Review #942 2026-006 Drink Order: Sweetened Pandan Flavor Soy Milk (蘭葉甜豆漿) $6.25/half gal. I was looking for an alternative soy milk & tofu pudding shop in SGV, & found V.P. Tofu (永豐豆腐) in Monterey Park, which is a lot closer than TN in Rosemead (refer to Review #38) & with longer hours. I made a couple of attempts prior to the pandemic, & usually my choices are sold out because I'm going after lunch or near closing time. I tried again post New Year because I was having an early lunch with my brother in Alhambra, & stopped by afterwards around 2:00 PM. The specialty food shop is located in Newmark Plaza on the corner of Garfield & Newmark Aves. The parking lot entrances/exits are narrow so it's challenging to enter if someone is exiting, & vice versa. What's worse is the steep driveway off Newmark Ave., you'll need to angle your car to enter/exit so that you don't scratch your car's undercarriage. Also, the spaces are super tight! I drive a compact car; even though I centered my parking, it was a squeeze to get out (kinda like playing limbo except you're upright & trying not to let your car door touch the car next to yours). Yikes! Some lady in a Lexus SUV next to me complained that I parked too close to her... hello woman, get out of the car or look out your window & see that I'm centered & not even touching the line. In any event, I backed up to let her out & she motioned me to park elsewhere. I parked again & told her to stay in her car; I'm doing a pick-up & shouldn't take me more than 5-mins. (was done in 3). As soon as I got out, another car went in behind me. If she has mobility issues, she should look for street parking along Newmark Ave. Again, 2:00 PM was still too late for me to order original soy milk & soy bean pudding. ＼(｀0´)／ I'm a purist, what can I say? The puddings were sold out by noon; she says it's crapshoot on what sells (soy milk or soy bean pudding) out faster. Luckily, they still have a couple containers of Sweetened Pandan Flavor Soy Milk. Pandan, often referred to as "vanilla of the East," is a common tropical plant used in SE Asian cuisine to flavor sweet & savory dishes, particularly Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino, Indonesian, Singaporean, & Malaysian cuisines. The soy milk has the earthy notes of soy combined with the floral hints of coconut & vanilla... it was mild (in pandan flavor) with just the right amount of sweetness, yet refreshing! Still, I like the original best, even though I haven't tried V.P.'s yet. The soy milk's ingredients are listed on the container: non-GMO soybean, pandan leaf juice, sugar, filtered water; no preservatives, so any container that's opened should be consumed within 2 - 3 days. No nonsense service, not rude or polite, just matter-of-fact/straightforward... what can I get you, this is the cost, here's your change. Like most specialty food shops in SGV, cash is king! It's been awhile since I purchased soy milk or soy bean pudding, so I'm not sure what's the going rate, but it feels expensive for 1/2 gal., though regular is $1.25 cheaper (12% cost savings) than pandan. Likewise with the soy bean pudding, large original is $2.00 cheaper (~24% cost savings) than pandan. Their menu also includes various types firmness & flavored tofus, fried bean curd pockets, fried bean curd intestine, & fried wheat twist. A couple of things I found odd is that their cold soy bean pudding only comes 1 size (assuming small) & costs 50¢ more than hot; I'll have to ask if there's a cold large option. Also, they charge for the soy bean pudding syrup, which is also strange because there's always syrup or some kind of topping for the pudding, otherwise, you're just eating "soft tofu." Pandan soy milk is available all business days, but pandan soy bean pudding is only available on weekends. V.P. Tofu definitely serves fresh, tasty soy milk! Will I be back? Likely. But I'm going to explore SGV to see if there's other soy milk/soy bean pudding specialty shops. Recommended: Sweetened Pandan Flavor Soy Milk. read more

I am ashamed because it is so good. Their soymilk is even better than store bought Asian soymilk.. What made me want to go here was because of their flavored soymilk! And I love that they have sweetened and unsweetened option. Definitely will be coming back many more times. 6. Fried Firm Tofu with Lemon Grass Chili -not spicy at all but very fragrant, so good. A great snack for anyone. 15. Pandan Soymilk (sweetened)- really wasn't that sweet but just a touch and it was perfect! Wished the pandan flavor was a bit strong but overall a solid soymilk. 16. Black Sesame Soymilk (unsweetened)- wow just wow, you can really taste the roasted black sesame shine through the soymilk while still tasting the soymilk. I've known about this place for many years, but never really stopped by. I think they used to sell to all of the local supermarkets in the area, too. Anyway, I was looking for a dessert to serve after hosting hot pot at my place. I was glad I thought to look them up and found out that they offer a pandan tofu pudding with coconut sauce and ginger syrup. Out of wanderlust, I also bought a 1/2 gallon of the sweetened black sesame soy milk. Both items came out hot, so I took them home and let them cooled down on my counter prior to putting it in the fridge, because I planned on serving them cold. Later that afternoon, I served both items and they both were very GOOD. The sesame flavor was in the soy milk and just sweetened perfectly. The pandan tofu pudding was VERY smooth, had a good pandan flavor and paired well with the coconut sauce and the ginger syrup. I think the ginger syrup could have been a little more concentrated with ginger, but