A really great gem in Santana row! Came here for happy hour (located on the 3rd floor in hotel Valencia) and went crazy with the apps and drinks. We sat outside and got a nice view of Santana row and ordered the Santana sparkling wine drink which was good, a mule, a marg, and I got a tequila sunrise which were all very strong but really good! The fries and flatbread also did not disappoint and if you're into roasted cauliflower get that too. We decided to check this place out on a Thursday at 6 because lazy dog was insanely packed. Luckily this place had happy hour until 7! So that was a pleasant surprise. The place wasn't crowded which I personally enjoyed. We sat out in their small balcony and enjoyed our snack and drinks. I really enjoyed the truffle fries! They were not oily, good truffle flavor, and crispy. I would definitely get those again. The drinks were good as well and reasonably priced for happy hour. The only tip I'd give the bar is that I'd appreciate it if they wiped the glasses before serving the drinks. Our drinks were sticky from when they transferred it into the glass. TL;DR - OPEN as of March 2021. Call ahead of time to make sure. Hip, lounge-y, and a little casual - good for small groups (max of 6) or date night. Great service! But you must order food with your drinks. COVID-19 Review. V Bar is open for indoor and outdoor (balcony) seating as of early March 2021. Sometimes they close for special events, so I recommend calling ahead of time to check their hours, especially during the pandemic. I came here mid-March on a Saturday and I don't think many people knew that they were open because the bar was empty except for one couple on the balcony. It was oddly quiet initially, but luckily they turned on the music after we were seated. Overall, the bar has a hip, lounge-y, somewhat casual vibe. There are about 6 or 7 tables surrounded by couches inside. Outdoors, there are 3-4 small tables that can accommodate maybe 2 people max. During COVID, they accommodate parties of up to 6 people for a maximum of 90 minutes. Restrooms are closed. They ask you to use the ones in the lobby. The service was great. We were greeted and seated as soon as we arrived. Multiple people checked up on us now and then. Staff were wearing masks and COVID protocols were being followed. They don't allow walk-up service at the bar. Instead, the waiter/bar tender will come to your table with a menu. One reason I knocked off a star is because they require you to purchase food with your drinks and food options are limited. We were so full from lunch, so we ordered the cheapest option: fries ($8). It's freshly made and comes in plain, garlic, or truffle flavors. For drinks, I highly recommend the "Death & Taxes" cocktail ($14) - how fitting for tax season! It has Don Julio Blanco, Union Mezcal, lime juice, agave nectar, and Ancho Reyes verde chile poblano. It was fresh and not too sweet with a little kick at the end. I like the ambiance of Vbar. Have been there several times in small and large groups, and have been happy with the experience. They have delicious Quesadillas and a full bar. I'm taking one star away because the service and/or bar tenders have sometimes been not as friendly as you'd expect. There is a narrow balcony with a few tables if you like to sit outdoors. After leaving dinner down the street where the music ended, I was looking for a spot to grab a cocktail. There was a long line, so I thought, 'why not'. There are people of all ages and attire was very casual, mostly shorts and sandals or sneakers for women and a mix for men: casual slacks and a button down or shorts and a polo. On either side of the bar it looked like there were tables and couches reserved for bottle service. In front of the bar there were a few low tables and cushioned stools. Not many so I sat on the table. About 30 minutes later a bouncer walked up and barked at me. "YOU CAN'T SIT ON THE TABLE!" I didn't find that tone necessary. I arrived around 10 on a Saturday night. The first round of drinks took just a couple minutes. I ordered the Paloma off their menu. It was overpoured and tasted horrible. It tasted nothing like a Paloma so I thought I had the wrong drink. I tried my daughter's drink, a margarita, and it was also overpoured, horrible, and didn't taste like a Paloma OR margarita to me. I took the drinks anyway ($45). The second round was probably around 1030 and took about 30 minutes. I ordered another Paloma. I couldn't believe it could have gotten worse but it was so grossly overpoured that I had to leave it behind. Music was very unfamiliar. Was it House? It wasn't music to dance to and it wasn't music to listen to. It completely killed the vibe and killed my buzz and I left just after 11. The place was just starting to pack at that time. It's a bit loud so it is difficult to have group conversations but that is what you expect from an average trendy bar. I did feel that getting drinks