Not fresh bakeries here! Selling old stale Duran bakery first time there and also will be last time there
    Ben S.

Bought a few things there today for the first time. Was kind of skeptical when the guy said you have to microwave it for 30 seconds before you eat it. Bought it anyways to try. Did what he said and off course idiot me bought old stale bakery here first and last . If you like not fresh bakery come here

We stumbled upon this little bakery after having lunch next door. I noticed the display case had rows of colorful baos on display, and that was enough to get my curiosity. Inside is small. There are no seats, have mostly packaged foods and whatever is inside the glass case. Our first time, we tried their taro, custard and mung bean baos. A quick heat-up under a wet paper towel in the microwave and they came out warm and soft with a sweet filling. Second visit, I got 4 custard, 2 taro and 2 red bean, and I'm sure these will be equally good like the first time. According to the owner, these will keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks or much kk her in the freezer. Just steam them or try the microwave method to get that soft, pillowy texture again. Royal Bakery appears to be a small family run business, and their baos are quite good. I haven't tried their other sweet or savory buns yet, and that's just a good reason for me to go back again.

BUN HEAVEN My family always comes here to grab as many Banh Bao as we can before heading up north. I personally came in to grab 30 Banh Bao before heading back and it was kind of hard to find at first but we'll worth it. Pretty sure the owner helped us out and he definitely gave us a good experience! It was a little less than $3 a Banh Bao! I am in love! Coming back soon for sure

Generous amount of mung bean. $1.25 in 2022. Dough was a tad dry in my opinion.

I only got to try the two sweet baos this trip. Previously my friend has gotten us the meat bao for a road trip and those are pretty heavy aka loaded with a pretty compact ball of meat and egg. They're not bad. The green sweet bao has mung bean inside. The first bite was pretty dry in my opinion as it got stuck on the top of my mouth and i couldn't even chew it (I had to manually unstuck it). After that you encounter a generous amount of yellow bean paste inside which is about a 4/5 in sweetness for me. It was warm as they had just made them. The dough isn't the glutenny kind that stretches. It was more like crumbly bread type. Mung bean and taro baos now $1.25. I can't say I am a fan of the baos but wanted to share some pictures and current price which is still not bad.

The 3 different small baos are very good. They are also $1 each. Amazingly cheap for such good quality. I also tried their Viet style chicken bao and that was bomb dot com too. The secret is their dough, which doesn't crumble when you bite into it.

I want to give a shout out to Royal Bakery because they have some delicious banh bao. I bought one of the OG pork baos to snack on while we waited for our table at dim sum. It was so good! I ended up going back to buy a dozen of the pork and one of each of the colorful ones to bring back home to SJ. The green one, which was mung bean, was SOOO good. I regret not buying more and I'm definitely gonna make a detour just to buy more of their mung bean banh bao. Bonus points- they accept card! I know a lot of mom and pop shops don't accept cards so this was very cool because I try my best not to carry cash due to safety concerns. Make sure you tip to cover their CC fees or bring cash.

    Jumbo Pork Bao
    Chri Y.

Hands down one of the best baos I've tried!! My favorite is their jumbo pork bao. The bao is so fluffy and nicely sweetened on the outside and the inside is filled with pork, sausage, and egg that are perfectly seasoned with a mix of savory/umami and slight sweetness. Because the bao is pretty big and they put in a generous amount of meat inside, I think this could be a substantial snack when you're pretty hungry or even a good light meal. The owner is also super friendly and personable which made the experience even better for me! I will definitely be visiting this place quite often

Soft Sesame Candy w/ Peanuts-$12 (I ate a few pieces already lol oops!)
    Jenny L.

I was reading everyone's enthusiastic reviews about Royal Bakery's Lunar New Year goods, so I decided to stop by a few days ago! I specifically wanted to try the SOFT SESAME CANDY WITH PEANUT (8.5/10). When I arrived on a Tuesday afternoon, about 7 people were waiting in line. All the customers were middle-aged Asians who spoke Vietnamese/Chinese/etc so I knew this place was legit. One box of Soft Sesame Candy (pictured here--I ate a few pieces already lol oops) is $12. The candy is nice and soft with a slightly gelatinous texture. It isn't too sweet, which I appreciate. I also love the little bits of peanut inside. Overall, I enjoy this candy--and on the plus side, I only need to eat a small piece to feel satisfied, which is great for my health! The employees were pretty good about only allowing 4 customers in at a time, for social distancing reasons. The man at the cash register was very friendly. There is a large parking lot nearby, and a few more large parking lots on the same block, so you definitely have your parking options, especially if you go at a down time like a weekday afternoon.

    Mixed box
    Jennifer L.

