I really like the staff at the PB post office. They're relaxed yet efficient, very helpful and kind. They know exactly what they are doing and how to mail packages at the best cost. Worst. Post. Office. Ever. I had such a horrible experience here over the last year I had to write about it. It all started when the key that opened my mailbox broke off in the keyhole. I waited in line and put in a work order to get it fixed and a $50.00 deposit. They took down my address and told me it would get fixed within 7-10 days. I waited two weeks and nothing. Went in there after 3 weeks and inquired as to the status. They told me they don't service that area and they would refund me, but I had to wait until a supervisor got back after lunch. I didn't have an hour to wait around so I went in a week later. I went ahead and took care of fixing the lock myself. I tried to call them several times but no one ever picks up the phone. This time I filled out a form and was told I would have to wait until a supervisor got back. I came back an hour and a half later and still no supervisor. Went in again to mail some packages about a month later, was told no supervisor. Went in recently and was asked if I had the receipt for the first time for the work order. I told them to look it up by the work order and no I didn't have a receipt. The manager, a very unhelpful asian woman, refused to call maintenance and do any legwork to find the work order and refund me. I gave her an earfull, but she seemed accustomed to providing horrible service. Now I am out $50 becuase of their poor tracking systems and lack of any customer focus. No wonder the US Post Office is broke. Privatize them. read more

Living in the area for nearly 8 years has given me opportunity to really evaluate this post office. There are positives and negatives, and truth be told the negatives win. I usually find a way to mail stuff from a different post office if I can help it at all. Let's start with the basic mail delivery to residents of PB. Sure, it's inexpensive and mostly accurate, but that's about where it ends. Throughout the years I've learned to never mail anything out of the mailbox in my complex, because 9 out of 10 things will never reach their destination. At one time the postman was even arrested for stealing mail (and identities I think) and I thought the problem was resolved, but not so much. Moving on to the big blue boxes in front of the post office. What is typically an efficient drive-thru method of sending already stamped mail is an epic fail here. The boxes are on the passenger side of a car, so you either have to deploy your go-go gadet arms or hop out of your car, run around to the box, and drop your mail in. Lame. If you are able to park and go in, it's a typical mailing location. There are customers that have no clue about post office ettiquette. There are lines at the busy times and lines at the less busy times. What makes it bearable is the self serve kiosk. It seems that the Grumpy Old Men (and Women) have yet to figure them out, so generally it's a quick alternative. I've had to wait behind another person, but only once and that was during the Christmas rush. If you can afford the gas, go elsewhere for in store service. If you can afford a PO Box get one at an office near your job or something. Basically, try to avoid the PB Post Office. read more

I love this USPS! Convenient location just a few blocks down from where I live. I always receive quick, friendly service. What I appreciate the most is that if I've paid for parcel post, walked out, and returned five minutes later to upgrade my package to priority mail, they will retrieve my package and make the necessary adjustments without any fuss. The only two cons are that I have to make sure to arrive just before it opens. Usually, there's already a line (but it moves relatively quickly). Small parking lot (which isn't a big factor if you arrive early enough) and street parking available (I've only found street parking once). Take advantage of the flat rate boxes! I love that I can send a package all the way across the country in just two days. read more

For a post office, this place earned it's 5 stars. I've been to this place at least 20 times. I most normal instances, this would be the time that would I contemplate eating bad Chinese food in order to avoid going to the post office. Masochist? Not really, just the lesser of two evils. It is in the middle of everything and not in the hell of some things. Let me paint the feature-benefit of this post office... F: Off the main drag, but 4 blocks away from the beach. B: You don't have to scramble amongst tourists to grab a parking space and you can drop shit off on the way to the ocean (and just lock your sweet cruiser up outside!) F: The people who work here like their lives. B: They are unusually jovial and put you in a better mood when you leave. Imagine that. F: The building looks like one big box B: It is aesthetically pleasing to m y eyes. (for a post office, that is). F: It is right next to Cafe 976, Cass Street, and the Laundrymat. B: Do your laundry, have some lunch, mail your ish, and drink some brews....in no particular order! read more

