The bagels at Utopia Bagels are definitely worth the hype and deserving of their reputation as one of the best bagel shops in the five boroughs. My everything bagel had a near-perfect balance between a crisp exterior and a satisfyingly chewy interior. That reputation means Utopia is likely to be busy no matter the day or time. I went around 11 am on a Wednesday, and there were about 10-15 people ahead of me. Between ordering and actually getting my bagel (and it was just a toasted bagel with cream cheese, not an egg sandwich or anything), it took about 15 minutes. That being said, are the bagels at Utopia worth making a special trip for? Not really, for me personally. While Utopia may technically be the best, there are enough bagel shops around Queens that come close enough that I don't see myself going out of my way to visit very often. Utopia has recently opened a few locations in Manhattan and Long Island City, so it's easier than ever to give them a try without coming out to Whitestone.
In the 80's and 90's utopia bagels was my go to spot. Although I still live in the area, I branched out to other bagel stores that were closer, more convenient and in my opinion, bigger and better bagels. Every time I wanted to go back to Utopia bagels, the lines were always out the door. I always thought to myself. Why? So, I finally went back yesterday as I had some time to kill and the line was not that bad (10:30 am. On a thurs.) Upon entering I see they've expanded the store since I was there last (which was many many years ago) . They have so many employees behind the counter, which keeps the flow moving. They have a lot to offer as far as baked goods, cold, cuts, eggs, etc. the usual . But, all I could think about were the Flagels. I got hooked on their flagels back in the day when they first started making them. My mouth was watering for a sunflower seed Flagel with butter, I had to have one. Back in the day the tops and bottoms were covered with sunflower seeds. That was the best part. A Crispy outside and crunchy sunflower seeds everywhere. Now, I was lucky I had about seven or eight sunflower seeds on the top and it was quite chewy. What a disappointment. I know utopia bagels is a staple in the neighborhood but Sorry..... it's not worth the hype. I won't be back.
The best bagels in Queens! The worth it is definitely worth it. Lox with cream cheese, tomato, red onions and capers is the perfect combination. The bagels are made fresh everyday and handrolled. The line can be long during the morning.
Whenever taking a red-eye into JFK, this is the detour I make when driving the rest of the way home. I've been to a lot of bagel stores, absolutely have a few fine ones here in the Hudson Valley, and often check out bagel shops when traveling around the state or country, but Utopia in Whitestone is my favorite. It's a friendly shop, even at 5:30 in the morning, and the bagels hit right every single time. I don't sleep well on overnight flights, but this breakfast stop helped make short work of that last 75 minutes of my drive home.
No surprise here, Utopia Bagels is enjoying more than 'a moment' because they are and always have been the best bagel in NY. As fans for 30 years, our only hope is they aren't expanding too rapidly. Best of luck, keep up the great work.
Go on a Wednesday to get the 5 star experience. Any other day you get a baker's dozen for the price of 12 bagels but on Wednesday, 16!! And these are classically good New York bagels; nice chew on outside and soft (but not too soft) inside. I got the 16 bagels for home and a BEC (if you have to ask what this is, then you are not a New Yorker) on sesame and rainbow with cream cheese for the drive. All were as it should be. It is getting hard to find classic good bagels similar to how it is hard to find classic good pizzas. I just wish I did not have to drive all the way to Whitestone to find them.
My stepdad loves the mini bialys from Utopia. Seems that everyone loves the bagels here, so I went. I needed to deliver 2 dozen of these morsels to some friends that somewhat recently relocated upstate. They miss good bagels....and were beyond happy with said delivery. I picked up another dozen to share with neighbors and throw a few in my freezer. I wolfed down two (one sesame and one egg) during my drive north and I'm not ashamed to admit that I could have shoved a third one down my pie hole. I ate the egg one plain and then decided to pull over at the Plattekill rest stop to throw a schmear of veggie cream cheese on the sesame. Yes. These bagels are damned good. I hit the Whitestone location at a good time; the line wasn't too bad and they have a big crew behind the counter that really hustles. Great, friendly service. I'm now known as the bagel sherpa around here, so I'm quite sure I'll be schlepping a few dozen north the next time I'm "downstate".
One of my favorite bagel spots to hit while I'm in town! The Everything bagel is top-notch, but I like the others too. Such a great selection -- they even have gluten-free bagels! Get here early because there's usually a line, but it moves quickly. I love to getting The Worth It bagel sandwich (Nova, Cream Cheese, Tomato, Red Onion & Capers) here. There's also usually a good amount of outdoor seating on the patio to enjoy the bagels on-site.
Chaotic good. Utopia bagels is quintessential New York bagels. Chewy interior and a crisp exterior, with the option of filling it with your favorite fillings and then picking up a side or two and a drink from the refrigerators on the opposite wall. Chaos because there are so, so many people in the shop and it's a "who's next!" situation. Be ready to place your order if you're next to the counter or take a few steps back to let other people go ahead of you. Then enjoy your delicious bagel(s). They also accidentally put cheese on my bagel when I requested no cheese, still a good bagel sandwich though.
What a great local bagel shop! After being disappointed with the lox bagel at the most popular Russ & Daughter the last time we were in NY, I wanted to give it another try and had couple new bagel shops to try this time. What a store and friendly staff. Mr. Todd was very helpful in helping me get things to try. Wanted to try The Worth It and wasn't sure which bagel to get and toasted or not, so I told him to make it the way he wants to, I trust you:) The Worth It was definitely worth it! So delicious with the lox cream cheese plenty capers. Finally understood the allure of lox bagel that I still didn't get when tried the russ n daughter before. Got me really excited for more lox bagels, lol. Onion with cream cheese was delicious as well, bagel so chewy and good. Got kid the rainbow just to be playful and for photos. The Worth It is worth it for any time of the day!
Terrific hand rolled bagels have a nice crunchy exterior and soft inside. They are great with any of the many cream cheese options. Can't go wrong with an everything bagel and scallion cream cheese. Coffee was surprisingly good too. The service was friendly and helpful and there was plenty of seating out front if you want to eat there. My only disappointment was the baked salmon salad which was absolutely inedible and tasted nothing like kippered salmon. Not sure what other filler fish they put in there but they should really change the recipe.

