We recently found Germantown Farmington Animal Hospital. Our "furry, love-of-our-life-soul-mate"…read morewas diagnosed with a very rare type of cancer for a cat. The entire staff at GFAH were absolutely and exceedingly friendly, personable, cheerful, caring, professional, and loving to our "L'il Fella", and us as well. They were upfront in telling us that a veterinary oncologist would be better suited to take care of him. L'il Fella was the kind of guy who was traumatized whenever he left the house. So much so, that real tears dripped from his eyes down his face while he wept loudly. It was heartbreaking. But he was the sweetest, most intelligent and funniest cat we've ever seen or had. The oncologist put him on chemo (a pill), but it was absolutely impossible to try to get him to take it. We even took him to GFAH and they were kind enough to help us. But he became so devastatingly distressed that euthanasia seemed like the only alternative. He was hiding during this time, which was not anything he ever did, as he was always wanting to be near, on, or cuddled up with us. We were getting ready to take him to GFAH, when he came out of his hiding place, slowly walking towards my sister. She picked him up, and he started to weep louder. She knew he wanted me to be with him as well. When he saw me, his loud purr turned much gentler. He waited for and wanted ALL of us to be together. We cried and comforted him, and within minutes, his little life came to an end. Needless to say, we're still dealing with our loss. I called GFAH to let them know L'il Fella had passed. They were so very sympathetic and consoling, which we appreciated. Shortly thereafter, we received a sympathy card from them, and today, we were informed that GFAH made a donation, in L'il Fella's memory, to the Morris Animal Foundation. WoW! In these days and times, it's not the easiest task on Earth to find genuine, compassionate people, but that's exactly what we found with Germantown Famington Animal Hospital. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

She had been previously diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder that affected her nail beds, causing them to crumble and deteriorate. It was a very painful condition. Sadie was on antibiotics and two supplements for almost a year*( which Sadie did NOT like). I returned to the Clinic last week for a nail trim. When Dr. Parker examined her nails, she determined they looked great and we could discontinue the supplements and antibiotics YEA! Katie trimmed her nails and then "Dremeled" them. *(Sadie always requests to see Katie) and lastly, addressing her recent flea problem, prescribed *Nexgard. Dr. Parker took the extra time to thoroughly address my concerns about possible side effects. I felt the level of treatment justfied the final amount charged. Kudos!

I went in once and they told me she needed eye drops and gave me two kinds and some oral medicine. Told me I should keep her in a big plastic cone on her at all times and also gave me two oral medications. When we got home my dog hated the cone and she walked into everything with it and knocked all our stuff around. I didn't see her rubbing at her eyes much so I took it off. The next week we were told the scratch had not gone down in size at all. They said it was probably because of not wearing the cone and she had to be rubbing her eyes. I said I'm no doctor but I think it might have something to do with the fact I have to wrestle her and pry her eyes open 8 times a day and she hates it and resists. And I don't always have someone to help assist. But. They told me they recommended a more aggressive approach and needed to sedate her and clean out her eyes to remove debris or something snd I said 'okay.' They also asked about her heart worm shots which were not up to date so I said sure give her the heartworm stuff while she is in there. I got that bill and it was $800. They added a third eye drop medication. So I'm $1,000 in on the bills so far which was pretty much my entire budget for my dog at that time. I go back the third week in a row. They told me again that the scratch had not gotten any smaller in size and they said they recommended a (dog) eye specialist and it might require some kinds of advanced procedures to which I replied "sounds expensive." They said yes, it would in fact be expensive. I said well at this time I am not in a position to do that and could I please maybe just refill my prescription for now. They pressured me and said that she might lose her eye. That there was no way to make her comfortable that she was basically in pain at all times. I acknowledged that I heard what the doctor was saying, but that I just was not currently in a position to spend thousands or even hundreds more at that time. The doctor then suggested I give my dog up to the Humane Society. She said that there aren't any programs to help dogs like mine, and that it might be best to think about giving her up to the humane society shelter. This is where I begin to feel very upset because I have had my dog for ten years since she was a small puppy. She has two torn ACLs. She has arthritis and lumps in her belly. She is an old dog. It would cost me a fortune to tackle all of that with the prices they suggested. I felt like I was being manipulated into believing I was a bad person and an irresponsible pet owner because I couldn't spend thousands more for my dogs eye. After they left the room, they sent a (third) person into the room who suggested twice that I use their credit program and accumulate debt to pay for my dogs eye specialist and procedures. I do not want my dog to suffer ever. But I was very unhappy with the tone in which I was spoken to. This is Memphis, Tennessee, where you can see 100 dogs roaming the main streets on any given day with much worse medical problems than my dog have. While I wish very badly I could alleviate all the suffering my dog experiences, I found it hard to believe the doctor suggested I give my dog away to the humane society. I know that these people have studied pet medicine and know way more than I do. But I thought it was pretty insulting that they suggested I give my dog up because I couldn't spend any more money with them and their network. I wish them well but I will never go back. In the last couple days my dog has been way happier. I am still applying the eye drops but only twice a day with lots of treats involved. She is playing, trotting around the backyard, and smiling big. I know my dog very well and it was miserable eating pain pills and getting her eyes pryed open and squirted 8 times a day. I love my dog very much and it was hard to not become very rude when they suggested I give it up for adoption.