A couple of the workers here are nice, but this place is generally a nightmare. The line is usually out the door and the customers are usually unprepared and rude idiots. The parking sucks ass too. Why is it that all postal workers always try to upsell whatever it is you come in for? I would be completely shocked to discover that you are working on commission, so why in the bloody hell do you insist on offering me ten different more expensive services than I've requested? I'm just trying to ship some shit I sold on Ebay in the least expensive way so as to retain what little profit I've made. And why do you insist that my completely taped up package is in need of more tape that you are requesting I purchase from you? If I was so concerned about said package's safety, wouldn't I have secured it more before I walked into this nightmare? And please spare me the bit about how the package could end up broken or damaged. Post Offices are simple; or at least they should be. You should come in, give your shit to the worker, they weigh it and tell you the price, they offer you stamps, you either accept or decline, you pay and then get the hell out of there in a very timely manner. Instead, you come in, wait FOREVER, give your shit to the worker, they request all kinds of shit you don't want or need, attempt to chat you up, offer you all different kinds of stamps and services that you decline and then you pay and leave angrier than if you just saw a baby seal being clubbed. **By the way, why in the hell does it matter what pattern or design is on your stamp? Does anyone really give a flying fuck what character is on the stamp of the letter that you send them? I'll go ahead and answer that one for you: NO, they do not give a fuck. So please for the love of all that is holy do not stand there for 5 fucking minutes trying to choose between the cutesy hearts and that Native American design. Which ever you choose, it just ain't gonna matter. read more

I could hear someone's voice for a brief moment right when the phone stopped ringing and then the on hold recording. Absolutely inexcusable. HORRIBLE service. Very unprofessional. They lose everything. This USPS sucks. I was expecting a very important package (certified) worth $450, and they missdelivered it to a wrong address. Of course the package was stolen/never returned. The woman working at this USPS, Sharon, told me they would send an officer to that address to try to recover my package. She never called me back or anything, and when I called her to follow up she just said that they made a mistake and missdelivered it to a wrong address, and they couldn't recover it. That's it. No apologies, no compensation. Of course I am filing a complaint to the central USPS in St. Louis. read more

I ordered a gift for my dad... I was moving out on the 28th... the package via internet was suppose to be delivered on the 25th. Tracking showed they left a notice, no notice on door. Called post office they said carrier left for the day. Called again next day carrier was off but she called him @ home said he forwarded the package to santa ana for forwarding to my moving address ( which i didn't have set up till the 28th). Now it's been a week later and no one knows where the package is, the tracking has stopped on the internet I had no idea where it was and neither did anyone else. read more

It was perished by then, I called and spoke to post office and they told me to bring in receipt I went in and was treated extremely rudely by the post office supervisor and staff. Too long of lines and not enough tellers. Get it together Post Office; especially for being in such a congested part of town. This particular post office is generally busy all the time and I have never seen more than 2 people working at once... Really??! My father worked for the USPS as a National Business Agent (Carriers will know) Truly understand why they are losing so much money and about to divvy out some serious cut back to the USPS. Its the busiest time of year to send cards and get postage. Tried to get in the door before close (Since I work the hours of Postal operations). Well didn't make it and "M**ry" the postal clerk was happy shuffle me a way even though I just wanted to buy only two stamps for Xmas cards to send to my family (on time). The stamp vending machine was outside the lobby area and would have taken and extra 3 minutes while she waited for the other clerks finish with customers. As an area Post Master General why would you have such hours? Do you think everyone is out of work and can go during your hours? Soon you may be the ones out of work if you do not change. Simple thing is to keep holiday hours to continue to boost revenue or even have 24 hour access for postage and drop off. read more