Great bagels, egg sandwiches etc. Just not very happy that I called to place an order, and was told I could not and got a hang up. Now standing here on line to get an order filled and making other people wait cause the pick up order people couldn't be bothered. read more
My all time favorite bagel spot in New York! Honestly, I have never had a bad bagel here. They are always fresh, with the perfect crust but fluffy and warm inside. There is usually always a fresh batch of bagels coming out in the mornings/afternoons when they are busy, always go with what is hot! read more
Probably one of the BEST BEC bagel sandwiches I've had in the city. To be honest- the toppings were just alright. The bacon, egg, and cheese were pretty standard although the ghost ketchup was nothing to be scoffed at. I have a high spice tolerance and this was way too spicy for me. The real star is the bagel though- so dense, chewy and fluffy. I LOVED the texture and slight sweetness of the bagel flavor. The filling eventually got too spicy for me and I scraped away the inside just so I could finish the bagel. I definitely want to try the others now! read more
I came here twice. I waited over 30mins in line the first time and ordered an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. Tbh I didn't think it was worth the wait.. the bagel was so hard. Was not expecting that. Maybe it was just the batch I got. Thought I would give it another try so went back on a Monday at 6am. This time around there was no wait and I ordered a sausage egg and cheese on everything bagel. I actually really enjoyed it and the bagel was pretty soft this time but I think I might have liked it more because I didn't have to wait in line for it. Overall, I think this place is good but I just don't think it's worth if you have to wait over 30mins in line just to order. I did see a sign for pick up orders so might try doing that instead next time to cut the wait time! read more
They're bagels may be good, but the rest of their products are not even worthy of a one star review. I got a chicken cutlet wasn't even cooked. See the picture below had the macaroni salad, and it was not edible tasted sour avoid this place at all cost you'll just get sick to your stomach buy the bagels and go home. My cousins wife called & ordered us food after a morning of moving her stuff from out the crib from li to queens, I hadn't eaten & was starving so y'all know how this about to go lol. P.S I'm a 1st time customer! The food meet us once we got back & finished moving things pretty much, the order took pretty long to come in not going to lie like 30-45 minutes which was the only thing I didn't like. The food came with everything needed to eat w/ utensils napkins etc, as for portion sizes I would say it's about right for a bagel & waffle so no issues there. As for the food now everything was fire! The bagel slapped the waffle was amazing & the fresh OJ set the whole shit off. Always a joy to visit Utopia bagels. Simply the best in the Queens area (especially for folks who don't live in Manhattan!). Perfect chew with soft interior and lovely flavor. Can't go wrong with these bagels!! First off, there's a decent amount of outdoor seating and street parking right in front of the store. Inside has a whole wall of drinks! So many options for bagels and cream cheese, sandwiches, sides.. they got your most classic and also other cool spreads! The bagels are hugeeeee. I can barely finish a whole one if I get it with lots of filling. The minis look way smaller but they're tbh they're enough to fill me up. The normal bagels are def worth. I recommend the lox bagel!! I like it with scallion cream cheese. Their sausage is also good :)) Def recommend and would come back! read more