Okay just isn't good enough when it comes to our baby. When it came time to board her for a weekend trip, we called Greenbrook. I was impressed from the minute we walked in the door! The place is tastefully decorated and very clean. It doesn't smell like wet dogs. Ms Kay, one of the vet techs, came out to pet her and kissed on her, and Jasmine warmed right up to her. They gave her time to get comfortable with her surroundings, and get to know her, before taking her back. They let us walk her back and see where she would be staying. We felt very comfortable leaving her there. We returned again when little Houndini broke her crate and tore a ligament in her hind leg and cut her belly up in the process of her great escape. Again, they were absolutely wonderful with her, and took the time to explain her injuries, care, and healing to me. Dr. McCain took the time to explain that some adopted pets never get over their abandonment, and suggested things that could help her. After she won the battle of the crate, and I gave up on trying to keep her in it, I called them in a panic after I came home to a chewed up bar, shredded sofa, pillows and trash all over the den. They recommended a Thunder Shirt to calm her, and also called another patient for recommendations on a pet sitter. The Thunder Shirt didn't work at all. A few days later, Kay called to follow up with us. Although I sincerely appreciate that, it's not feasible to take her to daycare every time I need to go to the grocery store or out to dinner. Their refusal to treat the anxiety with medication makes me wonder how many of their patients have wound up in shelters because parents can't deal with the destruction, and I can't bear the thought of how she must feel every time we leave her. I'm holding out a star based on that. We just returned again for shots. Ms. Kay still loved on her, and Kevin was great with her as well. I can tell Jazzy really likes Dr. McCain by the way her little tail starts wagging as soon as he walks in the room. Shots were very reasonable at $93. They are super friendly and it's obvious that they really love animals. They're not just showing up to get paid. I think for a normal dog, this place would be a wonderful vet's office to use. Unfortunately, with the severity of Jazzy's separation anxiety, which only seems to be getting worse, we're going to have to find a new vet who is willing to treat it.

My cat suddenly became severely lethargic, refused food and water, couldn't use the litter box, and cried out in pain whenever he tried to move. As a former vet tech and wildlife rehabilitation student, I thoroughly palpated my cat at home and found no obstruction. Upon arrival, Dr. Snow demonstrated a shockingly poor bedside manner. He didn't personally inquire about my cat's recent behavior or history; instead, he delegated these questions to his vet tech, only to later disregard the provided information completely. He abruptly diagnosed kidney failure, urinary obstruction, and neurological distress and bluntly blamed me for my cat's condition, citing his overweight status--even though my cat had been overweight when I adopted him as an adult rescue. Financially, I clearly stated our $200 budget for immediate payment and requested options for billing or payment plans. Despite this, Dr. Snow insisted payment be made in full immediately, resulting in charges nearly $100 over our stated budget. He performed an unnecessary catheter placement procedure without my explicit consent, even after I had already signed paperwork authorizing euthanasia. Additionally, I signed paperwork for a paw print keepsake that I never received. Dr. Snow repeatedly pressed for payment while I was clearly distressed, trying to process the heartbreaking reality that my beloved cat wouldn't be coming home alive. To add insult to injury, he coldly mentioned cremation services would cost extra and wouldn't allow us to keep our pet's ashes. As a final, insensitive gesture after helping me bring my cat's body to the car, he casually asked how many cats I had left at home. After five years of trusting Dr. Snow with the care of my pets, I am deeply disappointed and heartbroken by this experience. His lack of compassion, professionalism, and sensitivity during one of the hardest moments for a pet owner was unacceptable. I strongly urge pet owners to reconsider trusting their pets to Berclair Animal Hospital and specifically Dr. Snow, especially during sensitive and critical situations.