took a long time which I didn't expect because we had a reservation so we were not going up to the bar. The drinks were basic, nothing special, and at $14 for a cocktail, you're really just paying for that 7th floor of a hotel vibe. DANGEROUS PLACE Last Saturday I celebrated my birthday at this bar, hoping for an enjoyable evening with my family. Unfortunately, 7-8 guys got into a fight that actually spilled over into where people were supposed to be chilling, putting everyone else at risk. In the middle of all that chaos, my boyfriend stepped in to protect our group and he ended up getting hurt - he had a concussion, cuts on his head and a red eye. Security didn't show up for a while. What's even more surprising is that the manager, Victor, seemed to put the blame on my boyfriend for what happened (and I suspect there might have been some racial bias involved). There was no offer of paramedic intervention. Victor initially provided us with an aid kit, but then he took it back. The security guards in the pictures were actually laughing at my family and me. They had the nerve to tell us to just go home, calling it "bad luck" and saying we were somehow "in the middle" of it all. I've never been through anything like this before. The way they handled everything was just terrible, no understanding whatsoever. Honestly, that manager, VICTOR, should seriously be let go. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! My business partner and I were in town for an event, and chose to go to V bar after a conference. The ambiance was nice, the bartenders were subpar. We experienced an over served, extremely intoxicated man who was yelling and swearing at us, two young women. When security was asked to handle the situation, they DID NOT. We felt exceptionally uncomfortable, and expressed that to security as they continued to do NOTHING. We were unsafe and they did not care one bit. After reading many other reviews about women being and feeling unsafe here, I highly advise others to NOT give business to this bar. There are other safer, and better bars on Santana Row. Love this bar! Drinks are fabulous here. I always go with friends. The vibe in here is great, but the security is very strict. They will rotate you off of the bar after a certain time and the drinks are on the pricier side. The music can be hit or miss but it's usually good a lot of the times. This is a rooftop bar on the highest floor of Hotel Valencia, open to the public. Unfortunately, the patio area was closed for an event so we hung out in the bar area. Have been here a few times and definitely enjoyed myself every time. V bar is the hidden gem of San Jose for sure. My go to drink is the Santana 75, and Bruno makes it to perfection. I know some of these reviews speak negatively of the security, but I respectfully disagree. They actually have a nice security presence, and you should feel good about that, because we know people can get a little rowdy with a few drinks in their system. Mackenzie, is my favorite. He's super sweet, personable yet commands a presence when he enters the room. If this place is offering different flavors for mojito , that's ok, but to not know what is a classic mojito and then make fun of me was super insulting . My friend also got similar "treatment" b/c he asked the bartender for recommendation on-a whiskey-based cocktails . Got a very impatient and rude answer when he started asking what whisky's they have , that implied that "he should know what he wants and don't ask question " There are so many reasons you come to a place - the food, the drinks , the atmosphere , the prices - but if the service is so offensive and rude then all the rest just don't matter . I came here late night for drinks with a friend visiting from out of town. Parking was a breeze because it was later on, after the dinner crowd and families went home. Unbeknownst to me Santana row is quite the happening place for you young folk at night. V bar had an older crowd, which was kind of cool. I liked the dark red and black hues that gave the bar a more sultry ambiance. Located inside the hotel, you take the elevator up and pass a little corridor, as people lined the bar and leather couches. Ordered a mojito, which came out with a paper straw, which I found pretty annoying, because I sip my drinks instead of having to suck it down because my straw was dying. Minus a star for that. It's a hook up spot for sure, which made it a little awkward to talk with my friend as we sat nearby a couple making out, hot and heavy, like they were in their 20s even though they were at least 2-3 decades beyond that. Ironically I'm having to deal with my credit card to resolve this issue and thank god I have copies of my receipt where I noted that the drinks I was being charged for were not mine and needed them removed. The bartender was sweet, made everything in a timely manner, and we did get an order of truffle fries which were delicious.
