Not once looking at the building would I expect authentic, delicious food from this place; but when you enter it, that's exactly what you'll get! We have tried multiple taco places throughout Oceanside and this is one of the few good ones. As you walk on you'll notice beautiful agua fresas all of which I highly recommend (my personal favorite is the hibiscus)! We have ordered every single taco and haven't found one that we didn't like. Came here around 9:00 PM on a Saturday night definitely wouldn't try this place out if I were you, the food does not taste good at all the carne asada has a very strange SMOKY flavoring to it? Almost like brisket or bbq?. The young girl at the front has very bad customer service skills, she definitely does not like working here. Was pretty busy and looked to be under staffed on this day. The burrito was small compared to most but definitely felt heavy and it ACTUALLY HAD GUACAMOLE! Thanksgiving generosity much appreciated. I wandered in on Thanksgiving since I saw the doors were open. Unfortunately they were just taking care of some side duties and weren't actually functioning for business. But the guy I spoke with randomly offered me a free tamale that I could take home and heat up if I wanted to. I didn't take him up on it since I didn't have cash I could give him and I wasn't super feeling a tamale anyway, but the gesture was very much unexpected and appreciated. I took a break but have been back this year and WOW what a difference. Everything is amazing from the food to the service. They even have champurrado on Sundays during the winter! Try the chicken enchiladas w/ salsa verde or the Cali tacos. You will not be disappointed!!! read more

What a fantastic place. First off just set your GPS and come get a taco. It will be the best thing you have done for yourself all week. I just discovered this gem a few days ago and have already been twice. My favorite so far is the carnitas tacos. Oh man they are just so flavorful! They are nice and crispy which can really make or break a carnitas taco in my opinion. It shows they take that extra time to add the love it deserves. The handmade corn tortillas may be the best I have ever had. They make their own maize in house! The tortillas are hot and soft and fresh and I think they have some kind of spice that I just can't put my finger on. So good. Met the owner today as well. What a nice guy. You can see his passion for the food and that means something these days. The family has had these taco shops for 21 years and this is their new location and you can tell he has put a lot into this place. It's clean as a whistle, the staff is well trained and friendly and the food is hot and delicious. I consider myself a taco guy and go to a LOT of spots and this place already has the #2 spot on my list. I think #1 needs to step up their game or they could be in trouble! Holy crap! It's not often that I'm impressed and happy from start to finish! Their tortilla chips are awesome! The Cali taco is the BOMB! The churro was just the icing on a great meal! all tacos are made with hand tossed tortillas as in all dishes are made with fresh ingredients no package food here .it's super good without heavy oils or salt. Just left this place and let me tell you it's as authentic as it gets! Yesterday I was literally searching where to tame the BEAST of craving tacos and nothing was catching my attention but...TODAY I have found the cure! I had the tacos al Pastor and they were oh so delicious with just the perfect amount of juicy grease to make your taste buds dance oh yes!!!! full of FLAVOR and the agua de melón resembled my mamas! The gentleman at the grill is super nice and he recommended the carnitas for the next visit. The girl at the register is also very friendly! Hands down, the best carne asada in the area. So good! Some of my favorites include the surf and turf burritos and nachos. I recently had the grilled shrimp burrito there, and it was really good also. Love their salsas too - anything from a yummy, more mild red sauce to a creamy habanero sauce. This place was AMAZING when it first opened! The owner was even there getting to know everyone! The food was outstanding, the salsas off the charts. As soon as the good word got out, you didn't see him anymore. Lol! Over the years it has totally declined and not because of Covid or getting supplies. It was declining beforehand. This was a new place for us. My wife and I usually have our regular taco places we go to but I decided to try Valeries. Well, it was a good thing. I order a variety of tacos including the jefe, the diablo, the cali taco, and grilled shrimp taco. All were so good, each packed with individual flavors that came together as one. The soft corn tortilla tasted fresh, and it was very flavorful. All the tacos were so good. The cali taco was a play on the cali burrito with fries, cheese, and carne asada topped with queso fresca and chipotle sauce. So good! The jefe taco oh man, a little bacon inside topped with chipotle, cheese and onion! So good. The daiblo had fresh fried shrimp that was packed with flavor. Again, all the tacos were bomb! My wife ordered the 3 rolled tacos with guacamole. She said that it was good, the tacos were crispy, but the guacamole appeared to be just mashed avocados with not much flavor, but she did mention at least it wasn't avocado sauce! We ordered take out and when my wife got there to pick it it was ready. We really enjoyed eating their food at home. We will be back for sure, and next time take some photos! read more

I know this is generous rating because I only had one item, but it is definitely accurate. I wanted a breakfast burrito yesterday, so I stopped by this fairly new location. The staff were very friendly, providing a warm greeting as I entered. I liked the menu board on the wall. Very clear and large print. The place was very clean, but simple. There were several choices for the breakfast burrito, which are served all day. I chose the carne asada which came with egg and cheese. It came fairly quickly and was very hearty. Really, loaded with meat, eggs and lots of melted cheese. Add one of the salsa choices they had it was delicious. This is now my go to place for a breakfast burrito. read more

Most Mexican taco stands don't have that big chuck of meat rotating like gyro places do but Valero's does!!!. The pastor meat was juicy and delish. Caution: the hot sauces are not marked and they have a golden/creamy hot sauce that tastes yummy....but it's habanero based and will melt you into a puddle of sweat if you don't use it sparingly!!!' Valerie out did herself! This is the second location I've visited and again, I was absolutely blown away. Ordered a California burrito and the quality of carne asada was amazing! It tasted like I was having a steak and potato dinner from a fancy restaurant. Their California is just carne, fries and cheese. No guacamole, Pico or sour cream. I decided to add sour cream which cost $1, kinda steep but it was worth it. I called ahead and when I got there it was ready and waiting for me. We tried this place for the first time tonight. Here is my breakdown: 1. Service - ok service over the phone, ok service at the store, we ordered takeout so both were important 2. Chips and guacamole - to die for, honestly don't know how these authentic places do it, crispy fresh chips, salty tasty guacamole and finely shredded cheddar cheese...yum! 3. Fish tacos - yummy! Homemade corn tortillas, grilled fish, fun sauces and flavors...would order again. 4. Shrimp Diablo tacos - solid but heavily battered and not my favorite of the items we ordered. 5. Chicken taquitos a la carte - good flavor and come with guacamole and Mexican cheese, got a little soggy for our to go order 6. Bean, rice and cheese burrito - if it wasn't so dry it would have been a nice addition to our meal. All in all I would suggest this place for take out. The ambience is severely lacking and they seem to be going for take out orders. I will definitely give them another shot. read more

Valerie's is my absolute favorite Taco Shop/Mexican Food! Such great seasoning on all their food. I love their Carne Asada ANYTHING! Meat is perfect every time! Fried Mahi Taco is my favorite fish taco for a shop! The SD Burrito is my go-to for spoiling myself (shrimp and steak) - I add Guac and remove the fries but my BF loves it as is. The Shrimp is made in a Mexican ranchero sauce that is to die for! Hmm, what else.... so many good things here! OHHH their homemade Aguas Frescas!!! Our favorites are the Pepino Water (cucumber) and their Jamaica is so light and fresh... not syrupy like most machine ones. Their Salsas are excellent, we love SPICY so we get the Creamy Seranno and Creamy Habanero sauce, they make your eyebrows sweat but are soooo good with their food!