The staff at the post office is very nice in person, but the mail carrier and ability to get back to you is AWFUL. Our mailman consistently delivers my packages to the wrong apartment, despite the correct address being on the package. One day, I went into the post office to check on a missing package. They took all my info, said they'd contact the carrier, and get back to me. Never did. Now, I track my package that is supposed to arrive to day, and it's saying my package is undeliverable, even though I've had packages of the same size from the same company delivered to the same address before. I work from home. I was home all day to take it if it didn't fit in my mailbox, as is the front office. They didn't even try. They didn't leave a notice or anything. I have three days to return the items or I have to pay over $200 for the contents. read more

This post office can be very busy but the line usually keeps moving. The guy at the counter was a bit cranky on the day I came in to get my wedding save-the-dates hand-cancelled. I should have let the person in front of me go, because the other employee was super friendly and nice. It's completely inconvenient that there isn't a drive-thru drop box like other post offices (Clairemont, Linda Vista, Midway, North Park).... especially since it's in PB and there is a lot of traffic. There are a decent number of parking spots if you count the diagonal spots along Emerald. This post office is okay... just depends on which employee you get at the counter. I've had better experiences at other post offices. read more

I lived in PB for ten years. The Services has gotten better or i gotten nicer with age. The Manger (Asian Lady) and Kevin so professional. They all do their best will maintaining a smile on their faces despite the rude costumer all day long. When you go to a post office please remember - don't let your frustration of standing in a long line on the staff. We all no you don't have a 10 minute to spare to conduct your business!! - treat people the way you they should treat you. Living in PB we're almost forced to go to this post office. I've had some "OK" experiences and some horrible ones. I've had 70 year old ladies cut line in front of me and laugh, holding a spot for thier husbands while they're still at the counter in the back filling out forms, I've had drunk people, rude families, etc. I suppose all that's to be expected from a post office because all types have to use the facilities and there are a LOT of ignorant people in SD. However, there is no excuse for the horrendous customer service that you're sure to receive more often than not. Here's a little vignette from my last experience: I had to get a money order because I was sending legal documents to a court in another state and the court would not take a personal check or credit card. Because banks charge $10.00 for certified checks and the post office about a buck, I'm off to the horror show. After a long wait (expected), I arrive at the counter. The skinny balding hipster just finished talking about the tattoos on some guy's arm and the Beatles for literally 5 minutes after the transaction in front of me was finished and while the line grew, but finally it was my turn. I asked for a money order and the guy rolled his eyes and told me I'd have to wait while he got more because he was out. He slowly walks away and comes back a few minutes later, takes his time tearing off the plastic, shuffles over to the machine, fiddles with it for a few minutes, then sticks the money order in the printer. There was a mis-feed and the machine chews up the money order, literally ripping half of it, printing sideways down the other part, and some of the print was typed over some other areas of print so it was completely illegible. The guy hands me a shredded money order and asks me to pay. I looked at him and said "Are you serious?". He says "What?", and then asks me to pay again. I told him I had to send the money order to a court and they would possibly not accept a shredded document printed over itself in some areas and he said "No, they will accept it, just pay me" and stuck out his hand. How in the h*ll does he know they'll accept it? I refused to pay and told him I wanted another one printed up, to which he groans audibly, rolls his eyes and asks me again to pay. In the time it took to argue with me he could have just printed another one. I told him I wanted to speak to a manager which finally got him to act reasonably, though he took about 10 minutes to find one. She came over, asked me what was wrong, I showed her the money order and explained that it was going to a court, she said "Well, they might take it, but just to be safe let's just print another one", then quickly voided the transaction, printed another one and I was off in 60 seconds. I probably spent 15-20 minutes arguing with the guy at the counter and she fixed it in less than a minute. Horrible customer service, they take forever to do the simplest things, they spend time talking to customers about nonsense (a LOT of time) and allow the line to grow to an unreasonable length, and they have poor attitudes. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is becuase OCCASIONALLY you'll have an OK experience here...but more often than not it's horrible. read more