that's me. I'll make my own and add a hint of anise/cinnamon to give it a kick. Overall, it was 16.50 for both items that were made fresh and were very refreshing when served cold. I will return this weekend to buy another batch since I'm hosting again. This is a shop my parents have been going to for years for their soy bean tofu. Their soy bean tofu comes hot and fresh daily. We also buy their steamed peanuts, and soy bean milk, non sweet. but they also sell sweet versions too. Very affordably priced and their soy bean tofu comes with sugar if you ask. We love eating this as a dessert with their peanuts and add our other favorite toppings like jello and boba or tang yuan ourselves. Everything is made fresh. Visited this place on a Saturday morning and there was no line. Probably due to the Thanksgiving holiday and Black Friday happening the days prior. I ordered the pandan milk and was surprised they had an unsweetened version, yes please! It is tasty and the soymilk is nice and thick. I also got their pandan tofu pudding with ginger syrup and coconut. They only had the warm one and for a cold day, it was so comforting. It wasn't overly sweet. Service - Friendly! I didn't realize you can't pay by card so I used zelle instead. They still operate with a really old cash register so it was nostalgic to see one again. They helped me confirm the correct zelle account and then the order was quickly and easily paid for. Food - SO GOOOOOD. Nothing beats some piping hot, freshly fried, and delicious tofu. You need to be patient since they don't just have a whole team working! The wood ear mushroom and noodle tofu had a nice texture with all that's in it. I liked the bites of noodles. The lemongrass tofu really isn't spicy as some might say, but this really depends on your tolerance. It has a nice fragrance to it though. The "intestine" is wonderfully crispy with a soft inside. The wheat twist is nice and chewy. Places like these are an absolute haven for me since I'm vegetarian. Overall, everything was great and I'd definitely go back again to get more fresh tofu! V P Tofu has been around for a long time, yet I had no idea despite having lived in the 626 area for most of my life. I visited on a Saturday around 1:00 pm, and all the tofu products were already sold out except for the tofu desserts. I purchased the hot silken tofu dessert in pandan flavor, which is available only on weekends. I was concern I was going to have language barrier as I'm not that fluent in Chinese, but everybody at the store was fluent in English. I ate it after dinner, and it was the perfect dessert. I microwaved it with the syrup and coconut cream on top of the tofu for a little over a minute and a half, and it was perfectly hot and delicious. I had never tried this dessert in pandan flavor before, and the coconut cream added a very nice touch. I'm glad I stumbled upon this spot while I was in Monterey Park. I've lived in the San Gabriel Valley for so long and always thought VP Tofu was similar to another tofu place in Rosemead. I finally tried VP Tofu and was pleasantly surprised at some differences that are really nice! They have a flavorful lemongrass tofu, they have sesame soy milk, and if you order fried tofu it is freshly fried. Eating it right away, it is piping hot and crispy. Before the fried skin softens a bit... because of the freshness there is a bit of a wait but it's worth it for a snack. The place seems like a mom and pop place and they speak English, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese. They don't open every day of the week and I was told they only make the coveted sesame soymilk twice a week (Thursday and Saturday). If they run out, they run out. Therefore they might not have all the menu items and go early! read more

VP Tofu is my go to for all things soy. They sell a variety of soy milk, deep fried tofu, tofu skin, tofu pudding, etc. When you buy soy milk here, it's almost always hot. As in hot because it's freshly made. They sell regular, pandan, and sesame soy milk (sweetened/unsweetened). The deep fried tofu usually sells out before 10a. My favorite is the deep fried lemon grass tofu, deep fried tofu pockets, and deep fried soft tofu. All solid and delicious choices. The tofu pudding (dofu fa) is also very good. I just tried the pandan flavor (weekends only), and it's delicious. It's best to come before 8a because they always run out of the popular items. And don't forget to bring cash. Expect lines on the weekends and a 15 min wait for fried tofu items because they're made to order. Bring your mask (required inside) and be patient. Good things take time! The very nice lady at the cashier is almost always there and is so helpful if you have questions. This is a no frills shop with lots of locals as regular customers. This is a no dine-in local spot. My only small complaint is I wished it was open M-W but they're only open Thursday to Sundays. I don't fault them though. V P tofu is located at the corner of a small plaza across from CVS. There is a little parking lot in front of the shop. It shares a parking lot with a laundry place, so sometimes the parking can be little bit crowded. VP Tofu has the BEST soybean tofu pudding (aka: tofu "fa") in town!! I've tried so many places for the same thing in LA, yet nothing tastes like those at VP so far. The hot tofu pudding at VP is smooth, filled with soybean flavor. It is so good to the point that I can easily finish a large size on my own (I know, no shame lol ) It always reminds me my childhood. The down side is those pudding always sold out really quick! You will have better luck if you come here before noon in order to get the hot tofu pudding. read more
