The wait was long, the facilities were not impressive, they don't serve water, by the server's own admission they serve FROZEN yuca mofongo, and the chef does not know how to cook meat to medium vs well, so I don't know why the server even bothers asking. Ok. I don't understand the low stars for this restaurant. Felt welcomed from the start on a 8pm dinner. We ordered sangria, a beer, and charasco relleno. The food, wow. The meat was super tender, the monfongo stuffed inside was rich, flavorful, and made my tongue dance. The waiter immediately noticed I was chilly and suggested we move to a warmer part of the restaurant. When we asked about the ingredients sangria, which mind you was good, the waiter immediately refreshed it with a new one. Thanks! The place was not even full and i ordered some mofongo and it lasted 30 minutes to get to the table and the waiter only gave me the drink and food and never came back to charge me. Had to ask another waiter to charge me. Terrible experience. My entrée's side was shredded fried plantain, which was burnt. I asked the waitress to change it since it was obviously over cooked, and the cook didn't want to do the new ones. Well my sister ordered a dish and when the entrees came out was served something completely different. When she questioned the waiter about this he replied that they simply "didn't have" the stuff for the dish that she ordered so they just decided to serve her plain chicken....very weird. Worst experience at a restaurant ever. Most of the food looked and tasted packaged and precut. Took for ever to sit down, and uncomfortable seating, they are picnic tables mainly. If you are a large group of 10+ expect a long wait, most of the food was overly salty. There steak was horrible, and there pinacoldas were horrible, bbq in New York has better pinacoldas that this place, which is really saying something since this is Puerto Rico. Appetizers were alright nothing special, the place is packed with mainly tourists. Not super loud music but combined with a lot of loud people you can barely here anything you say to one another. Food was speculation! We ordered the Trio Vaca, which had chicken, pork ribs and beef. The chicken and ribs were extremely tender--fall off the bone tender! Beef was a little tough, but was very tasty. It came with fries, which were great! Lots of meat left over! The dish could have fed 3-4 people easily. Fresh lemonade was delightful. Attended here with 2 other people during my visit in Puerto Rico..Upon entering this location the staff was friendly and very attentive, but then again the place wasn't so crowded..Simply we were seated where we ordered all ordered mojito's..The 1st round was awesome..But when ordering the 2nd round, it appeared that something drastically changed...The drink tasted mainly like syrup and lots of sugar...The waiter accommodated, by understanding the bartender that served us prior had recently ended his shirt and left which explained the awful change..The waiter actually mixed a better mojito then the bartender, where he took it upon himself to fix that sugar rush (great job by the waiter I must say)...Now to the food, we ordered a trio which consist of white rice, beans,tostones, and bbq ribs that basically serves 3 guest..Everything was good with the exception of the ribs..The quality of the meat is somewhat questionable where it was rubbery and oddly rough..This place received 3 stars from me based on the waiter and his corrective measures to our experience there..Without the waiter working extra hard and being attentive I would have easily rated this place a 1.5 - 2 stars, sad but true... read more

Went there while wandering Old San Juan. Like most tourist traps, they had a guy outside luring folks in (actually mooing like a cow). We just wanted to sit outside and have a beer. Against my better judgment, we ordered food. I got a pork mofongo and my gf got the appetizer sampler. The pork was so dry it was inedible and the sampler (though huge), was tasteless and we only ate a few of the vittles. We decided to get a box for the food we didn't eat (most of it) to give to a homeless person. We threw it out instead, as even starving folks have standards beyond this food. I can only speak for those two dishes, so avoid the mofongo like the plague. If lost and wandering around Old San Juan, go to Punta de Vista rooftop bar and restaurant. read more

Terrible food, everything was overcooked except for the half of chicken. The sides were flavorless and uninviting. The environment was not suitable for a Vaca Brava theme, and the decor was unwelcoming. The crepe cheesecake dessert was good but could not compare to the guava crepe dessert served at the location in Barranquitas. Basically everything was dry except for the water. I'm from Puerto Rico and I went here with some relatives. The place is very noisy. There are tv's all over and there was a tv right next to our table. Our table was for 6 people but only 2 could see it comfortably. I was sitting right under it so it was just noise. The tv's all played sports. The tables were really close together. You can hear everyone in the room trying to talk over the noise of the tv's. The service was very slow. I can't even remember how long we were waiting but it was over an hour. The atmosphere made it difficult to wait that long and I got a terrible headache. The drinks took a while to get. I had told the waiter to bring me water too and when he finally arrived with the drinks he forgot my water. The bathroom was very dirty and smelly. The whole place smelled kinda bad, which is not something you want when you are eating. Also the room was kinda hot, like it had air conditioning but it was either turned off or on a really high temperature. It was an uncomfortable temperature. The food was ok, not bad but just bland and blah. We ordered like a line of meats and some sides. The meat was just ok. The sides I tasted was mofongo, tostones and fries. Being Puerto Rican I love mofongo and honestly I'd had much better ones in food trucks than at this restaurant. It was cold, the flavor was bland and the texture was too mashed. The tostones where under seasoned, cold and greasy. The fries where just fries, like what you can get at any fast food restaurant. I didn't pay but I know the meal was pretty expensive for what we got. For me it's not worth it. I've tasted much better food and had better service out of local food trucks and small cafeterias. This place is touristy but a really bad example of what Puerto Rican food and culture is. read more