I am surprised by some of the negative reviews. I find the staff here to be extremely helpful and they seem to run through the line pretty quickly. Someone always says hello when I walk in and usually ask everyone in line what they need to see if they can expedite anyone. Any time I have had a question or concern they were super helpful. At my old post office at any time of day your minimum wait would be 15 minutes on a good day and good help was hard to find. read more

This post office is a MESS. There has been a line literally every time I have been there, and sometimes it is OUT the door. There are like 3 windows open and it's always people mailing like 100 packages that htey haven't addressed yet and they do it while they are at the counter. I mean.... it's slow and then on TOp of that.. the customers in there are preeeeeeety special. Not weird to see a few people sigh in a pissy way and bail out the door. THe automated shipping/stamp machine in the lobby is also terrible. It doesn't have the option to ring up some of the basic boxes you can purchase there. What's the point!?? UGH! read more

Rommel & Mayra have both been very helpful on past occasions. Sometimes there is a long line but that is true with any USPS location and at least this one has the electronic kiosk. Rommel has provided great customer service every time I have interacted with him. He gave me a tutorial on the electronic kiosk recently and I will now (hopefully) never have to wait in line again! Mayra ran the front kiosk (weekends only I believe) like a boss! I was in and out of the post office in under two minutes the day she helped me. I was supposed to have gotten that peach card that discussed redelivery but that NEVER was left at my door (unless my roommates decided it would be funny to throw it out?). I made a special trip to the post office just to pick it up. On a Tuesday around 4 the line was practically out the door. Oddly enough there were still some parking spots left (there's some street parking as to the left of it, it's a residential part of PB). While I waited in line, a clerk said she would see those who just needed pick up. This saved me a lot of time. It's the post office. No one really likes it. Don't bother calling. Your call will never be "transferred to the operator." Just rings and rings for forever. Probably on purpose so they don't have to speak to anyone. They wouldn't deliver my package after THREE attempts to try and reschedule the delivery (said it required a signature). I did everything the instructions said to schedule a redelivery, but never got my package. Opened a complaint internally as well as through the company I ordered from. I'll be lucky if I ever see the items. read more

I am giving 5 stars for a particular employee here. I frequent this establishment due to work and this employee's customer service has been consistently excellent every single time without a miss. I have visited as a customer so many times that I heard another random customer compliment him and say: you have the best manners young man if anyone I've ever met in my life. I jokingly told this employee that I was jealous of that compliment he received and a few people who overheard laughed as I wasn't the only one who heard it. He continued to remain humble as per usual accepting customers joyously. I finally found out today his name is Bahez by asking another employee since he was unusually off today. In my opinion, of every USPS I've ever visited in the last 10 or more years, Bahez is by far the best I've seen. In my personal opinion, he deserves a raise. I could see him working in almost any customer service environment and see him being a huge asset to the company and thriving there. I can also see him being someone who successfully keeps company morale up, regardless of almost any environment. Such a positive force. read more

Edited. 1 star changed to 3 because Scott, our post office delivery person, made sure we got the package when he returned to work. He's great; Odie too. I've had other good experiences at their PB location, but this last, pricey one was disturbing. Backstory: Priority Package with extra payment (almost $40 in postage) for signature arrived on 11/14 but wasn't delivered, and no note was left to advise attempted delivery or pickup required. Package was marked for pickup only and set aside. After Sender notified (Monday) Intended Recipient (IR) that the package existed and they were concerned, we went to the PB location to retrieve it. Arrived at exactly 5 pm to freshly locked doors. Spoke with a post officer there, who would not retrieve the package, though very many people were still in line. He just stood guard by the locked door. Complaint filed online and they did try to help by giving us the number 858-272-1948 to call PB PO locally. Finally received a call back from PB office that there was a brand new replacement person on that Saturday, who'd incorrectly scanned the package four times ... and that they could not refund, but they could use this as a teaching moment for other PB PO personnel. read more
