Porn in the claw machine...need I say more? The jukebox is filled with an interesting mix of classic rock and country. Pool table, shuffle board, and darts. It's pretty small, but rarely crowded. A nice place to go if you want to be able to hear a conversation or play games. The owner's got some great stories to tell! They call him Maurice and he's hung out with Tommy Chong. I visited this place after the honey wine festival. While I was there I witnessed a man named Bobby who worked there tell a veteran he couldn't bring his service dog in. When they questioned it he not only didnt explain himself but he also was extremely rude to the veteran questioning not only his right to have the service animals but questioning his disability all together in a way that was very condescending to his time in service. I dont knowmhow you can treat some one who sacrficed so much for thwir country like this. The guy was just trying to enjoy the place with his family and was ridiculed and embarrassed in front of every one for no reason. I really hope this doesn't happen to another family again this was totally unacceptable. I intend to spread the word to all my friends and family to make sure that they don't bring their business to this place. read more

So, I'm not one to judge.....but I will comment and this is what I noticed.... 1. Very well lit for a dive bar: This place reminded me of a bowling alley bar. The good news is you can see EXACTLY how old the guy buying you a drink is...the bad news is you can also count EXACTLY how many teeth he has left. 2 Self tipping bar staff: I understand that the down economy has been tough on everyone but isn't it still considered bad money to take your tip from my change? If I give you a $20 for an $8 bill please DO NOT subtract an additional $2 for your tip!! You've done your job please let me do mine. If I could give it zero stars I would. The place is fine for a dive bar, it's just the bartenders that are absolutely terrible. Takes about 30 minutes to get their attention to order something, and they move at their own pace. On top of that, they're super rude. Unless you like to be abused by crappy, rude, slow bartenders you should stay away from here. There are better alternatives in Livermore. read more

My usual beer stop was closed New Years day. Decided to get some Mexican take-out and wandered in to the V&E. Place was clean, had several ppl inside, large t.v. with a bowl game (in HD!). Lost a star for service being a tad slow. Guess the real bartender was out having a smoke. Glad to see ownership is requesting that those who do smoke go out the back. When ppl were out front on 1st, it made the place seem trashy. Perhaps this little neighborhood bar will survive the downtown transformation. read more

Where do I begin with the good old fashioned V&E. The V&E I think is a historic landmark in Livermore. It's a good old fashioned bar where you don't have to dress up, you come as you are, and you're accepted. The funny thing is that there's no lights inside the bar. Only neon beer lights provide lighting for this Livermore landmark. This is definitely a place to go on a Friday or Saturday night as your last stop off from other bars in downtown Livermore. The only thing I caution is that Livermore is the number one DUI rate city in California and there's normally cops hanging out around the corners watching and waiting so they could give you a free night stay at Santa Rita and hand you a nice big fat DUI ticket. I only know this because my friend got busted for one lol. I definitely recommend people experience the V&E at least once in their life. read more

Weird little dive bar with a fun music selection on the juke box. Unpretentious place to hang out with friends and play table shuffleboard when you're in that dive bar kind of mood. Service can be slow if there's a high demand, so be patient. Younger crowd & a bit more crowded as the night progresses. Clean bathrooms here - which is almost unheard of in a bar - yay! (although, the back reeked like peee ~I think some dudes sneak out and take care of their bizness in the back -sans toilet). read more

I kind of like this place. It looks like a real dive from the outside, but it's pretty well lit and clean on the inside. I have never been treated as an outsider and the locals were all friendly. First impression was when did the smoking ban get revoked. Once entering I realized that no one was smoking and the smell seemed to disapate. A typical local dive bar of sorts. The juke box was playing good music, there was pool and skeet tables, the Planters peanuts given out for free hit the spot but my tiny chimney glass was a bit sad (tasted good just a tiny tall). read more

Oh the V&E. Probably my favorite of the Dive Bars. I had my first drink as a 21 year old here: not by choice, it was the only place open on Christmas (I'm a Xmas baby). So that should tell you something. Pool, jukebox, large bar with lots of stools, and patio out back. read more

Just had a fantastic day at work and wanted to celebrate !! Went to the V&E and it just ruined my night. Server was completely racist and did not even ask me for a drink. I sat at the bar and 15 minutes later got asked what I would like with the worst attitude ever. Sure Bad day, Shitty customers - Gave the Bartender the benefit of the doubt - She is having a rough evening- Tipped well. About 45 mins later - drink glass is empty, I am still sitting at the bar. Another 10 mins pass and no check in by the bartender. Again I am like maybe she is having a busy day - she come to my side of the bar - asks the customer on my left and on my right if they wanted another drink and even though my glass is empty, not even checking in with me. After a few minutes I walk over to the middle of the bar and asked for a glass of water and politely asked the bartender why she never checked in with me and she says - You were not there. I left smiling and with a vow to never come back to this bar and give them my business. Horrible customer service and definitely racist. Please don't give them your business - They don't deserve it. read more

Quick service, great music (an assorted collection of good ol' county, classic rock, and a pop jam every now and then) and feel good vibes. I'll give V&E a star for having a pool table, good jukebox and hella good drinks! they make a killer 7&7! strong & cheap around $4.00.!! But its a DIVE! it also has a stinky odor lingering in there, seems to never go away. I cant describe it, it just smells. It gets packed on occasion it does, but its dumpy. Prepare to get carded up to 40ish! depending on you! The ladies bathroom was clean everytime I used it, so lets bump it up to 1 1/2. read more

My grandfather & his brother, Vasco & Edward (V&E) started the bar way back. My grandfather died in 1947 & my father, Hank Lewis, bought out Uncle Edward & ran the bar until his death in 1997. My father & grandfathers pictures still hang on the wall over the cash register. It has always been a good 'ol place to hang out & I'm glad to see people still enjoying it. I was surprised to see newer music on the juke the last time I was there. Jimmy is doing a good job & I'm sure my father would be happy to see it still doing well. read more

Been coming here the last 10 years. Not sure if I'll ever be back sadly. The VE is special for what it is and it isn't what it isn't and that's always been fine with me. The one star rating goes to the bartenders. Most of which weren't even employed there when I first patronized the place. The two older gals were great. The women in there now: super rude, serve friends only, and take 30 minutes or more to even get to you they get to you at all. Last 3 times I've been there my party of 4 and I walked out without a drink. That's a lot of money VE is losing. I also found it kinda insulting how if they don't know you, they'll look you in the eye, cash in hand, and instead of serving you, take a shot with their friends that are standing next to you. Hopefully the management will take a look at that and I'll be the first one to happily come back. Until then we'll just say hey to their awesome bouncer at the front, wish him well, and keep on walking. read more

Been here many times to grab a drink and play shuffle board and always had a nice time with friends. Last night the bartender was terrible. SO rude. My friend said "I'd like a draft beer" only to be reponded by the bartender "I'd like a dishwasher". Apparently we were supposed to order bottles so she didn't have more work. My friend's draft beer was knocked over on the bar and she charged him for a new draft. Talk about someone who hates their job. We won't ever return. read more

Ewwwww. Old decor, musty smell and bad service. I tried this place several times. Each time I walked up to the bar, I was not acknowledged by the bartenders at all. I don't mind waiting at all, I know they get busy. But they don't even look up a smile or anything. They act like you are not even there. 2 times not, I have gone there, waited at the bar for 10 min, got no acknowledgement what so ever and just left. read more
