Tucked away in an unassuming retail strip, Valeria is worth a visit if you are looking for high-end Italian fare. They use high quality and locally sourced ingredients which leads to a price point that may seem excessive, but that all depends on just how much you are willing to pay for wood-fired pizza or spaghetti tossed with crabmeat and olive oil. Truthfully, I enjoyed everything I ate and I thought the service was consistent, but having found Valeria on Yelp, I figured that I would be able to use their 50% OFF second entree deal that becomes available after you check in. I was disappointed however when only after I checked in did I find out that the deal is only valid on weekdays. Very sneaky and not cool. Here is the rundown. Bread and Olive Oil Bread is fresh baked and oil is high quality, but is served only with salt and pepper. Some herbs would have been nice. 4/5 Bibb Lettuce and Beet Salad Fresh, light, and large enough to split. Topped with high quality Parmesan. 5/5 Scallops and Lentils Odd pairing but works well enough. Scallops are on the small side but cooked perfectly. 4/5 Spaghetti and Crab Doused in olive oil and could have used a little more crab. Pasta cooked well. 4/5 Wood-Fired Pizza Great dough, solid toppings and large enough to share. 5/5 Rum and Vanilla Bread Pudding Interesting take with a caramelized crust. Almost creme brûlée like. Just left. And we felt we had to write a review since we were fooled by the 5 star rating. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. And the meatballs were so cold that I immediately knew they had to have been frozen! And it was obvious that they put it in the microwave after I sent it back because the bottom was extremely hot when they returned my plate. My husbands noodles were over cooked and mushy. Good thing they give you salt with the bread because you will need it with your entree. We sent his back and decided not to reorder. Some guy said "the chef tasted it and says the noodles are fine". This is THE restaurant to go to in Boerne. Hands down. My husband and I are from Houston and we took a Texas Hill Country road trip to see the blue bonnets. On our loop back towards Houston, we spent the night in Boerne. After a 5+ mile challenging hike at Lost Maples, we drove into Boerne and found Valeria on Yelp. With the awesome reviews, we had to go. Man, are we glad we did! We had a lamb meatball appetizer. It may not sound like much, but a slice of lamb meatball on homemade sourdough bread with a scoop of carmelized onions on top turned out to be extremely flavorful. It also came with mini pickles that were tasty. For entrees, my husband and I split a margherita pizza with fresh buffalo mozzarella on top and a charbroiled cheeseburger with melt-in-your-mouth fries and homemade ketchup. Both were phenomenal. If you like crispy fries though, these are not the fries for you. Amazingly, we still had room for dessert and I'm so glad we did! We got the key lime pie and the strawberry pie. Both are made by the owner's mother. The key lime pie was literally the best key lime pie both my husband and I have ever had. And the exact same thing can be said about the strawberry pie! Most upscale restaurants are closed on Mondays in Boerne. Called Valerias to get info since it was open and I had never been. I was told about the great homemade pasta made for the lasagna so we decided to go Got there early and waited for restaurant to open. There was our table and one other. When we ordered we were told they were out of lasagna and that the other table got the last 2. Ordered two apps one was good. read more

What a pleasant surprise! Located in s boerne tucked behind the Verizon store doors this hidden jewel. The pasta was homemade as was the bread and sauce. Everything we tried was outstanding. Very disappointed for Friday date night. The place is very nice, the menu is selective and the food description and prices indicated we were in for a treat! Husband got the chicken parmigiana and I got the Margherita pizza, we also got 6 meatballs as an appetizer. There was quite a wait (everything is homemade), but the main dish came out before the appetizer. The noodle sauce was separated and watery, the chicken and breading had no seasoning, the pizza had 5 whole basil leaves on it, and the sauce and cheese was surprisingly bland. The meatballs were smaller than expected. If I'm paying $12 for 6 meatballs, I'm expecting more than 1" meatballs. There was no salt and pepper on the tables- we had to ask for it. The staff was wonderful and very sweet, but their cook must have been on vacation? There was a surprising lack of flavor, spices, something. It was just so bland. My pizza reminded me of the Chef Boyardee make-at-home pack I made as a kid. $60 with no drinks?No way. I feel bad giving a bad review, but for those prices I feel this is necessary. Maybe we just caught them on a bad night. UPDATE: Chef Keith, I appreciate your willingness to respond to a review. However, I must argue that you do NOT give any indication whatsoever that your food is intentionally different (authentic, organic, non-GMO) than what you advertise on your sign and menu. Why do you not tout this exceedingly on your menu? I would think this would be a huge selling point from a marketing perspective considering the audience you obviously cater to! I have unfortunately reduced my original rating to 1 star as I feel that your unprofessional response to me indicating I am an un-traveled, uneducated creaton with zero culinary knowledge experience, or am unfamiliar with your low self-esteem name-dropping. I wish you luck in your future customer service oriented restaurant. And encourage you to more heavily advertise your healthy, Non-GMO restaurant so that your patrons will know what to expect and appreciate. I've been to some of the best restaurants in the country and Valeria is by far the best one. All the dishes we've had including the pastas, seafood, the steak bordelaise and the tournedos rossini are outstanding! Keith Kuhn is the owner and master chef. He uses the healthiest ingredients possible and all his steaks are 100% grass fed. Lara the manager and server does an outstanding job and has a great attitude. Having moved to Boerne recently, I desperately wanted to find a good Italian restaurant to offset all of the Tex-Mex eateries. I tried Valeria several times after reading some reviews of their establishment. Unfortunately, I was sadly disappointed with them. Order their equivalent of Frutti di Mare, and it was a train wreck. Their service was slow, because they are woefully understaffed. The seafood in the pasta was old and chewy. It was not fresh as the waitress insisted. Also, it was outrageously priced at $50. I do not mind paying high prices, but I expect great food and service in return. Valeria failed at both. Finally, the restaurant ambiance was horrible. There were boxes of food and wine scattered throughout the restaurant, and there was a pathetic Frank Sinatra imitation singer crooning away loudly, which I found annoying when trying to talk during dinner. Furthermore, It look like an old Tex-Mex or burger joint. The owners could immediately improve the restaurant by ditching the singer and paying more for staff. If looking for a nearby Italian restaurant, I would strongly recommend driving down I10 South to Aldo's. They have much better food and service. read more