Bad food, excessive cost and no air conditioning. The worst cuts of meat of the lowest grade. Parking is really bad. It is amazing how this got to be famous, they are so slow serving people that there is always a line of customers waiting outside; which I guess, its the only way us puertoricans know if something is good or not. Man vs Food charges localities for their promotion services and will say anything at all about the worst joints in the world; don't believe something is good just because it is featured on TV. This place is terrible and very expensive for the quality of food we received. The waiter disappeared. We had to wait a long time for our appetizer. Of course the wait for our dinner was about an hour, and the food was horrible. The pork was dry, and the steak and ribs tough. Also, the buckets used for sinks in bathroom were filthy with food. I was attracted to this restaurant by the yelp reviews and pictures of the food. Seemed like a good choice for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. Great choice! Kan Kan was awesome. Tasty pork chop with amazing skin that was just like southern cracklins. Service was impeccable. Brendan was an attentive waiter and the manager visited to check in as well. The 2 for $5 IPA's was pretty sweet as well - Sierra Nevada and a few others. Really enjoyed this place and would highly recommend. read more

Horrible horrible, I used to go here in the past but recently they've gotten horrible with their service and food portions and everything. We waited an hour for our mofongos, then when it came out it had like 3 pieces of meat in it. Last time we were there around a year ago and they had three times the amount of meat we got today. I couldn't believe it. Then when we asked the waiter to bring over the manager the manager pretended like she couldn't speak English, which was a huge lie because my Puerto Rican friend who took us there told us that all the managers have to be able to speak English, she was pretending to not speak Spanish just so she didn't have to deal with us. The waiter also did absolutely nothing to help or apologize, in fact he told the manager that we had one Spanish speaking person so that she could pretend to not speak English and just have to speak to our friend. We also saw several other tables complaining, probably about the same thing. She only took off 10% for the bill even tho we only had like 3 pieces of steak in our steak mofongos which each cost like $17 but only really had a few pieces of meat, normal amount of plantain, and undercooked veggies. I must say this is one of our places to visit every time we are in Puerto Rico.. Today was exceptional Juan Carlos Abreu was our server and he was outstanding from the beginning.. He explained the many with great detail and made great suggestion.. We decided on the New York T-Bone made to perfection, by the way its grass fed meat.. I have never had a stake that didn't need a knife to carve, this is how tender this was, Ana off course amazingly flavorful.. Oh and don't let me get started on the Coconut Mojitos made by Juan himself.. over all best server and best service.. We came to Puerto Rico for vacation so we had no idea as to what place had good food. We were driving by and saw that this restaurant seemed pretty good. We walked in and were greeted but our waiter took a long time to come back to the table to get our order. Great place for meat lovers I had the Carne Ahumada de Cerdo (Smoked Puerto Rican Pork) with Rice and Beans. The pork was very fatty, but very tasty. The rice and beans were fantastic! I'd give my meal three stars, at best, but I'm giving the review an overall four stars because my wife's meal was one of the best she had on our entire trip. I can't find it on their online menu, but it was chicken with fried plantain (mofongo). My daughter had a burger, which was thick, juicy, and perfectly done. The service was really slow, but I'll consider than an anomaly, since our waiter seemed frustrated as well, and none of the other guests had to wait for their meals. We were in no hurry, so it wasn't that big of a deal. And when our meals came out, the were all hot and fresh, so it's not as if one or two of them sat waiting for the others to be ready. I was VERY impressed with the price of the meal, because the portions were large, and with the restaurant being near the dock where the cruise ships dock, I would think the prices would be inflated. This ended up being on of the cheapest meals our entire trip. It's a big restaurant, so it's not personal, but if you want an economic and very good quality meal, give it a shot - especially if you love meat. read more

Horrible!!! Don't waste your money or time on this place. There where only 2 couples and my family of four in the restaurant at the time we went. They forgot the appetizers and we where waiting for an hour for our entrees . The waitress never came out once and when we told them we wanted the check for the drinks they told us the food was in the kitchen but the chef was slow making the other plates. They still brought out my food and my husbands. Mine was frozen and my husband's fish was dry and cold. We waited about 30 min for our food and it was awful. I had grilled chicken breast which was good but the rice was not fresh and my husband ordered the chuleta can-can (a dinosaur pork chop...lol) with about 4 oz of meat rest was fat. 30 min later our stomachs were rumbling not from hunger. This is a must stay away place. We heard much hype about this place. Service was awful, the 90 minutes we were their we saw our waitress 3 times. 30 minute wait on 4 dishes, then told the other plate was delayed due to being frozen still, a pork chop. The sirloin orders medium rate came out over well done, the mofongo was like eating dry lumpy paste, and when the pork chop arrived it's was rare still. This is a tourist trap!!! Overrated and food is only good if you don't know what you are eating. We called there two days before for reservations. Got there and we had to wait 30 mins only to be told our group had to seat in two separate tables, with two separate waiters. Food came out wrong and horrible. This service would never be acceptable in the original one in Barranquitas because they are serving Puerto Ricans there and the expectations are real. The old San Juan locations knows a lot of people have no clue of what the food should look or taste like. Don't ruin your vacation Go to Racies instead or some other restaurant in Old San Juan they are a dime a dozen. This place does not deserve anyone's time or money. read more
