not be as nice. Overall, I've never had a completely bad experience here, but this was particularly nice, so I wanted to give credit where credit is due.

They accept walk-ins but not sure how quickly the line goes. I had an appointment at 5PM on a Monday and the waiting room was packed when I arrived at 4:45PM. I was called back by 4:55PM for my appointment, bypassing the walk-ins. 2) Application - there are passport applications in the waiting area but I printed and filled mines out prior. 2a) Documents - Have the original copies of your supporting documents signed and ready. I made photocopies prior but they made new copies for me (so you don't necessarily have to make copies beforehand) 2b) Fees - Make sure to double check the application instructions and fees accordingly so you can prepare a check/money order for the passport. Passport photos were $15 which is a good deal compared to Fedex/Staples which is closer to $18-$19? And it's convenient to just have them take it and attach to the application. USPS charges $35 processing fee. I paid with a credit card but had my debit card/checkbook just in case. 3) Track - I received an email ~ 5 days later saying my application was received and received my passport in the mail ~ 2 weeks after my appointment (not expedited). Was told that supporting documents arrive in the mail a few weeks after you get your passport. Located in a smaller parking lot but not difficult to find parking. The passport office is to the right of the USPS main entrance. Hope this helps!