I enjoyed the desserts! So fresh and delicious! They have bag ones for $10 and boxed ones for $12. I wanted to try the mix, so opted for the box. Loved all three flavors (White/Black sesame and peanuts). Got a mix feeling about the pork buns. The bun itself was very dry but the fillings really good, with pork and egg.

Its a small shop on Main in Alhambra and there's a lot in the back as well as street parking. It's a brightly lit, pick up and go type place though there are a couple tables out front. The baked goods look really cute and enticing and I ended up going for a mystery box since I wasn't after a specific cake and the mystery aspect seemed appealing. I also got 6 egg tarts, which were a great price at $1 each. The baked goods/sweets looked better than they tasted flr me. The egg tarts had a texture that was a bit off putting for myself, it was more of a steamed egg texture than a silky custardy filling. Flavorwise, they were ok though. The mystery box was fun and I got an apple cake, peach cake, and a panda cake. Now the mystery box is day old cakes so keeping that in mind, they are like cream based "cakes" and are essentially cream covered gels/jellies of some sort. The flavor and textures were good, very light cream with strong fruit flavors (the panda was also a peach flavor, I think). As a set of the mystery box price, I think the cakes are fun to try but I wouldn't, personally, pay those prices for essentially shaped cream. I'm glad I tried a new spot but ultimately don't think it was super impressive and found most of their desserts and baked items to be average, or a little less so as for the egg tarts.

I got a bag of coconut macaroons, bag of several chocolate chip cookies, 2 red velvet cookies, a baked dog cookie biscuit, and a cute Keroppi sugar cookie. Most of these ended up being gifts, but I did enjoy one of the red velvet cookies and for an already sweet flavor profile with white chocolate chips in it, I was already fearing the worse, but went perfect with a glass of milk. The edges were nicely crisped by the baking too. Delicious. Love that they had a stock of cute, pre-decorated cookies available as well (some Sanrio characters, animals, etc.) They also list all the ingredients used in each of the baked goods that they have prepackaged, which is nice. And there's a city public parking lot about a two minute walk away. Staff is very friendly, professional, and welcoming. Staff maintained a bright smile throughout my visit. Staff immediately helped me. Customers can order at the self-service kiosk or counter; however, the kiosk felt very dated & the prices on the kiosk felt less transparent. I recommend just ordering at the counter. There's no penalty for using card at this donut establishment. As mentioned, I love the Tiramisu Donut ($4.95). It's not too sweet; rather, it all felt balanced. However, this is a VERY messy donut; I recommend eating this donut with a fork and knife. The powder fall everywhere, and your clothes can quickly get stained with chocolate powder. Still, it's a delicious pastry. On ambiance, Old Ferry Donut (San Gabriel) is comfortable. This business is more reminiscent of a cafe than a typical donut shop. There's customer internet with password; details on the counter. There's a gender neutral restroom. I cannot begin to express how pleased I am with my experience here…read more I have called around to numerous bakeries and this was the only one that was within our budget! I think it's ridiculous other stores are charging $125+ for a 6 inch gender reveal cake (no decorations/ no writing). Is it because it's a gender reveal cake with either pink or blue frosting so they have to hike up the ridiculous prices?! Look no further everyone!! Get all your baked goods and beautifully made cakes here! Other places also want a week's notice before pick up. This spot is only 1 day!! I spoke to the owner over the phone and gave him the details of what my vision was for the cake. He made my vision come true, but even better than I thought it would be! And because you order the cake one day ahead, you can taste how moist and fresh the cake actually is! Versus if you were to order a week in advance anywhere else, the cake would be dry and brittle!! I cannot stress enough how happy I am with my experience here. From my inquiry over the phone up until pick up. I am very very pleased and will continue to come to this establishment. They truly deserve all the praise. THANK YOU for an amazing experience that my hubby and I will never forget!

Honestly, whenever I need a Chinese style birthday cake, I always end up coming to Sunny Bakery…read more For me, this is one of the go to spots in the SGV. Their cakes are the classic Chinese bakery style, light sponge cake layered with fruit and whipped cream. They make custom cakes in all different sizes and I think the pricing is pretty reasonable for what you get. Best of all, the cakes are fresh and not overly sweet, which is exactly how I like them. This time I ordered a quarter sheet chocolate cake with chocolate cream. It was really good, rich enough to taste like chocolate but not so sweet that it became overwhelming. Everyone at the party seemed to enjoy it. They also open at 8am which makes pickup convenient if you need a cake for an early event. One little bonus: if you pay cash, there's usually a small discount. Let's just say Uncle Sam might not be getting invited to that party. Overall, a reliable bakery that I've been coming back to for years.