The food was good, but service needs improvement. We were in town for a tournament and decided to stop by Valeria since it was very close to our hotel. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. The ambiance gets a mixed rating. There was a live singer who sounded good. The rest of the decor was ok with lots of wine bottles and cases around. We ordered the spaghetti carbonara and fusilli della nonna. Both were well cooked, creamy, and delicious. The portions were on the smaller side. The downfall of our visit was the service. The staff was young and inexperienced. After sitting down, we weren't greeted by our waitress for at least ten minutes. After taking our order, it was another 20 minutes before our appetizer arrived. The main entrees arrived around 10 minutes after that. Even then, the inexperience showed when she only delivered the fusilli to our table. She was carrying another fusilli that I guess some other table had ordered. The carbonara was delivered about 5 minutes later. We did not get any desserts since it was getting late. Note that the menu was only a subset of the one on the website - there were only 5 main entrees available on this night. read more

A wonderful restaurant and outstanding culinary experience, in a most unlikely place, an obscure strip shopping center in a foodie wasteland known as Boerne. The service, the food, and the wine list are amazing. Seafood Florentine, the gnocchi, the brick oven pizzas, are all highly recommended. Great ambience, and a lovely relaxed feel. I hope La Valeria thrives and is with us for many years. It's going to require the tourist trade on the weekends, and local support during the week. Boerne has failed to support a lot of great venues through the years. I would love to see something, that isn't burgers and CFS, gain a permanent foothold in our little community. Give La Valeria a try. You won't be disappointed. Update: We were recently back on a Sunday night. Only three tables were occupied, served by one waitress. I think the chef was alone in the kitchen. Made reservations via yelp, without any problems. Email confirmation was sent quickly. I thought- awesome! We arrived about 30 min early- never know with I-10 traffic. We were seated right away. The hostess provided a one sheet menu.My husband quickly looked at it and looked at me and asked, "They do have pizza, right?" So I had sold my husband into taking our out of town friend to Boerne for dinner (all on the pics of fab looking Italian food and especially the pizza). At some point the server approached and I asked about the pizza. He went on to tell us that the entire chef team was in Italy perfecting their craft and well there was no pizza and there was a severely reduced menu. He said something about them leaving specific dishes behind while the were out. Strange & that should have sounded the loudest alarm possible but I thought we just drove in 25 minutes, let's give this a chance. Surely, the kitchen would be able to pull off service without their chefs, I mean why wouldn't they? they are opened after all. The server said, let me give you a few minutes to see- and something to the effect of - if you decide to stay or not. I talked my small party into staying. I had seen a few other tables send back bread and we sat for some time after we ordered without any bread (and we weren't offered any either). After a while another server brings us a dish of lemon, cheese ravioli- explaining that they had run out of bread. Say what? An Italian restaurant running out of bread @ 730p on a Saturday night? He apologized and said that the dish was complementary. The ravioli were not very flavorful and cooked al dente & I mean al dente especially around the edges. Okay- again, concerned. Next came the meatballs- those were nice. Would have been nicer with bread. When our meals arrived- the veal "cutlet", shrimp dish, and lasagne. I took one bite of the rice on my dish while the server was at our table and it was cold, my husband's rice - same - cold. My husband also commented that the shrimp was cold (aka not pipping hot from a just made kitchen). Our friend's lasagna was nice and hot. I sent my dish back (something that I never do) but as per other review replies from the restaurant this was recommended. My husband also sent his back and cancelled his meal (he doesn't send food back). I guess one of the acting managers came back and apologized- and that should have been the end to that, but know this guy actually questioned my husband about sending his plate back stating that the shrimp was not cold. That they had checked the temperature. Dude- you just served two of your guest COLD rice at the beginning of dinner service- if you customer says your shrimp is cold then you really don't have much to go off. He cancelled the dish- so what was the point??? My veal "cutlet' was not a true cutlet. I have been to mom & pop and fancy Italian restaurants so I know cutlets- and their version of a "cutlet" is actually more like chopped meat. When you think you are being served crab cakes- and not a cutlet, that's a problem. The sad cucumber & dill salad was lacking salt. It also did not add to the dish. The shrimp dish we didn't even try since we had sent it back. My friends' bechamel sauce lasagna was the only dinner dish that was done well. The strangest thing that someone in my party commented was that there was no pasta for either the cutlet or shrimp dish- instead there was rice. I really hadn't thought about it, but that is strange for an Italian restaurant. On the service side, I think that they didn't really know how to handle concerns or complaints. When I told the server about the "cutlet" he really didn't have any response- just kind of shrugged a bit and asked if he could take my plate. My recommendation is that you call the restaurant and find out if their chef are back and if they have a full menu that day before you get there. One of the most disappointing experiences I have had in a long, long time- that was our experience. read more