I've been here a handful of times ever since I moved nearby. Be prepared to wait on a long line if you go during prime bagel time in the morning! I like that there's a parking lot too, super convenient. The bagel with lox is a staple- I usually get this when I come here. My bf got the Montreal, which wasn't bad. My friend got the LES, which I didn't try but he said it was good! I've had them forget leave out part of my order when I go sometimes. I get it's a little loud but still! The garlic bagel is sometimes toasted too much, which burns the garlic on the outside. Overall, still great bagels! read more
NYC has a Scream x Utopia Truck Pop-Up. I went to try their bagel for the first time. I got the Utopia blood red bagel with bacon, egg, and ghost pepper cheese. It was delicious . I made a short video of the pop-up of them making the bagel. read more

The bagels here are legit! Lines are very long, and sometimes out the door, especially during weekend morning hours. If you see people outside of the door, but in the tent, it may look like they're waiting on line, but might actually be sitting in the outdoor tent area. Best to visit during off-peak hours, weekdays etc! No delivery unless through Uber eats! When you enter, the person on the left counter may be the same person, both taking your order, fulfilling it and ringing you up at the cashier. Cheaper with cash! read more

3 years ago, I gave Utopia Bagels a perfect 5 star. With my past few experiences, I've decided to update my review to three stars. Somehow they feel more corporate now. They're bigger than ever and maybe it's because of their popularity, the workers feel they no longer need to serve with a smile or even say thank you. The portions are also less generous now it seems. (See!Pic). If I was to rate Utopia Bagels on food quality alone, it would be 5 stars. But with the rude service, corporate ambiance, and tiny portions for big prices, they're a solid 3 star now. read more

Bagel are great. However, in the winter you freeze in their makeshift outdoor eating room. In the summer you eat with the bees who constantly berate you due to your food. They used to have indoor seating but now its an unused empty space. The owner apparently doesn't care for its customer's comfort. read more
If you live in Queens or happen to be there, you have to stop by Utopia Bagels. It's one of the biggest bagel spots I've seen with huge fridges stocked with juices and drinks. They also have a bakery with irresistible cakes and cookies. My hubby got their Everything bagel with eggs and scallion cream cheese (toasted). It had the perfect crunch and the cream cheese was really good. They also have gluten free bagel options and sugar free desserts. I got the Gluten-free bagel with egg white and scallion cream cheese (toasted). The eggs were soft and cooked really well, the gluten free bagel was delicious! I also got their freshly squeezed orange juice. PS: They aren't lying when they are say, they do "NY bagels old fashion way.. By Hand". While I still love me a Utopia Bagel, I'm growing more and more disappointed and disgruntled at their service and attitude. I know that they know, that they're great - and apparently that has gotten to their heads. It's losing its once smaller, friendly neighborhood feel. With over a dozen staff that run around taking orders, they often times just yell at people and rush, and half-heartedly slap on your spread and move on. They really need to eat some humble pie and remember its roots and treat their customers with some respect and gratitude. After all, you are NOTHING without your customers and their purchases. We recently took our friends here from out of town and while they enjoyed the food, they were left with a bad taste in their mouth when it came to how they were treated. (Currently, I'm still peeved and don't even want to bother with a long post and details) Just embarrassed at how this is just what's to be expected of them nowadays. Bagels on a Monday morning at 8:45am were decent. Some very cold and not at all soft - almost makes me wonder if they were from the day before? I never got them toasted before because it was always fresh and soft and sometimes even warm but I may have to resort to getting them toasted now .. read more

As I return home, it hits me... I've been patronizing Utopia Bagels in Whitestone since 1994 (30-years) and what's a better way to say welcome home to Flushing than to feast on a Queens institution at the OG bagel house. The same place where just 10-15 years ago, people in Manhattan at work would ask me about my favorite bagel spot, I'd say Utopia Bagels in North Queens and they would all laugh or look at me dumbfounded as they question my integrity. My response, "you're not even from NYC so STFU and trust me." Now, they all seem to know about this place (great social media presence helped) and what used to be a quick walk in is now a guaranteed but well worth it wait for either an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, a salt bagel with cream cheese and lox, a sesame bagel with tuna salad or a plain cinnamon raisin (my four go-to items for 30-years now). The coffee has also gotten better, the pastries are solid, the staff is always moving and hustling and Scott the owner continues to be a regular behind the counter and in the kitchen, both of which have expanded 3x in size over the last 30-years. And you know what, the bagel quality has still NOT changed. So much so that my mother, a weekly regular, continues to ask me if we can have lunch together every weekend and there's only one place she has in mind. Just like in 1994, Utopia Bagels still delivers the best damn bagels in NYC. Don't believe me? Well, fix your taste buds then ;-) read more

Good bagels Other bakery items not so good Poor service, no clear lines, not friendly No longer accepts calls for takeout orders, you have to order in person now (which doesn't make sense in this era of COVID) The Worth It sandwich on an everything bagel is what I usually get but there are better lox sandwiches in Manhattan. I got just plain lox on a bagel w cream cheese last time and was surprised that they skimped so much on the lox. They give you more lox with the Worth It sandwich. read more

I do not usually give 5 stars but this place is worth the wait! Never had such a perfect bacon egg and cheese on a bagel! The hashbrown that they included was perfect along with the well seasoned everything bagel. The bagel was nice and crunchy on the outside, piping hot and soft on the inside. Cheesy pull quality and of-course any customization you want! Came on a saturday waited around 15 mins and had the perfect bagel! Had both a regular bacon egg and cheese as well as their breaded chicken cutlet + hashbrown combo on a bagel! Superb! A solid price not expensive like other premium bagel shops! read more

well worth the hype! i've made the grave error of watching an Eater video featuring this place late at night while hungry and was really drawn in. sure i've heard of this place before but my hunger swayed me and i scheduled an Uber Eats delivery for breakfast this morning. i got the Worth It (lox, cream cheese, red onions, tomatos, and capers) on an Everything Bagel. the fillings were fresh but the star was definitely the bagel! it was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. the texture was amazing! i also got 4 more bagels (everything, cinnamon & raisin, jalapeño cheddar, and french toast. i've tried the french toast so far and it had a nice, faint smell of eggs (and cinnamon or nutmeg?) and dusted with power sugar. the texture was really good too. overall, a very solid spot and will be back for sure! read more
Definitely stick to the bagels at Utopia Bagels. I ordered several different breakfast items including omelettes and French Toast- everything was very average. The Boston cream donut also fell flat as it lacked any actual cream in it. For the price and hype, I expected more. read more

It's dystopia not utopia... Unfortunately never got to try my destroyed bagels ordered from here. My $59 dollar order consisted of 13 fertilised bagels crushed and sitting in the back of 100° FedEx van for a day or two. Would not waste my time with their service department nobody cares contacted gold belly good luck with that.. watched a really cool video about them on YouTube about the owner but did not experience everything he said that they can compare themselves to. Definitely would not return or purchase again. read more

The most honest to goodness fresh bagels you ever have! Despite being in a remote location mass transit wise, this place is always busy. The staff work hard and do a great job to keep up with all of the orders. It's such a thrill for me to watch the bagels being made in the open kitchen! The Worth It bagel sandwich speaks for itself, and the coffee cake is delicious. read more

Probably not there not closed during the holidays and the make items in the oven that are not separated
Low carb bagel does it have alot less carbs than regular is it worth having or just have regular?
All bagels have a lot of carbs 84 per bagel so if you need to stay away from carb bagels are not good you can scoop them out that takes more than half the carbs away. The low carb has only 55 carbs still a lot but less and they do taste great.
What is the difference between the country chicken salad and the plain chicken salad?
Country Chicken Salad has walnuts and cranberries.
How many carbs in the low carb bagel? Is it keto friendly?
50 -54 grams not kept friendly . scooped will reduce it in half. i still don't think kept friendly but close.
I notice they have gluten free bagels. Does anyone know if they are cooked separately from the regular bagels? My mother has celiac and cannot have cross contamination. Thanks