I had the spicy tube pasta with Italian sausage, one son had lasagna, my husband had egg plant parmesan, grandma got the carbonara, the other two kids split pasta alfredo ( and regretted not getting their own). One star for service... A lunch time experience...The food was grossly over-priced! We were offered croissant rolls, which I thought would be complimentary, but turned out to be $5 on my ticket. I had the pork chop was prepared with some sort of au gratin purée mess and was mounted with a load of caramelized onions and red bell peppers. The pork chop was bland and over-cooked and full of bones. I requested it to be prepared medium. Lackluster is an understatement!!! A waste of $22. My friend ordered the lunch lasagna...it was plated with more salad than lasagna. The sliver of lasagna was literally the size of a deck of cards and tasted, ehhh, just ok! A waste of $18. Lastly, the beverages are "made" to order. My friend ordered lemonade...it was strongly sour and hardly sweet. He had to request some simple syrup to sweeten it up a little. He finally just requested a sweet tea...which was unsweetened, so he needed to sweeten it up as well. The waiter did not remove the lemonade from the table when he brought the tea. Bet you can guess that he charged us for both of those drinks? Yep, indeed he did! $5-6 wasted! That lunch cost us approximately $55 prior to the tip! I will NEVER patronize this establishment again and warn anyone else from going yourself! read more

This was my husband's choice since we stayed 20 min away from Boerne. He wanted to see for himself the concept of the "farm to table" business in full effect. We had the bib lettuce, okra (crispy) and cherry tomatoes with bacon, and meatballs (were dry) for appetizer. My son had the pizza. Everything was ok as far as the food goes. Nothing really wow'd me. The three stars is for the food and concept. TMI: My son had diarrhea the next morning, he was the only one to eat the pizza. The service was noticeably different. From our table compared to the other tables who sat down afterwards, the waiter didn't give us the specials for the day nor made any recommendations. I overheard him going through lengths to describe the special dishes/recommendations to the new table that sat next to us (table of 6). I thought to myself "man, i think I would've rather had that than the food I ate." Overall, it was a "when in Rome" decision to try this place because my husband is very curious. If you like to eat in a very dimly lit dining room for dinner and like the concept of farm to table style, then this will be your choice in Boerne. read more

We had a group of 6 at the Valeria last evening. We chose Valeria because of the menu we read on line. When we arrived, the menu was completely different and folks dining with us were now more limited in their dining choices. The olive oil used for dipping our bread was very good, high quality oil. Most of the apps please everyone. The scallops with lentils was a hit, as well as the meatballs. The wine list was very good! The king salmon was a bit pricey. Our waitress was very attentive. Overall a nice place but we would have been happier had the menus matched. Some of us wanted the pasta dishes that we read about on line. read more

The food truly was 5 stars, however the night we were there (Monday) there was no one else in the restaurant, and the servers were all standing around staring at each other. Seemed to take well over an hour for two entrees. One server stated it was her first week, but seemed to have restaurant experience, all the young servers seemed to have no clue about service or how to do check backs. Esposa and I have attended three wine dinners at Valeria Farm to Table Restaurant. It's located in a strip mall in Boerne with plenty of parking. There are 2 or three tables outside and a dozen or so inside this cozy bistro. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. Staff are personable, attentive, and professional. Chef Keith worked his way through world of wine to food and has expertise in both areas. He's a true artist who brings passion to his inventive creations. Each of the dinners featured wines from a single winery, sources of which have included Italy, France, and California. The vintner is the guest of honor and explains the wines being served. The 5-course meals are all inclusive and although a bit pricey well worth it for the experience. We've not eaten there for a regular menu meal, so please take that into account when reading this review. Highly recommended. We'll be returning for many years to come! read more
